The Photoshop Show2,032*Luminosity Masks* _are they a new magic superpower for your images?_ Seems everyone is talking about them, "Luminosity masks are the new black!"  but what are they really, how do you use them, and most importantly.... *WHY?* They have been around for a long time but there has been a huge surge in interest in using them to enhance your images.  Trouble is, most people throw the word around like it's the editing equivalent of a miracle pill.  I want to explore exactly what they are, how to create them and most importantly of all, why you would need to on your own work. *Luminosity Masks* are they a new magic superpower for your images? 0:16:23 Discussion about What they are, and Why would you use them?   0:17:23 Opening files from Lightroom to either Photoshop CC 2014 or Photoshop CC if you  have both on your computer 0:24:07 Using Luminosity Masks to Isolate and enhance specific areas of your images  0:52:12 Creating Luminosity Masks from scratch Free Actions Panel From Jimmy McIntyre:  http://www.throughstrangelenses.com/easy-panel-download-for-photoshop/ Shutter Evolve website dedicated to Post Processing http://www.shutterevolve.com/ Video Courses Offered By Jimmy https://www.e-junkie.com/ecom/gb.php?cl=178110&c=ib&aff=230489 Course offered By Sean Bagshaw http://www.outdoorexposurephoto.com/video-tutorials/the-complete-guide-to-luminosity-masks-tony-kuypers   Join Me,@108215644829092784557   with co hosts @115571998474046088312 , @105845861210914905032 and @101437802758827481019   Tonight at 9pm Eastern, 6pm Pacific right here on the event or directly on YouTube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHCmmLFUZCsThe Photoshop Show 63 - Luminosity Masks with Ron Clifford2014-09-10 03:00:0056
The Photoshop Show2,032@100738770034987639606 joins @108215644829092784557 @115571998474046088312 and @105845861210914905032 in another information packed episode! *There is POWER in that Channels Panel* About @100738770034987639606  Sometimes I feel like Photoshop ate my life! A prerelease copy of Photoshop 1.0 blew my mind in my mid-twenties and pulled me off the road as a hard-working, traveling musician - taking odd creative jobs cleaning up photos, designing CD and book jackets, and learning how to use the rest of the computer to help support my imaging habit.  A few years later I found myself working with guru Kai Krause helping to build the Kai’s Power Tools plug-ins and imaging apps, managing his website, and editing his popular series of Photoshop channel and selection ‘power tips'.  And a few years after that I ended up landing at Adobe as a product manager, working alongside Photoshop day in and day out in my role as the PM for Dreamweaver - finally landing at the mothership myself.   About *The Channels Panel* The Channels panel is one of my personal go-to panels in PS - but one that’s been misunderstood in many ways over the years - even though much of the old magic we could conjure up with it  back in the PS 3.0 era can now be achieved nondestructively with layer effects, there’s still a ton of power to be had in the Channels panel for creating and working with Photoshop selections and masks of all sorts. #photoshop   #hoa   #tutorial   The Photoshop Show 62 - with guest Scott Fegette2014-08-20 03:00:0051

The Photoshop Show2,032When we asked @111772222071720240926 what he wanted to share with all of you he jumped out of his chair and said, "Super excited about the show. My topic is going to be, "Capturing those magic moments". I am going to show the process of how I seek to capture and then eventually select the moments that mean the most. In order to do this, we'll dig into a few unedited folders of images in Lightroom to give a behind the scenes look at the photos that were captured. Here we'll look at how using Collections in incredibly important for whittling down to the keepers. We'll look at a few different examples:  iPhone photos, commercial shoot and a personal project. Finally, I'll highlight a few steps in Lightroom to make some improvements. " O.K. maybe he didn't "jump" out of his chair, but he is excited to share his knowledge with you! The Photoshop Show2,032We had a great show with special guest @110924410828841148491 , along with co-host @115571998474046088312 (@108215644829092784557 was away this week) producer @105845861210914905032  & panelist @101437802758827481019  where Chris showed his techniques for combining photography with printing on unusually textured papers to create amazing unique story-filled works of art. Chris kindly provided the following links for materials and vendors he discussed in the show as well as additional tips for how he uses the special papers with his printers: Some of my favorite paper sources include: Hiromi Paper http://store.hiromipaper.com Paper Mojo http://www.papermojo.com Phoenix Art Supply http://www.phoenixartsupply.com Inkjet receptive coating (the stuff to brush onto the papers above to make them take a better print) is made by a few people, including: DASS Universal Precoat http://www.digitalartstudioseminars.com/store/product15.html Golden Digital Ground http://www.goldenpaints.com/mixmoremedia/digiground.php (By the way, I do create custom printer profiles for the inkjet receptive coatings to get better prints. The HP Z3100 has profiling hardware built in; for the Epsons, I use the X-Rite ColorMunki.) I use Rives BFK as my "ground" or "support" to glue my collages to. For my glue, I currently use a handheld Daige Roll-a-taq system: http://daige.com/ez-glide-liquid-laminators-from-daige-products-2/ To glue my finished photo + collage onto a wood panel, I use Promacto A-1023, which is hard to find; I used the bookbinding supplier Talas: http://apps.webcreate.com/ecom/catalog/product_specific.cfm?ClientID=15&ProductID=17904 We did not get to discuss sealing or "varnishing" the print with a UV protectant top coat. I do this in two stages. After the print is made and has had a chance to gas out, I coat it with Krylon UV-Resistant Clear (gloss). After it is mounted to the panel, the finished work gets a final coat of  Krylon UV Archival Varnish (semi-gloss or satin).  I have written an article on mounting works on paper to panels; it can be found on Facebook (but should be available to all): http://www.facebook.com/notes/chris-meyer-hybrid-artist/mounting-works-on-paper-onto-wooden-panels/146173645573435 (I will be updating that article soon with things I have learned about the Krylon products.) Google has really outdone itself by adding Stacks to the Snapseed photo editing app. Stacks allow you to nondestructively edit a photo, and later go back and change, delete, or insert an edit--kind of like layers for edits. Find out how Snapseed Stacks work in the latest episode of my series http://www.lynda.com/phototoolsweekly

+Terry White shows how to use your iPad/iPhone as a second display for your Mac laptop using a Mac/iOS app called Duet. This is a great setup when you're traveling and working on photos in Lightroom or Photoshop. When you're working in Lightroom you might put Grid view on the laptop and Loupe view on the iPad. When you're working in Photoshop you might put the photo on the laptop and some panels on the iPad. Great ideas Terry.

I'm all about using Google Photos to store all the photos and videos I shoot with my iPhone. The beauty of it is that you can remove the originals from your phone and still be able to view and edit on the phone the copies you've stored on Google's servers. It's free and unlimited when you choose the High Quality upload option in the Google Photos app. While, It's true that Google Photos does apply compression to your photos, folks are saying that visual impact of that compression is negligible. Here's a visual comparison from Petapixel and one from Google so you can evaluate for yourselves: http://petapixel.com/2015/05/30/jpeg-compression-test-google-photos-vs-jpegmini/

I was just playing around with +Trey Ratcliff's new Photomatic presets volume 2 from stuckincustoms.com . I fed my 3 raw exposures at the top into Photomatix, and came up with the two results at the bottom. On the left is the merged photo with Trey's A Hint of Moderation preset with a few tweaks of my own. On the right is his A Kitten's Kiss preset. I'm not sure which I like best. You?

Adobe has released Lightroom CC 2015.1, which includes two exciting new features: 1) the Dehaze control for reducing the haze you often see in the distance in landscape photos, and 2) Whites and Blacks sliders in the Adjustment Brush, Radial Filter, and Graduated Filter.
This update is for those who license Lightroom as Creative Cloud subscribers. If you have a permanent Lightroom 6 license instead, your update, Lightroom 6.1, has bug fixes and new lens and camera profiles, but it does not include the new Dehaze or Whites and Blacks sliders in the local tools.
There are some new features for Lightroom Mobile too. Adobe's Terry White covers what's new in Lightroom CC 2015.1 and Lightroom Photo in this video.
