the lost world, take III

and so
the world of many man slowly faded
from crowded streets
of cold and grim
back to sparkling
dreamlike
canopy

Not engulfed in russet flames
But soaked in
natures velvet
fists
And nursery

The compassion
of furry beasts
and abstract worn out
blankets of vibrant dust
and silenced colors

the sirens song
with sprouts from
Owls and Eagles
Their gratitude

Spread atop our emptied cities
the warming sun of this world
With walls that long
last crumble
Beneath the tigers child that
Roars again, at the ghosts
and ruins of absent man

the homeless Invisible
inside out, the blind leads the blind

A few days ago, on my way to buy a few fruits, whipped cream and sugar free yogurt, as I walked inside the store I noticed a young girl in her twenties. She was sitting right by the entrance in the downpour of a proper dog rain that whipped us all with a free shower. Begging for petty handouts.

Sadly I had nothing to give her since I had no cash on me, but as I paid for my fruit I made sure to get some good ol fashioned printed money in return and so on my way out again, I gave her what I now had on me.
Well, this article of mine isnt about me giving her money. But while it felt good to be able to help her even in that abysmal and far too lacking way in that given moment. I could not help but to observe all the countless, never ending rows of people walking in and out of that store.

Sweet Dreamscapes
Tonight we dream and travel

Liar liar
on the wall
A spider climbed
its web of words
towards the golden tassels

So tell me now
What do you see, what do you crave
and elucidate
when darkly dearest Sandman
from sheltered moons
and starry night

takes us to forever dream
and silent travel
Caught, set free

Is that frost upon your breath?
Perhaps
A dragon gnarly hides inside your chest

unfolding
dreams are yours
to walk
sing and hymn

the whispers
whispers
In the dark

i travel
Like a flock of ravens
and the shooting star
towards, the realms uncharted
I gladly hurl
to slay the demons
of unknown tides
and whitest waters

scanty clad, and happy hearted
spring is in the air

Scanty clad and happy hearted
full of life we venture
down the halls of wayward
greens and pale blue space

with hosts of leafs and auburn gowns
fair and stately

Amongst
The haunted reefs

our naked limbs
soon dressed by naught
entwined

Pleasured, touches

Beneath
the falling of the setting sun

With our whispers
it slowly paints
these Sandy shores

I take your hand
so fine and sculpted

down to the water
still receding
Moving, growing

Down your hair
And skin, the water
trail
your naked bosom
cheek and chin, I kiss and drink
the pearls that flow

out in water
there are rifts now moving

out, we are

As I touch your
delicious wet

Again, it trembles
the warmth
& pleasure of
Our
being

We merge this wave
and take a fall through air

Upon this
wind we ride
and
now you shiver
With our kiss
Of ice and fierce
wet,
warm passion

Back
into
the open sea and sirens whaling
I guide you down this deep
the final crest

our happy hearts
a willows creek so scanty clad.

Have a great spring everybody :P.

Health: Biological aging speeds up when eating red meat

short version:
Be it cancer, obesity, vascular aging, mortality chance in general, diabetes or as we now, also know, a destructively rapid aging process, red meat just isnt a great day to day food choice if health is a concern/interest.

People living a sedentary life with unhealthy food choices already end up increasing the pace at which their body biologically speaking ages. Add red meat to that and the very same people will age even faster.

Another unhealthy aspect of eating red meat revealed by a new scientific study by scientists in Sweden and Glasgow.

Exactly on the mark, so not much needed at all for me to say other than that it is time for us all to always look at the total package of our way of life.

Environmental and social costs, health impact for individuals and planet, the actual reality and science. All aspects should be included when we evaluate something. Be it a product, society, a person or company, a single nation or global progress. When the only metric is singular profit for one entity, things go dead wrong very quickly.

Anthrax - Blood Eagle Wings
seriously gory video

Hot off the heels of their monumentally awesome 2016 release for "all kings" comes a video that is seriously not for the faint of heart.

Blood Eagle Wings is metal at it´s very best and Anthrax 2016 is as far as I am concerned better than ever. And that makes me one happy pup, it is a rare thing to find a band that gets better with age, but Anthrax has now produced 2 of it´s best albums in a row with "worship music" and "for all kings".

But before you hit play, please know that this video is like dipping your toes in all the gore and cruelty of war and inhumanity that we humans sadly far too often end up doing towards each other.

Great song, great video (and amazing album) ,just not for the faint of heart.

Okay, this one, the latest video from Anthrax, Blood eagle wings from their monumentally awesome 2016 release for all kings is seriously not for the faint of heart.

Blood Eagle Wings is metal at it´s very best and Anthrax 2016 might be the band actually and truly being better than it ever was.

But seriously this video is like dipping your toes in all the gory and cruel parts of war and inhumanity that we humans sadly do far too often towards each other. Great song, great video, just not for the faint of heart.___Anthrax - Blood Eagle Wings

Condensing frozen air and moist clashed this morning with furious passion against the seasoned traveler that is the light and warmth of a billion stars and more.

Inside the octagon, elbows came crushing down on facial bones. Blood and sweat swirling through boiling air, wrapped inside each others embrace and dance as muscles burned through adrenaline and atp. Mind and bodies screaming in unison for every inch of air and energy, life and strength that it could hope to muster. The scream for life and victory is a silent scream of furor and burning passion. The clash is as always like an unfolding painting of untold beauty. It is warm and cold, harsh and gentle.

Blow by blow the fighters dance, in the ring and in the air. On the ground and on the canvas. Frost and chilly night air pummeling against the warmth of cosmic rays. Bones that clash against skin that ruptures, blood that sprays against momentarily suppressed pain.

Life is as always, the path of step by step. Mind and matter in evolutionary progress. Inside the octagon as well as outside in the meeting of condensing night and rising sun. For a brief few moments, the dance of life dress us all in misty white down here on Earth, and it is another day of utmost beauty.

Welcome back we say to both the breakfast sun during our morning run and Jon Jones in the octagon.

Health - Adults with diabetes quadruple worldwide since 1980

Short version:
The increasing prevalence of diabetes ties directly in with the rise of over eating on shitty and healthy food and sitting still far too much.

And products like Starbucks 'Hot mulled fruit', which contains 25 teaspoons of sugar per serving, certainly do not help improve anyones health or body.

All in all our own choices in food and lack of exercise has taken our global population from 100 million or so people with diabetes in 1980, to half a billion diabetics in 2016.

Health: Daily orgasms lowers prostate cancer risk
Fulfilling Sex and our Daily Health -The Science of a healthy life

When it comes to sex you already know that I am always talking about the fulfilling kind of sex, for all involved. Naughty or sweet, outlandish or innocent does not matter. That´s up to all involved, how they all enjoy doing it.

So, if we assume that you and your partner(s) already have a wonderful and fulfilling sex life. well in that case it will probably make you smile from ear to ear hearing that not only is sex generally speaking an incredibly fun way to improve ones general health, but it even protects against prostate cancer - and the more you do it, the better the protection.

Talk about a wonderful incentive for more sex :).

Eat Healthy, Hit the gym, drink Coffee, Love Sex,
and do it daily

You could actually make an excellent, albeit generic, global health recommendation from that short headline. And if every person alive followed through with that on a daily basis, we would have nothing but a global health and body revolution on our hands. That is, generally speaking, how easy it actually is to vastly improve ones own long term health and body composition :).

But this little article is not about health in general but about sex and how one of the many healthy aspects of enjoying a fulfilling sex life even protects you (this article and study is about men this time around, even tho fulfilling sex is as beneficial and essential for womens health and fulfillment, females of course do not suffer from prostate cancer) against prostate cancer.

In a recently published study, 32 000 men participated through the years 1992 through 2010.
And the take away is that men above the age of 40 that orgasmed 21 or more times per month, had a 22% lowered risk of developing prostate cancer. Of course, one study hardly makes something written in stone. But, considering that we already know how beneficial, and essential, a frequent and fulfilling sex life is for both men and womens mental and physical health, it should not come at all as a surprise that frequent sex would have a significant impact on prostate cancer.

And of course, if your partner(s) isnt up to 21 or more sexual encounters per month, take the matter in your own hands :).

Happy hearts, your body loves fulfilling sex

¨Increased energy and creativity. Increased fat loss and strength. Increased cardiovascular performance, happier minds and hearts¨

Sex have numerous emotional and biological reasons to be enjoyed. None the less, the act of reproduction. But it also provides the world and it´s people with a long range of essential life improving reasons as to why it should be enjoyed equally much by both men and women for no more reason then fun and love, passion, desire and naughty, sweet pleasure.

Keep in mind however.

I am right now talking about fulfilling shame free and abuse free sex. Sex can be as naughty as all involved enjoy it, but naughty and rough is never, ever abusive. When one person do not enjoy what is happening, that turns gorgeous, fulfilling sex to something ugly and harmful.

Out of the many things this worlds various religions do get right, sex has sadly, extremely rarely been one of them. Neither from a scientific point of view, nor from a moral or emotional, or a public health viewpoint. Fulfilling sex is not only fun, it is essential for men and women alike.

To enjoy and do the way all involved in the sexual act itself craves it.

If you are a guy, enjoy the things your partner enjoy. Be happy if she/he is mature and insightful enough to crave that you explore all of their sexuality. Dont put restraints on her pleasures and desires. And if you are girl, let go, you are who you are. And you need what you crave and enjoy. Do not let the historical restraints of society and immature people tell you what is healthy and normal to enjoy and like.

No one has the right to dictate what you should enjoy in your current and former relationships, nor should you let your male partner dictate what you can think and do, dislike and enjoy, not today, not tomorrow and certainly not in the past.

People grow and change as we mature, and our sexual pleasures, our desires, the things we enjoy and dislike, the things we do not need and the things we certainly do need, sexually and emotionally, they too change. That is what is normal. Either embrace the freedom of that natural change in each other, or suffocate the life joy in the person you claim to love.

Religion teaches us far too often that sex is unhealthy, studies like this proves the opposite.

Sexual fulfillment is both beautiful as well as healthy.

And for a happy, fulfilling life and relationship, allowing all involved the freedom to enjoy the things you do in this very moment, and the right to only do what you all enjoy, is not only a scientifically healthy thing to do, it is how you act as a decent human being and world class lover.

Evolution of Contemporary humans

Contemporary humans. A beautiful term for the ever changing humanoid species which almost all of us belong too. And for the tiny few that has managed to remain purely homo sapiens (from a genetic point of view), we all, all of life, all species, evolve as nature intended for life to do.

Over time, we change and adapt. As individuals, as well as one global species. Our mind and bodies and genetic markers evolve to life's current day by day conditioning. The conscious choices we make, and the conditions through which we live.

A clever adaptive design that covers all of life. Plants, bees, elephants, humanoid species, water bears and cats and everything else.

Contemporary humans, and all other species for that matter, also change by absorbing previous generations own genetic material. As that material happens to be at conception. Most of the time nature thrive real hard to try and only absorb and hold on to the best traits from previous generations. Making diversity a natural but intelligently selective strength. Far less random and chaotic as previously thought, mistakes still happens of course, and at times, since evolution is so slow, surrounding circumstances changes quicker than our genetic material can adapt (computer screens and blue light, for instance, our beefed up neanderthal immune system is another good example).

why, the term, contemporary humans

If you are wondering why I am calling our one global species, contemporary humans instead of homo sapiens. Well, I use the term contemporary humans, because we are not the same as 300 years ago, Nor are we even the same species as we were 60 years ago. And we sure as hell is not the same human species as we happened to be 2000 or 50 000 years ago.

Contemporary humans are ever evolving, and it is who we are today, come tomorrow, we will be slightly better and different, slightly more evolved. Today, we also know that we doesn't even have only one species as our genetic origin. Adam and Eve is a beautiful thought for those that need the comfort and mental safety net of a singular creator guarding our destiny, but we are all glorious children of not even one genetic origin, but a multitude of completely different humanoid species, picking up the best traits and mutations from them all along the way.

Making the vast majority, not only a genetic evolution of several ancient and contemporary human races but from the ground up a beautiful ever evolving mutant species. Which when you trace our complete lineage and genetic makeup are not even a mere sum of all parts child of multiple homo sapien races, but like the silver surfer, we hurl through our evolving cosmos, riding a giant planetary surfboard that we call Earth. We ride it together as something evolved and mutated, not just a mere good ol homo sapien but something far more.

the cosmic ocean

We ride the waves of cosmos, planets and galaxies and all their stars and species, weaving and bobbing the illusion of cosmos calm pond like surface. Like a leaf on giant stormy seas we might not see the waves ahead, nor might we feel the ever changing rise and fall of the sea. But like that leaf, we surf the galactic waves we know are constantly moving, unseen but never the less, moving and touching everything in our own milky way galaxy and the entire known universe. Even tho we can not see those waves or their ripples that protrude across space with our own naked eyes, we now have the technology that allows us to interpret it, and as such now we know that even time itself and the biggest stars all weave and float across those very waves.

And as such we all surf that glorious and Wild ocean not as a singular pure human species that has walked the earth the same unchanged way since homo sapiens African birth. Instead, we do it as beautiful mutant children, born of cosmic stars and a multitude of different contemporary races and ancient human species, each with their own unique genetic origin and adaptations.

Evolved and more, we ride this wave together, at the speed of light, we traverse the vast unknown of space. We are all unique, and yet, connected little mutants, born a mix of Homo sapiens, Neanderthals, Denisovans and 'god' knows what more we will soon discover. And together we the contemporary human race, our planet and entire galaxy surf through the universe at the crest of giant waves at a speed of millions of kilometer per hour.

A small galaxy that in itself is still changing and soon will have millions of new stars to light up our sky at night.

tell me now

So Tell me now that life is not grand amazing.
But if you do, I will say

You my friend might not be blind and deaf by natures choosing. But still you live by your own free will, slightly numb and blind and deaf. Why is that?

By not seeing and wanting to accept life as it is, you are missing out, because life is grand, and man and woman are born all beautiful and perfect, yet still evolving. Pussy, clit, thoughts and all, we are all amazing. We and life itself are grand and gorgeous, a delight to enjoy as it is today and the ever-changing tomorrow.

And we all are all that so much more so than any man-made fiction.

arctic butterfly and the snowy white

At rare times, we come across events and people, as well as both small and monumental moments that we just know are genuine once in a life things.

When we do, all we can do is to marvel at and appreciate it for what it is, exactly the way that unique thing unfolds. This photo is one of those small moments which so randomly and rarely happens that you would have missed it if anything in the universe made you blink for the briefest of tiny seconds.

Yes, that is a real life, and unharmed, and fully alive butterfly.

And yes, you really are looking at a tallish, snow covered flower, outside in the middle of the arctic winter, deeply frozen, snowy white and all. A proud and unlikely moment from life unfolding right there in the middle of a snowy white and deeply frozen landscape.

It´s not the best of photos, but I could not help but to appreciate the beauty of that unique moment, and as such, it really is perfect just the way it is. And to imagine that I had a camera with me to immortalize this memory, making sure it never got lost in the fog of time.

As for the queen of snow, she is now hibernating in the safety of a cold and dark room, and yes, she really is alive, a couple of days ago she had moved a tiny little bit deeper into the shadows as she slumbers there, awaiting the coming of spring so she can help set free a legion of butterflies.

Sometimes people never come back out of the forest called Aokigahara

Every year in modern times at least, up to 100 people step inside the "sea of trees" beneath Mt. Fuji, never again to be heard of alive. Not due to a forest-dwelling movie monster, or predatory species that lurk beneath the canopy. Instead some choose to visit this solemn, and beautiful place, not to rekindle their appetite for life, but to willingly meet the end of it far away from the sounds and lights, demands and artificial existence of the big Japanese cities. So, before we continue, let´s agree that unless you are burdened by terminal, and untreatable illness, choosing to meet life daily, and choosing to live life in a way that makes it fulfilling for you, that is what requires real strength.

Calling it quits is not a show of strength, it´s simply quitting and giving up.

Yes, far too many are burdened by a life that is neither kind or fulfilling.
Be it a partner that sucks all the joy away, or selfish people and crappy unfulfilling jobs and daily tasks that in no way makes your life more. But the solution is not to cease to breathe and do life, the solution, the real one, is always for you to start doing life the way that makes it fulfilling for you. Everything and anything in life can be changed, by you. No one else can choose to change life for you, but you can. We all can choose to do life in the way(s) which we enjoy instead of simply stumble through a dark, unfulfilling and meaningless journey towards our final night.

Whatever your situation is, you always have all the tools and right to change it, just by being you, and it really is your fucking responsibility and right to do so. Life is your art to do and to enjoy for your own fulfilling sake, not to waste away against your own needs, and that is something no one can change.

Nor do they have the right to deny you a fulfilling life lived by your own choices and according to your own needs.

30 out of every 100 000 people - In Japan

In Japan almost 30 people out of every 100 000 do choose to end their own life. The by far, highest suicide rate out of all the developed nations.

There are of course many reasons why so many end their own life in Japan compared to other equally developed nations, one of the least talked about reasons might be that in Japan suicide was historically speaking rarely looked down upon the same way as it is in most of the world. It was rarely thought of as illegal by the legal system or a cowardly thing to do. Throughout history, suicide have at times even been looked upon as a way to keep your honor, from the yesteryears Samurai that committed seppuku when they or others had for one or another reason disgraced themselves in every day life or by loosing a battle to today's overworked Japanese workers that often work so much that at the end of the work day they cant even go home at night but instead sleep over in small hotel rooms near their workplace.

And in that daily environment of demands by others, be it people or corporations, suicide is still by some thought of as a romantic way to end a life that has gone wrong instead of simply choosing to change what is wrong.

That un-relentless work pace is of course all by itself a big contributor, people are emotional beings, not only do we thrive in nature's beauty, but we thrive when we are living life and all it´s aspects the way we enjoy it. And very few honestly enjoy working even 8 hours per day.

To make over working worse, things such as love, sex and fulfilling and romantic relations also go out the door when you work more than you live, or when you live a life that really is not what you would enjoy actually living.

Sexless lives that lack both relationship and passion and romance are thus, as expected other common aspects of modern day life in Japan.

A volatile economy and few workers/people rights in life and society to demand a fulfilling life all contribute for the world leading (amongst developed nations) suicide rate of Japan. Add to that how densely populated life is in cities like Tokyo and how little wildlife and nature there is in your daily life on the streets of such cities. Small apartments, little nature, high paced life on concrete roads and millions of people inside your personal space 24/7. All that combined is why some choose to visit Mt. Fuji and it´s whispering sea of trees to bite hard into that fresh apple that is life without that artificial dome that is modern-day Japanese life.

most just seek to dip their toes in lifes beauty

Most visitors of course go there to rejuvenate in the silence and peace of mind of that mountain, to hike and enjoy the grandness of the area, to sip upon life´s fruits.

While others sadly go there to simply never return, not intent on receiving that jolt of rekindled energy that make us all pumped for another day of life´s daily battle.

Instead they came in search for a decision, and every year up to 100 people manages to make such a logical tumble that they stay behind in the forest, they lay as empty fossilized shells with no more tomorrows scattered in the moss and roots, waiting in silence for someone to find them.

The science of neurogenesis, life long health in body, gives life long health in mind

So let´s just put it out there, short and sweet - as you strengthen your own body all life long, you also improve and maintain your minds health, performance and youth.

All life long.

That is not my personal opinion, it is simply a scientific fact. So for today, let us talk about neurogenesis, the science about a healthy mind (and thus, body).

All life long.

That is not my personal opinion, it is simply a scientific fact. So for today, let us talk about neurogenesis, the science about a healthy mind (and thus, body).

Every day, 700 new neurons are formed in a healthy mind all life long

Every day, all life long, a healthy brain actually produce an astonishing 700 new neurons. Fresh for the taking to learn, to heal up, to improve. We know today that our brain is no different to how your biceps and sexy ass will grow stronger and more toned when you challenge them in a healthy way, and end up weak and deflated when you stop challenging your body.

In other words, as long as you maintain your own health by making healthy (and stimulating/challenging) choices on a daily basis - the things you enjoy doing.

You will also keep your mind healthy, fit and toned.

Do not mind gender or age, do not blame your genetics and your parents. Dont blame the last ten years of food and tv sofa choices.

All those things of course have an impact on us all. But they do not define us. Your biceps and your brain, your heart and your entire being is a constantly evolving work in progress. And a great start to improving body and mind is the healthy things that you actually enjoy.

Sex (the great fulfilling kind), healthy food, a fit and toned body, blueberries, lifting weights, doing MMA, reading a good book, writing a book, listening to music, falling in love and maintaining that mutually enjoyed love and passion.

Learning new things, taking daily walks. Keeping up with the world, learning new things as the world learns new things. Discovering new games, playing games. Learning new forms of art. Destroying your own squat and bench press records. Doing yoga, travelling. They are all good for you.

And the truly funny thing is, your brain is a muscle, working out will tone up your mind as well as your torso.

Eating healthy benefits brain and body. Getting drunk hits your mind as badly as it hits your body.

Walking, martial arts, yoga and sprint runs benefits mind and body, Creatine, a sports supplement is as beneficial for your mind as it is for your explosive energy levels (even more so if you happen to eat low or no amount of meat).

Healthy food and not over eating keeps in combination with keeping physical active your mind healthy as much as it keeps your body strong, fit and toned.

And the bad works the same way.

Skipping ice cream (I love Ice cream btw, so that is a hard advice to give - but some indulgence is allowed :P) , not doing alcohol, skipping smoking, drugs, and making sure not to sit still for too long.

Avoiding air pollution, unhealthy food, making sure not to over eat even if the food is super healthy.

Avoiding sugar. Kicking crappy partners, friends and lovers out. Well, I am pretty sure you already get the point. All the things that maintains and improves your personal fitness level, joy and health also maintains your brain. And the things that drains your physical energy also saps your mental energy.

I have said it in previous articles over the years, but I will end this one by saying it again. Your mind is a muscle.

The same way your heart, your ass, your triceps, abs and lungs are all muscles. And as such, while there are circumstances to health, life and aging which we do not control, and while there are some genetic (and other) limitations involved for us all, it truly is not only possible to create and maintain a healthy body and mind for a life of enjoyable and sensual health, it is 99% down to your own daily choices.

By far. the best part is that you can start improving your health in body and mind at any given point in life.

The concept is easy, your own body and brain is constantly replenishing and restarting, on a daily basis.

It really is a daily grind keeping healthy, happy and toned, and that is why people go up and down in body fat, muscle mass, endurance, strength, creativity, memory, the speed with which you perform cognitive tasks and so forth.

Nothing is constant, and what you do not use, you loose, but what you havent used, you can always start improving today by starting to use it on a daily basis.

Because, as you now know, both muscles, body fat and neurons continually gets refreshed.

Your entire living system continually thrive to rise or sink with the challenge - or lack of challenge that you provide it with. Mentally, emotionally, intellectually and physically.

What you have to constantly remind yourself with is that it truly is a daily grind.

Never ever buy into a promise of a healthy life and hot body if you do this routine for the next 6 month.

A healthy body and mind is created by you making healthy choices every single day for the rest of your life.

Body fat starts growing the very same day you start eating more food than you use up. Body fat starts diminishing the same day you start using more energy per day than you are feeding your body.

And strength, thought, endurance, joy, cognitive performance, it´s all the same.

Add to that, that quality also matters. Quality of food, quality of sex, quality of working out.

Quality of life and a constant stream of daily healthy choices that challenges and fulfills you is what matters for body and mind. All parts of your organic ecosystem (your body) responds the same way to what you feed your system from now on out.

Make a bet with yourself today, that you will once you hit 70 years old outdo your current day self in body and mind. Work for it on a daily basis by making healthy choices that you enjoy - and I bet you that you will accomplish exactly that (bad luck, unrealistic goals, a lack of will and unfortunate accidents put aside of course).

Like a painter's pencil the air and rolling hills was turned into nature's most enchanting canvas. Wrapped all around me on this place where I now stood right next to this tree where we hand in hand in summer time barefoot walked through the tall green grass through the herds of flowers and wildlife.

The wings of crows and ravens and the mighty white-tailed eagles soared the sky above me.

No doubt looking for the tasty arctic rabbits that always roamed these fields of ours.

Or perhaps they tracked a Lynx or two that silently made their way through the bushland, stalking our footprints that now laid frozen in the snow like a ghost, silent and unseen but always near and always undeniable there.

I looked up at the rising sun as it painted these vivid clouds and frozen land and I smiled, thinking of the sights that already lay waiting for you my girl to discover as we walk these plains hand in hand.

The day changed before their searching eyes as the humidity kept building up, and before you knew it drops of water was hurling down toward them from the clouds, thick and utterly gorgeous drops of water splashed across the leafs and branches that was scattered above them with near silent, yet if you truly listened, it was like a carpet of thundering clashes that played a wayward march of a million drums.

The little aphid cow right next to the ant looked startled at the sea of thickening tears that came hurling down all around them.

"My very first winter rain, my gosh, just look at those drops, how big and thick they are"

Yes, the soldier ant Said, they are close to becoming hale and snow by now. I can already feel it in the air. Come, let us go back inside before winter catches us. We are in northern lands now, and the freeze can happen instantly here. And if it do, it is strong and powerful enough to hurt us

"The freeze?" The Young aphid sounded as frightened and hesitant as he looked now.

Yes, wait here, I have to close the hatchet too. Our Norse tribe would not be too happy with us if I forgot to close this entrance for the winter. You see, up here with the fairies and trolls, those white and brown Bears and Santa Claus. Things turn to real ice and snow up here for month at a time. It is impossible to survive outside for little ones like us. Everything, even the rain becomes hard as metal and stones against your skin.

"but, it was sunny and warm yesterday?"

Yes, winter has come.
But no need to worry about that, we usually spend our summer and autumn up here, we are a migrant tribe after all, and once Santa has dropped off his bag of presents next week it is time for us to take the southern tunnel down back to Africa, and from there, we might hitch a hike with the Spider ballon trail, and in return for us helping them stay safe, they will carry us all the way out to the ocean trading route.

From the trading route, ocean currents, winds and our own ladybugs will take us all the rest of the way to Brazil, it´s lovely during this time of the year. So, no worries, in a month or so we will once again see summer and you can graze as much as you want in our southern hemisphere capital, until we head back north for the arctic summer of course.

Perhaps, next year, we will go and visit the eastern outpost, Japan has such a beautiful blossoming tree and the clan chief has sent words that next year will be an extraordinary display of wonders, the trees and bugs have been producing an extraordinary amount of milk for us.

who is santa Claus

"Who is Santa Claus?" the little aphid said.

Well, Santa is, you know. Think of Santa as more of a magical being than a person. He lives up in the wild north, somewhere far away and deep in the snowy mountains of the ancient places only known to vikings and frost giants.
He walks amongst the humans, the ants and every little critter and animal. Almost like Odén, the old viking king of all the norse gods.

He has many names and shapes, but once a year Santa lets the world see him almost the same way no matter who you are. He walks this planet, an old and very bearded man, slightly puffy and quite over weight, but perhaps that is just the shape he wants you to see that very day.

Come xmas eve, when you close your eyes and the ferries take you to the world of dreams, Santa somehow finds his way inside your house, leaving presents behind, and behind him he sprinkles a crunchy trace and scent of ginger bread and a most delicate lingering feeling of wonders.

The point is, no one really know´s who Santa is, or how he can change his shape like that, to grow as tall as the tallest of giants, or as small as an ant. No one knows how he actually look like, or how he can travel the entire world and be at millions of places almost all at once. Is there a hundred thousand different Santa beings? An unknown species that only shows itself to the rest of us during Christmas. Or is it just one Santa that some how manages to find himself in hundreds of millions of places each and every second.

I do not know.

It´s magical like that. Like nothing else in life.

He shows up, and he vanishes, like he almost never was there to begin with, and behind him, the scent of magic and the physical gifts which he has left behind is all that remains.

Well, that and gratitude i hope, because you should be grateful.

For life itself, each person that truly cares about you, and for all the wonders in the world. For the kindness that somehow gave you that gift.

Grateful for the cycle of life, light and dark. Snow and warmth, it´s all an wondrous part of life.

And yeah, it´s magical, Santa and the reality of the yule log traditions.

Just remember to not lay awake. Because Santa never ever shows up before each and everyone inside the house have soundly entered the dreamy lands that is guarded by the moon and the stars. Some how he always knows if you are silently laying awake trying to catch a glimps or sound of him, and if you stay up for too long, all that you will have accomplished is that he will not show up at all. And if that happens, well tough luck kiddo - you are officially down and out with Santa and you better hope that someone in your life is kind enough to buy you gifts of their own.

So you see, you have to fall asleep little one if you really want santa to come around, so nn and dont let the bed bugs bite. Because I want him to leave some gifts behind him, I have waited all year long for that.

..... "but, tell me about the lady bug trail!."

Hush now little cow,
I do not want us to chase away Santa this year too, I will tell you all about our lady bug trail tomorrow, and soon you will get to see it with your very own eyes as we leave the new fallen snow behind. But for now, please let´s close our eyes and visit the sandy ant mans shores.
I have heard that he is having a barbeque tonight together with a bunch of hybernating vikings that just woke up, and I doubt you would want to miss that.

.... "Oh wow, the sandy ant and vikings, I cant wait to see that"

....."What are they barbequing?"

..... "Oh I can hear him, did you hear that! Santa is here, I can hear him"

......"How did he get inside, we dont have a chimney!!"

Shhhhhh....

The industrial revolution changed that and farming became owned by a few mega-corporations, with animal abuse, health, and environmental issues in tow. But now, in a world of climate change and awareness, technology have finally come full circle, making us all greener, healthy individual farmers again.

Inside our romantic and cozy kitchen, white, clean and warm, yet modern and uncluttered, there is also the warmth and joy found in the cycle of life, ever growing strawberries competes for our attention with ripe looking tomatoes. Healthy stuff continually growing and reproducing right there in our kitchen. Ample health for the picking. Free of hormones and pesticides, free of polluting cross national or even regional transportation. Healthy, tasty, and all our own come rain or sunshine. Snowstorms or horizon blinding swarms of locust. There they are, ever producing.

Best of all is how easy it is. Green fingers my ass. Growing some of your own food has never been healthier or easier to achieve.

Do not cry now. But you can now harvest your Friday taco right on the kitchen island, mealworm style :).

Farming in the new world is not just about fresh and sultry tasty berries, however.

You can now grow your own little crunchy taco dinner in the same sustainable, kitchen island way you are farming strawberries all year round. Mealworms, crickets, crunchy little grasshoppers are all suitable for modern day kitchen island farming. Reach out and pick a handful of tomatoes, pick 5 strawberries off of your kitchen counter in the middle of the winter and harvest half a kilo of mealworms every week. Slice, dice and cook and there you go, a perfect, indoor grown salad for the taking. Tasty, healthy and long term speaking, insanely affordable, not to mention convenient as fuck compared to buying a far less healthy and sustainable equivalent in the supermarket.

They are however a bit yucky at first thought :). And that is perfectly ok to think because meat based protein from stuff like mealworms is incredibly much less resource demanding and thus much less destructive, and much more sustainable and affordable to farm than cows, chickens, shrimps and pigs. And it pulls all that off while still delivering high-quality protein. The huge difference in waste and water usage between traditional agriculture and the "kitchen island farming" principle to name just two aspects is gigantic.

Read the rest at our website including a video of a super cute kitchen Island mealworm farm that spits out friday night tacos every week, 500gram of pure protein meat :).

Ps. I know, I made this post a couple of weeks ago, but G+ some how managed to turn my post from public to private. Lol, you got to like the weirdness of g+s very own ghost in the shell :).Anyway, that is why I am posting it once again :).

Rich in biodiversity and languages

Indonesia is as rich in biodiversity as it is in the number of languages spoken within its borders. But while it´s populations has doubled since 1971 it´s status as our planet's most biodiverse region is under siege due to a long range of official failures. A massive and unsustainable population growth (caused in parts by an out of date view on sexual education and contraception ) in combination with poverty and inequality.

Unsustainable corporations, poaching and world famous natural destruction are not only rapidly cutting down on the natural resources and wildlife, but also causing widespread and long-reaching health issues inside and outside of Indonesian borders.

There are also numerous human rights issues tormenting the diverse Indonesian population. Some of it manifests as gender-based violence and abuse, such as the army having performed vaginal examinations on female recruits to make sure that they are still virgins!. All the way to the few, but far too many, females unfortunate enough ending up victims accused of imaginary crimes, similar to what can be seen in India and PNG.

Other ongoing and already decades-long issues include an out dated view on same sex relations. Violence and murder relating to the widespread illegal - but commercial - logging, poaching, and deforestation are also far to common.

Home to

[15% of

plants, mammals and birds]

As much as we would like to believe that our own national and global industries are all well-behaving. Sustainable and as healthy as possible in their respective approach to making a profit. Sad facts are that the biggest contributor to the deforestation, the illegal logging, the rampant poaching and decline of countless of animal species in Indonesia is us. We, the outside world and our global import/export industry.

None a bigger culprits perhaps than the palm oil and paper pulp industry. We are after all the ones importing the goods produced in Indonesia, we are the ones feeding the ongoing atrocity and keeping the wheels spinning on something that is utterly unsustainable. Not only is this an environmental crisis happening today, but also the source for decades long widespread health issues and human rights issues.

"Thankfully" by now some of the consequences have started to have a global impact, and are as such no longer restricted to just Indonesian soil. The air pollution that the deforestation is now causing is already severely hampering the health of millions of people in other Asian nations. And that is of course why the outside world have now started to recognize that what is happening in Indonesia is not ok.

Sumatran tigers and rhinos

"Demand for palm oil, both national and overseas, is a big driver of forest conversion," said Erik Meijaard, a conservation scientist at the Borneo Futures Initiative. And if you are still shaking your head and wondering how on earth your need for palm oil and cosmetics in any way contributes to all this. Indonesia is by far the world's biggest producer of palm oil and actually produced 33 million tons in 2014 alone. Out of that 20 million ton is annually exported to other nations around the world such as China and Germany and the USA. But the problem is not just about producing and exporting palm oil.

There are other commercial factors involved, such as coal mines and traditional pulp and paper industries, as well as the cosmetic industry. Separate but related issues, which, when all combined are perpetually ravaging all of Indonesia in their shared hunt for ever increasing land and forest to exploit. Even resorting to burning and destroying healthy forest around the 17 000 islands. Which not only is against the law but also causing the rampant air pollution that the world now has noticed. It is also contributing to the rapid loss of land area for countless of animal species, some of whom only exist in Indonesia. Protected park areas that serves as homes for a long range of unique animal species are constantly under threat from fires and illegal logging and poaching.

"Some of the babies we’ve taken in recently have been suffering not only from dehydration and malnourishment through lack of food but also breathing problems from the polluted air.”

Add to that the unique rhinos and tigers living in Indonesia. The handful that are still alive that is. The Sumatran tiger which is the smallest known tiger species in the world are now thought to be made up of less than 500 individuals and since they only exist on the Indonesian island of Sumatra they are incredibly sensitive to the illegal deforestation and poaching currently running rampant. A sad situation that is all too familiar when talking about the Sumatran rhino which is already down to less than 100 individuals.

A rhino named Harapan

Talking about the Sumatran Rhino, just about now a male Rhino named Harapan, which means hope, was made world famous when he recently traveled more than 16,000km (9,941 miles) from a zoo in the USA to reach the Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary at the Way Kambas National Park.

The goal here is to reintroduce him to the wild where he can breed and help introduce not only more offsprings to this critically endangered rhino species, but also strengthen their DNA.

A futile effort if we can not put an end to both the illegal poaching as well as the illegal and unsustainable deforestation. Two related issues that are both fuelled by our global need for consumption. The poaching is mainly maintained to produce meaningless traditional Chinese medicine. While the logging is happening to produce cheap as hell palm oil, cosmetics and toilet paper.

Short, sweet and accurate post for one of the many basic things a lot of people still get wrong about their body, health and fitness level/potential.

Your present day body fat and Lean muscle mass is 99% about what you do on a perpetual basis with the body and health you were born with and not at all about your genetic makeups inherent limitations.

With that Said, since some are overly sensitive about these things, that does not mean that everybody have to be slim, Toned and fit. It is simply about the reality that you are able to walk around with the body fat and muscle mass that you would prefer to have.

You are not trapped by your genetic Markup ( unless we take things to It's extremes, if we do that we all have hard limits that are both impossible, and even unhealthy to move beyond, but those are limits that not even most world class athletes in a long range ofsport... more »

The Myth of Body Types
There are still many forums, websites and even fitness instructors who use the convenience of the endo, meso, ecto classification for body types, perpetuating a myth that has no foundation in science. Our bodies are the instruments we use to connect to the world and the places we all live in so it’s worth taking a little time to unpack this a little and understand where the myth ends and the science begins.

The theory behind somatotypes (the scientific term for body types) came in the 1940s from the American psychologist William Herbert Sheldon, who used visual examination to classify the human physique according to the relative contribution of three fundamental elements named after the three germ layers of embryonic development: the endoderm, (develops into the digestive tract), the mesoderm, (becomes muscle, heart and blood vessels), and the ectoderm (forms the skin and nervous system).

In the 1940s there was a strong social movement in the US that leaned towards Eugenics and Sheldon's Endo-Meso-Ecto classification fed directly and very conveniently into that. Despite the physical aspect of Sheldon’s theory his real aim was to tie his observations into psychological observations about the psychological makeup of people and associate that with each body type creating the theory of Constitutional Psychology.

Sheldon used subjective classification techniques based upon his visual appraisal of his subjects’ physiques. His theory of Constitutional Psychology has since been discredited. Unfortunately the fallacy of the physical classifications persists to this day but it's a very poor way of looking at how the human body works or how it can put on muscle. In the early days of the Darebee project we tried using the classifications as a guide to the level of difficulty of our workouts and they were so restrictive and out of touch (as we found out once we started to test them with volunteer groups) that we abandoned them. The reason the fallacy persists to this day is because his original research assistant Barbara Heath, and later Lindsay Carter developed it further and popularized it in the 60s creating a convenient way for many fitness professionals to work with.

Anthropometric Measurements and Your Body

Science and our knowledge of how the body works has developed incredibly since the 60s and it’s time we started to retire the endo-meso-ecto classification for the myth it is. First of all there is no single person who is adequately described by one of these classifications which means that at best they are an approximation and at worst flat-out wrong and you don’t want to base your training nutrition on something that is ‘almost right’.

Second, each person’s body is the result of a mix of characteristics that are traditionally ascribed to one of the Heath-Carter ‘body types’. So, in reality the visual elements that make a person fit into one or the other are actually wrong and likely to lead to more problems than solutions.

The only area where somatotypes come into play in sports science and biology is when we need to take anthropometric factors into account to determine physical fitness and physical performance. Anthropometric factors include body breadth and length, body weight, bone density and even the ratio of the bones of the legs and arms in relation to the torso. There are a number of factors influencing anthropometric measurements: genetics, nutrition, environmental and cultural factors and, obviously, the sex of the person. A study carried out by researchers at the University of Madrid showed that anthropometric measurements can determine physical performance in a subject which then can conveniently be classified into one of the commonly used somatotypes.

There are four key things to remember:

1. Every person is a combination of all three somatotypes based upon the complexities of their anthropometric make up. Someone can be tall, heavy and still relatively lightly muscled for their size. Someone else could be short, light and yet heavily muscled (throwing up an out of kilter BMI Index). You cannot base any training or nutrition plan just on the visual aspect of how you look or how heavy you are (case in point Bruce Lee who built himself up with a proper training and nutrition program).

2. Physical performance has nothing to do with somatotypes and everything to do with physical strength, endurance, coordination and the ability of the body to successfully coordinate muscle groups during ballistic exertion involving concentric and eccentric muscle movements.

3. Physical fitness is independent of somatotype. It refers to the ability of muscles to do specific work within a certain context and recover in a sufficiently short space of time to do it all over again (consider that both a heavyweight boxer and a marathon runner are very fit but visually look very different).

4. The popular link between body type and metabolism is false. While there are differences in the Base Metabolic Rate (MBR) which measures the amount of calories a body burns at rest for each body type, they are the result of muscles and musculature and the individual level of activity that each person engages in, rather than the body type itself.

So What Determines How You Put on Muscle?

The question then remains, if body type is not really indicative of how easily or quickly we can put on muscle, what is?

Muscles only grow as strong and powerful as the anchoring points allow them to and those anchoring points are tendons and bones. Strong tendons and strong bones make for strong, powerful muscles. Because bones and tendons get stronger through physical activity which exercises the muscles this is a little bit of a catch-22.

At this point nutrition comes in. Bones require calcium and calcium has to be present in the diet. A combination of enough calcium and sufficient high-impact exercise to frequently generate 4G forces (about four times the weight of your own body applied to your muscles and bones) begins to affect the density of the bones. As bones get denser they can support greater exertion from the muscles more easily, so muscles can now begin to grow faster.

The recipe for building muscles then is what it has always been and it’s the same for everyone:

- Good nutrition
- Regular exercise that challenges the muscle groups you want to get stronger
- Sufficient sleep (for the body to restore muscle fiber damage and build new muscle)

People with bones that are already dense because of their lifestyle, will find it easier to put on muscle at any rate. Women, whose bones are generally not as dense as men’s will have to work a lot harder to see results.

How much each person burns at their base metabolic rate (BMR) will depend on their weight, muscle-to-fat ratio, physical and mental activity levels (the brain requires 20% of the blood’s total blood supply), their height, the type of foods we generally eat (i.e. fast-release carbohydrates like sugars or slow-release carbohydrates like unprocessed rice and brown pasta, etc).

This means that with the proper combination of training and nutrition anyone can put on muscle regardless of their size, but not everyone can put on the same amount of muscle, at the same speed. The formula for losing or gaining weight is the same for everyone regardless: eat more than you burn to put weight on and eat less than you burn to lose weight. You can’t escape basic science, it seems.

Body & Mind
[fitness fuels my creativity]

While the rain keeps pouring down for me, and perhaps the sun is burning bright for you, the biggest upper body muscle is what I had cooking on today's schedule. Back, and that much smaller thing called triceps. I normally do not train my triceps with my back, I usually do nothing but back and my mma cardio, and possibly some abs, but I do like that switching it up thing, so for today it´s back and triceps. A combo that do work really well together, giving your entire upper body a solid challenge.

Both back and triceps work your shoulders as a tiny but positive bonus, and a tough back workout also gives your biceps and grip a proper beating, so by the end of it you´ll end up having activated your entire upper body, including your chest muscles courtesy of those triceps exercises.

the workout

I usually warm up by doing 2 to 3 sets x 10 repetitions of standing barbell row for my back workouts and today was no exception.

In my case I start out @ 100kg, which feels light enough while still actually giving my body a proper warm up. Today, just for fun, I also did two warm up sets of close grip bench press for my triceps as a superset with my barbell row, and one hanging leg raises.

No, it´s not really how you should do it every single day you hit the gym. But every now and then your body just needs some amped up intensity.

After all, you do train for lifelong health too and an athletic body and not just for beefy muscles that can't even get you through 5 minutes of cardio, right?. Well, at least I do.

Intense Weights
[back and triceps]

Standing barbell row:

2 set x 20 repetitions @ 100kg (Warmup). + 2 set of 10reps close grip bench press with the same weight.
3 set x 12 repetitions @ 130kg (286 lbs) + 10 reps of shrugs using the same weight.

Sitting rows in a superset with chins.

3 set x 12 repetitions @ 120kg (264 lbs) sitting row, + 10 to 12 repetitions of chins in between each set of sitting rows.

Shrugs

2 set x 20 repetitions @ 200kg (440 lbs) + one more set of chins in between those two sets.

While I do not know about you, that short and intense back workout felt god damn great for me. Intense, high paced and good weights and proper technique.
A workout I was damn happy about.

As a bonus, I did close grip bench press 3 set x 10 reps @ 110kg (242 lbs) and 3 set of dips for my triceps x 25 repetitions per set.

No lessons for today, except that you know. Fit and active is about a functional, and healthy body that is as athletic and kick ass and sexy as it is good looking and healthy for all of life. So keep at it and don't let the desire to be the strongest in the gym be your one singular goal. at the expense of everything else. It might be fun but it is neither sustainable nor healthy So, in the quest for throwing around weights do not forget the cardio, the pace, the explosiveness, the durability and just how much more fun it is to be toned and athletic, and muscular versus being a bulked up polar bear that only grunts away 3rep sets every third minute.

Making love, off world
and the things you can also expect from your future romantic, space date

In our rapidly approaching near future and a few fortunate souls present day reality, the perplexing realities of dating off world will no longer be confined to the silvery screens of yesterday's.

Soon a rapidly growing number of people will be able to prepare and plan for romantic weekend dates out and away from Earth´s atmosphere. But beyond the tantalizing, and highly romantic aspect of kissing high up above as you look down back on this blue marble. What else is there to going off world?. What about the little every day things when you kiss, hold hands and make love beneath the stars, way out in space.

The Baby feets of space

A romantic trip to Paris can be complicated enough, but immensely rewarding to carry through with your lover. And a once in a life romantic trip to space, well, that, of course, will truly create moments of everlasting memories to look back at.

But beyond the financial drain the ticket itself will present. How about the practical side of it.

I am of course talking about the everyday reality of you never being able to going outside for a morning walk in the fresh spring rain. The missing wildlife and flocks of ravens, the missing woodpeckers that play their never ending drum like serenade.

All the things you already know of and take for granted down here. How will spending your day in space instead of on Earth really affect you. So before you take off, have you considered the lack of sustainable amounts of water to drink and shower in (or in fact, any kind of sustainable amounts of the beverage you enjoy day in, day out down on Earth).

There are after all, no strawberries growing beyond our blue spheres shelter. No apples and no corn and peanuts, no one that can pick more coffee beans for you to grind and brew once Friday approaches.

In fact, up there, in space, at some point, you do have to drink your own recycled urine.

Well, unless we are talking about a short weekend trip that is. But let´s not do that, let us contemplate upon going out into space for 12 months or longer and the lasting impact of that on you. Perhaps you embarked upon a several years long trip to another planet. Or you and your two hot lovers romantic one week trip ended in a sci.fi like catastrophe and you are now, all stranded far away, outside our blue atmosphere.

No clouds to shelter you

No clouds to shelter you, no rain to quench your thirst, no rescue choppers. Not even a parachute to skydive back to Earth like a daredevil hero. You are for the next 12 month, trapped in space.

By accident or choice, and there are no secret little islands floating by that will show up with raw coconuts and little critters to feed upon. No beaches with pale blue water to swim and dive in, and no fish to bbq over an open fire.

Bonus perks of space travel, gratis world-class pedicure

Scott (Nasa Astronaut) lets us in on one of the perfectly logical little secrets of life in space that might have escaped your bucket list considerations. But you have to admit, this nice little extra gratis "world-class pedicure" for the ladies makes going up into space for a romantic, luxurious 2-month vacation even better doesn't it. Perhaps Virgin can sell their coming commercial vacation trips as "better than botox" =).

“We don't use the bottom of our feet much. Over time any calluses on our feet kind of fall off. After about five months up here you have baby feet. When I got back from my last flight… I was getting a massage… and the masseuse said, 'You have the softest feet I've ever felt in my whole life.'

And my response was, 'Thank you, I'm very proud of them.' ”

But your clothes and dinner do float

The outcome of those differences between life in space and down on Earth is that our bones break down faster in space. Our internal fluids get switched around. Cancer growth accelerates, our feet goes baby smooth and so forth, and so on.

There are positives, such as the smooth baby feets, and getting to see 10 000+ sunsets and sunrises in one year!. But be aware of the negatives such as the loss of muscle mass and bodily fluids floating in air, as well as inside of your body :)....

Because no matter how big or small those things sound like to you from the comfort of your Earthbound bed, they are a practical reality of going out in space, and they will impact each and every one of us that do venture off-world one day in the future.

Making life in space for coach potatoes perhaps not a downright impossibility but a very unpleasant prospect to do. And finally, some of these things do not go back to their previous state just because you came back to Earth.

Quite a few astronauts have suffered significant reductions in muscle mass and mineral bone density (lower body), as well as long lasting issues with their spine and lower back, the accelerated cancer risk and, accelerated aging none the least. A weaker heart muscle is of course nothing to overlook either.

And these things happens despite modern day astrounauts spending hours every single day of their month long trips working out, lifting weights and doing cardio.

Going to space is not just a dream, it is a truly romantic adventure, and one I would love to one day do with that one delicious person by my side. But it also presents real, long lasting negatives for your health and well-being.

Some things to consider, once you undress your two hot lovers up in space, their lingerie will silently float away down the space hotels interiors. So please, dont forget to close the door behind you prior to the undressing.

You might not be shy enough to care, and that is fine :). I am simply considering how quick and easy you guys will manage to get dressed again once you are all happy and pleased.

And please remember your oranges beyond our pale blue atmosphere.

An orange a day was once a life saver for hundreds of people casting off to go to sea. Scurvy used to be a deadly curse amongst any kind of sailor that spent too much time out on the open waters. The cure was to take a slice from the pages of "fit and active & healthy" and as such, once the boats started bringing oranges with them to supplement the essential vitamins that we need, not just to remain healthy, but to survive the trip, that was what the sailors too did, survived the trip that is.

This old curse of traveling across the oceans is now something that is for obvious reasons a very real issue with prolonged space travel too.

And that orange do have to go hand in hand with hours of daily weight lifting and other healthy, daily lifestyle choices.

From the orange to the apple, to the weight lifting and daily need for cardio. Vitamin D and C, calcium, gravity, proteins and water - and real sunshine. Life in space, no matter if you travel through it on a moving station or spend your time using your own two feet traversing another planetary surface will need sustainable farming and healthy habits in food and activity even more than life on Earth does.

Assuming that most space tourists actually will want to re-enter Earth as healthy as possible.

And all these aspects, the differences that is, severely decreases your health. Some of them, like the old case with oranges on boats, leads to life-threatening issues like Scurvy. While others, like the loss of bone mass and a weaker heart, is aspects that just does not go away by itself once you land back on Earth again. Bone mass and muscle mass can and will over time recover with the right amount of training, but there are no guarantees that you will ever recover completely from a 12 month trip to space. At least not as things are right in the here and now.

kisses and touches, and your motion sick brain

And as such, since you are now trapped up there. In the dark where no one but your crew and lovers can hear you.

Kissing and touching will, of course, feel as normal. The lack of gravity and the initial confusion and "morning/motion" sickness the conflicting information that your inner ear and eyes will give the brain gives most astronauts the first few days does not take away your hearing, your sight, nor your ability to feel the sensation of touch against your skin.

But it does make some things interesting.

Without gravity, well, making love will prove a completely different kind of workout and experience than it normally does. Just as how daily life will be a different beast altogether. Throwing your socks and underwear to the side works great on Earth, things tend to just fall where you throw it. But when you hurry to undress your hot lover up in space, her bra will just float away. Your food and bodily fluids too :P..

And yes, I did mention the fact that most astronauts end up feeling quite motion sick the first few days. It is simply not that instant for your finely tuned senses to readjust. Down on Earth, your ear and entire balance system is perfectly in match with what your eyes are seeing, two different sensory system feeding your brain 24/7.

But up in space, all of a sudden your inner ear is telling your entire body and mind that hey guys, we are fuck..ing falling!. But your eyes are perfectly fine, saying, no worries brain, we are just slowly floating, and it looks damn cool too!. So, my point is, making love might not happen the first or second day on your romantic space flight, you might all feel far too ill for that.

But more importantly is that for each month spent, your body will deteriorate a lot quicker than it ever could on Earth. Your spine will crumble and grow longer! And all while your feet are growing smoother, your muscle mass will shrink and disappear like vapor in the burning sun. Your cardiovascular performance, in general, will vanish with the pace of the speeding sun that shines and radiates stronger than ever up here.

Back down on Earth again, your spine is weak and your feets will crumble

So much so that the day you are saved and step right back on Earthly soil, you will have a hard time even standing upright (which more than one Nasa astronaut can tell you about)

Internally you will be like a really old, sedentary and weak version of yourself, or why not go to the other side of the scale, a weak newly born of chubby wonders and no bodily control or real strength, made so because what you just did by spending time in space was the equal of going through an accelerated crash course in decades-long sedentary life and with it, all the major negative health effects of you doing such a life came.

Research indicate that for some, even with hard daily work, as little as 50% of your bone density will have been restored after 9 months back on Earth.

Facts are, for life in space to become a healthy reality for more than a select few. Our society will have to adapt a truly active and healthy, sustainable way of life in combination with all the modern day technology that can help us achieve that in an extremely limited and hostile space. For anyone spending a prolonged time in space, lifting weights and doing serious amounts of cardio on a daily basis, is a must.

Nothing optional about it, just plain reality.

So is eating healthy food and drinking water. And thus, comes the need for the ability to grow new and healthy food while up in space (which is already an ongoing experiment on the ISS).

You can simply forget all about all the Battlestar Galactica drunken parties up in space. Healthy and active, safe living day in and day out is what it is all about.

On the plus side is that making love and kissing is certainly part of a healthy life. So you and your lovers should certainly keep that up. Not only will it make being stranded in space far more fun, but it will also help you in your daily quest to remain your healthy and sane self.

Up in space, the importance of that daily quest is even greater than it ever was down on Earth, a simple reality resulting in up to two hours of exercise each and every day for current day astronauts, and yet, all international astronauts still suffer from their time spent in space.

And the food bit, as I mentioned we already experiment with growing food in space, and down here, it is already possible to grow strawberries and tomatoes and other greens all year-round no matter the weather and season outside (click & grow is a pretty good example).

But such technological breakthroughs, improvements in long-term and sustainable energy production, even better water recycling, less resource consuming foods and greens and even more effective ways of growing them are still needed. Perhaps not for weekend long vacation trips, but for anything longish those things will be essential.

A reality that also in no way limits just how awesome it is that we can soon take off on a romantic cruise in space :).

Elephants and sharks already master the art of defeating cancer

NO, eating shark or elephant meat (or any animal part) will not keep you healthy and cancer free. But Sharks and Elephants are both incredibly resilient when it comes to cancer. Neither species are however immune, but their incidence is impressively low and the number of documented cases is extremely low compared to humans.

The answer lies in evolution and future medical and technological advancements

Elephants for instance have 38 extra copies of a gene known as p53 that makes cancerous cells self-destruct before they become dangerous. Some humans only have one. Giving us clues to how we can one day better manage, and possibly defeat cancer. Not by eating other species, which has never worked for any known issue, but through modern day medicine.

Perhaps the cure will come through advancements in stem cell and dna research, requiring one form or another of surgery, or simply by eating engineered food, supplements and or medicine. On top of you choosing to live an active and healthy life that is, because as you already know, that too greatly aids in defeating cancer and more or less every known health issue there is in life.

p53, sometimes called "the guardian of the genome", produces a protein that can trigger either the rescue or destruction ( apoptosis ) of damaged cells in our bodies. Because elephants have 100 times more cells than humans, they should also be much more likely to develop cancer over the cause of their lifespan. Yet fewer than 5% of elephants die due to cancer, compared to the huge amount of people that ultimately die from cancer.

Elephant cells exposed to radiation in scientific tests chose to self-destruct at twice the rate of healthy human cells and more than five times the rate of cells taken from patients suffering from Li-Fraumeni. A rare genetic disorder that gives you a 90% chance of dying from cancer.

It is today, 70 years since this day. A day still worth remembering for what happened, and as a warning for what could once again happen. Some have claimed it ended the war sooner, others that all the hundreds of thousands in total of innocent civilians sacrificed in that bright wave of light and radiation and it´s horrifying aftermath, some how was less than the amount of people that would otherwise have died and suffered before Japan finally gave up. Truth is no one will ever know if that is correct, or if it was nothing more than a nation already mere moments away from winning deciding to take all its anger and hate and pour it down from the heavens in an act of two step revenge like the world has never before or ever again seen.

Either way, it was for the world, a collective moment and lasting devastation of horror, pain and misery that followed, it was on a scale entirely unthinkable. So many lives lost and destroyed in the blink of an eye that the global and national trauma somehow lingered on for decades and generations afterwards, so much so that after the second bomb fell, the world despite its many following wars and raging hate, ongoing conflicts and shortcomings have chosen to never again repeat what happened August 6, 1945.

The Six Survivors

It was perhaps best described by John Hersey's Hiroshima essay, a lengthy read which took up almost the entire August 31st, 1946 issue of The New Yorker. An Essay that takes you through that exact moment that you have now travelled back to, showing the world what happened through the eyes of six actually surviving Japanese civilians instead of the usual and carefully polished victory propaganda the world most often gets to see in the aftermath of any conflict.

It is a moment in time and history worth revisiting and experiencing now that his 70-year-old essay have been republished online by the New Yorker. .

As Mrs. Nakamura stood watching her neighbor, everything flashed whiter than any white she had ever seen. She did not notice what happened to the man next door; the reflex of a mother set her in motion toward her children. She had taken a single step (the house was 1,350 yards, or three-quarters of a mile, from the center of the explosion) when something picked her up and she seemed to fly into the next room over the raised sleeping platform, pursued by parts of her house

The Above was a short passage from John Hersey´s excellent essay.

To the six survivors that John talked to and wrote about, that moment of the explosion was as if the sun had descended down upon Earth, but after wards. After the shellshock that tore down trees and houses. After the burning heat, the soundless explosion, the fire, the light. After wards, when the radiation slowly spread, day was turned into night. The sun was gone and winter and night was all that remained.

And as such, before I send you off to read the entire 70 year old essay, I will leave you with the question one of the children that survived the initial explosion said.

The five-year-old, Myeko, asked: “Why is it night already? Why did our house fall down? What happened?”. And with that I urge you to read the entire essay in the safety and comfort of your home. To never forget it, and perhaps even consider just why the world still spend thousands of times more per year on building more and better weapons than we do on healthcare, sustainable energy, clean air & water, healthy food production, well fare, parental care, elderly care, education and equality all combined.

As if it is not already bad enough with modern day Lifes annoying sidekick - air pollution causing cancer, asthma and respiratory diseases and crazy smog in a growing number of cities. We can now add dementia to the list of unhealthy effects that any unsustainable society will cause through air pollution.

Swedish researchers at Umeå University have uncovered compelling evidence for a direct link between air pollution and dementia. The run down is that if you happen to live in an area that leaves you exposed to air pollution you will run a 40 percent greater risk of developing Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia compared to if you would have chosen to live in a city with healthier air.

We studied nearly 2,000 people over a 15-year span

The study, published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, followed 1806 people over a 15-year span while also accounting for traffic patterns in the northern Swedish city of Umea. All participants in the study was of age 55 or older and medically healthy when the study began. 191 were diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and 111 were diagnosed with vascular dementia during the study.

The researchers accounted for other factors such as age, education level, lifestyle and body fat. This is however not a lone wolf in a growing sea of science, there are already a pattern of previous research all linking air pollution to a wide range of negative health issues, ranging from life-ending cancer to lesser issues such as asthma and respiratory diseases. Scientists have also in recent years started to uncover how air quality directly affects the brain.

We know that very small particles can enter the brain through the olfactory nerve and cause direct damage

Forsberg, one of the involved scientists said.

In other words, this study is one more piece of the puzzle that day by day grows stronger, urging us all to transform society, globally, to a healthier and more sustainable way. Not so much for the sole sake of Cecil the lion and his surviving family. But equally much so for our own sake.

For our own tomorrow, for our friends and loved ones today and tomorrow. Replacing unsustainable vehicles and petrol with sustainable electric cars, replacing coal with solar, wind, water, ground and perhaps soon fusion is not only about preserving wildlife and green pastures, it is about allowing us all to grow older in a happy and healthy way. Allowing us all to enjoy a long and fulfilling life without the burden of cancer and dementia, allowing young people and old ones to breath, to run, to make love and fuck without the burden of cardiac arrest and obesity, diabetes and unhealthy water and air to sustain our bodies. It is about us all being able to eat healthy food grown from healthy farming, to walk in green and clean cities free of fog that is already killing millions of people around the world.

A good and clear example of that is the US which have been leading the unsustainable way of life in the last few decades in the western world, and as a result it has had the worst increase in all neurological deaths – men increased with 66 percent and women 92 % between the years 1979 and 2010.

the homeless Invisible
inside out, the blind leads the blind

People walking in and out of that store with overstuffed bags, people all being overstuffed themselves.
People with money and too much food and all of them entirely blind to that young girl.

Unseeing hearts and closed off minds turned on, and while I stood there no one else gave her anything. In its own obscure way that little slice of time served as a pretty good view of our global modern world with too many having to much and to many having far to little.
And no I dont care why she was begging for money. Disability, mental health issues, unemployed, a gypsy, living on welfare that isnt nearly enough for anyone, was she a homeless and entirely without an income. Or any of the other reasons in life that could have pushed her to sit there.

My reflection is, does it even matter?

Tax unhealthy food through the roof and subsidize healthy food and farming

Is not reality that no one with a joyful and fulfilling, healthy life would ever willingly spend hours in the rain begging for money outside a warm comfy store.

And if that is basic reality (which it is). I have to reflect on the slightly and sadly decently sized pool of people in the world, not the ones that didnt see her. That´s sad enough, but even more so is the amount of people that raise their voices and actions to make unemployed people, starving and homeless, sick and beggars something even worse to be.

The ones that claim to be good people, caring people, well behaved, loving, nursing, religious and destined for heaven and well paid jobs, people that claim to be the better. The very same people that enjoy kicking downstairs, lowering wellfare for the ones that needs help the most, the ones thinking it´s okay to beat up beggars and homeless. The ones that think they are not suffering enough in their thinly veiled shelters beneath stairs and grottos.

The ones that think they should be chased off or thrown in jail for being poor. The far too many that somehow thinks that unemployed and sick should be punished even more, the ones that feel that underpaid workers should suffer more.

Those soul less people, the heartless, the bullies, the over paid, mentally and emotionally ill people that think others should suffer for no reason at all.

No, I am not talking about you. Because I am sure that no matter how you do life you would never kick downstairs. You are one of the many that would like to see a healthy and fulfilling, equal world for every human being.

I am however talking about the selfish bullies.

The ones that have somehow replaced the evil of yesterday, the ones that are todays KKK, todays nazis and slave owners.
They would most likely never associate with such horrible labels of evil. And they would most likely never even dream of agreeing with yesterdays inhuman views. But that does not change that they are todays confederate soldiers, for obscure reasons marching to preserve inequality and injustice, they are todays over privilieged and selfish, people that knows better, yet for some reason they feel that they deserve more than others.

They are the ones we should outlaw. The ones that should be taxed more. They are the blemish on our civilized world. They are the anchor that slows progress towards a better and healthier world.

They are todays wrong, just like slave owners and nazis where yesterdays wrong. Another reflection I had was that it certainly is time for all developed nations to tax sugar and unhealthy food through the roof. Allow people that enjoy eating shit to do so. But tax it through the roof and use the proceedings of that unhealthy food to subsidize healthy food and healthy, sustainable farming, benefitting all of humanity in the end, while still allowing unhealthy people to choose unhealthy food. And all the savings in health care, all the savings in life´s and bodies for people and society, use that to increase well fare, to provide better free health care to people with far to little income. Provide housing and free sustainable energy for every person lacking enough money to pay for it.

But of course, that pool of people that for unknown reasons never allowed themselves to see her, they would never want that. For them making a better and healthier society is not at all a good thing for some crazy disturbed reason.

A well, as I said, they are todays wrong. The ones lacking empathy, and as such, the ones not being truly whole, thriving, healthy, wonderful human beings. They are the ones needing help too for they are blind and damaged and ill.

One day, 3 workouts
The daily Science of a Healthy Life

Yesterday had me do a 3 workout split that went like this: Morning: coffee and water + a sprint based interval run. Midday: Triceps, Biceps, Abs. Evening: Hiit MMA that consisted of Kicking and punching at a high pace at first, and then followed by body weight squats and a slower, more yoga like approach to slowly moving between various martial art stances.

While that might sound like an awful lot.

Looking at it purely from the perspective of time it only occupied between 70 and 80 minutes of my entire day. And since we all know by now that we actually need to activate our bodies throughout the entirety of the day, I can not recommend this 3-way split enough. Not only does it allow your body to fully recover its energy levels from the morning cardio before you hit the weights. But it... more »

Not only does it allow your body to fully recover its energy levels from the morning cardio before you hit the weights. But it also allows you to round out your day with that slightly less taxing cardio based workout - keeping you healthy and active while you are watching tv or whatever in the comfort of your home (in my case I was actually watching some UFC while doing my own MMA routine).

So in the end, the time spent working out at the evening doesn't even keep you from doing your usual evening things all while providing you with the delicious bonus of doing wonders for your own fitness level and overall health.

And damn, this chimpanzee do know how to cook.

Once the chicken is done, we all sit down, eat and dine. And you can see that he enjoy his handy work, and greatly so. His English is a bit rough around the edges, but he is learning, and with the help of a waterproof 4k tablet that assists with real-time translations from our fluent English to his mix of English and native chimp tongue our conversation is amazingly smooth, and greatly rewarding for us all.

Of course, he is just visiting for the day. He sometimes do that, coming down from his forest home to BBQ, eat strawberries and to talk. He likes that, our friendly chimpanzee cousin.

Enjoy the summer people.

And if you are wondering what in gods name I am talking about, hit up our website for an article about the joy of cooking that chimpanzees (and other apes) have been found to enjoy - both making and eating. A joy and appreciation of cooking the food and eating the delightfully made food that rivals our own.

And yes, they are the chef´s, all on their own. In an evolutinary step like the one we once did when we mastered the fire, apes have been found to have started the same culinary evolution that before them, only us humans have done.

Fascinating, cute and amazing all at one. And I for one can not wait for the day when we get to sit down to a table made and enjoyed with an Iron chef chimpanzee :).

Dancing like a Ninja and painting like Van Gogh

Not only is our little brain keeping you upright as you dance and spin like a ninja master, breaking arms and doing jumping spin kicks, twerking your ass off on the dance floor, but it is also the wheel that greatly powers our creativity.

Some of us needs a total and conscious effort to create anything and everything. And for those, the prefrontal cortex is the master chief at play. Others, on the other hand, only has the first stumbling steps taking place in the conscious cortex, but then truly spins into high gear once the cerebellum takes over.

Surprisingly, not so surprisingly, that scientific look at what happens inside our brain as we engage in creative activity lines up incredibly well in what we all know from real life experience.
Some acclaimed creatives claim you need to force it. Treating the delicacy of creative thought and art like the conscious effort it is to change the bike tire. All while most other high functioning creatives, claim without a thread of doubt that their best creative work, only happens by itself once they have set things in motion and then allowed their mind to do other things. Creating something of quality in the fountain of inspiration that is found when going on with daily life.

Both processes, of course, involves multiple parts of our minds to be engaged. But one favours the cortex while the other resides primarily in the subconscious "little brain".

So, at the end of the day, surrender yourself to the truth of how your mind actually works and achieve your best creative endeavors yet. Or, as one of the men responsible for the scientific study that led me to write this article said.

“The more you think about it, the more you mess it up,”
Dr. Manish Saggar

Creativity that is, not life itself :)

Children bed time stories Book
Mothers little Boy - Childhood Dreams

A 4 chapter short bed time story i finished up writing and publishing earlier this week.
It´s based on an actual event that took place in Sweden, Summer of 1850 when a young boy befriended a wild Momma Brown bear and her two little cubs.

So fire up spotify and dream away for a brief moment as you read this little story tonight :). The first three chapters also includes an original Swedish poem written during the 1800:th about the same event. Well, unless you speak Swedish, view it as a funny, exotic topping on top of the short book I wrote in English (including this surreal floral i shot this spring)  :).

Enjoy the read and have a great little weekend too people

Mothers Little Boy, chapter one
You can read the rest of the book at our website, free of charge

Once upon
[in a foresty Norse kingdom]

Liten pilt i fjällskog gick:
Rosig kind och änglablick,
Munnen röd som tufvans bär…
»Kors! hvad jag är ensam här!» — tänkte gossen.

Och han stultade så späd
Mellan höga, mörka träd:
Moder hans i sätern var —
»Här är jag min egen karl» — tänkte gossen.

Svarta djur nu kommo två,
Lufsandes, dit han sågs gå:
Stora, grymma, lurfviga —
»Jag fick sällskap, det var bra!» — tänkte gossen.

»Men hvad är det för slags djur?
Den där stora tycks mig sur…
Om jag kunde fråga mor! —
Men det måste vara kor» — tänkte gossen.

And so it was that, one sleepy Summers day, that little Olle and his older sister Sara raced and played tag and hide and seek with each other. And before you knew it, their mothers home, and safe haven, was far away and before them lay, a sprouting, wild creek that lingered through the luminous landscape.

It´s water washed in a slow and gentle way over the stony bed and protruding rocks, leafs floated by, and in the air they could hear the buzzing sound of dragon flies and bees.
And there they lay looking down from a fallen tree trunk that stretched out over the creek, at the fish and frogs that jumped, chirped, and swimmed their way through the cold water that raced down from the ever snowy northern Swedish mountains, down towards the flatter lands and villages.

The children was all rosy tired from their games and fun and equal parts exhilarated and happy, until, all of a sudden, a deer came jumping through the trees and bushes, and with a giant leap it crossed the creek and ran up over to the other side. With water splashing behind it´s petite, yet agile frame, it set off in a wild, wild hunt.

The surprised siblings laughed at it all, and then.
Behind them and to the right, a momma bear, big and brown, came out of the trees, and with her, two little cubs.

They all froze up, children, bear cubs and momma bear. And with them, the frogs and fish, even the dragon flies, they all went silent, and no one moved as time itself seemed to slow down and freeze.

Until, the silence shattered when the older sister gave up an exasperated sound,

'*it´s a MOMMA bear, run Olle, run!'.*

But Olle calmly looked at the three animals and thought to himself, "well, they don´t look dangerous at all to me, and for all I know they could be wild mountain cows, yep, I am sure of it, because they do look like really big, brown and furry cows, and my sister is never right about anything, even our mother says so. And now that Sara ran back home, at least I have good company, and they will be my bestest friends!."

inside this dream, we dream
in the land of giants

My spider, this gigantic king of wildest little critters, depicted here as he stepped outside, caught in the intermixing of the awaken world and the fluffy clouds of a dream kissed good morning, he is of course not that ancient.

But, from afar and days long gone, an ancestor to our modern birds have emerged in China. And I am sure that our fluffy spider king does not mind at all if we for a second or two talk about these feathered beings and their discovery.
It is a brand new bird species that lived in quite a different time on Earth then what we currently inhabit, roughly 130 million years ago and as of now, it is the oldest known ancestor of our modern day living birds.

The scientists responsible for uncovering this ancient bird believes that it lived in semi-aquatic environments.
If you are curious you can read more about the chinese project and discovery in Nature Communications.

New sets of eyes for the origin and early evolution of modern day birds

"The new fossil bird Archaeornithura is an important find,"
Matthew Lamanna, an assistant curator at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History said.

Most importantly perhaps, the newly discovered bird species, Archaeornithura have now pushed back the fossil record of birds’ most recent ancestors by an additional 5 million to 6 million years.

As for the name itself, it is derived from the two Greek words, ‘Archae’ and ‘ornithura’, which, when put together means ‘ancient ornithuromorph’. The name was choosen in honour of Dr Meemann Chang for her continuous support of the study of the Jehol Biota. .

You see, while it is all wonderful going to the gym for a spinning class, or to do yoga at home twice a week, or to bench press new records month in month out. Our health truly needs small daily things to keep itself top notch throughout our entire lifespan.

No, this is not old wive´s tales, this is purely scientific truths.

From your lower back, to cancer, your longevity, your mood, sex drive and creativity, the amount of body fat you accumulate through life, the health of your heart, your joints and bones, the pace with which you loose bone mass - even your lean muscle mass gains and losses.

Breaking up whatever you do a few times per day, ever other hour or so, and doing something physically active even for just a few minutes brings with it tremendous health benefits, and as such, these small things are essential even for someone like me that hit the gym hard 5 days per week.

First out, the morning call. Served with a cup or two of hot, black coffee.

Every day for all of May (for all of life really).

You´ll start your day with black coffee and some water, and then choose to do, either a morning walk for 20 minutes, or a combination of yoga and hiit MMA morning workout for anything between 10 to 20 minutes. Feel free to pick what feels the most fun for you. Fun is important since this is not just 4 weeks of to do stuff. Life is not a worthless reality show that tells you to first drop 10lbs of body weight and then lets you run off into a hailstorm of Chicken McNuggets, Pepsi and beer so you add back 30 lbs of pure body fat in 2 months time.

No.

Life long health is not about your past achievements or failures, it´s about what you do from this day and all the way until that big old clock sings it´s tune and hopefully allows us to restart instead of just fading to black :).

So. you pick your wake up call, your way and then you enjoy doing it. And you keep doing it, because the ones that do, they are the ones that keep on reaping the benefits of a greatly improved health and body composition for the rest of their life. But having said that. When you rest, when you cheat, when you fail. You do so and dont guilt trip yourself to death, we are just human, and as such, we all fail at times. What is important is getting back up and moving ahead.

Hiit-MMA?

I will write a more detailed article for a Hiit-mma workout during May. But for now, if you have no idea what you do. Then keep it simple and simply punch 10 straight punches with each arm while you do your 10 body weight squats. And kick 10 straight kicks to the mid section with each leg, and 10 kicks in a circle going from left to right - right to left - with each leg. It is not about how you kick, it´s about activating your core, your ass, your tummy, your back, your legs, your heart and lungs.

Middle of the day stuff.

But, if you where thinking that a good start is all it´s about, then no, lifelong health is not that easy to maintain and improve upon.
So, between your breakfast habits and your evening/night gym/workout sessions you will have to stay active on a daily basis. Breaking up your sedentary going ons every second hour or so of sitting still.
No matter if you are at work or at home binge watching Netflix. And if you think about it, it´s not hard at all to stand up for 5 minutes while watching Game of Thrones. Do a few body weight squats, or shadow box in the living room. Do some push ups against the tv sofa.

My suggestion is this.
Ever hour or so, break up your laziness and get up, walk for a few minutes inside of your home or office. And on top of that, do 10 body weight squats, ass to the ground style. Once done, follow up with 10 push ups, against the floor or a sofa.

And finish it up by leaning over something, a sofa, chair or against a table or similar, use your arms to keep your balance, and then kick backwards 10 times per leg and go as high as you can. Dont do it explosive, this isnt at all about kicking something martial arts style, this is about getting your lower back, your ass and your tummy and hips working.

Repeat twice and you are all done with your intermediate mid day 'sedentary timeouts'.

And no, please do understand, this does not replace your regular, real training, this is the basic, small stuff you do for your health, because breaking up being lazy like this, several times per day, for every day of life. That has huge, positive health benefits and will also help you shave off some pounds of pure body fat. In fact, as for numbers, if that is the kind of girl you are. Recent science studies have shown how daily small stuff like this together with healthy food will lower the chance of getting several cancer types with as much as 40%, sometimes even higher.

So, for May, if you don't already do stuff like this outside of your gym, yoga, sports, start laying the foundation for a much healthier life and much-improved body composition. You might not thank me in 12 weeks, but you will thank me after ten years of keeping this up, and you will do so in a big way.

Enjoy and have fun.

Next week, i will detail how to kill it in the gym, legs, ass and tummy. And for the third week we´ll take a look at how to do a real hiit-mma workout, either for your cardio/strength workout, or as a part of your daily timeout workouts. And OH, dont forget the importance eating healthy food have not just on your health, but also on your body. If you eat junk, and train hard you will for sure get faster, stronger, bigger, et cetera. But you will only reap half of the health benefits you could. And you will loose hell of a lot less body fat than you would if you also took care of eating healthy food (and not to much food).

A tower of glass, our city
from life in the near future, Earth day style

The following is a glimps in to our near future. Life in the tomorrow world, courtesy of past generations wasteful and willful disrespect for health, Science and long term thinking when it comes to all our life on Earth, for the sake of short term profit.

A sci.fi dream of course, but also one very much based on current science and social and political trends, not to mention, the basic reality of what will happen, not just to Earth, but humanity as a species and individuals, unless we, the current generation(s) do guide most of the world towards this type of future. A future that is sustainable and far healthier and equal.

As Obama said (if I paraphrase abit :P): it´s time to stop talking and start doing, our globally mutual and wasteful behaviour has done enough damage as it is, and time is out for just talking about it. We now need to actually start creating a world that is far more healthy and sustainable then it currently is.

Vertical Cities and 'smart' Farming
Sustainable progress & technology
Life inside our tower of glass

High up, in our ivory-like tower of glass, each evening we look out at the setting sun and how it after a long day of travelling, in the end, as always slowly dips each and everyone of it´s rays of light into the watery ocean.

The evening sky and rolling landscape change their hue under the traversing basking light, and in the water a rainbow of shades paints an illuminating backdrop to our good bye and good night to the day that was.

While somewhere else in our sheltered home.

A sound is heard, it is the shrieks of eagles high up above our heads, they are nesting inside our dome, and each day, as the sun sets, they return with sounds of their lasting song from the outside. Unlike us people that walks the streets of this shielded vertical city, traversing it on sky high elevators and trains, the eagles that too has made this place their home can easily pass in and out as they see fit.

We on the other hand had to pass through the big city ports down at the ground floor, huge polished air port like entrances leading in and out of our city that for every moment of every day and year were monitored and guarded.
I do not think that anyone for even a second believed that the ever present drones and artificial security was there to protect us from any outside threats. It was mainly for our own calm, to provide us with the emotional feeling that we were safe and protected.

That, and perhaps to keep short tempered citizens calm.

Inside the Dome

I look up, but i can't see the Eagles, I just hear them. And then, twenty floors beneath us, the midnight train approaches and catches my attention, I love the way the setting sun reflects upon the smooth surface of the driver less train.

You take my hand and we start walking, yet again. Our feets guiding us to the artificial water falls that provides the city with an endless loop of fresh and clean water. Water from which our man made lakes are kept alive, the water that the cities vertical, smart farms feed from and we all shower in. They also helps us generate electricity through the kinetic energy we gather from it´s violent free fall through our walled off world before it goes underground for a brief encounter with the natural ecosystem of the outside world that our water system is now an essential part of.

A watery world all in itself that also includes our free swimming, farmed fish.

Once humanity moved into these sky high cities, like fossil fuel, the unsustainable global fishing industry had already been outlawed too. But not only is fish a healthy treat, we also knew that keeping them around as a natural part of our closed off eco system had other substantial benefits.

Outside the glass walls, giant solar and wind panels hovers up in the air, tethered to the ground and the even bigger solar facilities that is scattered throughout the outside landscape. Our city of course complements it all by also collecting ground and air heating and energy from the outside world. You reach out and you pluck a few strawberries from the vertical pads where they all year round grows, we smile in secret since we are not really supposed to pluck strawberries up here.

And while we slowly walk towards the cliffs and beaches, allocated like if we were standing outside in a hidden valley somewhere, with trees and rocky cliffs and sandy shores entwined together in a fairy tale like creation. In the background, behind us, the pads moves yet again.

As we stand there, our toes dipped in the moving water and the still warming sand, the sun is gone and the system will now transports the never ending lines of strawberries back inside where they will get to enjoy a slow transport back down to ground inside a carefully temperated and perfectly humid night storage.

And then, once the sun once again rise up above the ocean floor, the strawberries will start their daily journey from the groundfloor back to the sky high ceiling of our city, strawberries, greens and other fruit, and the sun, all travelling together for the entirety of the day.

Haha, as always, I smile at the slight madness of it all.

5 million people.

That is the official number of people that is living inside this one gigantic building, an old big city block turned sky high city.

It´s own little Closed off system

Outside our walled world, you could see dozens of similar buildings, each one taking up the horizontal footprint of a traditional big city block, but all vertically housing 5 million people living in a perfectly sustainable environment. And in-between the sky high cities, untouched land where solar powered roads nestled their way in between the crops, trees, water and wildlife. Roads upon which only self-driving, electrical vehicles moved. To transport people, goods and crops between the cities.

And yes, dear reader. If you are curious, some do move, but surprisingly few ever choose to live outside our garden like cities, they ones that do end up making that choice, they all live by the same regulations as we do. Living a sustainable and healthy life, just outside our walled gardens. Some of them work inside the cities, while others never again return. But for most of us, these cities represents something of a healthy, and wonderful paradise compared to what Earth had been reduced to by human hands in the year of 2100.

Artificial burgers Say it ain't so!.

Meat producers didn't take up any traditional resources anymore, they didnt even exist.

Having gone the way of the bye bye Texas that all forms of unsustainable behaviour had, from fossil fuel to meat production and most of the traditional pulp and paper industry. Nor did we have a sugar, tobacco or alcohol industry. Neither did we over medicate healthy people with emotionally numbing medications anymore. A lot of things had changed for the better, and as a result, people were not just healthier and lived much longer, they did so being much happier too.

Yes, we still printed some things, and we still had a pulp and paper industry, but a much different one, and entirely sustainable with vast forest productions possibly having given us more forest then Earth had ever had, at least since the Dinosaours roamed these parts.

The little meat we produced was artificially grown inside the cities, and the cows that wasn't part of our outside worlds free walking dairy production had been rewilded since long. Not that we actually ate much meat anymore, it had caused to big of a strain on the elderly population, our general health and medical care with it´s negative impact on all sorts of health issues ranging from cancer to diabetes.

But most of us did enjoy the occasional treat, once a month or so, and let me tell you. Artificial meat taste as good as any old day BBQ meal ever did. And the fact that it was super healthy in comparison and so much less of a resource hog made it even better.

Show me the money

Other huge health benefits had been the clean air we where now all breathing, causing a massive uptick in general health and longevity throughout our biological lifespan. And while it had been to late to put an halt to the climate change our age of Anthropocene had caused. By now, i dont think anyone would ever want to go back, and nature and wildlife had settled for a striking comeback once we had moved inside and put an global end to unsustainable practices and energy productions.

The age of anthropocene was here and there where no reverting it. But instead of the dawn of man kind, it had been turned around in to a healthier world, a healthier man kind, and we where all winners in the end. Here on Earth and our spacebound colonies as well. But in the history books, the age of man kind would forever be remembered for how it had started, serving as a warning example of never again loosing touch with how we are but one ingredient in an important eco system that needs to be kept in balance.

Anthropocene

The word comes from the two words anthropo, which means “man,” and cene, which translates to “new”.

The meaning of the combined word comes from the fact that human- kind had caused a mass extinctions of plant and animal species, as well as polluted the oceans and lands, and even altered the atmosphere, causing  a range of century lasting impacts. Perhaps like other ages before it, it would be with us for milleniums to come

Well, there are many more current realities and scientific sound facts, that all has served as inspirations for my sci.fi near future fantasy.

But reality is, it´s our own choice between this future which I have painted here, or one where we are all fighting it out over the last puddle of fresh water. And I am sure it´s not just the people in California and India that would like to avoid even less water in their daily life :).

Truth be told, even the most stubborn greedy oil baron sees the writing on the wall, health and sustainability and equality is simply good business and ravaging Earth has run out of ground and time to keep on ticking. So rejoice - Like Mulder would have said, "the change is coming" =).

Enjoy your Earth Day, April 22.

But upon unleashing photosynthesis on the world, they did not just end one early cycle of life, they also, by freeing the oxygen trapped inside water made sure that life as we know it today would form.

Or as, Kevin Redding at Arizona State University in Tempe say.
"The extinction caused by oxygen was probably the largest ever seen, but at the same time animal life wouldn't be possible without oxygen."
Kevin Redding

So, today's photo of mine get´s a loving little dedication to that sweet thing called photosynthesis and those evil bacteria's we all owe our life :).

For many, coffee and sugar represents two superpowers emerged in an unholy alliance. But, just what makes this combo tick, and what is actually what. How does it affect your health and every day life. To find out the answer, we signed a contract with the previous couple to face off inside the octagon to determine who´s top dog and what they do to our bodies.

In the blue corner, Sugar

Pro´s: Sweet and petite, and pretty white.

Cons: Increases body fat, rots your teeth, makes you age prematurely, increases diabetes and cancer and Alzheimer risk. Does not provide fuel for strength or endurance - and does not provide sufficient brain juice.
Natures crack even makes you crave an endless array of more sugar when you eat it. That explanation comes down to our past cave men and hunter, gatherer lives - evolutionarily, our mesolimbic pathway reinforced that all the sweet things in nature provided a healthy source of carbohydrates (rich on easy to use energy and calories) for our bodies. While other taste sensations like sour meant far less desirable things. So, the more you eat, the more your dopamine and other neuro pathway signals needs to get triggered.

Which, ultimately is why it is so easy for people to over eat on junk food and why it feels so hard for so many to eat less junk food, not to mention to keep eating healthy food and say no to cookies, ice cream, soda, candy and sweets. Another reason why it initially feels hard to cut down on junk food is that a lot of people tend to get depressed when they start eating less sugar. This is however just temporary, sort of like a crack addict suffering withdrawal problems.

No, this is not just an issue for us Homo Sapiens, in a recent study, by Victor Mangabeira and colleagues, published in "Physiology & Behavior" it is reported that rats who had been trained to press a button to drink water, once exposed to sugar in the water pressed the button many more times than the rats that only had access to pure water.

In the red trunks, Coffee

Pro´s: Wonderful scent, toned, trimmed and athletic. and to boot, all pretty black.

Coffee also provides wonderful warmth and real energy for mind, body, strength and endurance.
It protects against cancer, Alzheimer, Parkinson’s, diabetes and obesity.
It aids your muscles and mind with real energy, creating a double whammy of good stuff for people that also keep physically active, all good and positive things for creativity, strength, fat burn and endurance. It is also a positive influence for your mood thanks to how it affects the production of some of our natural hormones, such as serotonin and dopamine.

Coffee have also been shown to protect against Multiple sclerosis (MS) which is a degenerative neurological disease.

Cons: It might make you sleep poorly if you drink it too late since it takes as much as 8 hours for coffee to lose its positive hold on your body.

Mutual con

Yes, there is one mutual big disadvantage to both.
The industry producing both sugar and coffee rarely takes care of the planet that provides their revenue, nor the health of their workers.
But in both cases, we the consumers can of course demand far better behavior from the producers by the shopping choices we make.

Conclusion

Skip sugar - always.
And get down with pure black coffee 4 to 5 times per day :). And, if your sweet tooth crave a sweet sensation, try some organic honey in your coffee.

230 years ago, the world was rife with profit-hungry entrepreneurs and the seven seas and all their shores lay open for the ambitious.

Beggars, pirates, warlords, priests, lords and Kings, they laid to waste and took with all their might.

Yes, I know. By now you are thinking, well, dear Mike, is that any different from now? And in some ways, no, you are right dear reader. In some ways nothing much have changed, but gladly, the world is for all its remaining faults a far better and kinder place to live in today.

Our world have slowly grown a conscious and just mind, and slowly the world is growing more responsible and equal and healthy, just not yet without its obvious to all speed bumps and beauty spots.

But for now, let us take a walk through 1784, the year that the land of Vikings laid claim to a beautiful little island called Saint-Barthelemy that soon would be a central point of evil and deranged profiteering of inhuman views and slavery. .

Kings and Priests - profit was their creed

Carl Adolf Carlsson, The Swedish island vicar, a good Christian leader of his flock had the following to say about the African slaves of that time ”negern sådan jag i Västindien haft tillfälle att observera honom är knappt till hälften människa, resten är apa och tiger.” Till och med djur skyr dem, negrer kan därför utan problem bada i hajrika vatten.”

Which when translated to English reads "The negro, as I have witnessed in west India, is barely half a human, and the remaining parts is surely ape and tiger. Even animals stay clear and the negro can therefore without problems swim in shark infested waters".

Meanwhile, back in Sweden, the ruling king had made sure to collect 25 percent of the profit that the island and its slave trade would generate.

Now, in all honesty, while the island was an important part of the global Slave trade between America and Africa, Sweden itself only shipped about 0.14% of the unfortunate people that ended up being trafficked to America during more than 34 941 shipments. But that was of course 0.14% that should never have happened, just as how no one should, today, invest in bad health, inequality and fossil fuel.

Slaves were, however expensive to own, but like all property today can be rented, so could yesterday's abused slaves. and on the island, it cost as little as 8 daler to rent one slave for a full month. Other inhuman aspects of life, 200+ years ago was that slaves could be burned, whipped, hanged and killed for pretty much anything that their owners decided.

Yes, there where rules and law that dictated how to treat a slave. And part  of that rule set included that a pregnant slave had to be laying face down on top of a hole in the ground when she was whipped.

Not in any way ment to protect her own health, but instead designed to protect the unborn child, since the child after all was considered the rightful property of the slave owner.

The Swedish botanic Bengt Euphrasén described the process of whipping a slave in graphic detail. ”Varje slag smäller som ett pistolskott och stora skinn- samt köttstycken följa ofta med från kroppen.”

In English: "Every lash of the whip sounds like if a pistol was fired, often resulting in big chunks of flesh and skin flying off the body".

the end of slavery

The slavery on the island was put to an end, when Sweden, as the last of the European countries finally ended slavery in west India 9 October 1847. The remaining 523 slaves on the island was paid for by the Swedish state, since the poor slave owners of course had to be compensated for their loss of income - the youngest one, Rosalie, 20 days old, generated 19 daler for her owner.

Today, slavery has been put to an end in most of the world (even tho some countries, like India still have millions of slaves, and others, like Saudi Arabia treats the female gender as something far less deserving than the male population).

But as i write that, even if there were no slaves and no gender inequality, I, like many others would want to make the argument that underpaid and or unemployed people are today's corporate and national slaves, paying for their greedy masters profit with their own health and lack of fulfilling lives.

And while it is not directly comparable, it too of course needs to change. But for now, we can all at least find comfort in knowing that as slow as it turns, the world do grow more intelligent and caring by age.

A healthy, fit and sexy active life
Quick Quinoa Recipe

I am re sharing this little recipe and post of mine i did for our website and +Your fitness tribe . Mixing it up is always nice and i´ve had months of my own nature and landscape photos now :)

And besides, spring is increasingly poking it´s loving head around the corner and with the warmth of sunlight, melting snow and cute little springy thingys growing out in nature. Isn't our own health and body worth a little spring cleaning too :).

Quick Quinoa Recipe

Before the delicious and easy to do recipe, a short real life proof of the benefits of adopting an active and healthy life style (even if that is just a little bit more healthy and active then before). At 48 years old, Salma Hayek is, like so many other girls and guys, without a doubt much better looking, sexy and healthy then she/they ever where as a 20 year old.

"I never exercised my whole life, but now I do yoga,” Hayek told Net-a-Porter's The Edit. “I was always borderline chubby, because I like my food and, frankly, I like my wine. I have to say, I’m pushing 50 but I feel great. I looked worse in my youth! I’m in good shape right now.”

in other words, girls and guys. Worry less about your age and just get going. The positive change always do come over time, no matter your age and current fitness/health level.

Quinoa Quick Recipe

Without further ado, A tasty and very quick to do Quinoa based meal with some whole eggs, fruit and berries thrown into the mix (for the tasty yum they provide as well as the health and fitness aspect).

And as far as the animals (and products) go that all have a part in the meal you are now about to prepare. Pick (if possible) food from ecological farmers with free walking animals and less damaging productions (and healthier produce). There is no need for you or me or anyone else to support the less healthy, sordid and inhuman parts of the global food industry. So, if you have a choice and opportunity, shop with your brain, heart, and health.

Ingredients

4 Whole Eggs (Yolk and all, While some still believe that there is something unhealthy with the Yolk, it is by far the most nutritional part of the egg and, unless you have some medical issues, will only be beneficial for you).
Quinoa (your preferred serving)
Greek Yogurt (or another thicker and sugar-free yogurt if you so prefer)
Handful of Strawberries
2 Apples
A teaspoon of Cacao

Optional.
1 tablespoon honey

How to

Mix the Honey and Quinoa and either Bake or Fry until ready. (Hey, I am free riding chef so as far as amount of time and stuff, that´s all up to you)

Serve in a cup of Yogurt mixed with the Cacao and add the hacked and sliced Apples and Strawberries on top.

Enjoy your Eggs on the side and serve with Milk from free walking cows or water or a delicious protein powdered drink :).

Beautiful at 50

Worry less about your age and a bonus wrinkle or two - they do not make you less wonderful, beautiful and sexually attractive and intellectually brilliant.

So just get going. The positive change always do come over time, no matter your age and current fitness/health level. Age will forever be second fiddle to your own lifestyle choices, not to mention. Salma is not unique at all in looking way better and hotter (and being way more brilliant in mind and soul at 50 then 20).

Neither do we actually grow tired and creatively dull and life hating by age, all those things are all about life style choices too :).

Optional
1 tablespoon honey (why not grow your own even)

And now, the little mouse :).

The Mouse In our Wall
We play in the snow, under the shooting star

Told to you, as I once told, a mind and girly soul, so beautiful.

Inside the walls of our homes, and lives. There are Undraped windows through which we see both in and out, and at night I look out and up with you.
A shooting star stirs and moves the northern lights. Like a spoon through water, it moves before our eyes. Clear as day yet slightly obfuscated through the sheets of glass, the world is silent and it could be a dream as I witness the star cut through the puffy clouds.

And at night.
Some other times, there we are, walking through life's small moments and we are holding hands.

Together, we stand outside having walked amongst the falling leafs and the subtle snow.
Rain or sunshine matters not.

Looking in, through the of night, all chilly frosty glass, the burning lamps the pleasant light and warmth that moves and lives inside.
Is it empty we ask out loud, or is there someone looking out? Back at us. Do they hear our silent minds, can they feel our burning soul and warming hands.

In between these two sides. Neither looking in or out. Or perhaps, they do them both all the time.

There live a gnarly little furry mice that move about with his love and all their friends.

At night, you can hear them talk and hug it out. They move, play and dart around, inside and outside the walls that people build. Sometimes they walk our floors, sitting near, our sleeping faces.
We kiss and make a cute little snowy angel. Your arms whisp around and I kiss your pretty lips, yet again.

And right there. In the corner of my eye. I swear the little mice sits right nearby. Looking out at us as we hug it out.
And perhaps he too thinks the very same. Looking out and about, at us and all the shooting stars.

Before we start this short journey of ours through the elusive trails that the biggest wild cat, the Amur Tiger (also known as the Siberian Tiger, and more correctly Panthera tigris altaica) have left behind it in Russia and China I would like to make one thing perfectly clear.

The Amur Tiger is in no way back on safe land.

The sharp decline have slowed down, the poaching have been halted (for now). But it´s rise back to life and sustainable numbers is still a very ephemeral thing and the Amur Tigers survival is still 100% at the mercy of the human race. We put it at the brink of extermination and we are the ones that, once we came to our senses, managed to give it the tiny glimmer of hope and refugee that the species now, slowly is clawing it´s way back to.

And in what can only be thought of as a slight twist of irony, for all his major faults and shortcomings as a human being and national leader when it comes to pretty much everything equal, healthy, peaceful and human rights related, today, the one man on Earth that has meant more for the Amur Tigers come back from the land of the dead is Russian leader Mr. Putin. .

The change started with Vladimirs personal interest

Due to human poaching, greed, illegal logging and other unsustainable industries and practices that ravaged mother Earth, human health and well-being as well as its prospering wildlife for mere profit in both Russia and China, the Amur Tiger was wiped out of existence in China more than 60 years ago.

And while the species managed to hang on to a thread and outsmart and survive the human onslaught in Russia, it´s numbers still dwindled down until just a few hundred Amur tigers remained alive in the wild. But as long as an animal species is smart enough to avoid all contact with us Humans and we don't destroy all of its habitat in our perpetual chase for more profit then, there is always hope for a better tomorrow.

For the Amur Tiger (and the even more endangered Amur Leopard), that hope rekindled in strength when the Russian President Vladimir Putin took a personal interest in its future a few years ago. And since then, through a combination of securing vast areas of land upon which it can safely prowl as well as coming down hard on poaching and illegal deforestation, and protecting not just the Tiger, but also its prey, poaching have plummeted in a big way, and the decline of the Amur Tiger is now thought to have come to a halt, possibly even, that it has slowly begun to increase it´s numbers in Russia, as well as re-establishing its long lost habitat in China.

It is as always near impossible to get an exact estimation of any wild animal population, let alone, a big cat as fierce and cunning at hunting and surviving and remaining out of sight as the elusive Amur Tiger.

So the current Russian census, the first one since 2005 when it was estimated that only 450 Amur tigers remained alive in the wild, have a steep road ahead, but all signs do point towards the big cats breeding and hunting in safety, and as a result, both increasing its habitat and numbers.

For the first time, last year, conservationists even managed to film a Siberian Tiger mother and her cubs inside of inland China where the species haven't been seen in the wild in more than 60 years.

The Long Road Ahead
Slow and steady, our hope continues to grow

While there is a long, long road ahead to safe land. And while the Amur Tiger, like so many other wild species today, might never again be able to co-exist with us human beings if we ever again lose our ways, there is hope.

Good hope even thanks to the hard work on both sides of the Russian and Chinese border to make sure that the Amur Tiger (and Leopard), as well as their prey and other animals in the region have a real future too in the wild.

The north-eastern area of China where the tigers family where spotted is prime habitat for both Tigers and other species with tens of thousands of kilometers of untouched birch forest. Much of if still intact despite decades of previous large-scale commercial and often times illegal logging, which, together with the poaching is what once killed off the tigers in the area.

Another positive change is that all the hard work in both protection as well as education and information slowly but surely is shutting down the market for fairy tale like products such as the Chinese traditional medicines, where the Tiger (and other endangered animals) are chopped up, ground down to powder and everything from the whiskers and eyes, bones and all other parts of the animal is made use of and served as a scientifically non-functional soup meant to boost virility. Or just displayed as high society status symbols and other meaningless trinkets.

So yes, in this world of turmoil, there is good hope, peaking out through valleys of mist and untold wonders :).

Just keep on grinding that fit, active and healthy lifestyle of yours.

No matter, if like me, you are years into it, or if you are just starting your first, slow baby steps, it´s all about the longevity of your perpetual workouts and daily lifestyle choices . Day in, day out for the rest of your life. That is where you find your health and fitness improvements.

Morning walk and MMA hiit cardio

No need to explain a morning walk, it is quite self-explanatory after all :). Just down your morning coffee and take a 20 to 30 minute morning walk as early as possible in the day. It´s as much about the health (and minor body fat) benefits of the walk itself as it is about the health benefits of getting your daily dose of proper daylight early in the day. So just go out and do it.

MMA hiit cardio however is my own label on this fun and intense martial arts based, cardio workout, MMA hiit cardio is all about you, and or your training partner, and a floor standing bag and then going all out explosive having some violent fun on the floor standing bag, kicking and punching in a pace that challenges YOU at whatever level you are at right now.

This is not meant to be a marathon, it´s not about getting in the way of maintaining or improving your strength and lean muscle mass, it´s about creating a sprint like cardio workout that aids you in burning body fat and maintaining or improving your lean muscle mass while also providing health and fitness improvements to your cardio performance.

So, keep the pace high and intense, turn up the music and go all out crazy with kicks, punches, knees and elbows for anything between 5 to 15 minutes. I´ll talk more about how such a workout looks like later in February and various combinations and "sets". As you can see, i did this one together with my morning walk, but you can do it right after your back workout too if you so prefer. Just dont do it immediately before lifting weights if your goal is to become more fit and toned.

Later in the day
Killing your back

Coffee and food and water and a few hours later in the day, it´s all about your big back muscles. While all muscles are important. If anyone would rate an individual's muscle groups from a health perspective, legs and back is what it´s all about. They are the biggest muscle groups and the ones that gives you the biggest health and fitness benefits if you keep challenging them on a weekly basis. A big, exhausting back (or leg) workout simply put challenges your entire body and pushes it to new strength, fitness and health levels.

Back workout
the beauty of challenging weights

My back workout consisted of 4 warm up sets and 12 kick ass heavy sets.

I always start my back workout with 4 lower weight standing row, barbell, sets. In my case, lower weight is roughly my own body weight but your mileage might be different. Stretch and walk and drink some water in between sets. You are there to workout after all, not to sit around and socialize in between your sets.

Back

Standing barbell row
4 warm up sets x 5 reps, @ body weight

Sitting row
3 set x 10 - 14 reps @ 260lbs. (Dont overdo it, it, like every exercise should be explosive and heavy enough to really challenge you, but don't go so crazy that you destroy your lower back, it´s easy to get minor pain issues with our lower backs after a few years of training the wrong way)

Standing row, barbell
3 set x 10 reps @ 297lbs + 5 reps of shrugs at the end of every set (i simply put enjoy adding these 5 bonus reps)

Chins (also called pull ups)
3 set x 15 to 20 reps @ body weight. No need to worry if your reps is lower then mine, do as many reps as you can, and repeat three times.

Shrugs, barbell
And finally, the last back exercise. Short, sweet and heavy, i love my back workouts :).
3 set x 20 to 24 reps @ 485lbs

Hoping that you had a great workout, enjoy your day and keep at it, tomorrow too :).

the science of health
to go from age 30 to 80 years old, how does that affect your cardio, body fat and lean muscle mass?

Your fears are more likely then not saying that you will grow fat and tired while losing lean muscle mass in both body and mind, no matter what you do. Right?.

Science will however,  say - no, that is not true

A healthy man (or woman) that is living a sedentary life (not being physically active in a daily physically challenging way by doing cardio and lifting weights week in week out) will indeed lose about 30% of his or her lean muscle mass going from a biological age of 30 to 80.  And the decline in cardio levels are even higher and more rapid.

But hold your horses and think about that for a while.

30 percent is a big negative thing yes, but 50 years of sedentary life is even bigger. And did you really think that sitting still and avoiding all physical, daily challenges, for 50 years would not make anyone weaker, slower, less durable and more fat?

Of course, you did not.

No one would for one second believe that anyone could get away with that.

So, let us not for a single second, confuse the effect that 50 years of sedentary life will have on any healthy person, with the hugely beneficial health and physical and emotional state the same individual would have - if they would, instead have chosen to spend those 50 years living a physically fit and active and healthy life.

Truth is, that same healthy person can do the same 50 year journey from age 30 to 80 years of age, and if everything in life would have been the same way, except that he or she would be eating healthier and staying physically active on a daily basis, that person would instead find themselves either improving their lean muscle mass and cardio performance, or keep and maintain it. Or. at the very worst, they would lose a handful of percent instead of 30 and they would keep their body fat levels at their desired amount, as well as maintain or increase their cardio performance.

All depending on their starting point and level of "fit and active and healthy" daily lifestyle commitment of course.

Short list of healthy, easy to do lifestyle choices you can start making today and keep on making for all of life

- Take a walk early in the day outside, for 20 to 30 minutes (we all need some daylight).

- Eat more fruit and whole grains. Eat eggs, berries, peanuts, slow carbs and protein rich food like sugar-free yogurt, free walking chicken, and fish.

- Avoid soda, sugar, additional salt, alcohol and red meat.

- Avoid low quality, fast carbs but do not ever be afraid of carbs from fruit and berries.

- Lift weights (roughly) 3 to 4 days per week.

- Get up and move around for 5 to ten minutes every other hour or so during the day, don't sit still and do not stare at a tv or computer screen all day long without those small active breaks. Not taking those small breaks will hurt both your body, health and eyes.

- Drink coffee but not after 17.00. (coffee is super for both your health as well as your workouts)

- Avoid smoking

- Do yoga, dancing or martial arts (or similar high intense cardio workouts) one, two or three days per week.

- take a very high paced short sprint run 1 to 2 days per week

- Have as much yummy sex every week as you feel like, all of life (it isnt just fun, it also brings with it health benefits and allows you to maintain your sexual desire and performance).

And if keeping your body fat level in check (or reducing it) is a part of your fit and active, healthy lifestyle. Then, accept this simple reality.

The quality of your food and physical activities matters the most for your health and fitness level. But if the quality is there and you already do cardio and lift weights week in week out. And you are still adding body fat - then eat less.

Your body will not be able to add or maintain it´s body fat level if you are working out and keeping physically active on a daily level and eating good quality food, unless you are eating too much.

The saying holds true, enjoy using it or loose it, and it holds true for all aspects of our body and mind and health.
