"Since April of 2011, Waiting for Haiti has been rejected by every direct funding opportunity for which it was considered. Some were public opportunities and others private. This has weighed on me quite heavily. I’ve wondered if these rejections were a result of the quality of my photographs, the writing, or if my style was simply unappealing. I also considered the possibility that these foundations may have seen Waiting for Haiti as just another project about Haiti — a subject which is now often viewed as cliché."

If you have entered into any Artists Wanted (now known as See | Me) competition and you had either a positive or negative experience, I’d love to hear about it.
Contests include: The Power of Self, Exposure, One Life, Art Takes London, Art Takes Miami, Art Takes Times Square, 3rd Ward Open Call, The Focus Project and See | Me.
I’ll be writing an essay in the near future and would like to include as many first hand accounts as possible.

"In the years since they passed, I have often struggled to decide how these images should be presented. There are two very different series. One edit focused solely on Grandma and Grandpa’s decline - the other edit was pure happiness and love. This final essay is a combination of the two."

My interview on The Candid Frame with +Ibarionex Perello is now available online, or via iTunes. We discussed Waiting for Haiti in great detail, and some of the personal events that let up to that first trip after the earthquake. Ibarionex was incredibly easy to talk to, which is great because I was quite nervous. In the end, it was like talking to a good friend who also happens to be an incredible listener. Please share this with your friends-- it is a wonderful opportunity to bring new eyes to Waiting for Haiti.
Also: If you ever need a little photography inspiration; Ibarionex has also interviewed some of my favorite teachers, mentors, and friends. Just do a search on The Candid Frame website for any of these wonderful photographers.
+Rinzi Ruiz Aline Smithson, Greg Gorman, +Eric Kim Gerd Ludwig, and Julia Dean.
Thank you again Ibarionex for this opportunity!

UPDATE
As some of you might recall awhile back, I explained on the WFH blog that two other photographers, +Jerry Englehart Jr. , +Jennifer Kaczmarek and myself were forming a 501c3 non-profit to help raise additional funds for our individual projects: Love for Alyssa, New Burma, and Waiting for Haiti. Since then, our 501c3 status has been approved and our new name locked in. We will be making some important announcements when we launch our project before the years end. Waiting for Haiti is continuing to move forward... though pretty soon it will have a much stronger back bone.
Additionally. Thanks to a generous donation from a wonderful woman named Dotty Larson (My Grandmother). I'll be returning to Haiti in less than two months to take pictures of and for J/P HRO once again.
If you have not had a chance to donate to the project yet but would like to, please v... more »

Images from the City of Demons series will be projected along side a variety of work from many other local photographers. Good booze and fine company!

I love making slide shows to different songs. It is the way I organize pictures within an album, I do it to music. I try to make the visual flow fit the with musical flow. It doesn't work when I tell someone to listen to a song when viewing the pictures because the pace is different on their end than it is on mine... so I am going to make a few slideshows in order to show the projects the way they were intended to be seen. I hope you enjoy it!
This slideshow is best viewed in the dark, on a big screen, and with a really good audio system.

Do not be too moral. You may cheat yourself out of much of life. So aim above morality. Be not simply good; be good for something.

The fundraising process continues...
There are two new posts on the Waiting for Haiti blog. I have completed my first grant proposal, and posted the current budget highlighting the minimum production requirements.
This blog is a fundraising journal; as I learn these lessons the hard way.

I have made a dedicated Tumblr for Waiting for Haiti. Every other day or so I am going to write about the fundraising process… to brainstorm ideas and to also maybe help other photographers or anyone interested understand what all goes into finding and obtaining money. Learn WITH me. I’m sure it isn’t going to be a very easy process. But it might be quite educational for both of us.
