Not only do I have to go through tons of images I haven't sorted yet (most notably everything from my trip to Canada last fall...), but now I have to test another RAW processor and compare it with +darktable. Not that I'm in any hurry to try something else than DT as it's already very good and developers are fairly active and already working on whatever few features I miss (local edits, in particular).

But, LightZone is now out in version 4, proving that once-dead software can be resurrected by passionate devs, so long as they're given the code under an open source license. So, time to give it a try.

Oh and for you out there still stuck with MS Windows, there's a version for you as well. No sign of a MacOS version at this point, but I'm sure there will be one eventually.

Don't know about you, but it doesn't look half as good in my Chrome window as it does in my Darktable window. Darn non-colour managed web browser :( Oh well, I'll just have to print it. Too bad you can't see the print...

+Luís Pedro (and other street photographers out there!), I think you're going to like this video interview of Peter Turnley very much.

I bought two prints of his through The Online Photographer (also where I found this video) and they're so full of life, it's breathtaking. Truly one of the great. So much so, I'm tempted to attend one of his workshops even though I'm not into street photography myself ;)

Paris goes to Finland!

Thomas Paris, that is. It's been too long since I've last been to the country of a thousand lakes and I'm going to remedy this. This summer, I'll spend two weeks in that most magical of places, Suomi.

I'll be visiting old friends (most of them in Turku) and hopefully will enjoy Midnight Sun, but other than that my schedule is still fairly open. Which means, I can come and visit you, for a photowalk or simply to chat over a beer. And because I know Finns, you don't have to worry, I can do the chatting part for you :) So, any chance we might meet?

Have you heard of the #Fairphone ?

This Dutch company is looking for pre-orders for a smartphone they say will be made according to the ethics of "fair trade".

Everything I've read so far seems to indicate they could do a good job of it, from their apparent honesty and transparency to the spec sheets. I'm trying to keep a healthy dose of scepticism, but this looks really interesting.

Happy Towel Day!

Last year, I did a #creative366project , shooting a new image every single day of the year, all of them using only my camera phone. And not relying on post processing to prettify them, which made it a great exercise in composition and in seeing light. Not to mention an exercise in frustration on certain days ;) Here's the full album:

I've just received my new toys from +Peak Design, makers of Capture, the first project I helped fund on kickstarter.

The leash seems nice but I don't think it's going to replace my Black Rapid strap. The cuff looks handy, especially with the nifty release system. But the best part must be the plates and especially the new MICROplate, the best Arcaèstyle plate I've tried so far for my smaller camera (m4/3) that will let me use the Black Rapid strap at the same time. Similar to what the 3LT plate let me do, but much smaller, hence much more convenient on a small camera. The Fusion Plate project (also on kickstarter) is about to get funded and we'll see how good that one is, but for the time being, I think I'll be using the Peak Design MICROplate and cuff when out with my small m4/3 camera. It's time for our second Apéro Photo ! This time we'll meet in the early afternoon, it'll be easier to get a drink at different places if we don't have to bother with reservations.

The route is not precisely determined yet, but the theme will be... beer ! There are a few excellent places in Paris to discover all kinds of brands, and that's what we'll do (with a bit a photography here and there, yes), starting at 3.00pm on Saturday, June 1. :)

Rendez-vous est donné sur la Place du Châtelet à 12h00, d'où nous prendrons le RER B qui nous emmèneras (presque) jusqu'au parc.
