Would you like to co-curate the +Summer Photos theme? Response to the submissions and write kind comments to participants mainly?

You don't need to be a photo pro, I'm nothing of the sort myself. Main thing is a kind attitude and willingness to express it verbally. I can take care of the re-sharing to the theme page as before.

The reason I'm asking is, that the summer has begun on the northern hemisphere and I haven't been able to reach my co-curator +Bieke Boonen since the end of May. She hasn't public posts on her G+ profile after 9.2.2013 either.

Google+ Powers the First 24-Hour Virtual Conference

Last December, Tomorrow's Future Today launched the first 24-hour virtual conference. Conference speakers were from around the world and presented on a variety of IT topics.

What was remarkable is that each speaker gave his or her presentation, and every attendee watched, all via Google+ Hangouts.

We're now on the eve of the second TFT and it continues to build and thrive, not only as a conference in its own right, but as a model for other conferences and organizations to follow.

 - Speakers are crowdsourced and ranked via List.ly
 - Presentation content is distributed from YouTube to other platforms like Vimeo, Pinterest, Slideshare and iTunes
 - Interested attendees can easily view presentations they may have missed

Thanks to my cousin's invitation I went to see the photos of Steve McCurry currently on show in Helsinki: I must admit that the most intriguing image was that of the "Afghan Girl", Sharbat Gula.

There may be some handprints on streets in London and Hollywood, but here in Helsinki we have footprints of wild animals: an environmental work by Andy Best and Merja Puustinen. These prints cast in bronze managed to interest even my 9 year old son, unlike the photos of Steve McCurry :)

There had just been a rain shower before we walked by this  terrace today - the music was lively and inviting, though. The sunny Marimekko tableclothes with "Unikko" design were the ones that first caught my eye :)

Edit: Since I found the easy editing options in Picasa Web Albums (the same as under the G+ Edit in the Lightbox), I usually have used some amount of editing on my photos, because I've thought that the editing have made the images better. On the other hand I've also  reached the point, where I've realized I've overused the editing options. I suppose most of the time my taste is quite natural: to edit only so that you won't easily notice that the image has been edited :)

Controlled Experiment - A month of glitch

I have +Charles Strebor to thank for taking a comment I made on his work into the practical world of mobile artistry. I had described his fine work as a controlled experiment, and here we are.

This image is a combination of two people walking opposite directions, overexposed and bathed in light, and a macro shot of a ping pong table net. The glitch layer was a blur filter to enhance the light. I found it very pleasing that the net divided them. The brightness of the yound man ensured that the net ended up behind him ;)

The backstory (following Charles' lead here) is to take sixty (60) images, combine the first and last in layers. These then get removed so that a new pair of random images get combined the next day. Thus a total of thirty (30) images, one a day for the month of June. After... more »

Best way to share photos in G+?

What's the best way to share photos in the new G+, that you've found? Which operating system and software do you use?

+Jeff Atabelo, one of our +Weekly Photo Project 2013 participants,  wrote how frustrated he's been with the new G+, how difficult the sharing photos has become.

Now that the Instant Upload feature hasn't been working on my mobile for quite a while, this is how I've done:

1) I take the photos from the camera to the desktop (Ubuntu) using a wire.
2) I upload the photo to a private Picasa Web Album where I process it.
3) I move the processed photo to a suitable public Picasa Web Album.
4) I go to G+ open the album and share the photo from there, which unfortunately produces a new photo in the "Photos from... more »

Sent feedback to Google:

"1) Wonder why processing the image in Google+ looses exif data? Why make it more difficult to use Picasa Web Albums (eg autodirect to G+ photos), if G+ looses data that interests photogs?

I've seen people complaining about this before, so I thought maybe it's fixed and gave it a try instead of going via Picasa Web Albums. I'm back to PWA now, to save the exif data.

2) Wonder if Google wants less feedback?

The feedback button is quite hidden now compared where it was before.
