in Summer we dream

Sitting outside, in this stream of warming sunshine. A wind it speaks so gently, above and around me, in that soft, yet loudly non deniable way as it sweeps down the mountain sides, the creeks and gentle trees.

So clear and massive in it´s presence this sound, and yet it never for one second feels intrusive or disturbing. Never distracting from the singing birds, the songs of species mixing and blending perfectly beautiful in the air as the sun it keeps us all warm.

My hair it ruffles soft and silent beneath this gentle wind. Connecting us all as it touches both you and me, as gentle and warming as if it where us touching each other.

The sky is blue today.

Not a cloud in sight.

silence amongst the trees

- And Working out :).

No short poems today, no big in depth (or shallow depending on your view) thoughts about life.
Today was just a pleasant, silent day amongst the trees.

Sniffing the fresh air of non polluted vistas and it´s air that rattles the leafs and branches, Accompanied by the sound of birds that lingers on as the sun and the clouds climbs the sky, their calls for their partner, anyone, someone - who knows how their love life looks like. Well, what i do know is that it was a pleasant and calm day.

And when combined with a healthy and yummy meal, great music and a visit to the gym, well, then it´s a pretty great day - almost perfect :).

Wonderer

A female leopard from the Sabi Sands gazes out into the landscape, looking at all that is presented out in front of her. I chose to convert this image into sepia as I felt it added to the nostalgic feeling this image evoke in me.

The fool and the first born

Old light from far away, through the time and space, weathered by rain, clouds, dust in the air.

Old light, bouncing through particles that traversed the unknown.
Touching the skin of you, and me, giving birth to leafs of ever green or crumbling other plants back to the soil of new flowers and small critters. All depending on amount of heat, exposure to sunlight and availability of water and shade.

Perhaps it is light that warms our skin after having touched upon the skin and plants of beings in far away planets. Seeing untold rainbows of other planetary surfaces.

a Farewell to winter

solitude in silence

like a children's play field, magical and fun sized

March of the Elephants

After spending 5 days observing and photographing the elephants in the dry and dusty plains of Amboseli, I was heartbroken to read this article on my flight back to the US: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/04/world/africa/africas-elephants-are-being-slaughtered-in-poaching-frenzy.html?pagewanted=all

With rising demand for ivory in China and lax enforcement by the authorities in Africa, the situation looks bleak. When future generations ask what happened to all of the elephants, will they accept the explanation that we wanted their tusks for jewelry and letter openers?

If a photo is a thousand words or more, then there could be an endless stream of emotional responses to every photo ever taken.

Doors opening, worlds colliding, emotional responses, memories triggered, feelings left forgotten resurfacing, or new impressions formed.

Perhaps a photograph is not just a frozen moment captured in time.
Perhaps it also carries that moment in time within itself, the sensory balance of what we felt, what we feel and see, the memories we create and associate to every little day and moment in the flesh.

Perhaps, even in the colors and the tonality, the way the highlights merge in to the shadows and darker shades.

My hope

Creating seeds
for a smile deep inside, through a gift of imagery. The tranquility and enchantment that lay inherent in both the written and spoken word as well as the imagery of life´s fragile beauty and enchanting visuals.

My favourite photo of lions. Mostly because it was a personal goal which eluded me for a long time. I don't get in the field often so these opportunites are rare. I was lucky when the sun came through after a thunderstorm and the male decided to shake off the water.

2013 came and with it time, dates and sunrises was new, and yet the same in as many ways as each day brings with it a new slate.
But no matter if we are happily enjoying the wonders of life, to be found in every little day and minor thing.

No matter if it´s a sweet treat salivating our senses and inner child, or if we marvel at the 100 billion stars, roughly, present in the milky way galaxy - our very own backyard. No matter if we are contemplating the fact that one in six of those stars have earth sized planets orbiting in or near - what we like to think of as, "habitable zones", although the exact number of planets within those habitable zones are yet to be determined.

However, no matter that, right now, here, down on earth.

Life, the +way - 1.5 year down the road

First of all - Enjoy the holidays, each and everyone of you.

Take it slow, enjoy it all and we´ll see you on the other side of the year ( unless the Mayans where right, if so, let´s all hope for a night of nice fireworks :P ).

The birth of death and life

Photosynthesis.

Let that word linger on you´r tongue for a few.
The life giver of today was once the bringer of death and destruction. 

From tiny molecules of water, long before the age of man and dinosaurs, a vile army of bacteria once set loose global mass destruction upon the face of earth as the bastard childs schemed to end the cycle of life.

But upon unleashing photosynthesis on the world, they did not just end one early cycle of life,  they also, by freeing the oxygen trapped inside water made sure that life as we know it today would form.

Or as, Kevin Redding at Arizona State University in Tempe say. "The extinction caused by oxygen was probably the largest ever seen, but at the same time animal life wouldn't be possible without oxygen."

the life and wonder of frozen rain

a silent Sunday morning, in the air,
the breath of brewing coffee
the touch of you´r fragrance, you´r hair on my shoulders draped
evoking

my senses as i open my eyes to the light of day

outside the light it warms, pours through air and particles
Kissing us through the curtains
stretching and painting
it´s touch
through the embrace of frozen water and warmth as night meets the break of our morning sun

mother nature

Mother nature, the provider of beauty unequaled, giving life as well as death.

As fierce and powerful when unleashing all her fury as she is caring and tender when calming our senses and providing our eyes and mind and very soul with beauty and memories.

Last week/days she has been reminding us just how much more fury there is stored up, waiting to be unleashed, and no matter if people believe in the impact we have on climate change or not, i think it is safe to say that no one can ignore that we have to make short and long term changes in how we do (ab)use nature.

If for nothing else because keeping on doing it the same way as before - will not help anyone a tiny little bit, but changing things at large might and there is no way society and people can afford not to try and change the way we do life.
