The push towards Automation in the Great Age of Disruption will be hard enough for the first world to get through, I can't imagine what it will be like for the 2nd world. Unless they radically change their government (they're working on it!) as well as their culture (seems way too slow to me), they are in for a horrible next few decades.
Strangely, I think the 3rd world will make the transition better than the rest of us. When you're already at the bottom, automation and disruption can't make anything worse!
In the end, I think humanity will be much better off thanks to full automation, but the transition will be painful.

Google Chrome Voice Search Thoughts
I've been experimenting with the new "Conversational Google" Chrome feature today.
For specific kinds of queries it works great. Ask it to compute a square root or how long it'll take to drive from your location to San Francisco.
Other things, though, need a lot of work:
"What happened today in Phoenix?" just returns links to Phoenix news links. Google has a whole News site it can draw from.
"Show me pictures of monkeys." Only works if you're on the Google Image search tab.
"Show me news stories about the attack today in London" : Nada. Actually, the first time I tried it read my voice as "Show me you stories about the attack today in London" and that at least showed me some relevant links. The corrected query, though, did not... more »

I thought the new feature was being able to search in Chrome just by saying "Ok Google". That doesn't work.

Weird Generational Thing
We were watching this past weekend's Saturday Night Live last night and Avynn wanted to skip past Kanye West's performance.
"That's not even music dad! It's just garbage!"
I'm actually a pretty big fan of Kanye. I think he's an insane egomaniac, but I also think he's a musical genius.
I think it's a really weird phenomenon that my son pretty much can't stand any form of rap or hip hop or R&B, etc. He's been raised mostly on alt rock, so I guess it's not too surprising, but I really enjoy a lot of hip hop, rap, R&B, etc.
How many dad's are into rap but their children hate it? lol

This is the massive scandal that the GOP should be hammering the Obama administration for. This scandal is potentially worse than anything that the Bush administration did domestically.
A free and independent press is a cornerstone of freedom. The fact that President Obama has been attempting (and is still) to erode the press is a potentially impeachable offense in my mind.

Hmmm... every day I ignore LinkedIn requests for network connections.
If you're from out of the United States, and from a country where people don't speak English, I'm not sure what use a LinkedIn connection would be for either of us.
If I were an academic or a widely traveled consultant, etc, maybe it would make sense, but I get the feeling that a lot of the connection requests I get from outside the US are attempt at spamming - finding connections in the US so they can spam business stuff to all of my other connections, etc.
And I nearly always ignore requests from anyone who's job description is "marketer" or 'guru" or "SEO" etc.

First World Awesomeness
I just sat in our Spool for an hour or so. Weather today is just about perfect.
Good/Bad: I convinced Tilde to jump in for some much needed exercise. Bad because now we have a soaking wet golden retriever who really wants back in.

This is a major pain in the ass in Google+ on iPad. After this line of text is typed in in a post, you can no longer see what the heck you're typing. I realize not everyone can type on an iPad, but I can just fine. Please fix.

Living in the Future - Today
I love how much Google Drive has evolved over the past year or two on iOS. This morning I'm waiting for some service to get done on my car, and I've been writing in Drive on my iPad. I can type nearly as fast on here as I can on a laptop.
I don't know if any of you have Albertson's grocery stores where you live, but they have a Monopoly game going on where you try to match stamps to numbers on a sheet full of prizes. The numbers, though, aren't sequential forcing you to spend a LONG time trying to find where each stamp goes. I used Drive to create a spreadsheet on my iPhone and saved a Aton of time.
