Improving patients' care in hospitals

My main medium for stuff outside of the interwbez is radio.  More particularly, it's Radio National on my ABC.  I listened to this particular show last evening and have just listened to it again this morning.

There is so much Terry Platchek (Medical Director for Performance Improvement, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital) that Terry identifies in this piece that needs to be fixed in the hospital system - around the Western world - that I see and deal with as part of my day job.  _So much_.

I commend this show to you.

Shooting with Friends: Old & New

On the Saturday, there was #BrunswalkWithFire .

On the Sunday, there was a motorbike ridge to Mount Donna Buang.

On the Monday, there was a visit to the beaches around St Kilda with +Vikki Sinnott and +Al Christensen: we shot, we ate, we shot some more, we walked, we shot some more, we drove, we shot some more, we drove some more.

And then we said g'bye to +Al Christensen: thanks Al, twas a pleasure to meet you and I'm glad we were able to catch up given that our Saturday locations didn't quite match.

In late 2006, a colleague was moving interstate and her children were dispensing with a childhood's worth of #Bionicles .  This colleague was aware of my toy collection and, more to the point, she was aware of how much time the lads spend with me: the three boxes of Bionicles were given to me and the lads... along with another surprise, which shall be for the morrow.

Above and Below

I still haven't acclimatised to the changes in how the newest incarnation of G+ doesn't share images added to albums as a single image with the album linked (other than for those uploaded with Auto-Backup, of course).  As such, I've uploaded a bit of #Cableicous  beauty shot whilst in Melbourne, re-ordered the album such that the image I wanted to share is at the top (or the beginning - depending on your view-point) and now share it with you.

I've read that this is a bug and that it's being fixed - I hope that's an accurate reflection of the situation.

One of the benefits of being a member of Zoos Victoria is that you can visit any of three zoos in Victoria (and quite a few interstate) as many times as you like during the year.  Whilst I would have hoped to get better shots of the beautiful elephants during my most recent visit (and no... I still haven't processed the images from #Derek), I did at least manage to get the cables. ;-)

Irish Strawberry Tree - Bark

This tree is a bit like #ThatBranch  or #ThatWindow  - except I see it less often: it lives in Melbourne so I only get to image it two, sometimes three, times per year.  I adore its textures, its colours and its shapes: I'm looking forward, already, to the next visit.

This is Albert - you may recognise him.  He usually sits on top of the tallest bookcase such that he can keep an eye all of the happenings.  Today, I moved him to the bench so I can make a photograph of him.  After doing so, I went to sleep.

The Toy Box - 15/05/2013

Meet Jayant: one of the ephelants in my collection that sits above the front door.  He's been around for years and was, at one stage, hanging out on my key chain.  He used to have a chain coming out of that slot on his back - twas what connected him onto the rest of the objects on my key chain. The chain, when moved, would then move his trunk. 

 Alas... alas... one day I put my hand into my pocket to get out the keys and his chain had fallen out and a wee bit of metal ended up under one of my fingernails - if I recall correctly, the keys were slung across the verandas as my hand pulled out of the pocket wondering about the cause of the pain.

Note: For this photo, Jayant is sitting on a book made of recycled elephant poo.

I took +Mr Rabbit's Big Adventure on a bike ride on Friday to discover some of my new terrain. He hopped on my mountain bike and we headed up the Toblerone Line . We met the Oulevey family who were intrigued to know what we were up to, and a sleepy "gros escargot de Bourgogne" . No chocolate was consumed, the Toblerones in question being huge concrete blocks installed during WWII, as defence against invading tanks. We didn't eat the snail either :D

Rosemary Potato Pizza with sweet Onions and Feta - Earthy delights

Because I have to atone for my food-fail of the weekend, I wanted to make something quick and easy that I can also eat tomorrow. A pizza dough can be made many way, I went for the really easy one described here: http://goo.gl/kktwG enough for about 1 baking try if rolled out thinly.

The topping is catering to my personal tastes, I love feta, red onions, Rosemary and potatoes. Combining them with a bit of Ricotta, freshly ground black pepper and extra virgin olive oil, creates a simple yet delightful dish bringing the mediterranean into my dreary and overcast German day.

This will easily feed 3 grownups :)

Ingredients

(without pizza dough)
150 g / 2/3 cup of Ricotta cheese
3-4 waxy potatoes
300 g / 2 cups of feta cheese
