"Sverd i fjell (les Epées sur les rochers) est un monument qui se trouve près de la ville de Hafrsfjord en Norvège, et qui commémore une bataille antique. Les épées sont en bronze, elles mesurent environ 10 m de haut, et elles feraient un décor parfait pour Game of Thrones."

This is really impressive, and so ad for the people who are mean.
I always have a mixed feeling about make up, because I think that it doesn't do any good to the skin. I prefer to keep all those chemicals away from my daily habits. But I love some make up for occasions. It's so fun and colorful!

This totally made me cry. My view of make-up has changed significantly over the past 2 years. I still don't like to use it myself, but I no longer judge others who do use it.___This is really impressive, and so ad for the people who are mean.

On kindness

what if... instead of focusing on the unkindnesses done to us, we focus on the kindnesses we can do.  the ones, especially, that we can do with no expectation of even a thank you.  it's amazing what we can accomplish if we stop looking for credit for what we're doing.

"We are never as kind as we want to be, but nothing outrages us more than people being unkind to us. There is nothing we feel more consistently deprived of than kindness; the unkindness of others has become our contemporary complaint. Kindness consistently preoccupies us, and yet most of us are unable to live a life guided by it."

This picture demonstrates the amazing transformative and risky method of egg laying selected in the Giant Black Ichneumon Wasp (Megarhyssa atrata).

The most fascinating aspect of the reproductive cycle in Megarhyssa atrata is the ovipositing behavior of the adult female wasps. Once a female has successfully mated she must first locate a host pigeon horntail larva, which burrows inside logs, fallen trees, or stumps at various depths. The preferred host larvae range in size from 7.1 to 31.7 mm in length. Exactly how females locate these larvae in their burrows is currently unknown but experts speculate that it is either via olfaction or auditory cues beyond a 60,000 to 10,000 cps range. (Heatwole and Davis, 1965; Heatwole, et al., 1964)

Female giant ichneumon wasps have the largest ovipositors of the three sympatric species, 12.7 to 15.24 cm long, and can parasitize larvae burrowed up to 140 mm in hardwood. A membranous pouch at the abdomen's tip holds the looped ovipositor while the female lays eggs. This provides support and stability while the stylus tip penetrates the wood. (Merrill, 1915; Sivinski and Aluja, 2003; Vamosi, 2005)

The ovipositor is inserted straight down into the wooden substrate so that it will eventually enter the host larva's burrow at an exact right angle. Females choose appropriate burrows for ovipositing so that the tip of the ovipositor will just reach the surface of the host larva. (Heatwole and Davis, 1965)

Once the female is ready to oviposit her eggs she rotates segments 8 and 9 of her abdomen and unfolds her intersegmentary membranes so that they form a disc 2 cm in diameter. The surface of this disc produces a lytic secretion that disintegrates the wooden substrate and facilitates her ability to insert her ovipositor. After she lays her ectoparasitoid eggs on the surface of the host larva she completes the same rotational movements to remove her ovipositor from the wood and the stylus returns to its resting position. (Le Lannic and Nenon, 1999)

Due to the long length of the ovipositor in female Megarhyssa atrata, completion of this cycle takes over one hour. During this period the females are particularly vulnerable to predators, hence the risk of predation is positively correlated with ovipositor length. (Vamosi, 2005)

Will your job be automated?

For now, those with the highest-skill, highest-paid jobs are probably safe, and low-skill workers are not. "Inequality is probably the foremost challenge," says Osborne. "It's not going to be a problem of there not being enough wealth. We're fairly confident that all of these technologies will continue to generate vast amounts of wealth—we'll be generating a cornucopia of increasingly cheap and wonderful goods that will be able to be produced for next to zero marginal cost. But those benefits we'll see as consumers might not necessarily be realized by workers."

It should simply feel good!

Standing In Solidarity With My Makeup Loving Sisters (and Brothers and Everyone)

I do not like chutney.  I do not want chutney on my burger.  But my desire to have a chutney-free burger gives me no right to tell any restaurant they can't serve chutney burgers or to tell any other human beings they can't have burgers with chutney.

What does that have to do with makeup?  Everything, apparently, because even though it's entirely obvious that I have no right to put my food preferences on others, too many people think they get to put their fashion preferences on the rest of the world.

I stopped wearing makeup as a teenager because I didn't like bothering with it, I didn't like how it felt on my face, and I didn't like the twisted logic my mother foisted on me about it (scolding me that "proper" women have to "put their faces on" before being seen in public but then whenever I did put on makeup she'd tell me I looked like a "French painted whore" because that is totally a thing you should call your teenaged daughter O.o).  So I gave it up and am not interested.

But as a feminist a lot of people assume I'm anti-makeup.  Nope.  My brand of feminism is about choices, and just because I choose not to bother with it doesn't give me the right to judge those who are into it.

The assumption that all women who wear makeup do it to attract men is demonstrably false.  Some women just like it.  Some find it fun and challenging to try different looks.  Some are happier with it on.  And even if some woman puts on makeup specifically for male gaze that is her choice and her right.

I do think that nobody should be required to wear it for a job unless everyone in that job is equally required to wear it for a purpose.  I do have a problem with women being considered "unprofessional" if they don't wear makeup in any field where men don't wear makeup, and similarly anywhere where women can wear makeup, men ought to be allowed to do so as well without ridicule or harassment.

But see, that's because requiring it for a job is not a choice.  It's a requirement.  And it's not fair to require fashion based on outdated binary gender roles.

Basically everyone should leave others alone to their own choices.  Can we please stop policing each other's looks?  Because we're all wasting a lot of time and energy doing so.

If you love makeup, wear it!  And it looks like the lady in this video has some fab tutorials.  Enjoy those, have fun.  But don't judge those who don't wear it as somehow less professional or sloppy.

If you don't love makeup, don't wear it!  Enjoy that time doing something else (I do!).  But don't judge those who do wear it as somehow enslaved to the patriarchy any more than the rest of us.

And if you're a dude who wants to wear makeup, do it and find sensible friends who will cheer you on.  I will if you're my friend.  Just don't ask me for tips because the last makeup I bought was five years ago when Peo wanted to be Shakespeare for Halloween so I had to find a cheap black eyeliner to draw a beard on her chin.  I know so little about makeup, Jon Snow knows more.  And could probably melt the wall by hot goth looks alone if he put on some black eyeliner.

Do it, don't do it, but either way stop telling others how to live.

#empowerment   #choice   #feminism   #equality

PS You probably have a preference as to which of her looks in this video you like best.  That's natural.  But you can keep it to yourself and not make this video about your preferences, mmkay?  This video is about empowerment and personal choice for those who wish to wear makeup or not...it is NOT an excuse for you to objectify and impose your preferences on her or anyone else.___It should simply feel good!

_The artist has been motivated to design habitable and sustainable constructions, like real futuristic forts made of iron and concrete, replacing unstable wood. The meticulously manipulated dwellings intend to provide answers to the problems of the world and as the artist explains, ‘give shape to new habitable structures in the vacuums in the perception of spaces that had previously been devastated’.
