What do I do when I am cranky and had a not-so good day? I start a new project. Oh yes.
I could be working on the 3 other projects I have going, but that would not be so..... ridiculous.
This goes much more quickly than one would think. the only time I am slowed down is in the two rows when a new pineapple is started. 2.5 motifs down.....

a nicely linked blog with references- I have often had this conversation with my husband as to why the gov't subsidizes flood and fire insurance so heavily in places it is most likely to be used. In ensures that will be many many claims to be fiiled, and many times, repeatedly.
I saw an interview with a homeowner in colorado who has sadly lost his home in the fires- but I was a little less sorry for him when he said it had happened to him at least once before. (it was late at night and I can't remember if he said once or twice)

I love it when research data surprises scientists! Not only is this a validation of the diagnosis of Gulf War syndrome, it appears to actually be two separate forms.

Interesting first finding-
"Co-author Dr. Robert Greene, UT Southwestern professor of psychiatry and a physician at the Dallas VA Medical Center, said the study is unique in showing that the need for sleep (called sleep homeostasis) can be separated from wakefulness both behaviorally and biochemically, meaning the two processes can now be studied individually.
"Two of the great mysteries in neuroscience are why do we sleep and what is sleep's function? Separating sleep need from wakefulness and identifying two different proteins involved in these steps represents a fundamental advance," he said.
If borne out by further research, this study could lead to new ways of assessing and possibly treating sleep disorders, perhaps by focusing more attention on the hours before bedtime because the quality of wakefulness has a profound effect on sleep, Dr. Yanagisawa said."

One wonder how doctors cope. A study of oncologists cited by Dr. Ofri found that these specialists learned to compartmentalize their grief. Yet the most striking finding of the study was how poorly that strategy worked. Grief spilled into the physicians’ daily lives and sapped them of their inner strength.

Ugh I am in a bad mood today...
I will attempt to rein in the snark today, so that no posts will be harmed in the making of this profile. It may be the better part of valor to go back to bed and start again this afternoon.
I feel I am sliding back a bit, and I'm not sure what to do about it. Just keep swimming, and keep using cliche's I suppose. I feel no creativity in me, and no desire to do my work. The work has not changed, and it is interesting work but I have no interest at the moment.
Rain is coming today, all day, which doesn't help. Maybe I will go make a cup of tea and sit in the reading chair for a while....
I certainly hope your day is going better!! tell me!

Nice, but I see a loophole,, as usual....
The court did not address whether the agreements, called pay-for-delay or reverse payments, were presumptively unlawful. But it laid out a number of possibilities under which the contracts could be attacked by antitrust officials.

First Arctic Fox Cubs Born at Hellabrunn in Zoo's 102-year History
Ronja, a two-year-old Arctic Fox at Munich's Hellabrunn zoo, gave birth to cubs on April 26 in the privacy of her den, but only now – roughly seven weeks later - are keepers and zoo visitors getting their first glimpse of the babies! Initially five cubs had been counted… but then, keepers spotted a sixth! The individual cubs can be identified by the color of their fur - one has white paws, another a white bib, and one is completely grey. It's still too early yet to know what sex each are. These are the first Arctic Fox cubs to be born in the entire 102 year history of the zoo.
The cubs spend most of their time cuddling up to their mother in their den. Although the little ones still sleep a lot, they are getting more active all the time. About five times a day Mom and Dad (named Yaqui, also two years old), show t... more »

Thought I'd let folks know who savor a heaping side humor with their sci-fi, that _There Goes the Galaxy_ is $0.99 again. And I've (hopefully) got it set up so it's proportionately cheap in countries other than the US, too. The book is available for both Kindle and Nook. Here is the book's official summary:
It's the age-old tale of boy meets alien abductor. Boy meets stun-gun. Boy learns he's the only one in the Universe who can save the Earth from extreme world makeover by inter-stellar landlords.
(Yeah: he thinks it's a bit much, too.)
Like everyone else on his planet, Bertram Ludlow hasn't paid much attention to fluctuations in the intergalactic real estate market. But as a cognitive psychology grad student, he has given some thought to what a complete mental breakdown looks like. And this is pretty close.
Now he’s di... more »

Sources of DNA for Forensics Investigations
DNA can be an effective identifier if used intelligently. What are some potential sources of DNA investigators can use?
• Blood is an excellent source of human DNA. DNA is present in white blood cells of humans, but not red blood cells which lack nuclei. A dime-sized spot of blood, approximately 50 µl in volume, is enough DNA for a typical VNTR analysis.
• DNA from sperm heads is usually the most important source of DNA evidence for sexual assault cases. Five µl of semen contains approximately the same amount of DNA as 50 µl of blood. Special extraction methods are required to release DNA from sperm heads. Consequently sexual assault samples can be differentially extracted. The first extraction yields primarily DNA from epithelial cells of the victim, and the second extraction yields primarily semen DNA.
