Finalborgo by night

I've recently spent a great night in Finalborgo, a nice Medieval village close to Finale Ligure. Placed near some great spots for climbing and mountain biking, in the evening you can find a lot of great people, happy for their daily activities :)

It seems the news for rhinos just keeps getting worse as they are targeted by poachers in ever increasing numbers. A good friend of mine Sam is trying hard to do something about this however. He is raising money for Save The Rhinos by running the London marathon. The catch? He'll be wearing a full-body rhino suit for the entire race! Madness I say...

I was driving my car and stopped to take some picture of this yellow flowers field, when I saw this little friend lying on the ground. This was the first kangaroo I saw (alive)

This Sulphur-crested Cockatoo is the special guest of a gas station in the australian Red Center. He has never learnt to fly, but, as you can see, he learnt how to handle money :))

Tomorrow evening Mumford and Sons live in Milan (listen to the song attached), can't wait:))

Anything from before that period is legal, while anything from afterwards – except from limited auctions of seized ivory – is illegal."

Elephant Family on the Rocks
This image is in memorial for the elephant family that was slaughtered in the Mara this weekend. I wanted a texture to add drama to the sky. After trying dozens of textures I finally decided on rock. Seemed a fitting memorial.

Epic Monviso Sunset

Last Sunday we enjoyed and epic sunset behing the Monviso peak. It's well known for its pyramid-like shape, and because it is higher than all its neighbouring peaks by about 500 m it can be seen from some distance, from the Piedmontese plateau and the Langhe hills (where I was). On the northern slopes of Monte Viso are the headwaters of the Po, the longest italian river.

The Red Center

Uluru (Ayers Rock) is one of Australia's most recognisable natural landmarks. The sandstone formation stands 348 m high , with most of its bulk lying underground, and has a total circumference of 9.4 km. Both Uluru and the nearby Kata Tjuta formation have great cultural significance for the Aṉangu people, the traditional inhabitants of the area.
Uluru is notable for appearing to change colour at different times of the day: I've taken a lot of pictures just before the sunset and this one was the most red... just a couple of minutes before the sunset!

Tree Hugger

This is one of the few shot I have of a koala with open eyes! A koala spend about 20 hours a day sleeping and the remaining time eating an average of 500 g of eucalypt leaves that are low in protein, high in indigestible substances, and contain phenolic and terpene compounds that are toxic to most species. I think I'll sleep too if I'll try that :))

Australian Sea Lion is listed ad Endangered by the IUCN Red List: The total population of Australian Sea Lions is estimated to be about 14000 but they are decreasing!

"Australian aborigines have taken Australian Sea Lions for subsistence purposes for thousands of years. Early European colonists also took sea lions for food and other products, although numbers recorded in sealing logbooks were small (Ling 1999). Harvests by sealers in the 17th and 18th centuries reduced the population and extirpated them from areas around the Bass Strait and Tasmania.

An ele with what seemed to be a tear stain under its eye, weeping for the death of all of the eles lost to man's greed. Last year, 35,000 eles were killed for their ivory. The statistics for 2012 are currently unknown. At this rate by, 2020, elephants, as we've come to know and love them in the wild, will be no more.

Sleeping in the rain

Koalas spend up to 20 hours per day sleeping and the rest eating. Not bad :))

But the Australian government has listed the koala as a threatened species in parts of the country, admitting that the species faces a serious threat from factors such as urban expansion and climate change.

Samburu Sunset

They say that somewhere in Africa the elephants have a secret grave where they go to lie down, unburden their wrinkled gray bodies, and soar away, light spirits at the end ~  Robert R. McCammon, Boy's Life

This elephant was paused at the river's edge just as we were returning from our game drive in Samburu NP, Kenya. This image was made full frame using a 300 f.2.8 with 1.4 TC, and processed in CS6 using  selective dodging and burning, selective Oil Paint Filter, Gaussian blur at 6% also applied to the water to even out the textures, and a  30% violet/orange gradient to enhance the beautiful sunset colors on the water.
