What is the point of all this work trying to become a great musician?
Great graphic from Brian and Rachel of the Band Directors FB group.

Remote desktop for mobile devices
http://jumpdesktop.com/
More and more I'm moving away from being tied to a desktop, instead trying to get more and more done on tablets or phones. There's always something that drags me back though, and for this I've recently started using Jump.
Jump provides a solid and seamless remote desktop experience for iOS and android. You can setup manually or uses a google login find access to your machine whether on the same netowrk or completely remotely.
Love the interface and the precision mouse support, as well as a full keyboard, and shared clipboard.

Babitty with the patches is a Flemish giant and NZ white cross, and little Tweak is her daughter who seems to have gotten most of the NZ white.
Babitty was being used to breed baby bunny's for a pet store when we fell in love with her and decided she deserved a better life. Little did we know she was pregnant when we bought her home, just a few days later little Tweak came into our lives too.

Rats, tried the 3GS baseband downgrade last night, but it seems I'm in the category of those phones that the downgrade didn't take to. Still on 6.15, and now have no sim/service errors, even after reinstalling Mob Substrate and ultrasn0w.
Anyone else in the same boat and have any ideas to regain service?

Sammy Nestico - A Warm Breeze
Holy mother of all thigs Basie does this chart swing!!
I havn't had the pleasure of paying or listening to this recording for about a decade, and I am blown away. I think listening to this has reminded me of why I'm a musician. The groove this band gets is incredible!!
The relationship between the drums and bass is magic. The bass is the rock, the metronome for the whole chart, matching with the downbeats of the ride while the off beats of the ride are _so back!_
Like everything with Basie/Nestico, the dynamics make this tune, both on the macro and mirco scale. The overall level is just left simmering until the last 30 seconds where the band goes for it. But within phrases, almost note to note, there is this incredible variety of dynamics - just listen to that Sax soli, every note has it's place in the ... more »

Today was a day well spent, leading the Kings College concert band trombone section in workshops. Overall the brass are doing a killer job, and the trombones are one of the strongest high school sections I've had the pleasure of working with.
It's a real treat to be introduced to great bunch of kids who are passionate about music. They already knew their parts really well which gave me the opportunity to really get them working together as an ensemble. They made awesome progress in intonation and time, and were getting more consistent with their articulation and balance.
The more together everyone is in every element of music; groove, rhythmic precision, tuning, articulation, tone and dynamics; the stronger your ensemble will sound without having to resort to brute force volume.

Meet Babitty and Tweak. Two adorable house rabbits who have been lighting up our lives for the passed 6 months.
These two are in the process of bonding and are doing very well, it's really nice to see them spending quality time together.

Got to play Blue Cellophane tonight, fantastic Trombone feature, recorded here by the amazing Lawrence Brown.
Sightreading it felt a little like playing an arban exercise, but hearing Brown's silky tone really brings it alive.

Very nice sounding arrangement of Scarborough Fair. The original quartet arrangement by Reichenbach is fleshed out well here with the choir.
Nothing sounds as sweet as a trombone choir.

As I prepare for my recital next week, I'm finding more and more that the endurance training I'm doing is less about physically building stamina and is more about mental side of performing.
It's turning into an exercise in sustained focus, sustained relaxation, and trying not to react with panic to mistakes or crazy thoughts.

Trombone Listening of the Day
Alain Trudel - The Art of the Trombone
This album of Solo trombone accompanied by organ is just exquisite. Canadian musician Alain trudel has been one of my favourite trombone players for a few years now. Mark Fisher of the Chicago Lyric Opera introduced me to Alain Trudel's playing by saying that with this guy all you hear is the music, you don't hear that he's playing a trombone. Very true.
My favourite trombone album is another to look out for by Alain Trudel - Conversations

pBone - Repairing a Plastic Trombone
Having a plastic trombone is a wonderful thing. It looks and sounds like a real trombone, weighs a fraction of a traditional brass instrument, comes in 4 mind blowing colors, and to top it all off is cheaper than most gig bags for a regular horn.
But like most musical instruments, sometimes things go wrong. While trombones are quite possible one of the simplest instruments still widely played today, there are more than a few things that can ruin your day. Over the years I've had trombone stands fall over leading to horrible collisions of bells and slides, endless waterkey springs have failed at very inopportune moments, leaks can develop in the joints of the slide, valve connections have come apart, and my recent favorite, a student had his entire neck pipe come loose from its joint.
That being said, there are plenty of... more »

Just been able to reinstall g+ on this Galaxy 551 after finally attaining an acceptable balance on this phones limited memory.
The key turned out to be going through my google contacts and deleting all of my G+ contacts from there. Reduced contact storage on the phone from 20+ mb to 2mb.....may not seem like much but when you've only got 170mb to start with, saving 20 will do just fine.
I've felt like thed crew of apollo 13 trying to power up the command module without overloading their limited power supply, walking the tightrope of memory has been a delicate process on this phone but hopefully it might be more useable now.

My pBone has arrived!
Cheap as chips plastic trombone, it sounds incredibly like a real horn, but light as a feather and super durable. Could have some fantastic possibilities in education

I'm Giving Away The First Amazon Kindle Fire EVER!
Yes, I really ordered 5 Amazon Kindle Fire tablets like 1 minute after the pre-orders opened up on Amazon. http://geekbeat.tv/fire
Some of the Livid Lobsters at our office were all like, "Why did you need 5 of these?" And I was all like, "I don't know! But I'll find a use for them!" And they were all like, "You should give some away, as you are often want to do!" And I was all like, "That's a swell idea!" and "You don't have to talk in old English."
So, here's the deal. I'm going to give away ONE of the new Amazon Kindle Fire tablets to someone who has me in a Circle here on Google+. There are only three requirements:
1) You have to be in the USA. Sorry, but shipping is nearly impossible outside the states. :-(
2) Do... more »

My wife +Lori Dorn, who has breast cancer, tells her story about a TSA agent at JFK on Friday who required her to submit to a pat down due to her breast implants, even though she had an identification card for the implants that is used to prove that the implants are an actual medical device. The TSA agent would not let Lori show her the card.
