Here's another South Auckland image.  This time at Maraetai ... well, Omana is probably more accurate ;-)

Here's a tight crop of one of Three Houses Down's support acts on stage at Studio, The Venue in Auckland.  ISO 5000, f2.8, 70-200mm lens, 1/160sec.   #lovemyd800

Well, it was another late night last night.  Great fun all the same shooting Three Houses Down at their EP launch.  The light was awkward, probably accentuated by the size of the stage really.  Not all musicians were as well let as I'd have liked, but the performances made up for that.  Here's a couple of shots of Three Houses Down's very talented Josh Moana.

Last week ... just before I started to feel pretty sick and rough ... I had the privilege of taking photos at the New Zealand Pacific Music Awards.  Wonderful atmosphere and such talent on show.  Here's a shot of the very lovely Grace Ikenasio.

Here's a 3:1 crop of the sea down at Wattle Downs, South Auckland, New Zealand.  Quite a pleasant place for a walk.

South Auckland seems to have a reputation for being an unsafe or unpleasant place.  Here's a few shots from earlier that may show some parts of South Auckland can be pleasant.

I wonder if any of you have some words of wisdom you'd like to share?

I have a colleague who'd like me to try a "stop motion" video of him wrapping of a race car in his workshop. I'd thought of using a 30 second "gap" between images, but I'm just guessing with no experience with this type of activity. Also, it would appear that I have two options for generating a movie from my D800. One is to use the Interval Timer option, collect a mass of JPEGs and then use something like iMovie on my Mac to create a movie. The second option is to use the Time-Lapse Photography option which seems to spit out a finished movie at the end of the allotted time. Do any of you folks have experience of this type of thing? If you do, then do you have any words of wisdom you might like to share to help me select the best way of capturing the movie?  Many thanks :-)

85mm f2.8 and some backlit Bougainvillea in my backyard.

I suppose it was the effect of the blurred background highlights mimicking the shape of the bougainvillea petals that amused me.  Many items in the frame seem blurred and somewhat abstract, but then there's the petals.

I think it's fair to say that summer has gone :-(  The leaves are changing colour and the temperatures are dropping.  Here's a shot looking through the leaves and branches of an oak tree towards the sun.

A few more images from the Cheesman Bush.  I managed to get there after some rain but found it very difficult to get the shots I wanted.  Quite slippery under foot and water droplet all over the camera and lenses.  Nevertheless, the rain really adds a special quality to the place.  Greens seem more lush and vibrant.

A few shots from earlier today in Manurewa.  Local folks protesting about the presence of High Zone, a store selling synthetic cannabis as well as other "legal high" drugs.  Interesting to see different ethnicities and political parties work together with a common united voice.

The Cheesman Bush?  Here's a few photos to remind you of what is to be replaced by the proposed highway. Maybe, if you're free next Wednesday, the 8th May, you'd consider coming to the public meeting at the Vodafone Events Centre?

I mentioned the Cheesman Bush about a week ago.  If you'd like to know more about the proposed road and perhaps voice your opinion, then the following may be of interest.  There's to be a public meeting to discuss the proposed "Redoubt Ridge Expressway".  The meeting is at 7.30pm on Wednesday the 8th May at the Vodafone Events Centre (previously known as the Telstra Clear Pacific Centre) on the Great South Road, Manukau.  There's a website with more details ... http://www.redoubtaction.co.nz/

I was somewhat privileged to be allowed access to a very special tract of native bush here in Auckland.  The bush is under threat of being destroyed to make way for a new four lane highway.  Standing under the canopy, listening to the birds and enjoying the peace and tranquility of the place it was hard to imagine there could be in excess of 40,000 vehicle movements per day over this beautiful place if the town planners get their way.

Interesting view earlier today downtown Auckland ... tempted me to use a fisheye lens and then use an HDR treatment.  Maybe I got a little carried away with the sliders ... but then again perhaps it works?  Maybe let me know what you think?
