There's this asshole living somewhere around here who starts up a leaf blower for 5 minutes EVERY weekday morning at 7:30am and wakes everyone up. Apparently he's been doing it for years, every day, without fail.

When you go and ask him if he can do it at another time of the day, he tells you to fuck off.

The local noise law states that you're allowed to operate domestic machinery from 7:30am on weekday mornings.

What on earth should I do?

My #android homescreen...

Just picked up a Samsung Chromebook (the new 11.6" one), and it's pretty awesome. Cheap, super light, thin, long battery life, great screen etc, and fast enough. However...

One gripe though - when I click the touchpad down, often it doesn't pick up the click - I have to push it down quite hard and hold it for about half a second.

Googling around it seems like it's a common issue to do with the build quality. Oh well, what can you expect from a $350 laptop...

We went to see the Local Natives last night, and they were awesome. The other videos I took were a bit too bassy, but this one isn't as bad.

So, I wonder if I should start using G+ now that this new design is so killer. Loving the simplicity, large type, lots of whitespace, subtle animations, and use of colour. It's really, really nice. Blows Facebook away - I just wish my friends were here, huh.

Okay, so dad's laptop running 13.04 doesn't have internet. It was working fine at my place. I think it's connected to WiFi, and they've rebooted the router and laptop, yet still no luck.

Other than trying an Ethernet cable, what else can I suggest?

For those of you running Windows, I found a nice piece of software called MacType which runs as a service to replace the stock Windows font rendering engine, which totally sucks balls.

Install it here: https://code.google.com/p/mactype/

Check out the difference between default Windows font rendering and MacType in this screenshot: http://imgur.com/a/Q9H42

You can customize the profiles and even make your own one.

At first I found Max Payne 3 a bit shit, but now that I'm 50% through and have learned to ignore the cheesy (and too long) cut scenes - preferring to focus on the wicked gunfight mechanism - I actually quite enjoy it.

There are at least three or four ways to play it - for example, one could run and gun using lots of painkillers and slow mo, or one could instead tactically hide behind objects and fight to conserve ammo and health with just a pistol. I prefer the latter!

Overall, 7/10. Haven't tried arcade mode or multiplayer yet.

Is there such a thing as a useful tablet widget for Android?

So Google Glass looks awesome, but it'd be unfortunate if we discovered that bluetooth actually causes brain tumors in a few years. I'm assuming it talks to your phone wirelessly - and we'd be wearing them on your head all day.

Ubuntu's mobile stuff looks nice. I do hope they get some OEM partners - Canonical's always had trouble with that in the past. That, and the ability to get this product in front of everyday folk and not just geeks like us will be the only way to get any market penetration.

They'll have to work pretty hard to add consumer value over what's already available with iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and Blackberry and their established ecosystems and brand recognition. Not to mention where the heavyweights will be 10 months from now before we see the first Ubuntu mobile phones and tablets available in stores.

In typical Canonical fashion, it's a very David vs. Goliath approach...

Okay. Someone help me out here. Is it just me, or is Google Now's "interest level" setting a bit ambiguous?

If I want to see more stories - do I set it to 'low' so it'll show me things I have only googled a small number of times?

Or do I set it to 'high' as in it has high sensitivity?

It's a bit like a fridge dial where you don't know whether turning it up makes it cooler or warmer...

Now that I have my 11-16mm, I want to start getting into making short films with my DSLR. The only problem is that the image is never stabilised enough. I want to do sweeping, panning, etc, but I can't move around and keep the shot stable.

At this point I'm entering territory I have no knowledge about. Do I buy a gyrostabilised thing to wear, or do I just make do with a tripod and a sliding dolly or something?

So, I need a wide angle lens. I'm torn between the Sigma 10-20mm f/4 or the Canon 24mm f/2.8. Ideally I want something wider than 20mm which is what's driving me towards the Sigma - the added flexibility of ultra wide at 10mm and wide at 20mm. It's also a bit cheaper.

But I'm also a fan of fast prime lenses (f/2.8 vs f/4) and buying Canon instead of a 'third party' brand like Sigma or Tamron. I'm not planning on doing much night shooting, and if I were, I'd have a monopod.

Am I missing a different lens in this price range? Thoughts? +Ian Hex?
