Getting from A to B

Finally got an invite to try the new Google Maps and I have to say it is really well done. I've always been a fan of Google Maps, but this version is really slick. I think it's just all the information available that makes this so useful. Kudos to Google for combining great engineering with slick presentation.

I thought Flickr was dead...

As someone who still enjoyed using Flickr, I am really pleased with it's redesign along with the amount of storage space and the news of a new Andorid app.

Images of Christchurch

I've added the last few photos of Christchurch, New Zealand to the album. It's been interesting to be going between uploading scenic landscape shots of these images of the damage and rebuild from the earthquakes in 2010 and 2011.

EDIT - So it seems that if you share a photo (or a few photos) from an existing album, you can't see the rest of the images in the  album via the photos shared. As in you can't just cycle through all my photos from Christchurch from this post. Not sure if it's a glitch or just the way this new version of Google+ works.

The New Google+

One thing that stands out to me about Google's update to Google+ is that it's users are not freaking out. Contrast this to every time Facebook makes a change and people go into full-rage mode. 

I like Google's design as of late. Clean and simple. Let's the content stand out. Obviously browsing photos on Google Plus is now more visually appealing. There's a nice flow to things.

What I'm not a fan of, or rather not going to use is the auto-enhance on photos. I don't mind the idea, but I can't see myself using it, specially because of the auto part aspect of it. If adjustments were user controlled (as well as having an auto mode), I think that makes a lot of sense. What would really make it something I would consider using, is if it made use of Nik Software's tools that Google acquired a little while back. As aLigh... more »

Took this photo of the The Remarkables mountain rang before leaving Queenstown to head out to Glenorchy.

This is one of my favorite photos I took down south. It may not work for other people, but personally I love it. The textures, the shape, the lighting - I'm really please with it. May sound egotistical to love one of my own photos but in this case, I do.

Christchurch Album

I've decided to move photos I took in Christchurch to their own album. The images I took, documenting the city 2.5 years after the earthquakes are strong enough to stand on their own, and feel odd being included with other images of scenic landscapes from other parts of New Zealand's South Island.
