Adding the "no offense to anyone" didn't help, Dr. Maestripieri.

Slightly odd place to have a tweet quoted but here it is: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/05/seven-and-a-half-things-you-need-to-know_n_1745539.html?utm_hp_ref=tw

Great article by the wonderful Carin Bondar and +Joanne Manaster  about yesterday's release by the European Commission of Research and Innovation of a video titled "Science-It's a Girl Thing". Supposedly meant to encourage girls in science, the video is indescribably awful and full of damaging stereotypes. Thanks to the power of social media, (especially twitter) the EU commission has since removed the video and started a twitter list of #realwomenofscience. We can do so much better than this, and people like Carin and Joanne prove it daily.

Today at approx. 13:00 UT the active region 1476 flexed its solar-flare-muscle and produced a beautiful M1.4-class solar flare.

M-class flares are of Medium size but can cause brief radio blackouts on Earth. Sometimes a minor radiation storm follows this solar flare category.

Since this active region is getting into a perfect location to cause space weather impact on Earth, we are certainly keeping our eyes on this sunspot group!

Just used the iconic "pale blue dot" image in a presentation for the NC science festival tomorrow. The image was taken in 1990 by the Voyager 1 spacecraft looking back at our planet from 4 billion miles away. Included in this version is part of Carl Sagan's quote about the image.

For those in the NYC area tomorrow, the space shuttle Enterprise will fly over the city before landing between 10:30 and 11:30 am EDT. Enterprise is being delivered to its new home - the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum. Here is a map of locations recommended for viewing the flyover:
