I don't even know where to begin (as I walk around my own property trying to figure out what to take care of first)... feeling overwhelmed by all the destruction around me. And to think... we were lucky (our home is still standing). sigh :/

I'll start off by thanking all the volunteers, the people that have donated (no matter the donation). Also thank you to all the countless people that I cannot think of at the moment that have aided the people effected by these horrific events. Your selfless efforts are so greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten.

We are safe. Thank you all for your texts, e-mail's, messages and fone calls; truly appreciated. And, thank you for your positive thoughts and prayers; they are greatly appreciated.

On Sunday 19 May, we were hit by a tornado... I cannot reiterate how important a tornado shelter is. If it weren't for our shelter we would have literally been sucked into the tornado.

Out of respect of our friends and neighbors that lost their lives, homes and/or property I will only post fotos of or damage (later). Again, a BIG thank you to those checking in on us.

Fredrick Alexander (aka: Freddie, Fried Rice, FreddieFredFred) bored of the cat toy (lol) and ready to tend to the ranch animals with me. He absolutely loves to work with the animals - he is awesome at corralling our plethora of animals.  And no, he is never mean, aggressive or nips... he handles it with maturity and pride. You should see him when we're finished - I swear he's smiling. (: 

I will say regardless of what anyone thinks about Pit Bull breed... I LOVE my dog and he has been so devoted, kind, loving, gentle and more importantly a friend.   Unbeknownst to us when we rescued Freddie as a puppy (at 7wks of age - age 9 now) was going to be a sort of a therapy dog for another pooch I adopted 20yrs ago (Comet lived to be 19) that had seizures.  Somehow, someway Freddie always managed to get Comet out ofhis seizur... more »

Honey Pot Ant

This ant's abdomen is hugely swollen with nectar to the size of a grape! Honey pot ants serve as living larders for the ant colony. Other ants stroke them with their antennae to make them release the stored food. They are so valuable that raider ants from other colonies will try to steal them for their food stores. Australian aboriginal people consider these ants a sweet delicacy.

30 April, 2013 "Got Pond?"

Every year I wait for the official time to plant my veggie garden; when a turtle walks across my property. Haha... I know it sounds weird, but I figure if it's okay for them to come out of the ground and roam around then it's time for me to plant my spring/summer garden. 

This little water turtle was headed towards our pond... so, like clockwork I just had to sneak up and take a snap shot.  There is no limit to the belly crawling I'll do (yes, I had to do some major belly crawling along with a lot of patience) to get my yearly foto of a turtle crossing my path. (:

18 April, 2013 "...after the storm."

Wow, last nights weather was insane.  Mother Nature must have been pretty upset.  After 2 hours of rain, hail, tornado's and high winds the gauge showed a tad less than 3 inches of rain.  The rest of the night was loud and furious with more wind and rain - when I awoke there was nearly 4 inches. Needless to say our fields/pastures are totally flooded and the South creek is flowing like the Mighty River.

I cannot believe this plant (called: Purity Candytuft) actually came out of dormancy this year; being the plant was only 1$ (at a local garden - yes, only one dollar last summer) because it was so seriously neglected.  I chose the best two out of the dried out bunch, brought them home, nurtured them like mad... and here one of them is; starting to bloom (the other is blooming as well).  They are the cutest little white cluster of flowers I've seen in a while. [before bloom on the left and after bloom on the right - same stem]

lol - Yes, I was literally blinded by the light/sunlight while taking this foto. I was trying to do something different; well, in a way I did. I have 'never' been blinded by the light when trying to take a fotograf.  Soooo, in a way mission accomplished.   (:

I know its a bit blurry and grainy however, being that I am still suffering from the headache of being instantly blinded - I think I'll not waste this shot and upload/post it - lol.

11 April 2013 "It's good to be King"

Our newest edition to the family, "Curtis" enjoying treats in the sunlight.

We are honoured to have Curtis call our home his 'forever home'.  Curtis was a mascott for SWOSU (Southwestern Oklahoma State University) for most of his life and was known as 'Duke the Bulldog" (his real name has always been Curtis).  In addition to being a mascot, Curtis also participated in several dog shows and in doing so he is was a 'Two Time Grand Champion'. After retirement last year he needed a fresh start, lots of leisure and a forever home... and we were more than willing to give this sweet pooch what he desired. (:

Finding strength in my weakness...

Normally, I am not one that sets herself up to to be vulnerable however, I finally feel that at this juncture in my life it is a must - I have kept my experience to myself simply because some people are assholes (for a lack of a better word) and have nothing positive to say (friends and family).   I’ll try not to write a Novel however, if you know me - you know that more than likely that isn’t possible (lol) - as what I am about to share is something that I have been dealing with for almost 20 years of my life; the last 9 (going on 10) being the most difficult.  I’m not sure how to go about this so here it goes.......

Day 285 of my 366Project for 2012:

"Lunch" - and it was sooooo good. (:

Being that I LOVE tacos so much and had no shells available, I decided to try to make some sort of lettuce-wrap-taco-thingy;  So today's lunch was browned meat in a pan with lots of fresh herbs from my garden along with a bit of agave nectar (for a touch of sweet) , finely chopped red onion, feta cheese (m'm cheeeeeese), julienned carrots (I felt it needed some crunch) wrapped in Hydroponic Butter Lettuce (greenhouse grown). I then topped it with a Greek yogurt and Sriracha mix (yes, I love Sriracha in my Greek yogurt).

Day 283 of my 366Project for 2012:

"Welcome to my parlor", said the spider to the fly... well, in this case it's "spider to the grasshopper".  As I went to dump the water out of the rain gauge THIS is what greeted me (mind you - the rain gauge sets about a foot above my head. Yikes!) is. After I screamed and drew back my hand, I had to catch my breath in order to go back into the house to grab my camera. I suppose the next time I want to dump the rain-water out of the rain gauge I'll approach with caution. ;-)
