Anybody else annoyed by the crappy scrolling in the new G+? If I'm scrolling down a thread, it stops before I reach the bottom and I have to move the cursor out and into the main page to scroll until the remainder of the thread appears then get back into the thread to scroll to the end. And because everything is grey I have to think about where the right place is and I don't always get it right first time. Why ????

G+ What's Hot Serves Based On Gender

I heard a rumour this morning that if your profile is set to male, you'll get different What's Hot (Explore) content than if you're set to female.

So I opened a tab with my profile which was set to female, and from that opened a fresh tab with WH.  Then I immediately changed my profile to male and opened another WH tab to compare as closely in time as possible the difference.

Holy. Fucking. Shit.

When I'm a girl, I get piles of those graphical platitudes I hate.  I have understood all along why +EcoSnark gets those more than my real profile, because she shares them to her NerdSmacked community to make fun of them (see https://plus.google.com/communities/117382348426379346016 ).  I don't plus them or share them, but they're always there.  I loathe them and it's why I have had theslide... more »

I found this very interesting, especially the findings relating to gender and the idea that we should be treating the parents instead of the children. I'm not sure if mothers should be singled out, fathers can be over protective of their daughters and in some households, may have more say in what risks they're allowed to take than the mother. Still, it's a start.

Why do people take their nervous little dogs to crowded public places like markets? I've seen so many dogs cowering and trembling, obviously terrified by all the people and noise, and their owners seem completely oblivious.

Why do politicians disguise their pandering to vested interests as a concern for people's "safety"? Why don't they just say "a lot of people who vote for me don't like gay and lesbian people so it's in my interests to rip up the rainbow crosswalk". This is a major intersection controlled by traffic lights; changing the colour of the crosswalk is not nearly as dangerous and scary as it is to watch bigots being awarded a moral victory.

I'm glad the Brazilian police are serious about charging those responsible for the deaths of 241 people. Nobody should be allowed to carry on making money from a club that is in breach of safety regulations, has no working fire extinguishers and blocks the fire exits. Do club owners block fire exits so people can't sneak in the back door for free? They'd rather lots of people died than miss out on a few dollars. Even the mayor might face charges.

What a joke! Winfrey the most influential celebrity? Who did they ask? Anybody under 45? I'd bet money that hip hop and pop celebrities are having a much deeper influence on a much bigger audience than she is.
