Can manipulation of market indexes be detected with machine learning techniques such as Support Vector Machines (SVM)? An interesting case study, in the context of the London Interbank Offered Rate (Libor) manipulation in 2005, is an analysis of Libor submissions with data from 2005 until 2011 used to train a SVM. It appears to be a promising approach.

I hope its repercussion could bring more attention to plagues as sexism and racism that still haunt us.

On #standingwithDNLee , +David Kroll has written a post with a recap and commentary of the whole incident. This post has just recently been updated with the news that Biology Online has sent an apology to +DN Lee and also issued a public apology on the matter (see link at the bottom of David Kroll's post). In addition they also mentioned that they have fired "Ofek" - the person who sent Dr. Lee the offensive email.
Also well worth reading is a post written by Daniel Lende at the Neuroanthopology blog which analysed on the role gender, race, and class has played in this incident, and what it might say about who +Scientific American sees as their main audience: http://blogs.plos.org/neuroanthropology/2013/10/14/lily-white/

But it kills and worsens millions of lives. It is particularly deadly for those that cannot escape the fate of obeying. So most leaders are in fact stress inducers — in the sense of a public health menace. ACCIDENTALLY, scientists created the THINNEST SHEET OF GLASS of the WORLD ( just one molecule thick ) and in the process REVEALED the elusive structure of the molecular arrangement in glass !!!

Drug Addiction is a worrying social problem, but scientific evidence is being twisted to portrait drugs as a devilish inescapable trap.
Unhappily to those that would like to think the addicted as the main responsible for the problem, even the dynamics found on rats, show that drug addiction is a far more complex phenomenom that outreach neuroscience and public health.

To what extent should democratic freedom protect absurd claims?
Easily, one's attempt to restrain what kind of thinking deserve credit from what should be inhibited could give birth to a "thought police" and be a deadly kiss on democracy. But I confess, that several times, this Asimov's quote echoes in me. Unhappily, I think it doesn't apply only to USA, and I am affraid it is actually worse here in Brazil.

A neuroscientist at the National Institute on Aging has proposed that our evolution could have been driven by running after food and, interestingly,
it appears that long-distance running in warm conditions is one of the few physical feat in which humans shine.
