Benjamin Wimmer3,011Back in 1983 the ZX Spectrum classic *Manic Miner* by _Matthew Smith_ was released. 30 years later, it's the game to be played in the 4th _Retro Gamers Challenge_. h/t to @106168709712720711347 for picking this gem. While the targeted platform is ZX Spectrum, feel free to play it on whatever hardware you want and submit your score. As before, the event-feature is misused to define a deadline, so you can start posting your scores - yes, multiple submissions are welcomed - right away till Sun, Mar 10 (7:00 PM, CET). How to participate in this challenge: ○ Fire up your copy of _Manic Miner_ ○ Grab all the items ○ Jump over all the enemies ○ Clear as many levels as you can ○ Take a photo/snapshot of your score ○ Share your scores with this event ○ Repeat Lastly, although it's an event of the _Retro Gamers Community_ (you can join us here: goo.gl/ttIOe), sharing it with other gamers out there is of course welcomed. Past challenges #1: Tetris (GameBoy) goo.gl/FGTLi  #2: Chuckie Egg (Amstrad CPC) goo.gl/Yqwcl  #3: Time Bandit (Tandy CoCo) goo.gl/3E6pDRetro Gamers Challenge #4: Manic Miner2013-03-10 19:00:0015
Ghostbusters @ Gartenbaukino.at2013-02-21 20:30:002
Benjamin Wimmer3,011With all the snow and ice outside, why not stay inside and join *Retro Gamers Challenge #3*? This time, it was +John Hattan who had the honor to select a game and he came up with the legendary TRS-80 CoCo classic *Time Bandit* (trs-80.org/time-bandit). As before, the event-feature is misused to define a _deadline_, so you can start posting your scores - yes, multiple submissions are welcomed - right away till *Sun, Feb 3 (7:00 PM, CET)*. How to participate in this challenge: ○ Open the CoCo Java Emulator available at haplessgenius.com/mocha/ ○ Click "Setup" > Tab "Bin" and chose the program "Time Bandit" ○ Press "K" to start a new game ○ Arrow keys to move and Space to fire ○ Shoot enemies, steal treasures, collect keys, jump into the teleport fields and clear as many worlds as possible ○ Take a photo/snapshot of your score ○ Share your scores with this event ○ Repeat You can of course also play on your original hardware or any other emulator. Regarding other ports (e.g. for _Amiga_ or _Atari ST_): these ports differ in various aspects, so while I look forward to see screenshots and scores of these versions as well, mixing these and the CoCo won't really be possible. Depending on the number of submissions, there is however a chance to compose a second highscore table :-) Lastly, although it's an event of the Retro Gamers Community (you can join us here: goo.gl/ttIOe) it is defined as a public event, therefore feel free to share and to invite other gamers. _Past challenges_ #1: Tetris (GameBoy) goo.gl/FGTLi  #2: Chuckie Egg (Amstrad CPC) goo.gl/Yqwcl Retro Gamers Challenge #3: Time Bandit2013-02-03 19:00:0010
Benjamin Wimmer3,011There’s nothing better than starting a new year with a little challenge, right? The game to be played for the *Second Retro Gamers Challenge* was picked by +Jamie Gunn and he opted for *Chuckie Egg* on the _Amstrad CPC_. While the various ports do differ slightly, I would say that all platforms are welcomed although try to go for the _Amstrad CPC_ one if possible. Again, this event is misused to define a *deadline*, so you can start posting your scores - yes, multiple submissions are possible - right away *till Sun, Jan 13 (7:00 PM, CET)*. How to participate in this challenge: ○ Setup your gear (original hardware or emulator) ○ Start a fresh game (Difficulty level 3 on C64) ○ No cheating (cheat codes, use of save-stats) ○ Take a photo/snapshot of your score ○ Share your scores with this event ○ Play again ;-) Lastly, although it's an event of the *Retro Gamers Community* (you can join us here: goo.gl/ttIOe) it is defined as a _public_ event, therefore feel free to share and to invite other gamers. _Past challenges_ #1: Tetris (GameBoy) goo.gl/FGTLiRetro Gamers Challenge #2: Chuckie Egg2013-01-13 19:00:0011

Finally got my hands on a copy – a still factory sealed copy in fact – of the regular TES: Morrowind big box that was released in the German speaking world.

Scans to be added to my site as well as to mobygames.com soon.

Today is April Fools' Day and while I'm not really into "celebrating" that very day, the fact that my site bigboxcollection.com has just gone full circle does kinda fit in perfectly.

It's wonky and silly but it's now possible to download all of my 3Dified boxes. As paper crafts. To do whatever you wanna do with it. Start a miniature collection! Turn them into key rings! Print them in high quality and sell 'em on eBay! Nope, don't do that.

Finding time for keeping my virtual game shelf over at bigboxcollection.com up to date is hard enough so why not just add another layer of information making it an even more impossible task?

Jup, I really got myself into quite some trouble with that and while the technical framework is somewhat up-and-running, I'm still at the beginning of researching aka digging up data. Here's an overview of data I'd like to add:

Metadata
○ Release info
○ Date of purchase narrowed down to the year at least (right now, the date is either date of purchase or date of the scan added to the site :-/)
○ Money payed for it although this will mostly be private
○ Links to Wikipedia, mobygames for more detailed information
○ Links to gog.com, Steam for purchasing the games
○ Connections to other games (sequel, spin-off, remake,...)

Info bits
○ Description of box, content and feelies
○ Why/how/... added to the collection
○ Rank of the box art in comparison to the rest of my collection

Media
○ The game's title screen (IMHO a very important asset of games)
○ Scans of posters and extras
○ Maybe screenshots, animations and (intro) videos

Further down the road I of course also see possibilities for interaction such as:
○ Adding tags (in my collection; played it)
○ Rating/Ranking
○ Comments

Last but not least, I'm thinking of adding a small blog/journal feature which would allow me to collect short meta/update posts.

Thoughts?___

Who is in trying to beat +Steve Wozniak's Tetris high score from July 1991? 546k points shouldn't be that hard, right?
