Jo Lane4,063Did you not mark your calendars? Shame, shame. Last year +Scott Cramer dared me to sit under my desk at work and share a picture; I did, he reshared and viral chaos ensued ;P It was so much fun that we decided to make it an annual event, so get under your desk (or kitchen table or coffee table), take a pic and post it on G+ with the ridiculously long hashtag #InternationalTakeAPictureUnderYourDeskDay ! And, mind your noggin. Last year some companies even got their whole office involved; along with kids and pets - sitting under your desk is for everyone ;P It's Friday. You aren't really working anyway. Andrij “Andrew” Harasewych342,091It's been a pretty disappointing year for some of us, celestial sights wise. There have been the usual meteor showers (it was cloudy for me every time), the transit of Venus (also cloudy) and several eclipses (none were visible from my area). Luckily, we still have the Geminids left. They're generally considered to be one of the best and most reliable meteor showers of the year, so hopefully we'll get a good show. They will appear to radiate from the constellation of Gemini, and you could spot up to 120 meteors per hour. The moon will be new meaning that visibility should be very good. Although Dec 13th-14th is the peak, meteors will be visible for several days before and after that so don't forget to look up this week. As usual, if you get any good photographs/videos please send them our way!Geminid Meteor Shower2012-12-14 00:00:00163

Opt-In Circle Announcement!

Because I am me, I am going to be taking and posting pictures of my run-in with the stay-puft marshmallow man flamey marshmallow of doom - that is, of the burn that was inflicted upon me as it heals. But also because I am me, I am aware that I have quite a few followers who very much do not want to see such things, because of injury triggers, medical triggers, sympathetic pain wibblies, or just because they don't find other people's injuries to be interesting or what they want in their stream.

Therefore, I will only be posting the pictures to a circle to which one must request to be added in order to be added. If you want to be in the Burning Bliss 2K15 circle, comment here, or post me privately, or send an IM or email - you just have to ask in order to see it.

Good mornthing afternoonthing!

I left this too long and started getting concerned texts. Sorry guys!  TL;DR everything is fine.

Longform is longer than TL;DR, natch. Yesterday was DG's birthday. She is nine! To celebrate, we went out to dinner at the restaurant of her choosing, which was The Olive Garden. I haven't eaten at an Olive Garden in about a decade, but the breadsticks are still squishy salty garlicky crackloafs .At one point while we were waiting for our food, DG was asking what do if she couldn't get her crayons open and teasingly I said, "Well obviously, you say 'Moo-ooo-ooo-oo-oooooom, will you heeelllllllp meeeeeee?!'" - a viable tease, because the kid never does those dipthong-stacking whinges at me.

Her face. Lit. Up. "I can call you Mom?"

"Yes!" I said, somehow managing to not... more »

Good mornthing!

This post brought to you by the color sleepy and the number nope.

Between reading for the annotated bib, doing the mom thing so SALM could do an important computer thing, and doing my Chaucer reading for today, I stayed up way past my bedtime last night. Consequently, I am upright and dressed and attempting the putting-words-into-sentences-doing, but I wouldn't go so far as to say I am really awake.

This does not change the fact that I have to leave the house at 7 for my 8am class, nor that the rest of the day is absolutely a reading-and-annotated-bib day, because it is due at 8am tomorrow.

That does not change that right now I am afflicted with a serious case of the snoozles and the fuckarounds.

Pretend that I have more interesting things to say, and I will pretend to be awake and vibrant in class.

Good mornthing!

Today's selfie is carefully angled so you don't have to look at the undressed burn wound if you don't want to. (If you do want to, there's an opt-in circle for that)

I'm a little on the tired side after a night of vibrant dreams and interrupted sleep. I slept without gauze on because of reasons, and therefore kept waking up every few hours to make sure I hadn't rolled over onto that side; the last thing I needed was to wake up and find my face fused to the pillowcase.

Despite the fact that my body refused to believe that I didn't want to be up at 6am, at which point it woke up every twenty minutes until I got up, I'm having a decent morning. I'm dressed, I have cold-brew, I have a new batch of it in the fridge, and I have the prospect of some kiddo-time before me. In keeping with my increasing Momitude in the world... more »

I'm dressed, I have cold-brew, I have a new batch of it in the fridge, and I have the prospect of some kiddo-time before me. In keeping with my increasing Momitude in the world of DG, I have been tapped to take her to the dentist this morning - for the first time in two years, because her birthmom didn't have the spoons to take her while she was fighting cancer. And I'm going with monies and medical info and a note giving me full authority to make medical and dental decisions for the kiddo, which is good because her two front teeth are coming in HELLA crooked and I'm pretty sure they are going to want to get the braces happening all up in that shiznit ASAP.

Also, I got floatyhearts from one of my favorite authors on Twitter today, so that was pretty awesome.

My plan for me? Read ALL THE ARTICLES. 8 down, 21 to go. Much as I don't love doing annotated biblios, this is helping me get a better grasp of which articles are going to actually be useful for this paper and which need to be shoved back in the academic closet to be used for something else some other time.

I'd rather be reading for fun. Ach. TWO WEEKS. Then I can read anything I want, and wrangle all the editing projects, and...

It's not awful, honestly; first degree is the comparatively wimpiest type of burn. But I'm not going to inflict it on you if you don't want it, even in colorful pixel-image form.

Good mornthing!

Two injuries, one picture! This selfie was maybe a little awkward to take, but I persevered. The bruise is etch-a-sketching nice, SALM told me last night, so that's pretty cool. The burn I have not yet looked at this morning - the dressing is supposed to stay on until tomorrow. I think I'm going to change it later, though. This morning my real challenge was not the picture, but taking a shower without getting my burn dressing wet. I'm not positive that it didn't get damp, but that dampness could also just be the ointment underneath. Either way, I have no more big bandages and no more gauze, and having weighed 'moist dressing' versus 'raw and unprotected wound,' I am keeping the dressing on.

Chaucer this morning! This weekend's reading was relatively short, thank Zod; we hit the Physician's Tale, which makes me want to smack everyone who calls Chaucer a feminist with a wet trout, and the Pardoner's Tale, which had me going What? ....what? for just so long, and then all of a sudden I saw what was coming and dissolved into giggles.

I have lots of articles to read tonight - annotated bibliography due Thursday, whee! I hate those things. On the fun side, there's a kid in the class who is just starting his grad program, and he'd had nobody show him how to do ANYthing at the school, so last week I ran him through how to look up articles, how to request things through ILL/DDS, and how to set up an annotated bibliography. This led to further queries via email over the weekend. "How much of the article am I supposed to actually read?" I LOL'd. And then told him all of it, but try to at least skim deeply enough to be able to grasp and then explain all the main points in his summary. :p

Good mornthing!

Here's me, stylin' a bandage upon my thickly ointmented face. I'm going to have to hunt up some medicated gauze and med tape to treat the burn properly, but I'm going with what I've got right now: A large bandage over triple antibiotic ointment, and some ibuprofen.

So last weekend water attacked me. This weekend was fire. What do you guys think is going to jump me next weekend - earth or air?

It is Sunday, and a relatively quiet day here at Casa Del SALM. We're slowly getting DG prepped for a playdate at a friend's house, during which we are going to have some grownup time out on a sekrit mission. The balance of my day is going to be Chaucer All The Things; I have hella articles to read, and an annotated bibliography due Thursday.

There is still nothing in my WRITE notebook.

Good mornthing from the passenger seat of the SALM-mobile!

We are en route to Cardinal Cove for the big summer party my parents have every year. James is suited up with a brand new bathing suit, as the last one seems to have vanished in the last move, and DG is super excited for swimming and fishing. I'm mostly just pleased for a day of chillax out of the apartment; I'm not the biggest fan of spending long periods of time with his mom because of reasons. I am also really looking forward to getting into the jacuzzi. There is a muscle in my back that has bound up for two days.

Bonus picture: the state of the bruise. A few days ago DG said it was shaped like a seahorse. I'm thinking it's more like a bluefish. What shape do you see?

Have suggestions, inspiration, intriguing prompt lines or images? Private post them at me, or email them to bliss AT callmebliss DOT com.

Good mornthing!

Slept in, had breakfast with DG, and it's just about time to get moving on my homework.... which means reading. Lots of reading of articles regarding The Canterbury Tales and the Frame Story Narrative and whatnot.

I'm around if people want to chitchat, but responses might be slow

I've discovered that I only have a few pages left in my notebook; I think I might take DG for a drive over to B&N and snag a replacement notebook out of the annual August sale bins. Whatever they have will probably be stupid looking, but eh. It's got pages.

Good mornthing!

Ah, showers. On the upside, I'm totally clean and fresh and ready to put on a nice perfume and get on with my day. On the downside, I have 6 minutes before I need to be  out the door for school and I haven't even had breakfast yet. Looks like it's a bagel-in-the-car day. I wonder if I can manage an open mug of coffee without spilling it. (We need travel mugs this is terrible)

I made it through Melibee last night! And Professorman kept telling us that it was awful and okay to skim, but Zodcram if I don't have opinions and whatnot after reading it all the way through.

I have part of a fairytale brewing. I have someone doing a thing with some stuff but IDEFK what any of it MEANS.

Anyway, have some wet hair and a messy background and LOTS OF USELESS INFORMATION ABOUT ME trollolol.

You know what you need? Dirty Mad Libs.

This recording includes only the final versions - if you want to hear the inclusion of the audience suggestions, you'll need to download the Nobilis Erotica Podcast App, because awesomeness and extras abound. :D

It got hilarious. And a little horrifying. There was at least one audience member for whom I was legitimately concerned that they might fall out of their chair and die, all purple and corseted. XD

It should go without saying that there is naughty content and #NSFW .

It got hilarious. And a little horrifying. There was at least one audience member for whom I was legitimately concerned that they might fall out of their chair and die, all purple and corseted. XD

It should go without saying that there is naughty content and #NSFW . ___

Diiiiiid I just agree to read Boccacio's Decameron as a second primary text for my paper after having a discussion with my professor about framing narratives and also the inherent issues of attempting to transport both modern feminism and modern phenomenology to 14th century England?

Yyyyyyyup.

Time to figure out whether there is an authoritative English translation, and how fast can I get it through ILL.

Good mornthing!

I have coffee on my coffee so I can coffee while I coffee... which is important, because I misspelled mornthing three times before I got it right. I also typo'd 4 different words in that sentence.

I woke up with my hair looking this awesome, literally; I went to sleep with my hair clip in last night, it was like, "whatup, I got you these shwoops and this feak and I hope you like it" and I was like DAYum!

I have found that, for reasons I cannot divine, I get the absolute sketchiest of wifi signals when the bedroom door is closed, but it's fine if the door is open. This makes no sense to me, and puts a real damper on my porn-watching game. :-/

"Yes!" I said, somehow managing to not collapse in a pile of giggles and tears as she got visibly delighted. "Do you WANT to call me mom?"

"Yeah!"

So. It was her birthday but I think we both got a present. :D

This morning being a day without school, I slept in a bit, got up, fed her, took ibuprofen, and crawled back into bed for another hour before basically... hanging out with the kid. We played with her ferret, did her hair, had lunch, wrangled her bike out of her grandmum's car trunk, pumped the tires, and she tried biking without training wheels in the back yard. The yard is slopey, so I had her start  just by coming down the slope with her feet just off the ground, gliding to practice balancing. When she got the hang of that, she started pedalling. We got a few tries in up on the driveway as well before I felt a few raindrops and we called it a day, opting to head back into A/C until her godmother comes to pick her up for a visit.

That's when I found the texts. >.>

So I hope y'all are now sufficiently reassured; I'm going to zoom through notifications, and then gt started on my homework. MOAR CHAUCER!!!

Good mornthing!

This whole "ow" thing is getting really old. It took two ibuprofen and the last glass of sake in the bottle to go to sleep (sadly, there were no extra glasses on top of it), and I nonetheless woke up with my alarm and would have cringed if moving didn't hurt more than laying still. The best I could do was roll onto my back and just try to slowly, gently stretch until I could swing my legs out and push up to sitting.

I got all the way ready and still had extra time, so I sat down and colored a little Happy Birthday poster for DG; I taped it to the hallway wall across from her bedroom door, so in theory she will see it as soon as she comes out of her room this morning. I still had a little time, so I decided to leave early for school and treat myself to Dunkin on the way.

I still had a little time, so I decided to leave early for school and treat myself to Dunkin on the way.

Except, the keys.

On Thursday, SALM took the train in to work so DG and I could drive up to pick him up in his car, a Prius, and use that awesome gas mileage to make the trip to Dingley Dell. To make sure I didn't lose his key, I attached it to my keys. Once we picked him up, we switched and he drove. I neglected to retrieve my keys all weekend. So when he went to work this morning, they went with him.

He is graciously returning home to give them to me, but it's still going to be another quarter of an hour, and I should have left 15 minutes ago in order to be on time to class; it takes between 40-50 minutes to get from the apartment here to the classroom at school, including parking and walking-in time. I am late. I am very unhappy about this, but have nobody to blame but myself. I was not appropriately responsible for the whereabouts of my keys.

I have sent the professor an email that I do not know if he will get. I don't know  if he is in the habit of checking his email prior to an 8am Monday class. I tendered my apologies, both to him and to the class, and attached my reading response as proof that this is not some shoddy dodge to snag an extra hour to work on a 300 word assignment.

Everything hurts and nothing is beautiful. Monday, why are you so you?!

Tell me something good.

Many folks also know +Ilyanna Kreske, and that Kreskestan relocates to Lake Champlain every other year. I was a visitor to Dingley Dell two years ago, and am again this year - and Lisa is here also, on a well-deserved week long vacation of having exactly zero responsibility to anyone other than herself.

Dingley Dell is on an island in Lake Champlain, and the property extends all the way down to the water on one side of the island. This means that afternoons generally feature everyone tromping down to the waterfront, carefully avoiding the poison ivy on the way through the woods (with varying levels of success), to swim and go tubing off the motorboat, and new this year to go sailing on the beautiful little butterfly boats that arrived at the camp. There is one little red one (which has just at this very moment been named The Last Chance after the pirate ship in Beneath the Jolly Roger (pimp: http://amzn.to/1Svgeto ) , and one little blue one, which was named before I arrived: Halcyone, after the spaceship in Derelict.

Now, I grew up on boats. We always had boats when I was a kid, and sometimes it was a sailboat (usually some sort of cabin cruiser) and sometimes it was a motorboat meant for lobstering. I had somehow never gotten around, however, to straight-up learning how to sail. Lisa, however, has a  lot of experience sailing, and when I asked her if she would teach me a little bit she graciously agreed.

On Friday, I ended up accepting motorboat-driving duty for the kids to be able to go tubing, and Lisa took Halcyone out. It was a comparatively still day, especially inside the bay/cove where we play. Outside the cove it gets more breezy and the water more choppy, because the water is wide and there are relatively few windbreaks in the open water. I had a lot of fun driving the boat and swimming around.

Yesterday, I took +James Lucas for a walk down to the south end of the island, partly just for the sake of going for a nice walk (we like walks) and partly so that I could show him the the swampy forest fulllllllllllll of brightly-painted birdhouses. We found, unexpectedly, a dead pike missing its tail in the bushes on the wrong side of the road. We crossed to the beach and fiddled with slate stones and sat on a thick driftwood log and watched the waves crash heartily on the shore, and admired the gumption of an ant crawling through the stones and somehow managing never to get swept away when the waves washed over it. We got almost all the way back before one of the blisters developing on the back of my heel ripped open; I doffed  my sandals and have been barefoot ever since.

When we got back, mere minutes later it seemed, +AmyBeth Inverness and her family group  showed  up, adding two each to our numbers of children and grownups, and their arrival marked the time for heading down to the waterfront. Folks who were  not yet in bathing suits wriggled into them, towels and hats and sunscreen were gathered, and off people went. I wasn't really feeling the whole swimming thing, so I just remained in my maxi dress and carried my bag down to the waterfront, intending to enjoy the sun, soak my feet off the edge of a rock, and read Chaucer while the children frolicked on the tubes. That's right, I went down to the waterfront intending not to swim.

The sun was so bright that it was hard to focus on the pages, though, even after Yannacakes loaned me her hat. So when Lisa said to me, "Hey Bliss! Want to go for a sail?" Naturally I squealed, and Yanna let me borrow her life jacket and we snickered over the trials and tribulations of trying to get a life jacket to fit right when you're already a bit of a Mae West anyhow.

Yanna's husband - Mister Y - and AmyBeth and all the kids had already taken off to do the magic of tubing out on the lake, and Yanna, Lisa, and I got Halcyone out onto the water. Being the student, I got in first and settled in near the mast facing astern, and placed the daggerboard once they'd gotten us deep enough. Lisa climbed in, Yanna gave us a nice shove, and we were off across the relatively calm bay, searching for the wind.

We found a nice point of sail, and I hungrily soaked up the terms an how-tos as Lisa graciously poured them over me. I own that perhaps I was taking up a bit too much of her attention, which means that neither of us realized how close we were getting to the mouth of the bay until we were beyond it.

Suddenly, instead of relatively smooth water and a steady little breeze, we were in a hearty wind and shin-height waves were slapping the size of the boat. It shifted, the sail slammed hard in that direction, and the boat tilted sharply to one side - and we were both unready for the suddenness and the angle of the list. And even on the water, human bodies are subject to gravity.

We fell in.

Thanks to the lifejackets, we barely went under before we resurfaced, and I followed Lisa's lead in disentangling ourselves from the rigging and swimming around the stern to the bottom side of the boat - at which point we had discovered the daggerboard had slid out. I went back "topside" and retrieved the floating board, and slid it in. When I got back to the bottomside of the boat, Lisa was hanging onto the end of it with her feet planted on the in-the-water edge of the boat to try to get the mast and sail to lift and swing free. I joined her in hanging onto the daggerboard and pushing my feet against the boat. We pushed and we pulled. We pulled and we pushed. We looked further out on the lake and could see the motorboat, but they were making no moves in our direction and we decided we couldn't count on them coming to assist us.

Meanwhile, the breeze still blew, and the waves still came, slapping against the boat; the downside, at least, was the lee side, and we were not getting buffeted against the keel. This is one of many things for which we are grateful. The movement of the wind and water was also pushing us toward the rock shore just outside one side of the bay - right where there were four young men in the water, and when they saw that were weren't able to get the boat flipped upright, they came swimming out to meet us.

They were somewhere collectively in the 14-17 age range, I'd say - and they were great. Lisa and I agreed that what was really awesome was that they came to help and did not just jump in trying to do stuff, but first asked if we wanted help, and then asked what we wanted them to do. They monkeyed up onto the boat from the bow, adding more weight to the keel side, and we heaved, and we hauled, and with a great joyous cry we threw ourselves back once the mast and sail pulled free and Halcyon was up again.

We were really tired from trying to flip the boat and hang on, though, and Lisa was not sure she would be able to climb back in even if I climbed on first and hauled her up. She wanted something steady underfoot. And since we were already basically headed in that direction, three of the boys clung onto the boat with us while one climbed in and manned the tiller, and we aimed for the rocky shore with the idea that we could get back in and the sail to the bay.

Once we got there, though, it was still too deep under the water to do more than plant our feet; we could get no height, and the shore was too sheer to attempt to climb, plus we didn't want to risk Halcyone bashing into the rocks. One of the boys' father had come down to the shore and made the very good recommendation of dropping the sail so that the boat was not in danger of crushing several of us against the rocks, so Lisa reached up, did some arcane maneuver, and the boom crashed down onto the deck. She from one side and I from the other tugged and pulled and yanked  to get the sail at least partway dropped.

Then the motorboat arrived. Apparently they had seen us go down, but they were also having a trouble of their own with one of the tow-lines tangled in the prop, and so they had to tend to their own plank before dealing with our mote. After a brief conversation, we came to the conclusion that what would be best would be for us to attach one of the spare tow lines to Halcyone and tow her back across the bay into shore. Mister Y threw Lisa a line and she tied it on at the bow, we both clung to a side of the boat, and were told to hang on.

We, along with two tubes collectively holding three kids, got towed toward the bay, and it was all we got do for the first part of that tow to just hold on - our arms were getting really tired, and remember what my intention was when we went down to the waterfront? Remember how I wasn't wearing my bathing suit? Remember how I was wearing a long maxi dress? Yeah. The water drag on that was pretty significant.

In addition, as the motorboat was driving in, Mister Y was slowly pulling in the towrope for Halcyone, so instead of the boat being behind the tubers, it was moving in front of them - and having DG on a tube by herself and suddenly in close quarters to the raised sheet of metal that was the rudder was making me very uncomfortable. I loosened my grip and slid along the portside of the boat until I got to the stern, and was able to grab one of the handles on DG's tube and pull on it while pushing against the stern, to swing her out to the port side a little, away from the rudder. Mister Y continued to pull, and soon the danger was out of reach, Halcyone in front of the tubers and behind the motorboat. Which means that Halcyone was also out of reach, and so instead of just trying to maintain a grip on a boat, I was trying to maintain a grip on a tube handle that had light little DG perched inside it, with all that water drag on me and my broad body and my dress.

This was the worst part of the whole experience for me - not the falling overboard, nor the failing to upright the boat. Not the almost getting smashed on the rocks. Not having to try to maintain a failing grip on a slippery boat with increasingly tired arms. But the thought that my holding onto that tube, with that much water drag, might actually flip the tube and dump DG suddenly into the water, and she wouldn't have been hurt, but she would have been so scared. I very nearly dropped my grip to stop borking the balance of her tube. I almost resolved to simply suck it up and swim for it.

But then the motorboat came to a halt; we were inside the sheltered arm of the jetty once again, and Lisa managed to avoid getting shoved under by the tube tow ropes that were pushing against her once Halcyone was between the motorboat and the tubes. Mister Y pulled Halcyone the rest of the way in, inviting Lisa and I to come aboard to ride the rest of the way in, and so while she slid up the side of the sailboat to the little ladder to get into the boat, I hand-over-handed my way along the rope from DG's tube to get there as well. Mister Y reached down to grab my hand, and hauled me up onto the stern gunwale so I could climb in.

Lisa and I each grabbed a seat, and we sat comfortably until we finally got to shore and were able to climb out, slosh through the shallows, and pull Halcyone onto shore as well. It felt really good to get out of the life jacket, which fit well enough to keep me afloat despite the long dress, but unwell enough that there were several points where it knocked my glasses askew.

Lisa and I spent a bunch of the ride back cracking jokes and laughing, and I scoffed down her many attempts to apologize. After all, I pointed out, I could have had the simple story of I Went Out Boating With Lisa And Learned A Little About How To Sail. Instead, my story is I Went Out To Learn Sailing With Lisa And It Became An ADVENTURE! I also teased her that I had never actually fallen out of a boat before, and shook her hand, thanking her for giving me a new first. XD Also on the ride back, Mister Y asked me if I was ever going to sail again, and I laughed. "Of course!" I told him, "I learned things!"

Once we were on the short, sitting on warm rocks, we started to really feel how tired we were. Our arms felt a thousand pounds each. Muscles began to bemoan their abuse. We started finding the immediately-visible bruises - see the picture. My most epic one is under my upper left arm, and I cannot see it except in mirrors and pictures. It's bigger today than yesterday, when +James Lucas told me it looked like I had been slapped with a cigar.

Lisa and I talked about some of the things that we learned, because it was indeed a learning experience for us both. It was at that point I learned that ideally one of us would have actually climbed atop the daggerboard to push down on it with full weight while pulling back on the upper edge, and that also ideally we would have dropped the sail so that the mast would swing up instead of the entire sail pushing against such a greater surface of the water. But it's hard to explain such things when the boat has just been dumped on what was supposed to be a cruisey little learning sail.

The motorboaters meanwhile went back out onto the lake to reward the children for their patience with a long span of tubing. Yanna teased Lisa and I, asking us if we sang to Halcyone on the way out, and deciding that our lack of singing is clearly why she'd dumped us. Then Yanna got in Halcyone and went for her own little sail around the bay, and showed us up by even going outside and still not turtling. Then Lisa went to chat with AmyBeth's husband, and I went in the water to condition my hair. I had been planning to do it anyway, and while I wasn't wearing a bathing suit I figured that at this point it really didn't matter.

Then I spent a few minutes wandering back and forth on the warm slate rock shore. When I sat down, I was gently vibrating. Everything was sore, and my mind refused to do aught. I had a thousand yard stare. I was on the edge of literally wandering in circles and mumbling before I decided to take a towel, wad it up as a makeshift pillow, and lay on my side on the sunwarm slate in front of James as he read. I must have made some really interesting discomfort noises as I slowly lowered myself though, because after a brief query as to whether I was sore (haha) he started working on massaging me. There was a particularly epicly bad spot on my left shoulder right by my neck, and when he was working on it a sort of hollow pain radiated up into my neck, my ear, my jaw.

There has been a lot of ibuprofen in my world in the last twenty hours, and a lot more massage; both James and Lisa were kind enough to work on me, and I am very grateful to them both.

And through all of that, we lost neither of our hats and precisely zero eyeglasses.

Thus endeth the storytime.

Good Mornthing!

Were there drinks last night? SURE WERE! Did I stay up past 3am(talking +Lisa Cohen's ear off #sorryNotSorry )? SURE DID! Did I wake up at half past 8 with no ability to go back to sleep? OF COURSE! Am I hungover? ABSOLUTELY! Does that dampen my spirits or enjoyment in any way shape or form? FUCK NO!

DaughterGirl is self-wrangling somewheres and SALM is having a well-deserved snooze. I am still riding the high of having it proved out that yes, 1000 Blank White Cards is an intensely awesome game considering how bafflingly unstructured it is at the outset. Everyone really got into it after a round or two, including Yannacakes' mister who normally thrives on structure - getting to create his own structure seemed somewhat exhilarating to him. There was much laughter and good-natured strategy-building.

I have untaped my hand to inspect my ridiculous little archery in jury, and it is not at all terrible. Amazing, how much worse an injury looks when it's bleeding and/or oozy.

The plan for today is...

...
...

.....nonexistent? DG wants to do some archery. She wants to fish. I want to take +James Lucas for a walk to show him where the wild birdhouses grow. At some point +AmyBeth Inverness will arrive on the scene.

Things are good, and I am content.

Good mornthing!
It's Morning Somewhere edition

Dingley Dell is well and fully invaded! Much is the same as I recall, except of course for those things that are different, and being here is, for me, a little bit like coming home. There are certain places in the world that simply feel right for me, and this is one of them.

Last night there was scotch and hugs and comparative scar stories. Today there was accidental alarm-going-off-ness (my bad, sorry +James Lucas ) but there was also rolling-over-and-going-off-to-sleep-ness. And then coffee and bacon and eggs and buttery buttery english muffins, because my Yannacakes is a hostess with an understanding of Maslow's  Hierarchy of Needs and the difference between surviving and thriving.

After breakfast I got to take DaughterGirl over to the side yard and teach her how to use a bow and arrow. It did not take long for her to learn not only how do aim and then draw, but also when she draws to keep her elbow slightly bent so she doesn't beat the hell out of her forearm. We took turns firing arrows at a post from afar, which was a lot of fun right up until I fired the arrow with the one fletching that was half-torn off - and not from the trailing end, but the leading end, and it was the fletching that ran across the crux of my thumb and forefinger. And also the fletching is a rather thick plastic.

So we came inside and DG and Yanna tag-teamed doctoring my hand, and because the gouge is in such a weird spot I have med tape wrapping around my hand and wrist. It looks kinda awesome, TBH.

Meanwhile, a croquet game got set up, which was massively fun and we still have not finished it, but we needed a break for food because there was a bit of hangriness developing among the crowd. Soon, there will  be some boating, and DG is delighted to finally be able to use her fishing rod. I'm excited, because boating. And later, there will either be Cards Against Humanity or I will be indoctrinating the grownups into the joys of 1000 Blank White Cards.

And by the grace of my Wingwomen +Ilyanna Kreske and +Lisa Cohen , the world is safe. So safe. Repeatedly saved.

And will get saved again later for good measure. ;)
