Jo Lane4,052Did you not mark your calendars? Shame, shame. Last year +Scott Cramer dared me to sit under my desk at work and share a picture; I did, he reshared and viral chaos ensued ;P It was so much fun that we decided to make it an annual event, so get under your desk (or kitchen table or coffee table), take a pic and post it on G+ with the ridiculously long hashtag #InternationalTakeAPictureUnderYourDeskDay ! And, mind your noggin. Last year some companies even got their whole office involved; along with kids and pets - sitting under your desk is for everyone ;P It's Friday. Andrij “Andrew” Harasewych355,387It's been a pretty disappointing year for some of us, celestial sights wise. There have been the usual meteor showers (it was cloudy for me every time), the transit of Venus (also cloudy) and several eclipses (none were visible from my area). Luckily, we still have the Geminids left. They're generally considered to be one of the best and most reliable meteor showers of the year, so hopefully we'll get a good show. They will appear to radiate from the constellation of Gemini, and you could spot up to 120 meteors per hour. The moon will be new meaning that visibility should be very good. Although Dec 13th-14th is the peak, meteors will be visible for several days before and after that so don't forget to look up this week. As usual, if you get any good photographs/videos please send them our way!Geminid Meteor Shower2012-12-14 00:00:00162

Good mornthing!

It's a red-letter day here in Blisstopia - it's the first day of school! Guys, I gotta tell you, I am REALLY loving all the kids starting school at the same time, and that time being 9am. If we were all back at the Cove, they'd all be at school by 7:30am.

Yes, that is as terrible a waking-up-and-getting-ready experience as you're imagining.

Instead, at 7:30 the kids had already gotten up on their own and were fully dressed in their First Day Clothes of choice, and Elder Spawn poured bowls of cereal for everybody while I made my morning water. Having a big helper was... well, a big help.

I am kind of flat-footed about a lot of the first day stuff. DG already has a backpack and lunchbox. Younger has a backpack, and I'm giving Elder an old faux-leather backpack. Both lads have a lunchbox my father got them... but really... more »

Good mornthing!

What a hell of a morning it has been! Nobody has jumped out a window, so that's a good thing. I did, however, have to have a talk with DG on the walk to school.

Younger confided to me that yesterday at lunch, when he was making new friends, DG told them something disgusting (his words, act unspecified) that he had done at home, and they got up and moved to a new table. I reminded her that he's new to town and to the school, and he's trying to make friends. I told her I don't know what she was trying to accomplish - just being funny, blocking, whatever - but what she did was drive people away when he was trying to make friends. That was hurtful to him, and a bullying behavior.

Zod, her poor little face was so miserable.

I told her I don't know what she was trying to accomplish - just being funny, blocking, whatever - but what she did was drive people away when he was trying to make friends. That was hurtful to him, and a bullying behavior.

Zod, her poor little face was so miserable.

I told her I am certain she does not want nor intend to be a bully, but she needs to give hi some space to make his own friends. She also needs to let whatever happens at home stay at home, and expect that he will do the same for her - home needs to be a safe space for all of us, and we need to respect each other and not bring all that to school.

She didn't say anything, but walked ahead. A minute later I let Younger know I'd talked to her, and sent him to catch up with her and be kind because "she needs a friend right now."

They were all but hand-in-hand the rest of the way to school.

Elder had a really rough morning. Sometimes he's great with the transition, and sometimes he's talking about jumping out the window. I'm struggling a little with how to deal with his volatile temper. We have the move AND the new school, and... he's ten, so I'm sure that some of this is probably proto-puberty as well.

On top of all that, he has decided he wants to be a vegetarian. Both I and his (vegetarian) Spawnfather have tried to talk him out of it, pointing out that humans are built to be omnivorous, but he is steadfast. So SALM and I are stuck trying to figure out how to make a kid-appropriate vegetarian diet in a household full of omnivores. Tagging +Lindsey Clements in on this, because isn't A-Girl trying out the veggiesaur thing as well? He just wants to cut out meant, but not all animal products, thank goodness, so while he won't eat chicken he will eat eggs. I can't sent any standalone nuts to school, but I am able to send peanut butter sandwiches.

If anybody has any good resources on how to adapt a growing boy's diet to fill in for the nutrients and proteins lost from cutting out meat, please let me know. If he is doing this, I want him to do it as healthily as possible and not become a soda-and-pasta vegetarian.

I am heading out shortly to hit the Cove; today's plan is to dismantle the bunk bed in preparation for moving it. I am definitely packing the toybins and the wire shelves from the boys' room. I will also shove Younger's bureau into the car if I can fit it. While I'm there, I need to measure the car and my bookshelves to see if they'll fit in the back with the seats down. I suspect they might.

I'm also going to ask to borrow my father's stud-finder. The walls here. Are so. WHITE. I need to put up art. I need to figure out how to best hang art that is not framed, but is matted; I have several of these.

I also need to hang the little coathook set I liberated from my parents' house so the kids have a place to put their backpacks when they get home, so they aren't littering the kitchen. Yesterday was a mess in terms of bag-wrangling and homework-doing; all three kids remembered something critical, but not until bedtime. Luckily, DG's thing was an infosheet I'd already pulled from her bag and filled out. Elder's was minimum 20 minutes of reading, which amusingly is not even really like homework at all. Younger's was finding stuff to bring in for a Me In A Nutshell presentation. He already had several things picked out, and we found a book for him to bring to show he likes reading, and a little plastic petri dish from a Disgusting Science set to show he likes science.

Today is Wednesday. One more day of school, and then we have a 4-day weekend.

And for the first time in 4-5 years, I won't be going to Hunter's Moon. ::sniffle::

Good mornthing!

Today I learned that school starts at 8:55, not 9:00. The kids were less than 5 minutes tardy but they all got mad at me.

C'est la vie. I am soothing myself by spoiling myself with breakfast in town. #HeyInternetLookAtMyFood ! I'm at Angel's Cafe, and the good is astoundingly good. I can't figure out everything on their home fries - paprika, rosemary, salt definitely, and a hint of something sweet, but there is something else too, and I can't place what kind of oil they use. It is astonishingly good.

And Turkish coffee so thick that a teaspoon of cinnamon and two packets worth of Sugar In The Raw rest on top until I stir them in? Hell. YES.

Today is going to be a busy-at-home day for me. My major goal is to rearrange the bedroom, put away all my clothes, and make sure the broken window is clear for the landlord to come fix on Saturday. And cleaning arranging sorting it organizing aside from that is a bonus - except maybe for the sink. I swear I washed everything after dinner last night, but I got up and both sides were stocked full. Lolwut? They're breeding. It's the only logical answer.

I would also like to get in the habit of reserving an hour daily of writing time for myself. Who is interested in a daily make-it-if-you-can writing hangout, and what times are good for you?

Maybe a bowl of cold chili and a tall glass of half coffee, half chocolate milk before walking a third of a mile in August heat/humidity to collect the children was not, in fact, the best idea I've had today.

I am kind of flat-footed about a lot of the first day stuff. DG already has a backpack and lunchbox. Younger has a backpack, and I'm giving Elder an old faux-leather backpack. Both lads have a lunchbox my father got them... but really they're coolers. They are WAY TOO BIG and kind of ridiculous. I expect all three kids to come home with a school supplies list this afternoon, and we shall go a-purchasing, and get new, smaller lunchboxen at that time. On the upside, we have two nice Playmate coolers for little family picnics, so that's a cool thing.

I'm so nervous for the boys, and so  excited. DG will be okay - this has been her school for a few years. They know her there and love her there. I'm still trying to get the boys' IEPs sent over from their old school because I was only able to get them registered on Thursday. I will not let this fluster me.

I definitely still work at the old getting-ready speed. They're dressed, fed, pencils sharpened and distributed amongst makeshift pencil cases, lunches compiled and boxed... everyone's ready, and I have time to sit and eat a bowl of cereal, sip my coldbrew, and make a post while giggling at the antics of Tacocat, who decided to photobomb my mornthing selfie.

I could get used to this.

This morning, when I was sweeping up the pencil shavings I accidentally dumped on the kitchen floor in the process of getting pencils sharpened for everyone, DG wandered in and said, "I really like the organizing you've been doing here. You're making everything cozy."

I told her I was glad to hear that, because there are a lot of changes happening for everyone, and I'm doing all the things I'm doing to try and make this a happy, comfortable home for all five of us, and that does mean changing some things from the way she's used to having them. "And new rules," she pointed out. Yes, and new rules.

It's hella interesting, all of us trying to get used to our changed rhythms, the shifts both subtle and not in our respective areas of responsibility, and learning how to be patient and kind with one another. SALM and I both have distinct experience with living with a lack of the sort of patience and kindness we need, and so we have both been working diligently on telling each other what we need help with, and thanking each other for help. Communication is so good. He is so great.

Today, after I walk the kids to school (!!!), I am going to hit the Cove for another trunkload of stuff. I'm thinking probably the childrens' puzzle and board games, my papasan chair for the basement, and whatever else from my room I have the energy to box up and stuff in the back before coming home to retrieve them from school.

It's nearly time to go. My coffee is almost done. I had better find my shoes.

Okay, that was mostly just me. But I got three baskets of laundry folded, another dried and the last in the dryer right now. You can't even see the top of the coffee table I got set up in the living room last night for all the stacks of clothstuff on top of it.

I am REALLY enjoying being able to do chores at my own pace, comfortably intermingled with entertainment. Being a grownup in my own house - who knew it could be this fun?

It's kind of funny, as we go through moving and shifting and organizing and setting up, finding out what we have in abundance and what we inexplicably lack. We have three ladles, but no slotted spoons. We have something like three dozen kitchen towels, but no drying rack and no cutting board. It's bizarre.

But hey, I found my specially special ice mold from Makers Mark that makes ice balls, so that's a thing. :D

Hey. Hey. Hi.

Friendly reminder: If you are in school or entering school in any capacity, I highly recommend latching on to Amazon Student. It's basically Amazon Prime - you get free two-day shipping on a ton of stuff. This is super-handy if you're just now getting your book lists, want it cheaper than the bookstore prices, but need the books to show up ASAP!

You get a free 30-Day trial at the link. If you like it, I'm pretty sure you still get to continue at a discounted price, as I did.

(Spoiler: For everyone who signs up for the Amazon Student free trial, I get $3.)

With impending school scheduling, swimming lessons, SALM possibly taking a class, and three kids making friends, doing playdates, and sundry whatnots, this is rapidly rising in my list of Stuff Needed For The New Place priorities.

What do you guys do to help keep organized among multiple people's schedules and in shared living spaces?

...before I get started on any of that, I think I need to find a regular notebook and write this to-do list out longhand so I don't lose track of all the things. I am pretty sure I have a red one in one of the boxen I'll be bringing in from the car.

I'm getting a good start for the day, at least - I got to sleep in till almost 9, SALM made a delicious breakfast, and there is fresh coldbrew that I started in the fridge yesterday. It's Green Mountain Vanilla Caramel Cream, and now that it's in my mouth I think I prefer it hot with sugar and cream.

The +Flaviar fairies tell me that for every person who signs up through me and places an order, I get a $15 credit - and each person gets a $10 credit for signing up through me. So that's pretty awesome all around, and I'm seriously wondering if enough people might sign up and place orders that I might be able to afford to order a glorious scotch that would be otherwise unattainable to me.

::clings with fierce joy to fountain pens::

Much like the changing physical design of the phone affected its use for calling people, the changing design of the pen has affected handwriting. You may not realize this, but it's significantly harder on the hands to write with a ballpoint pen than with a fountain pen.

I was personally very aware of this when I was a physicist, since most of the work I had to do was writing and working through page after page of equations, which to this day isn't easy to do on a computer. So it was pens and notebooks all the time, and I became extremely particular about which ones I used: a pen which either had too high a resistance or which dried too slowly, or paper that didn't absorb the ink well, and my work would actively suffer.

(Quite seriously: if your hands hurt too soon, you can't write for hours on end. If the ink smudges as you write -- especially if, like me, you're left-handed -- everything is a lost cause. If the paper doesn't absorb the ink and dry enough for you to flip pages in the notebook, you're lost. Any of these things take time, energy, and concentration, and you simply can't vanish into the flow of the science.)

This article isn't about doing science, but about how the ballpoint pen changed handwriting -- but it's through the exact same process. The various methods of cursive weren't popular primarily for their aesthetics; they were practical methods of writing quickly and legibly. As anyone who remembers having to do this in school can attest, that's always been kind of strange, because with modern pens, Palmer-method cursive is much slower and harder: people tend to develop their own semi-script handwriting for when they actually need to write day-to-day. (Except for handwriting enthusiasts who are doing it for fun)

So when you see the lack of handwriting, instead of crying "O tempora! O mores!," realize that what you're seeing isn't simply a move to computers: it's the evolution of the pen itself.

Good mornthing!

Left to its own devices, my hair likes to go schwoomp on the front left side.

There is a busy, exciting day ahead of me! I have showered and applied nice smells to my skin and tasty cereal to my belly. The children are all fed and dressed and getting their shoes on.

First up we have a trip to the dentist, where DG's upper canines are going to get wiggled loose and probably pulled, because her adult canines are super crooked up in the gums and need to be given space to grow into.

After that, we are heading to the Cove to meet my dad, and head out on the boat. DG has never been on a boat before, and she is buttwigglehappypuppypee levels of excited about it.

Then - OH THEN! - we're making The Big Drive across the state to drop the lads with their father, and DG will be my companion back home for dinner with her dad.

...home. I like that.

There's still a lot of stuff to move, and I'll probably try to sneak a few boxen into the car while we're at the Cove today. But things proceed apace, and we're finding organization and rhythms.

And the kids are officially registered for school in their new town, yay!

Successful adulting continues!

In order to move DG's furniture, I needed to move the router, and was getting fed up with trying to make the cable and cord stretch impossibly out the door into the hallway... and then remembered the unused white cable that's curled up behind the two chaise lounges we're using pushed together as a big couch.

I went down to the basement and located where the cable comes down from DG's room, and followed it through the wall into the boiler room. There were several cables connected willy-nilly there, including a white cable. I had Elder tug on the cable in the living room and voila, that was the right one! I did a little switcheroo, connecting the white cable to the live junction point.

I did a little switcheroo, connecting the white cable to the live junction point.

Then I went upstairs, disconnected the router from the bedroom cable and unplugged it and the main phone base from the wall, and brought them to the living room. They fit! Huzzah! But the power cord was so short that it couldn't reach the end table I wanted to set them on. What would you do?

I rearranged the living room.

The lamp is now in the corner, with an end table snuggled next to it, and a chaise lounge backed up to it, so they extend along the walls like an L-couch. The router and phone base are both on the little end table, and the lamp is plugged into a different outlet. The room totally needs a vacuuming, but it'll work.

The one downside to this setup is that the outlet the router and phone are plugged into is switched. I might have to see about replacing the switchplate with a blank faceplate so the outlet just stays on, because if someone shuts it off they're going to kill the wifi and phone.

For now, I'm on the hunt for some shiny duct tape to just tape the switch in the on position. :D___

I'm wondering if her hands smelled like coffee when she was done. I know the artwork did.

Good Mornthing!

Today I am not traveling back to the Cove to pack more, for two reasons.

One is that I need to stick close to the homefront to get the lads registered for school in their new town. And the other? ORGANIZATION.

We are a family of five in a 3-bedroom 1-bathroom 1-kitchen 1-livingroom apartment. The ONLY way we are going to make this learn without killing each other or imploding is by setting up organization, systems, habits. Me getting the kitchen squared away and making sure it's clean and functional every night/morning is one of the first big steps in that direction. I've been doing some other things too.

We have two 5-cube-tall shelving unit things with optional canvas drawers. One is placed in an otherwise junk-catchy corner nook in the kitchen to be bonus shelving, because the cabinets are kinda weird here. The other I have placed... more »

The other I have placed in the front hall which to date has only really functioned as route-to-mailbox and as a coat-hanging and vacuum-storing place. It is just the right length, when laid on its side, to fit against the wall opposite the door. The door still opens sufficiently. We can still access the coat hooks. And there are five canvas drawers, one in each cube space, one assigned to each member of the family, from oldest to youngest. In these drawers we keep our shoes, hats, mittens, scarves, and related outerwear whatnots. Everyone is responsible for getting their things into their bin/drawer when they come home. This way we have no "Mooo-oooom, have you seen my shoo-oooooes?" when we are on our way out the door on a time crunch, there are no sneakers floating around the living room, there are no missing mittens. I am excited about this.

In a similar vein, I am making bins happen in the bathroom. Five people, one bathroom, and one small bathroom/linen closet. Lots of toothbrushes, hairbrushes, washcloths, soap bars, toothpaste tubes, and assorted personal hygiene sundries floating around means it'd be really easy for things to get messy fast. I am not at all interested in refereeing fights about whose toothbrush is which. So today after dropping DG at camp, I went to Job Lot and picked up five clear Sterilite bins, 12x6x2.5. They are stackable, with lids that clip on, and they all had labels on the end. I peeled the labels, wrote each person's name on the sticky side, and stuck them back on from the interior so the names can be read from the outside.

I've not traditionally been a Space For Everything And Everything In Its Space kind of girl... but I do love to organize, and this feels really good. The kids have already fallen readily and happily into the habit of using their shoe bins, which I think is a really good sign.

I may need to go start poking at Pinterest for more organization solutions, because if I'm going to find them anywhere that seems like it'd be the place to look.

Now that the bins are labelled, I need to sort toothbrushen into them, and then start unpacking the box of bathroom stuff I brought here from the Cove yesterday. After that, I have at least two bedrooms to rearrange.

First, I'm going to hit DG's room; I need to take out a desk, chair, and small folding table that were in there while it was her grandmother's room. Then I'll move the bed into the end of the bedroom under the window. When she gets home, she'll be in charge of deciding where to hang her posters, and I'll help her move them in from her old room, and then the ferret cage and her bureau and bookshelves.

Then, I need to hit my/James' room. We're both going to work on making part of the cellar functional and comfortable for us to each have our own work/chill/escape space (crucial for both of us) but we also want the bedroom space to be equitably split and highly functional. I've sorted out that if I put the head of the bed under the front window, I can put his two-by-two black cubes-with-canvas-drawers thing on his side of the bed, and my two one-by-two cubes-with-shelves-and-drawers-and-a-door nightstand pair on my side of the bed. The minifridge (used for grownup beverages) will move against the exterior wall on his side, and the desk currently in the room will move across the room to go against the interior wall, my side. The closet is on his side, but that can't be helped. His bureau is across from the foot of the bed. The door of the room is on my side.

There's also a table-with-drawers that I think is probably going to end up going down to the cellar. There isn't really a functional place for it upstairs right now.

And if I'm not exhausted and cranky later, I'm going to move the two lounge chairs in the living room to make a pseudo L-shaped couch. At some point we're going to replace them to be a real couch, like grownups and families have. Because we're both.

For those of you who missed the infobomb last night... I signed a lease with +James Lucas yesterday. SALM and I are officially living together!

One box each that the lad!Spawns packed themselves. 3 baskets of clothing/laundry in various states of clean.

And I moved my wifi extender and got it set up last night, because #priorities.

As one might imagine, kitchen stuff that has been sitting in boxen in a barn for several years gets kind of dustymustygross, so I spent a bunch of time at the kitchen sink last night. It was a delightful sort of excavation, pulling out all these things that have been waiting quietly for this time to come. There's stuff I forgot I had. I found all my barware! I found my St. Justin's flask! I found a bowl that was a gift from +Kathryn Kelts and +Jason Kelts, with a dragonfly stamped in the bottom, that I absolutely cannot WAIT to show to +Lisa Cohen because of reasons.

That pile of stuff behind me on the counter? I washed all that plus two sets of dishes and mugs yesterday that are not in view because I hand-dried them and put them away already. This pile stands as evidence of how humid it is - over 12 hours and most of it is still wet. >.<

Today is multifaceted:
- I am contacting the school to see what I need to do to get the boys registered. School here starts Monday. #NoPressure
- I am heading back to the Cove to get another carload of stuffandthings
- ...and while I am there I am going out on the boat with the Dad-type Dude to drop lobster traps
- picking up la DaughterGirl from camp, who is either going to be hyped or exhausted from the field trip
- unpacking the carload of stuffandthings
- cleaning out the ferret's ears
- moving DG's bed
- (maybe) moving the ferret's cage

Man. That's not, uh.... much. >.>

Good Mornthing!

I am still at SALM's, doing the Mom-thing for DG since her grandmother is back home. It's been kind of fun wrangling the entire Spawn Collective for several days in a row. A little exhausting and exasperating at times, but fun.

Today it is overcast and hot and humid, and I'm going to try to get my physical labor done early today. In a few minutes, the My Little Pony episode I gave the boys permission to watch will be over, and I will be hustling them into clothes and out to the driveway to help me with the not-insignificant task of cleaning out my car. There's a lot of junk in my trunk (hurrhurr) including but  not limited to an extra copy of my signed thesis, my blue petticoat, and a significant stack of books that I brought back from Balticon and never brought indoors.

Once that's finished, we're heading back to Cardinal Cove for some more physical labor and cleaning whatnots, and maybe to help my dad with some stuff. We shall see. When I was talking to my mom, I learned that they cleared out the pool porch over the weekend, so construction will be starting soon.

I am also a little nervous today about a potential thing that is going to happen later. I'm not going to talk about the thing in specific until after it's over, because of reasons.

I subscribed to the Writing-Prompts-By-Text thing that +Shanna Germain set up, and it's been really rewarding already. Quick little hits that are helping give me new ways to #DoTheWords  .

Congratulations to +noah mclaughlin and +Jennifer McLaughlin on the arrival of Tiny Grandmother into the big wide world! I am a very excited Internet Auntie. Give her smoochies on her wee feet for me please! <3

Good mornthing!

Monday Funday: time for the dentist!

Sadly, not for me. It is our second visit this month for DaughterGirl to get some cavities filled. And because I'm a jerk of a mom, I let her have Lucky Charms for breakfast.

As usual, she is not thrilled with having to have mouth work done.

Afterward, I'm going to take all three kids to run wild in the park, and then go back to SALM's and do some cleaning and organizing and stuff and thing.

And maybe put them in front of a movie and write for a while? Idk.

Good Mornthing!

It is a weekend of exciting developments about which I will probably be posting soon. Not just yet, but soon.

It is a weekend at SALM's! The lads and I came over yesterday, and I have been riding herd on the entire Spawn Collective since just after dinnertime yesterday so SALM could drive his mom back to NJ. It's actually been kind of awesome, and has been a time of learning for all of us.

I learned that Elder Spawn can pick the lock on the bedroom door.
He learned that he is SO VERY NOT ALLOWED TO DO THAT WE LOCK DOORS FOR A REASON.
DaughterGirl learned that she should not unplug things if she doesn't know what they do, because sometimes that thing turns out to be the router and then we have no wifi.

Hah.

Interest check!
+Shanna Germain  wants to know who would be interested in an automated daily virtual punch in the nose motivating you to write by way of a quotation, a little assignment, or a beautiful sentence to inspire you.

Want to write, but sometimes need motivation? I'm thinking about doing a thing where you get a text from me every day that kicks you in the butt to write something.

It's called Do the Words.

(I wrote a blog post a few years ago about Doing the Words, if you want to learn more about the idea: https://shannagermain2.wordpress.com/2013/01/22/do-the-words-on-writing-productivity/ )

Here's how it would work:

You just text the message @dothewords to 81010

It signs you up (it doesn't share your phone number with me or anything).

Every day you'll get a writing punch in the nose. Virtual, of course. It could be anything from a short writing assignment to a motivating quote to a beautifully written sentence.

You can stop getting inspiration any time.

(I also need to give credit here to Kelly-Sue DeConnick, who gave me the idea with her fantastic Bitches Get Shit Done text program. I highly recommend signing up for that if you want a general motivational kick!)

What do you think? If I get some takers, I'll start it tomorrow morning!

Goo mornthing!

It is an occasionally rainy Saturday here in Blisstopia, and between that and my parents being out for errands around the South Shore all morning, I have magnanimously granted the Spawn permission to watch a cartoon called Scary Squirrel on Netflix for a while. I watched a few episodes the other day; it's definitely kid-geared, but it's a lot of fun. I was entertained.

While they are chilling with the electronic babysitter, I am doing some adulting that involves research and contacting strangers - currently through email, but via phone in a few days. Good things had better come of this. I've only had one cup of coffee but my heart is doing that weird palpation thing.

I'm trying a oil perfume combo scent for the first time in.... way too long. I really need to get back to my perfume reviews now that school is done. Today I have Wanda on... more »

Today I have Wanda on my wrists, and September Midnight behind the  corner of my jaw.

I have not yet found out how my jelly did at the Fair, but some friends of my mom's and my aunt's were there yesterday and took a picture in front of my aunt's jelly, and mom saw what look like my jars in the background of the same display section with a ribbon on it. We think. Can't be sure until someone goes to look in person. Luckily, she's going to be there tomorrow with my brother and niece, and has promised to send me a picture.

Today's selfie is at a weird angle to try and show off the neato scarring that has surfaced on my cheek from The Flaming Marshmallow Incident. It doesn't hurt, and the skin feels normal, but there's dark discoloration along my cheekbone. It's awesome.

Good mornthing

Apparently I get bad guy mood lighting today. Okay.

I have lots of things to do and can't seem to bring myself to construct a to do list for today. I'm just not feeling it. I'm having one of those days where I want to ditch everybody and run away into nature and not be responsible for nor beholden to anybody.

Likelyhood of this actually happening: { }

HAH. I have just confirmed that yes, my email/login for the University no longer work. This is problematic, given that I need to be able to log on to eBill to see how much money I still owe. I'm not sure they'll send my diploma until I pay it.

UGH.

I need, like, a bunch of eggs or figurines that I can smash the shit out of. I'm getting pent up in all the wrong ways, and Elder and I are having spats.

I think I'm going to spend the day doing data entry for small change. >.<

My Elder son and I are quite fond of Holes and have watched it twice in the past month; this morning he started to try to sing this and couldn't remember past the first line, so we searched YouTube for a good recording and found this.

Now it's what I sing to him at bedtime. <3

mint jelly

I've never made it before. I've never made any jelly before.

Now taking bets on what ways I will screw this up.

Good Mornthing!

Short post, so here's the highlights:
- my hair is crappy today
- mom is home sick
- the kids are therefore loud and rambunctions
- laundry is my life
- debating running out for Sure-Gel to make mint jelly
- pulling traps with dad later. LOBSTAH!
- dealing with a big disappointment and doing some adulting.

Stuff. Thing.
