Jo Mills3,946Did you not mark your calendars? Shame, shame. Last year +Scott Cramer dared me to sit under my desk at work and share a picture; I did, he reshared and viral chaos ensued ;P It was so much fun that we decided to make it an annual event, so get under your desk (or kitchen table or coffee table), take a pic and post it on G+ with the ridiculously long hashtag #InternationalTakeAPictureUnderYourDeskDay ! And, mind your noggin. Last year some companies even got their whole office involved; along with kids and pets - sitting under your desk is for everyone ;P It's Friday. You aren't really working anyway. Andrij “Andrew” Harasewych468,710It's been a pretty disappointing year for some of us, celestial sights wise. There have been the usual meteor showers (it was cloudy for me every time), the transit of Venus (also cloudy) and several eclipses (none were visible from my area). Luckily, we still have the Geminids left. They're generally considered to be one of the best and most reliable meteor showers of the year, so hopefully we'll get a good show. They will appear to radiate from the constellation of Gemini, and you could spot up to 120 meteors per hour. The moon will be new meaning that visibility should be very good. Although Dec 13th-14th is the peak, meteors will be visible for several days before and after that so don't forget to look up this week. As usual, if you get any good photographs/videos please send them our way!Geminid Meteor Shower2012-12-14 00:00:00160

I couldn't figure out why people were smiling at me funny in the post office. Then I got in the car, took my selfie for the day, and was reminded of what my hat looks like.

Errybuggy is dropped off at all their stuffandthings, and I am on my way back home. Hangout Writing Day with Murphy, woo!

Then later... nothing special, actually. Which is kinda cool. Every day is sorta special, y'know?

I love you.
Happy Valentine's Day.

Random dudes honking in SUVs still gives me the wig. Urgh.

It is a beautifully sunny day in Blisstopian! It is supposed to get up to 70 this afternoon, and I am going to take the kids to a park or something. For now, I have already ventured out to conquer the Milquebeest and have water heating for French press coffee. There are chunks of apple and cheddar for breakfast.

I will wind a warp today.

I will pay a student loan bill today.

Take 2 because my computer is a crapheap and keeps freezing at random

Eldest's bestie (Hereafter, E!Bestie) is going to be here shortly for a playdate, and... holy shit, we got everything done that needed doing. I pressed the lads into service, and their help was actually helpful. Accomplished things:

- Everybody fed
- Me showered
- Coffee made (and started to drink before it went cold)
- Meds/vitamins distributed as appropriate
- Dishwasher emptied (and the mugs all sorted in the cabinet by size and shape, courtesy of Youngest)
- Dishwasher filled from the sink
- Sinkside drying rack emptied
- Remaining pans/dishes in the sink washed and set in rack to dry
- Sink cleaned
- Floor vacuumed (E!Bestie's mom has a cat allergy)
- Bathroom garbage put into kitchen garbage
- Kitchen garbage taken out

The playdate has the possibility to be sort of wonky, because apparently E!Bestie has been talking about Star Wars INCESSANTLY and Eldest has kind of gone off him/is sort of angry about it, but I told him he needs to deal with other people's fannish obsessions just like people deal with his, and focus on LEGO or Minecraft or something, because the kid is just excited, he's not doing anything hurtful.

E!Bestie's mom is apparently bringing over some forms and paperwork and whatnot to sit at the table and deal with, and I'm pretty pleased with that. We've already hit that comfort point wherein we don't feel the need to entertain or be entertained by one another.

I'm probably either going to spend the time writing or bring up my warping mill and get yarn set for the baby blanket I'll be making my sister's impending Little Dude.

...probably the writing. I'll do the yarn stuff later when there's less chance of being randomly interrupted.

I like that I actually had enough energy for morning chores, and feel the mental focus to do the words-putting-into-sentence-doing.

My throat still hurts, but I'm not needing the anti-nausea meds today. SALM, however, has come home from work with the ick. :(

Laundry is laundering, and I have the mental wherewithal to play board games with the lads this morning. In a while I will actually get properly dressed and do a writing hangout with +Murphy Jacobs - one which I will have to cut a little short, unfortunately, due to a 1pm appointment for the Youngest.

Oh my Zod anti-nausea medication is a blessing. Now all I am dealing with is feeling as if I was beaten with rods, exhaustion, and the angriest of scratchy throats.

Upside of this illness: I successfully baked a potato last night. I've always been so sure I couldn't do it so I never tried. I followed an Alton Brown recipe, which basically calls for rubbing the potato with olive oil and lightly salting it. This is awesome, because I am one of those people who immediately eviscerates a potato and then butter-mashed the tater-viscera and also the inside of the skin. The skin was buttery and salty and crisp and I ate the entire potato.

These are this week's big triumphs. Stopped vomiting. Ate a potato.

Today I drop one kiddo off at a day program. The other kiddo is still in bed, because no school and therefore he stayed up late, I suspect, reading.

When he does get up I need to examine the state of his hair, because when I got up this morning there were several clumps of freshly snipped hair in the bathroom garbage. Hair clumps stuck to a wad of gum.

Clearly there is a story here, and today is apparently going to involve a surprise haircut.

Meanwhile I am trying to decide if I hate more the hot flashes or the sudden chills.

The day includes cat litter, dishes, and a battle versus mold, which I think pretty well explains the dunwannas.

Scientists Are About to Switch on a Telescope That Could Photograph a Black Hole's Event Horizon
Called the Event Horizon Telescope, the new device is made up of a network of radio receivers located across the planet, including at the South Pole, in the US, Chile, and the French alps.

The network will be switched on between 5 and 14 April this year, and the results will put Einstein's theory of general relativity through its paces like never before.

The Event Horizon Telescope works using a technique known as very-long-baseline interferometry (VLBI), which means the network of receivers will focus in on radio waves emitted by a particular object in space at one time.

For the black hole, they'll be focusing on radio waves with a wavelength of 1.3 mm (230 GHz), which gives them the best chance of piercing through any clouds of gas and dust blocking the black hole.

And because there are so many of these antennae all tuned in on a single spot, the resolution of the telescope should be 50 microarcseconds. To put that into perspective, it's the equivalent of being able to see a grapefruit on the surface of the Moon

That's important, because the first target will be the huge black hole at the centre of our galaxy, called Sagittarius A*, which is actually only the size of a pinprick in our night sky.

We've never directly observed Sagittarius A*, but researchers know it exists because of the way it influences the orbit of nearby stars.

Based on the behavior of these stars, researchers predict that the black hole is likely about 4 million times more massive than our Sun, but with an event horizon diameter of just 20 million km (12.4 million miles) or so across.

At a distance of around 26,000 light-years away from Earth, that makes it a pretty small target.

But the Event Horizon Telescope will aim to observe the immediate environment around the black hole, and it should be able to get enough resolution to see the black hole itself.

I'm going to try finishing up my letter-writing today, and then perhaps start on the canvas panel I have sitting here by my desk. I'm going to do a Nevertheless, she persisted. on it. I need to decide on colors, and whether to paint the background or have it just be the Gallifreyan on canvas.

Everything's a-kilter!

The schedule, which had found a new usual, has shifted yet again under me, and I am standing with my knees bent and my arms out, letting my feet rise and fall with its movements like finding sea legs in the non-tangible concept of time and the equally non-tangible boundaries of deadlines and assignments that we apply to it.

Today is for writing letters in return to letters I have received, and for watching over a kiddo. It might also be for laundry, or for recording, but not both.

No, not both.

I spent some time being void and hollow last night. Then we saved the world, and I dreamed of pools and industrial dryers and mysterious government flunkies and chain link fences and the freedom on the back of a horse. I have five letters to respond to. I will try to write at least one response before my writing hangout. See the bonus picture for the mailing address if you care to correspond.

As I went through snapping pics, I realized I haven't written any new words on Inner Workings' sequel this month. I need to fix that.

I need to record things.

I need to digitize the "nevertheless she persisted" and "resist" CG to go on Redbubble.

I need to catch up on recordings.

And somehow I need to do all this while adhering to the new 2-hour/day maximum screen time being imposed on the kids and therefore on myself as well. 2 hours that they see, anyway. But with a change that has happened the amount of free time I have mid-day has now shrunk to...3 hours, if I don't take an eating break?

I need to figure my shit out.

I need to write some letters.

It tickles me to no end that, on the show Haven, the dude playing Dwight is listed in the credits as "WWE Superstar Edge."

While we're at it, I love that the show has a Co-Executive Producer named "Speed Weed."

Ugh, I'm all gross up inside my face mask. This sinus thing is worsening instead of getting better. Luckily, SALM is awesome and threw most of our leftover chicken into the crock pot yesterday with a bunch of water, so now we have a ton of chicken broth. I had a bowlful with garlic powder, ginger powder, thyme, and basil.

I have also broken out my cast iron enamel-interior teapot and have a nice hot-all-day pot of tea brewed up.

The snow has started (returned?) here. It's apparently already pretty nasty out in Western MA, and I granted the Spawnfather leave to keep Eldest for a bonus overnight in the name of safety.

I am... spacey? I was standing in the kitchen with SALM and, while trying to think of grocery things, went on pause and just stared at a spot. I also lost my balance after a hug. I am sitting down. Later there will be a hot... more »

Trying to figure out how much I am able to brain today. Want to write, but it may be gibberish.

Want to sketch Circular Gallifreyan. Suggest me things, please.

Despite everything, a day starts with saving the world and delicious breakfast is not all bad.

It has snowed again, which makes me cranky; I had not prepared for it in terms of car placement, which means I am going to have to do more shoveling out than I want to.

I am also cranky for other reasons which I am not currently interested in discussing.

I am also getting back to doing Circular Gallifreyan projects. I'm going to do a few painted acrylics. If anybody is interested in making suggestions as to phrases or colors, I'm open to that, because I'm going to be selling more of my handmade art in addition to the stuff on Redbubble.

I'm tired of struggling.

I do not like that I had to come out this morning, but I did so I did. The worst parts, TBH, were my driveway (dirt driveway, uneven slope, slanted down away from the street) and the drive through at +Dunkin' Donuts .

Two of the kids are home because school is cancelled in our town, but the third kid's stuff is in a different town that apparently never closes, hence the out. I am telling myself that at least it means my car is spending the brightest part of the day parked in a sunny lot, and what I could not reach with the scraper will, perhaps, melt off.

It's a day for sitting and knitting. And maybe reading.

And then, later, driving. Because it is a dad weekend for Eldest.

If I'm looking a little scraggly, it is because I had to go out in the snow to move my car to make room for the plow to have a puddit spot. And maybe because the world is partly saved.

Snow Day Breakfast is getting made! Bacon, tater tots, coffee, and probably some kind of omelet that will include bacon, buts of leftover meatballs, and spicy cheese.

Plans today... knitting, sex, snowmen, bread baking, occasional shoveling of the porch and steps. At some point, kick the kids out of the living room and start watching The OA.

Maybe write?

Wow. No wonder that dude in the 7/11 was looking at me funny.

Today's morning routine was even more borked than yesterday due to the middle school having a scheduled late start. Got it done, but got hangry in the process.

Remembered to eat breakfast today, which beats yesterday, and I packed enough snacks that I don't have to eat the shitty cafeteria food if I don't want to.

Am not looking forward to the hours in the waiting room. My hips hurt from yesterday.

I have a book and knitting. Just for funnies, suggest me things to doodle. Not even left-hand doodles!

Stuff is happening and today is weird; it involves stuff I dunwanna talk about public, so... vaguebooking? In brief, there is a thing happening with someone that is disrupting expectations and schedules throughout the household, but the changes will ultimately, we hope, result in good outcomes.

In lieu of proper explanation I offer you a picture of some yarn I was attempting to turn from a skein into a ball, and now it is a ruddy mess. Consider this a visual.... allegory? Am I using that word right?

Anyway, I am dealing with some stress. I also have what is either a pulled muscle or a pinched nerve in my upper back, halfway between my right shoulderblade and clavicle. I don't think it matters at this moment which it is, just that it hurts.

Just got a call from Staffing Agency Lady wanting to set me up with an interview.

...at the place where I already interviewed.

The fact that they are still interviewing tells me that my interview was probably a bust, and the fact that somehow she didn't realize that I interviewed there even though she set my interview up doesn't exactly overwhelm me with confidence.

Back to emailing my resume into the void, I suppose.

Natural light is awesome. You can see all the dit-dits and blurfs. I totally have my dad's eyebrows.

SALM and I totally neglected to go to the grocery store last night, which has me scrambling a little getting school snacks together. I managed to find baby carrots and vanilla wafers, and wrapped them in aluminum foil since we are out of sammich baggies. Makin' it work.

I have a post to make for my Patreon folks of afterthoughts and opinions on yesterday's Drunkblog. If you want to be in on things like that, as well as helping pick movies, support the campaign for Blisstopian shenanigans at http://www.patreon.com/Drunkblog

I have ends to weave in on a scarf.

I have yarn to measure out for the next project warp.

And I need to meditate on the state of my fingernails, two of which I bit down to the quick while watching the mockingjay stuff. It was stressful. I used to have my nails like this all the time; it was a big struggle when I was a kid. ___
