Jo Lane4,012Did you not mark your calendars? Shame, shame. Last year +Scott Cramer dared me to sit under my desk at work and share a picture; I did, he reshared and viral chaos ensued ;P It was so much fun that we decided to make it an annual event, so get under your desk (or kitchen table or coffee table), take a pic and post it on G+ with the ridiculously long hashtag #InternationalTakeAPictureUnderYourDeskDay ! And, mind your noggin. Last year some companies even got their whole office involved; along with kids and pets - sitting under your desk is for everyone ;P It's Friday. You aren't really working anyway. Andrij “Andrew” Harasewych413,054It's been a pretty disappointing year for some of us, celestial sights wise. There have been the usual meteor showers (it was cloudy for me every time), the transit of Venus (also cloudy) and several eclipses (none were visible from my area). Luckily, we still have the Geminids left. They're generally considered to be one of the best and most reliable meteor showers of the year, so hopefully we'll get a good show. They will appear to radiate from the constellation of Gemini, and you could spot up to 120 meteors per hour. The moon will be new meaning that visibility should be very good. Although Dec 13th-14th is the peak, meteors will be visible for several days before and after that so don't forget to look up this week. As usual, if you get any good photographs/videos please send them our way!Geminid Meteor Shower2012-12-14 00:00:00161

Good mornthing!

Ugh, wanna sleeeeeeep. Being responsible parent, though. Kids are up and largely ready for enschoolenation, and I have even put clothing on myself. Not a bra, though, because the underwire in my last good bra snapped yesterday and tried to impale me through the bottom of my tit.

I was displeased, to say the least.

Today is Friday. I'm going to finish setting up my bullet journal this morning, which is going to involve doodling in Gallifreyan and looking at colorful things on Pinterest. I'm also going to shuffle some laundry, work a little more on setting up my new Dungeon space, and pack a bag for Elder for this weekend.

I am also also going to try to get in touch with Mister Doctor Professor; I called him last night to no avail, and left a message on his machine. I think we need to set a specific time for a call instead of the... more »

  NEWS!

Nanotime Photography is on its way out.

Does that mean I'm done with photography?

HELL NO!

It means that I have even more amazing things in mind, that I'm changing the focus so I can do even more interesting work, and I'm moving out the old to make room for the new.

To that end, everything, EVERYTHING in my Etsy store is reduced in price. I'd rather this work find happy homes that are not my home. For the next few weeks I'll be adding items you may not have seen and matted prints from my show stock. You may even find my Limited Edition foamcore prints there.

For now, the inventory is freshened up! Go have a look, if you will, and spread the word, if you like. Every little bit helps!

Good mornthing!
Adventure is out there!

It is the 100th day of school for the Spawn Collective, and it is being celebrated with a Crazy Hat Day. I am not in school but have opted to join the children in the wearing of fabulous chapeaux.

Today is a day of adventuring for me; I am first going to visit the taxman to sign some things, and then heading down to Cardinal Cove because dad has managed to click the wrong options during a java update and installed extraneous toolbars and search "helpers" yet again. Tonight I get to haul tuchus across the state and back. I haven't checked the weather yet but am really hoping for clear skies.

...that is pretty much the planned part of my day, really. We will see what the Universe throws at me, yah?

Good mornthing!

Everyone miraculously got up and ready quickly today, and I am left with time to kill before we head out. Eldest and Middlest are face-deep in screens, while Youngest has been carefully tracing and cutting out triangles of red glittery paper for Valentine's Day cards for his class. His big idea involves a black cat stamped on a glittery red roof pasted onto a background piece of paper. Middlest's cards are purple and white origami boxen with stickin glittery hearts inside.

Eldest feels like he has no friends, and since his teacher decreed that they bring cards for everybody or nobody, he is opting out of cards this year. :-/

My BuJo is already set up the day, and is very basic. I'm good to just enschoolenate, hit the post, and do journal edits until my Hangout writing group meets.

Must figure out dinner. Later.

Good mornthing!

Wednesdaaaa- wait, is it Thursday? No, it is, it's Wednesday. These snow days are screwing with my braining.

The children are enschoolenated, with only a minor attitude-fling from each one; Middlest's was predicated on pissyness over Eldest, the last one to the breakfast table, being given some of my pop tarts. Even though they are mine. Even though she'd been saying she wasn't even hungry, and getting her to eat anything was almost tooth-pully. Even though, not two minutes before, she stopped eating what she'd served herself because she was full.

She literally growl-stomped off to the living room. I ended up having to point out to her, before we left for school that yes, he got something she didn't - and that their other brother also didn't. And sometimes that is going to happen, just like sometimes she is going to get... more »

She literally growl-stomped off to the living room. I ended up having to point out to her, before we left for school that yes, he got something she didn't - and that their other brother also didn't. And sometimes that is going to happen, just like sometimes she is going to get things THEY aren't. I pulled out the timely example that her grandmother is giving her money for her best grades, something the boys aren't getting. Then I went on with the spiel on how, frankly the world is unfair. She will get things other people don't. Other people will get things she doesn't, and often not for any real reason. It isn't fair, but it is something that we all need to learn to cope with.

Weirdly, the bad mood cleared right up from that.

At some point, I will get all of them pop tarts.

Anyway, they're all doing the learning thing, and SALM is home on a sick day, resting up. I hit the grocery store to pick up sammich breads and milk, and things for crock pot beef stew (which I will be prepping as soon as I finish typing), and corned beef hash, because I had a hankering.

Today is editing day, because I need to give Mister Doctor Professor an update soon, and I am behind because of the friggin snow days.

Sam Neill is a solid B-student in terms of acting performance. Discuss.

Good mornthing!

Face is what it is because the package of sugar snap peas I picked up this morning to have with my breakfast says "Microwave in this bag!" and the microwaving of sugar snap peas is so far outside my ken. Then are snap peas! They are meant to be snapped and nommed and crunched, not steamed up and made flobby!

The weather-driven long weekend is over! The Spawn are back in school! I get to do writing with +Murphy Jacobs and +Lindsey Clements today woohoo! Which means I should prolly finish up breakfast soon and get myself situated. Coffee or no coffee?

Silly question that. ::puts kettle on::

Good mornthing!

Poor SALM. He was up till midnight getting his homework done, then wide awake before 5am. He got almost all the way to work before he got the notice that they are closed due too snow.

Then, saint in human clothing that he is, he swung by the grocery store, came home, and cooked breakfast for everyone.

I am now on parenting-duty while he catches up on his sleep. I'm opting to do my duty in the living room with the Collective, 2/3s of whom are playing Minecraft and 1/3 of whom is playing on Roblox. It continues to amuse me that Middlest has decided that since my chair and ottoman occupy the patch of floor where she used to stretch out with her computer, she has free reign to claim the ottoman as her space.

This means that I am tucked sideways into my chair, and she is leaning back against my knee. I like dis.

Later I may hit the Dungeon for a writing Hangout - let me know if you're interested in that.

Good Mornthing!

It's a quiet Sunday in Blisstopia, or at least as quiet as I can manage to keep three children with a fun video game while their dad is trying to sleep.

Today's plan is very much an out-and-about one; SALM has a response paper due for school at 3pm, so I am going to take the Collective over to Cardinal Cove for sledding and snowman-makery and visiting with my parents. I will probably get to do some geek-work for my mom while we're there - there's always something for my Special Set Of Skills to take care of. We will have hot soup and maybe watch that live feed documentary of the Superb Owl I hear is happening this afternoon.

Sometimes supportive co-parenting means taking the kids and going away. nodnod

Good mornthing!

I have coffee with  mocha cappuchino Bathhouse Farms stuff in it, and fres croissants, and double-cream brie.

I have my BuJo by my elbow to set up while SALM brings Middlest to her dentist appointment.

I have the lads playing Minecraft quietly together.

I have two errands to do today (Home Despot and the Post Orifice), and a bunch of editing.

I have this weird feeling of being all stuffed with cottonwool. Not sick, just... cuddle-squishy all through my insides. But not squishy like the human body is squishy. A dry squish, not a meatsquish.

I parked, and got out of my car to watch the guys plow - it was easier to do it outside the car than in, given the rapid accumulation. I thought about grabbing my scraper from the trunk, but figured I'd wait until they were done and gone, so I stood by my front bumper.

I wasn't out of the car ten seconds when I heard a CRACK and a big KA-THUNK right behind me. I turned around to see a branch had snapped and fallen, partly on my car, mostly in the driveway.

Man, am I glad, and lucky, that I didn't go for the scraper; I would have probably gotten clobbered!

Anyway, the car is clean and moved back to my side of the driveway, the branch is chucked down into the gully, and the children have been forbidden to go tromping through the woods to the sledding hill until tomorrow, by which time wind, weight, and hopefully warmer temps will have rid the branches of the worst of their burden.

Stay safe, folks!___

Good mornthing!

Ehrmahgerd! SNEHR!

I gotta be honest, when Middlest mentioned yesterday that it was supposed to snow today, I didn't really believe her. I haven't been watching the weather lately, and frankly it was over 50 degrees out. Snow? Hah!

Then we got the phone call from the school last night saying that, due to the likelihood of dangerous driving conditions by the time school lets out, there would be no Friday school in town.

Soooo.... long weekend! The kids roused themselves and were mostly good about not making noise or waking me, until Elder came in around 9 to ask permission to use my computer. We snuggled for a little while so I could catch up on Life At School. We snuggled for a little while so I could catch up on Life At School. Apparently the kid who was his best friend who was then his worst enemy because he pushed Eldest down is now kind of his friend, but the boy is doing things pissing other people off too. I also asked about his crush, and his face fell and he demurred. I told him he didn't have to tell me anything if he doesn't want to, but I'm here if he wants to talk.

I am going to cook up some bacon and make cornbread, and once the children are fed and entertained I will be vanishing into the basement to do some editing work, because I can't focus on phenomenology when there are so many dings and bleeps and bloops (that don't even match each other) in the room. Middlest has and uses her headphones - I need to get some for the other kids!

First things first: Coffee, and BuJo, and write a letter for MoLeCha a.k.a. LetterMo a.k.a. Month of Letters Challenge. If you're interested in getting a letter or random doodle or something from me this month, drop your address in this form for me: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1VzpV6X-QWsNWcGhUrbEC8G57SfeQDHumy4tT5DEFASA/viewform
Alternatively, you can write me something first, and I'll write back:

Good mornthing!

Time is flying today, WTF. I haven't even set up my BuJo, let alone written up a #MoLeCha  letter to send out yet.

Do you want me to mail you something as part of the Month of Letters? Need your address. Drop it in the form here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1VzpV6X-QWsNWcGhUrbEC8G57SfeQDHumy4tT5DEFASA/viewform

I can't find my good pen. This will not prevent me from writing excellent things in Hangout Writing Group today. I'll just use a different good pen, I suppose.

Have you gotten Malus Domestica yet? Geddit! For under a buck! http://amzn.to/1PUsCRT

Fangirl LiveBlog: Malus Domestica

I'm embarrassed to say how long I've had this in my possession and haven't yet read it, so I won't tell you... but I am reading it today. Expect the comments on this post to be filled with quotes, flails, and note that if you intent to tag in, there's the high likelihood that #HereThereBeSpoilers  although largely I try to avoid them.

Tagging in +Lindsey Clements and +Amanda Rachelle Warren and +Karen Conlin because of fellow fangirling, and +Jacinda Mckinley because literature, and +S. A. Hunt. Because he wrote it.

If you decide you want to have it, you can pick it up here: http://amzn.to/1moaQiu (I do recommend clicking through if nothing else but for to see the cover in its full-color glory; the B&W Kobo screen doesn't do it justice.)___Remember hen I liveblogged my reading of +S. My favorite part of “The Boys Are Back In Town” is the line “won’t be long till summer comes, now that the boys are here again” because it implies that summer wouldn’t come were it not for the boys coming back to town.

It’s the morning air that signals to us first. We wake, we perform our morning ablutions, we eat, and we exit our homes. We open the door, and the air rushes inward, the pressure outdoors changed since we closed it last night. It was cooler, then, crisp on the skin. Closing the door was a relief, snipping off the creeping chill that sent tendrils through the flesh to twine around the bone. Now it splashes upon the face to trickle down under the collar, moist and warm, relaxing the fingers that gripped tight on the edge of the coat only the day before.

The sun is different as our feet find the sidewalk. No longer the thin and watery light filtered down to the pale gleam of an insufficient bulb, it pours into the eyes like honey lemon tea, thick and sweet, warming the moist earth to coax forth even the most reticent thin seedlings. It slides across the petals of previously burgeoning buds now burst into broad, bold bloom.

We need not see their forms striding, laughing and strong, across the loam; we know they are here, as we leave coats behind and shake loose lighter garments from their attic dust.An ancient knowledge colors the ends of our nerves and the backs of our minds with the bright glory of their limbs, the fullness of the air expelled from their lungs to seep into every crevice of our shared home. Long golden days rise before us, head with the gift of earth’s bounty in full flower as befits the ancient pact.

Summer comes; the boys are here again.

The boys are back in town.

So, in a little town in Nowheresville, USA, there’s a river that’s about to flood, and needs to be quickly dammed.

The local college sends three professors: a structural engineer, a chemical engineer, and a literary critic.

The structural engineer suggests building a concrete dam to stem the river, and the mayor calls in a construction company to do the job. A week later, the dam is completed, but in a few days the river’s current becomes more intense, and the dam crumbles.

Next, the chemical engineer suggests adding a gelatin solution to the river, to solidify the whole thing. But a few days later, the current of the river becomes even stronger, and the water pressure at the source starts to break the gelatin apart

Then, out of nowhere, an awful thunderstorm appears over the town. the heavy rain starts to make the river flood.

In a last ditch attempt, the literary critic steps up to the river bank

He coughs softly, purses his lips, takes a momentary glance at his fingernails, and says “I suppose this river is… adequate.”

...and suddenly the flooding stops.

The two other professors rush to the critic’s side and ask “How the hell did you stop the river from flooding?”

And the critic replies, “Simple. I dammed it with faint praise.”

Blissmas

A Blissmas present came into my box today! This one has bonus kittens being all with the cute on the card, and that is definitely going to get put up somewhere because KITTIES!

The actual Blissmas gift is a gorgeous black-and-white photo of what I believe is either driftwood or fossilized wood on top of stones, in front of a newspaper page dating back to April of 1977 with an amusingly apt headline about looks back at times past. Heeheehee.

As an added bonus, it came with command frame-hanging strips. Sweet!

Thank you muchly, +Rose Bissinger - I'm looking around now to decide which wall this gets to go on. I'm leaning toward the hallway, but it's also just the right size to cover one of the previous tenants' (or the landlord's) bad plaster-patching jobs in the living room... XD

Good Mornthing!

Hump daaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! Doodle a camel. :D

Enschoolenation, while slightly wonky, was nonetheless a success, and I got home just as the chilly rain started to sprinkle. It's supposed to be chilly and raining for the next few days, which kind of puts the kibosh on my plan of taking the Collective to the park again. We went yesterday, and Eldest played a pickup game of 2-on-2 in the basketball court, Middlest ran the path that circumnavigates the place twice (probably ended up being a mile, total) and Youngest ran a little and then got a walking stick and started collecting bits of nature including a pinecone with almost all the bits flaked off except at the very tip, so it looked kind of like a skinny, stylized fishie.

They all embedded well last night.

I hit the post this morning and totally forgot to bring my Day 1 and 2 #MonthOfLettersChallenge  ( #MoLeCha  ) letters with me to mail, so I'll have to do them this afternoon along with #3.

Today's plan is super simple: post the mail call for what was in my box this morning, shower, write the Day 3 Letter, and edit articles in my comfy chair. If anybuggy wants to do a companionable hangout with writing or editing of your own while I'm doing letter-writing and edits, let me know.

Good mornthing!

Youngest got himself up and dressed before I was up today, and got to experience the joy of having bonus game time before school. It was pretty great! Hopefully he'll get himself up again tomorrow.

I went on a mission to Home Despot and found feet the right height for my ottoman. Then I got them home, and discovered the screws aren't long enough to actually reach the screwing part of the ottoman. Grahr.

I have a writing date with +Murphy Jacobs in an hour, and today I actually had the presence of mind to make myself breakfast BEFORE we sit down to get started. WOO! I still have to set up my BuJo list for today, half of which is already going to get checked off which is pretty great TBH.

Good mornthing!

It's Monday! The weather is all kinda of decent for the first of February, so if Eldest wants to bike to school I am all for it.

The lads kept each other up way too late last night, and Youngest in particular has a strong touch of the tired-crank this morning. It has been somewhat ameliorated by my promise that, if he finishes getting ready in a timely manner, I will gel his hair and give him the Tin-tin shwoop in front.

To do today:
- begin daily rapid-logging in the bullet journal
- change kitchen calendar to February
- find out when Miss B is coming to visit and plan accordingly
- work on journal article edits for Mister Doctor Professor
- writing: WWI romance post to RPG
- writing: spend at least one half hour on a solo project - either writing to a prompt, or continuing/expanding a prompt from last week

Good mornthing!

Drank too much wine, stayed up too late, house was too hot, dreams were too weird. Nonetheless, today is pretty decent. Youngest and M!Bestie are Minecracking, and Middlest is all about the Roblox. SALM, having enfoodenated us all, is taking a nap. I have emailed the title of my thesis to Mr. Doctor Professor to put on Mrs. Dr. Professor's CV.

What to do, today... I can't really do much more on setting up the Bullet Journal, except sketch the shelves and blank book spines on the Books to Read spread. Should I read today? Should I write?

Does anybody wanna do a hangout with writing sprints?

I am fed and curled up in my throne. I have a cup of cabernet, and Grey's Anatomy, and a belly full of tasty dinner. I have three kids (Youngest Middlest, and M!Bestie) filling the living room with cushions and pillows and blankets, and they are taking turns putting each other in a big rubbermaid bin and rocking each other and shooting each other into space (dumping each other off the bin from on top of the new ottoman into the slate-topped coffee table). I have my new bullet journal close at hand, and my pen to continue the task of numbering the pages. I might read. Hell, maybe I'll write something.

It's not the kind of Saturday night they write pop songs about, but damn if it isn't kind of awesome.

Good mornthing!

I turned into a pumpkin at midnight. At some point this morning after dawn but before the sky was really well lit, Youngest came galloping into my room to tell me excitedly that he found "a random chicken in the Nether, mom!"

This morning has been marvelously lazy since then. I went back to sleep, then made pop tarts and coffee happen and ran a Parkour Race in Minecraft with the lad. It went up and down and involved vines and ladders and lily pads and leaping from roof to roof and at one point across a cloud. Good times.

Today is a day for haircuts and furniture movery! There is a big cushy red armchair taking up space in my parents' cottage that I have determined will fit pretty much perfectly in the corner of my living room, under the window that is incredibly well lit in the morning and therefore perfect for curling up with a book or a... more »

I think we need to set a specific time for a call instead of the... more »

I might also sit down and do some flash writing, as my time this week doing so with +Murphy Jacobs has been inspiring. If anybody wants a hangout to throw prompts at each other and write on them for 20 minutes at a time, let me know.

Tonight, I drive Eldest to his dad's. Youngest and Middlest will stay home with SALM. Youngest's behavior at large seems to have improved in a big way since cutting down his visits. I wonder how much is the reduced visitation, and how much is the relief of being listened to.

Anyway, the world is safe.

Someone linked me to this yesterday and I'm kind of in love with it. Not necessarily the colors, but the idea.

Good Mornthing!
MAIL CALL edition

Today is Thursday! I never could get the hang of Thursdays. #NameThatQuote

This morning was a weird enschoolenation. I got Elder Spawn up early as per his request, but then he decided to misremember what I'd told him he could do on screens (PS3 Minecraft in the morning, Build Battles on Hypixel.net after his homework is done) and got all pissy with me. When I got back up twenty minutes later, Youngest was wide awake and snuggled with him on the couch, watching him play and doing LEGO (He's got a spaceship constantly under construction, repair, and improvement). Middlest was in a quiet and sort of sour mood for a good chunk of the morning as well. Ultimately, I got them all fed and dressed and dropped off at school in good spirits, but my routine was off enough that I'm snatching for fresh mental handholds.

I hit the Post on the way home, and - MAIL! I have a long toooooob from [name redacted until I am sure zie is okay with being named as having sent something] and I am zehr excite. #Blissmas  present! I also got to chitchat with the PO dudes - usually it's the ladies behind the counter. The younger dude reminded me of Mister J, and the older dude was a hoot. I asked how he was, and he said, "Just ducky. No wait, it's not raining! I'm doing fine." He's only 'ducky' when it rains. Heeheehee.

Anyhoo, what's in this tooooooob...

Ahhhhhhh! MS. Marvel!

AHHHHHH, A HUGE MAP! A 2' x 2.5' USGS topographical map of where zie lives! ::restrains self from both squish-hugging it and from peeing a little::

Now I have to decide if I want to leave it nekkid or get some colored pencils and shade in the topographical contours. :D

Anyway, STUFF! THING! I have a busy little day today:

- Recording for +Nobilis Reed - I could not get a proper recording done yesterday due to background noise, so today I am resorting to going down to the cellar to the section we set up for Youngest's drumming, which is fortified with a bunch of old mattresses. It'll be chilly, but I think I'll be able to manage a satisfactory recording.
- Writing with +Murphy Jacobs - I actually remembered this time! I've got our twice-a-week writing prompts hangout at 11amEST.
- Lunch - normally this would not be an item on its own, but SALM brought home an amazeballs chunk of beef for me last night and I don't want to forget to actually cook and eat it.
- Solo parenting - SALM's classes this semester are Tuesdays and Thursdays; he gets home not long before bedtime, so for all intents and purposes I am Lone Man On Deck in terms of parenting on these days. Here's hoping things go well enough at school that everybuggy comes home in a good mood.
- Bullet Journal - I've been checking out bullet journals lately because of Pinterest ( #DamnYouPinterest ! ::fistshake::) and Tumblr, and it looks like it could be really handy - a meatspace way to combine my addiction to notebookery with my digital what-to-do-today-and-soon braindumpery in the mornthing posts. I probably won't have time to set it up tonight, but I at least want to locate the one I have that I plan to use. It'll be handy, because I have quite a lot of things to stay on top of, including
- Mister Doctor Professor - he finally called yesterday... when I wasn't available to take the call. >.< He emailed me in the middle of the night, though, and I'm going to call him back tonight so we can discuss; the TL;DR version of the message, though, is that the edited papers I sent him look great, and he wants me to do the rest of them. I am very pleased to hear this, because the rear tires on my car are very, very sad, and I can't bank my safety on the possibility of not getting much snow. Because hi, New England.

::eyes clock::

If I want to fit the recording in before the writing, I better go get started. If anybuggy wants to contribute something to the decorating of my apartment walls for #Blissmas , the third picture has the mailing address! All sorts of things are acceptable/interesting to me - landscapes with personal significance, maps (both real and of fictional places), post-it doodles, arty art art, fantasy, avant garde, abstract, something you thought was awesome on DeviantArt and printed out, calligraphy.... allllll the thiiiiiiiings! Make your mark in Blisstopia. <3
