Haven't had much time to play lately (or the energy to do much of anything, since I've been sick for, uh, 3 weeks? haha. oy...), but my OW obsession is definitely kicking into high gear lately. One of the very few games that I keep jumping back to after getting distracted with something else. Mostly recently that was Horizon: Zero Dawn, but now that I've completed that (at least until DLC comes out or whatever), it's back to Overwatch in a big way.

Who plays that I don't already have on my battlenet list? I'm ThatOneGuy#12667 on there. Add me or whatever!

Weirdly super hyped, even though it means being a LOT more social than I'm used to. Who else is going to this thing? Should be a good time!

Re-reading one of my favourite hacker related books to distract myself from being annoyed that Watch_Dogs 2 doesn't hit PC for another 2 weeks.

I first read The Heretic at the time in my life I was at peak "loner computer nerd", so I'm sure that biased me towards it quite a bit, and the writing is definitely kinda sloppy/cheesy in a lot of ways, but it still somehow makes it work and holds a high spot in my list of fav books. I think I've read it 6 or 7 times now (it's not super long), and each time it brings me back to a time in my life where really the only connection to people I had was through a computer screen.

I have a lot of mixed feelings about that time, but I made a lot of friendships that really moulded my adult life, some of which are still going, but many that have since dissipated for various reasons (not the least of which being my near hermit... more »

I have a lot of mixed feelings about that time, but I made a lot of friendships that really moulded my adult life, some of which are still going, but many that have since dissipated for various reasons (not the least of which being my near hermit level of introversion). This book is a reminder of that time for me, and never fails to bring up a lot of bittersweet memories.

It's weirdly nostalgic thinking back on that time, when I was always extremely stressed out, and having bouts of severe depression, as being part of why I ended up where I am now, the happiest I've ever been, and lucky enough to be able to afford spending a ton of time with my family without the stress of wondering where my next rent payment or meal would come from.

So... yeah, that got a little weird and rambly haha. Oh well. Long story short, maybe read the book if you're into silly hacking, vr, conspiracies, etc. It's free, so that's hard to beat!___

Played through the Single Player campaign for Titanfall 2 today, and it was pretty damn fun! Poked at Multiplayer for just a little while, and got creamed (of course), but was still a pretty good time.

I think I may enjoy the multiplayer stuff quite a bit once I get more used to it, and start unlocking some of the more interesting weapons and equipment. Who else is playing it on PC?

OMG, what? No. Why would anyone want that? I'm a fan of many of Tarantino's movies, and loved Deadpool, but this is just not a good mix. It would be like getting Tim Burton to direct a Big Trouble in Little China remake or something. Just wrong on every level.

No. Just no. Stop it. No.

Had someone randomly add me on Bleep (http://www.bleep.pm/) the other day (via email I assume? not sure who they are yet, so dunno) and just noticed.

Outside of that one rando, and a couple of uber paranoid old friends, I was not expecting anyone to actually be using it (though it is pretty nice on the security/privacy side of things, it's a bit clunky at times).

If you're one of the 8 people on the internet that seems to care enough about that stuff to use a separate messaging app, and for some reason want to add me, here's my public key in qr code form, because what better way to seem mainstream than to use qr codes, right?

Been using Wealthsimple for a little while now and it's been pretty great, especially since I'm an investment noob. They've done a great job explaining all the little bits I had questions about and it's crazy easy to manage things. Still a bit early to give a long term recommendation, but so far I'm really happy with them. Here's hoping that trend continues!

So the new Jack Reacher flick was pretty good, imo.

Pretty much if you enjoyed the first one, you'd probably enjoy the new one. Story is a bit meh, but the little bits of comedy were well placed, and the action is mostly pretty fun.

Kinda predictable, but it's the sort of thing where you're thinking "oh, is he gonna do what I think?" and then he does it, and you still cheer him on because it was fun to watch... so it mostly works out ok.

Ain't breaking any molds or anything, but it was a fun watch.

Plus, Robin Sparkles gets to kick some ass, so that's always nice.

I feel a bit like the world is currently running through Act 1 of a comic book movie of some kind.

We have an umpa lumpa running for president, there are clowns terrorizing people around the world, there are billionaires with their own spaceships, fighting over who can get to mars first, the weather around the world is going crazy... I could go on...

Things are getting REAL strange, and a tiny part of me is expecting aliens and/or super villains/heroes to start showing up any time now.

Like some time soon, one of the "super heroes" from Seatle, will suddenly think "it's finally time, they need the real me" and start flying or controlling tornadoes with their mind or whatever.

Saw the new Ghostbusters, finally.

It was bad. Really really bad. It DID manage to make me laugh a few times though, so it wasn't the complete loss I feared it might be.

The story made no sense. They didn't seem to want to follow their own internal rules about how things worked, the cameos were HARSH, and just too many little issues to count... but it didn't make me feel like my childhood had been torn apart or anything, just very VERY "meh" on every level.

A few of the jokes landed, which makes sense given that most of the main folks in it excel at improv comedy, but aside from that, it was a pretty rough watch, that kept me going "but... uh... huh?" every couple minutes.

I did enjoy the attempt they made to show them testing the tech and all that though, I'll give them that, and it seemed like the editing had been done by a drunken monkey of some kind, so it's really hard to say how much of the nonsensical plot issues is due to that or not... but whatever.

I've seen it. I'll likely never watch it again, unlike the original which is required viewing at least once a year, and any time it comes to a local theater... I can't even remember any of the times it made me laugh, I just know it happened a few times. Totally unmemorable and pointless, but if you're a fan of any of the main folks in it, it may be worth a single viewing just to watch them being silly for a couple hours... just don't expect much in the way of an actual movie experience... it's sadly just not there.___

Jump on the HYPE TRAIN!

I was a fan of the first one, though it definitely had some issues, and it at least looks/sounds so far like they've taken a lot of the feedback from that into account, so I'm hopeful this turns out to be pretty fun.

They did a very similar thing with the Assassin's Creed series, using the first one as basically an extended tech demo and used the feedback to make the next few AC games pretty great (for the most part at least), including the switch to a different main character... so... there is reason to hope I think.
