Saw the new Ghostbusters, finally.

It was bad. Really really bad. It DID manage to make me laugh a few times though, so it wasn't the complete loss I feared it might be.

The story made no sense. They didn't seem to want to follow their own internal rules about how things worked, the cameos were HARSH, and just too many little issues to count... but it didn't make me feel like my childhood had been torn apart or anything, just very VERY "meh" on every level.

A few of the jokes landed, which makes sense given that most of the main folks in it excel at improv comedy, but aside from that, it was a pretty rough watch, that kept me going "but... uh... huh?" every couple minutes.

I did enjoy the attempt they made to show them testing the tech and all that though, I'll give them that, and it seemed like the editing had been done by a drunken monkey of some kind, so it's really hard to say how much of the nonsensical plot issues is due to that or not... but whatever.

I've seen it. I'll likely never watch it again, unlike the original which is required viewing at least once a year, and any time it comes to a local theater... I can't even remember any of the times it made me laugh, I just know it happened a few times. Totally unmemorable and pointless, but if you're a fan of any of the main folks in it, it may be worth a single viewing just to watch them being silly for a couple hours... just don't expect much in the way of an actual movie experience... it's sadly just not there.___

If it weren't for this moment, I could have sworn the folks making the new Macgyver hadn't seen any of the original.

Jack Dalton as a super spy? The Phoenix Foundation as an agency so secret the CIA doesn't know it exists? Wastes one of the best bad guy actors of all time (Vinnie Jones) as a nearly pointless henchman? WHAT IS GOING ON?

I'll try to give it a chance for another episode I think, but so far... ick. Very ick.

Jump on the HYPE TRAIN!

I was a fan of the first one, though it definitely had some issues, and it at least looks/sounds so far like they've taken a lot of the feedback from that into account, so I'm hopeful this turns out to be pretty fun.

They did a very similar thing with the Assassin's Creed series, using the first one as basically an extended tech demo and used the feedback to make the next few AC games pretty great (for the most part at least), including the switch to a different main character... so... there is reason to hope I think.

Ok, so, way back when, I watched the first few episodes of You"re The Worst, and gave up on it for trying too hard to be the "anti-romcom" or whatever, but giving it a second try and pushing through the first few episodes, it has really grown on me. Like, REALLY grown on me. As in, I'm most of the way through the second season now, and it might be in my top 10 fav shows at this point.

I actually feel bad for myself for not having giving it a real shot sooner. Damn it. It's disgustingly good, and opens up into a damn spot on glimpse into things you don't see much of in comedy (or at all really), like clinical depression (that isn't played for laughs, or turned into a cartoon version of itself to maintain the tone of the show or whatever... I'm looking at you Titus!).

If you haven't seen it, and you like messed up relationships and deep cut references (there's a joke about the "time traveler" from that old Charlie Chaplin movie, "The Circus" ffs.) then I'd highly suggest you check it out and give it least 5 episodes to fully get into the groove it's going for.

Thinking about it, and actually the last set of Millennials (from just a little after 1900) were basically hitting peak "enter the job market and start their own life" mode just as the great depression was hitting. Millennials might just be screwed by the previous generations as a general rule :/

I want to like The Flash... I really do. There's a lot to like, and even love, in it. I just can't seem to get my brain to accept and/or ignore how utterly stupid just about all the main villians' (and some good folks) names are though. It's like a cruel joke having some of the best/funniest/etc banter, and funnest characters, and then tossing in the dumbest names for everyone. I know they all come right from the comics, so it's a tricky thing to change of whatever, but DAMN... Reverse Flash? Zoom? Kid Flash? Really now? Come on.

I don't know why my brain can't just accept it as campy silliness and move on in the case of The Flash like it can with other things in the same vein, like 60's Batman, or even something like Chuck, which was FULL of completely silly/campy things that totally were OK with me, but for some reason I just can't seem to... is it just... more »
