ARTISTS! If you're sharing your work on Google+ there's one important new "feature" you're going to want to disable immediately! Auto Enhance.
You know those colors you slaved over for hours to get just right? Google+ thinks it can do better, and if you don't turn it off it will boost up the saturation and blow out the contrast, forcing you to go back to every image individually to undo it.
Or, you can nip it in the bud right now. Go to the left to make the pop up menu appear, hit settings, and uncheck the box I've highlighted below.

First impression: I love it!

It baffles me how quickly and unilaterally Google is rolling out massive updates to its social network. With each new update, Google+ helps you find and interact with more and more content. This update is no different. Mention Influencers on Pinterest

Pinterest has released a major update to their apps today, one that might easily be underestimated. It didn't even warrant a new version number, as it's just version 2.4 on iPhones, and the key new feature isn't even the first one listed on Pinterest's blog post:

We're used to being able to mention other people on Twitter, Facebook and Google+, and LinkedIn added a pale, diminished version of mentionability a short while ago.

Being able to mention friends in posts is cool and fun and brings a new level of engagement to the app. Being able to mention influencers on brand pins is taking Pinterest to a whole new level.

I actually do auto-DM my twitter followers. It's a link that says BTW I'm also on G+ and you can follow me there as well...or something like that. 

I've thought about removing it but it's not "selling". I think of it as informing them that I'm also using another platform that they may be interested in.

Today, after being spoiled for the past 8 months or so, we cut the cord...again.

For the previous 5 years, before we moved to Houston, we lived a life without cable television  It was hard-ish at first. We adapted. The first thing we feared was that we would get "bored". We probably also were a little afraid of feeling "left out".

Neither of those things happened. 

Here's what happened. I read more (which also meant I wrote more but that's a whole other blog post that I should probably write). We talked more. We played with our kids a ton. Oh, and people don't really do the whole "water cooler" thing. Not like they used to. People have DVRs. They ask if you're watching a show and if you're current before discussing. It's pretty cool. It's kinda courteous.

There are two main reasons 1) Hope to intrigue someone enough to take a look at your site with the hope that they'll either spread the word about your pictures or 2) actually buy a print or a file; as unlikely as that may be.


Ad the second reason is EGO.  You've done something that you think is good, and you'd like others to see it and say, wow, that's a good shot.

Anyone here using Etsy? The Etsy blog usually has some great posts on how to increase sales in your Etsy shop. Most of those articles can easily be adapted to any other website really. I mean, it's all marketing. 

I've always like pulling marketing ideas from outside sources and seeing how they apply to what I'm doing. I think it can give you a head start or even get you ahead of the curb.
