And here I thought that I was fancy for automating some cell counting. Turns out that a new lab at Imperial College London is automating the whole bench biology pipeline. Will this result in more freedom for graduate students in experimental biology? Or will it just cut into their numbers? Does this mean that soon I might be able to run not only in silico simulations, but also robot-controlled in vitro? /cc +David Basanta, +Andriy Marusyk, +Jacob Scott, +Robert Vander Velde

The latest +2Scientists podcast by your +Pint of Science US friends is on sharks!

Dan Huber has been into sharks since the age of 8. He’s studied them, lived with them and almost lost his head because of them!

We talk biomechanics, the dangers of captivity and megalodon. So many questions…so little time. We appreciate you humoring us Dan.

Thanks as ever to the New World crew. We’d also like to credit the Wintermitts (who recently disbanded) with the featured track “Sharks” from their album “Oceans” - we just couldn’t resist!___The latest +2Scientists podcast by your +Pint of Science US friends is on sharks!

I skype therefore I am a scientist?
A few weeks ago I suggested that I am a scientist because I put numbers on things. Although even I recognize some limits to that argument, I was quite serious in suggesting that measurement and numeration is a central feature of being a scientist. I am not seriously suggesting that skyping is a central feature […]

In cancer treatment it's better to change the rules of the game

Last night on #TheEGG, I released a new post highlighting one of the main lessons that evolutionary game theory offers oncology: don't treat the player, treat the game. I tried to illustrate this with an analysis of concrete treatments in the acid and vascularization game that +David Basanta, +Jacob Scott, +Robert Vander Velde and I have been building. As is often the case, there are some pretty simplexes.___In cancer treatment it's better to change the rules of the game

Jennifer Sedillo is a microbiologist by training and beer scientist for love. So this Valentine’s day we talked to her over a pint, about our pints. We heard how brewing is not just for the bearded sex. And we finally have a reason for why that beer tastes as good as it does!
Tune in for all this and more!
Thanks to Small Monuments for another featured track and our true loves at the New World Brewery for having us back again.
Cheers beer fans!
