"Here's a revolutionary thought - what happens if it is revealed that Bernie Sanders is not the outlier?

What if Bernie Sanders is the candidate running who is most in tune with the current American zeitgeist? Can it be that Bernie is the one who is selling what America wants?

What if it is the Parties and the media who are the ones who are out-of-touch?

My friends, that may be exactly the situation we find ourselves in. For your perusal, may I suggest the following superb editorial from the New Jersey Star Ledger:  http://goo.gl/DevFJH

Yet, +Bernie Sanders is continually chastised for wanting to adopt these same "socialist" policies.  Don't be shy to share if you think Denmark, and Sanders, are on to something!!

File this under: You Can't Make This Sh!t up

So you remember that guy Hodges, of the Supreme Court case Obergefell v Hodges?  Oh, right that was just last week.  The marriage equality case that made same-sex marriage legal in every state of the USA.  Right.  Well guess who just attended a same-sex marriage?  Yup, good ole' Mr. Hodges. The defendant who was trying to stem the gay tide :-)

Why did he attend the wedding?  “Steve’s been my friend for 25 years, and I am looking forward to celebrating with him,” Hodges said of the ceremony that saw his friends Steve George and Jeff Gatwood married.

“I love my friend,” he added.

disclosure:  I did not hallucinate this story.

It's coming because ignorance is not strength, because corporations are not people, because money is not speech, it's coming because the propaganda of the corporate state never ceases, because the treachery of the bankers never ends, because the greed of the corporations is never sated, because corruption just keeps spreading like a virus through the bloodstream of corporate capitalism.

We gave signing petitions a try, we gave calling our congressmen and senators a try, we gave more and better Democrats a try, we gave waiting for Hillary a try, we gave every one of those dead end roads a try.  We've been there, we've done that, we've heard all the excuses, we've heard all the explanations, we've seen all the smoke and we've seen all the mirrors and we've seen how far down the rabbit hole goes.

We the abused, we the exploited, we the betrayed citizens of this ravaged republic will be that political revolution, we will be that storm of economic justice.

The corporate politicians are sailing right into it, but they don’t even see it.  The RNC doesn't see it, the DNC doesn't see it, Chuck Schumer doesn't see it, Debbie Wasserman Schultz doesn't see it, Hillary ...doesn't see it, none of her "opponents" in the "other party" see it, that kind of blindness tends to be a chronic malady when seeing only what you want to see is embraced as a career-enhancing strategy by savvy centrists on their way to the top.

I don’t know when that populist storm is going to hit the Capital, I don‘t know which craven congressmen are going to grab their life-jackets first, I don’t know how high the We the People waves are going to get, but I know one thing, when that storm hits full force, it’s going to be much too big for those centrist sailors and their little boat.

He's crashing the gates.  Because someone has to.  He's telling the truth about the fraud and deceit and corruption infesting this country's economic and political systems, and that truth is resonating across this entire nation.  We’re seeing history being made.  America is finally awakening after decades in the darkness of apathy and moral cowardice, the light of moral courage is finally shining, it's shining like a beacon everywhere Bernie Sanders campaigns.

Bernie Sanders: "There is something profoundly wrong when we have seen a proliferation of millionaires and billionaires at the same time as millions of Americans work longer hours for lower wages and we have the highest rate of childhood poverty of any major country on earth. There is something profoundly wrong when one family owns more wealth than the bottom 130 million Americans. This grotesque level of inequality is immoral. It is bad economics. It is unsustainable. This type of rigged economy is not what America is supposed to be about. This has got to change and, as your president, together we will change it.

The Truth About Junipero Serra, Founder of the California Missions

The Catholic Church has announced that Junipero Serra will be canonized as a saint.  The sad truth is that he was far from a saint.  In his zeal to convert Native Americans, they were enslaved and tortured.  If they misbehaved, they were whipped, branded, mutilated or even executed.

“If he is elevated to sainthood,” said Nicole Lim, the executive director of the California Indian Museum and Cultural Center in Santa Rosa, “then he should be held responsible for the brutal and deadly treatment of native people.”

If you live in California and want to witness a tribal ceremony, where the truth will be told about Junipero Serra, check out the flyer below.   This story is a piece of the history of our country.  We must not cover it up.            http://goo.gl/LJoQoA

by Bernie Sanders                                http://goo.gl/KVMHls

Our job is not to think small. It is to think big.

The United States is the wealthiest nation in the history of the world. Why are we so far behind so many other countries when it comes to meeting the needs of working families and the American middle class?

Why doesn't every American have access to healthcare as a basic right?

Why can't every American who is qualified get a higher education, regardless of family income?

Why can't we have full employment at a decent living wage?

Why must many older Americans be forced to choose between paying for food, shelter, or medical care?

Why can't working parents have access to affordable, high-qualitychildcare?

Why can't every American who is qualified get a higher education, regardless of family income?

Why can't we have full employment at a decent living wage?

Why must many older Americans be forced to choose between paying for food, shelter, or medical care?

Why can't working parents have access to affordable, high-quality childcare?

We should be asking questions like these every day. We have more billionaires in this country than any other nation on earth. We also have more child poverty than any other major industrialized nation. We have the highest rate of student debt. We have more prisoners, more homeless people and more economic inequality.

It doesn't have to be this way. These conditions are the result of deliberate policy decisions. We provide outrageous tax loopholes for billionaires and large corporations. The top tax rate is less than half of what it was during the postwar economic boom. The real minimum wage has fallen dramatically since the 1960s.

We can make better choices. Let's look at some of the issues that matter most to the American people:

Health Care for All

35 million Americans still lack health insurance. Millions of others are under-insured, with high deductibles and copayments that can make needed medical treatment unaffordable.

We are the only major industrialized country in the world that does not provide universal health care for all its citizens. Medicare is much more cost-effective than private insurers, and could serve as the foundation for a single-payer system like those in Great Britain, Spain, Norway, Italy, Iceland and Portugal. Other countries, including Japan, France, Germany, Canada and Denmark, provide universal coverage without a single-payer system but with better controls on costs and service.

If these countries can provide universal health care, why can't we?

Tuition-Free Public Higher Education

Student debt has reached crisis proportions in this country. 41 million Americans are burdened with student debt. Student debt has surpassed credit card debt and is now the second-largest source of personal indebtedness in this country.

People who graduated in 2014 with student debt owed an average of $30,000 each. That's unsustainable, and unforgivable.

College tuition is free in Germany, even for citizens of other countries. It's also free in Denmark, Norway Sweden, Finland, Ireland, Iceland, and Mexico. If they can do it, why can't we? Why do we accept a situation where hundreds of thousands of qualified people are unable to go to college because their families don't have enough money?

Paid Family Leave

We are the only major nation in the world that doesn't guarantee paid time off for new parents. Of 182 nations that do provide paid leave, more than half guarantee at least 14 weeks off.

In Great Britain, new mothers get 40 weeks of paid leave. 70 percent of countries offer paid leave to new fathers as well. Dads get two weeks of paid leave in Great Britain, Denmark, and Austria.

We are a nation that prides itself on its dedication to family values. Why can't we ensure that new parents have time to bond with their children?

Sick Leave

Even when working Americans face a serious disease like cancer, they have no guarantee of paid sick leave.

The average worker in other developed countries is guaranteed paid sick leave for long-term cancer treatment, for periods that range from 22 days in Canada to 44 days in Germany and 50 days in Norway.

We are the only one of 22 wealthy nations that does not guarantee some type of paid sick leave. When will we join the rest of the world in ensuring that ailing workers can get well without going broke?

Paid Vacation

We are the only advanced economy, and one of only 13 nations in the entire world, that doesn't guarantee workers a paid vacation. Workers in France get an entire month of paid time off every year. Scandinavian workers are guaranteed 25 paid vacation days per year. In Germany the figure is 20 days, and Japan and Canada each guarantee 10 paid vacation days per year.

It's common (although not guaranteed) for higher-paid American workers to get some vacation time. But half of all low-wage workers in this country get no paid time off at all.

Overwork

Americans are overworked in other ways, too. Despite huge increases in productivity over the last 100 years, Americans continue to work some of the longest hours on earth. Vast majorities of working people (85.8 percent of men and 66.5 percent of women) work more than 40 hours per week. Compare that to a country like Norway, where only 23 percent of males and 8 percent of females work more than 40 hours per week.

Every year Americans work 137 hours more than Japanese workers, 260 hours more than British workers, and 499 hours (62.3 days) more than French workers -- despite the fact that productivity has risen 400 percent since 1950!

Other countries are moving in the opposite direction. Spain, Norway, and the Netherlands have all shortened their workweeks to 35 hours. Interestingly, those countries have higher productivity than those with a 40-hour workweek.

We're also spending more years of our life at work. Millions of Americans are delaying retirement -- and, in some cases, working until the day they die. Polls have shown that a third of Americans are afraid they will never be able to retire.

Inequality

We're lagging behind in other areas too, ranging from childcare costs to internet access. We can and must do better. That means addressing the great economic, political, and moral issue of our time: wealth and income inequality. We have more inequality today than at any time since 1928. That is unacceptable.

We must send a simple message to the billionaire class: You can't have it all.

They will argue, of course. So will the politicians who serve them. They will insist that we can't do better, that we can't have the same basic rights as citizens of other countries.

It's time to ask them, and ourselves, a simple but very important question: Why not?

This is a photo of a 20-year-old Bernie Sanders leading students in a multi-week sit-in to oppose segregation in off-campus housing owned by the University of Chicago.

On a frigid Tuesday afternoon in January, 1962 the 20-year-old from Brooklyn stood on the steps of University of Chicago administration building and railed in the wind against the college’s housing segregation policy. “We feel it is an intolerable situation, when Negro and white students of the university cannot live together in university owned apartments,” the young bespectacled student told the few-dozen classmates gathered there. Then he led them into the building in protest, and camped the night outside the president’s office. It was Chicago’s first civil rights sit-in.  ( from http://goo.gl/gzZaFP )

This is a campaign like no other in recent history. +Bernie Sanders is a longshot because he isn't bought and paid for by billionaire donors. He’s a longshot because he won't play dirty politics the way you have to in order to succeed under our current (broken) system, and he is a longshot because we're experiencing an epidemic of political apathy in this country. In order for Bernie to win this thing, he just needs people to pay attention ...and give a shit.

"Momentum is building. The massive turnouts and energy at our campaign events make me believe the American people are ready to mount the grassroots political revolution this country needs."

Bernie Sanders destroys Climate Change Deniers In 2 Minutes     http://goo.gl/ZCAqDQ

+Bernie Sanders  compares the artificial 'debate' surrounding climate change research to the campaign funded by tobacco companies to convince America that smoking wasn't harmful. The fossil fuel magnates who have the most to lose from carbon emission reduction have already bought themselves the Republican Congress, and they're using the GOP as a mouthpiece to propagate a false narrative about global warming and its existence.

It is stunning that in just a few decades the Republican Party has devolved from the populist days of the Eisenhower administration, to the reactionary, inhumane Tea Party of today.

In 1956, the Republican Party boasted that under Eisenhower “the Federal minimum wage has been raised for more than 2 million workers.”  Today, the Texas Republican Party wants to “repeal the minimum wage.”

In 1956, the Republican Party promised to “extend the protection of the Federal minimum wage laws to as many more workers as is possible and practicable.”  Today, the lead Republican in the Senate on labor issues wants to abolish the minimum wage.

In 1956, the Republican Party platform pledged that it would work to “assure equal pay for equal work regardless of Sex.”  Last year, every Republican in the Senate voted against the Paycheck Fairness Act to assure equal pay for equal work.

President Eisenhower was right then, and Bernie Sanders is right now. These programs must not be cut, but in fact, need to be expanded so that all Americans can enjoy a dignified, secure lifestyle.

Like it or not, Sanders socialism is mainstream

The editorial is not long but it makes excellent points - by and large, Americans share Bernie Sander's views on wealth inequality, higher taxes for the wealthy, the corruptive influence of money in politics, overturning Citizens United, reducing student debt, pro-active climate change policies, a $15 minimum wage, and breaking up the banking monoliths.

BERNIE IS THE MAINSTREAM.

Savor that. What will 'The Powers That Be' do when they realize that not just the candidate but the candidate's positions are gaining traction? What happens when Americans are no longer scared by people calling Bernie a (gasp!) Socialist? What if they don't care about his hair or his age? What if they decide independently and collectively to reject the mindless blatherings of the pundits who call him "unelectable" and elect him?

I honestly believe it could happen."

For those curious about +Bernie Sanders , or concerned about the breakdown of the middle-class in America, this is a fantastic story. Multi-billionaires are beginning to talk about how income inequality is breaking down American society.

“We cannot have 0.1 percent of 0.1 percent taking all the spoils. It’s unfair and it is not sustainable.”  says Johann Rupert one of the world's richest people and owner of Cartier, at a luxury business summit in Monaco a few days ago.

Read how the Sanders compromise might be the only alternative to keep our society functioning, and ironically, keep these billionaires in business.     http://goo.gl/HIiD3u

"In the five years since the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision the dominance of big money over politics and policy has grown, seemingly without restraint and with dire consequences for representative self-government. A functioning democracy requires a government responsive to people considered as political equals, where we each have a say in the public policy decisions that affect our lives. It is profoundly anti-democratic for anyone to be able to purchase political power, and when a small elite makes up a donor class that is able to shape our government and our public policy."

It's not about settling for a mediocre platform with Bernie Sanders, it's about choosing fundamental change that our people need and deserve!  If you pass on Bernie, you are passing on the solution. You will watch the middle class continue to disappear. He truly has America's best interest in mind. He is not funded by billionaires or corporations, as accepting money from these sources would mean he owes them. Please, do give him more than just a passing thought!!

Bernie Sanders has a bold suggestion: If you care about families, it might be worth supporting them.   http://goo.gl/WLHBOU (Salon)

Signaling that he’s not prepared to concede the language of “family values” to sanctimonious social conservatives, Bernie Sanders on Thursday unveiled his own “family values agenda,” centered on a series of proposals to guarantee paid family and medical leave.

Noting that the United States lags other wealthy, industrialized nations in paid leave policies — indeed, the country ranks last on family policies — the Vermont senator and 2016 Democratic presidential hopeful called for the U.S. to catch up with the rest of the world.

“Last place is no place for America.  It is time to join the rest of the industrialized world by showing the people of this country that we are not just a nation that talks about family values but that we are a nation that is prepared to live up to these ideals,” Sanders said in a statement.

Accordingly, the democratic socialist introduced the Guaranteed Paid Vacation Act, legislation that would ensure 10 days of paid vacation annually for employees who have been with the same employer for at least a year. Other elements of Sanders’ “family values agenda” include 12 weeks of paid parental leave and at least seven paid sick days a year.    http://goo.gl/WLHBOU

Time to rebuild this engine!

The middle class is not shrinking because there isn't enough money being generated; it's because our tax system is funneling most of the income to the top most tier of society.

It's time to shift gears, and make this engine work for everyone.  http://goo.gl/EG8RtT

Which is the moderate stance, between allowing everyone access to education without throwing them immediately into a debt based system, or the one where you come out at 24 with $100,000 +  of debt?

Which is the more moderate stance, the one that encourages equality for all or the one that denigrates women, strips voting rights and longs for the segregationist past?

Which is the more moderate stance, a stance that encourages religious freedom or the one that will allow religions to legally impose their dogma upon others?

Which is the more moderate position, the one that stands for democracy through campaign finance reform or the one that encourages Oligarchs to buy the elections?

Which is the more moderate stance, between working 40 hours a week for a livable wage or one that means having to have two or three jobs just to get by?

Which is the more moderate stance, a transparent and open government and one that negotiates trade agreements in secrecy?

I could go on and on but hopefully you get the point.

What we have an upside-down distinction between what is moderate and what is truly radical, if you believe that democracy is a radical concept, then perhaps Bernie is the radical in the room. This was the case when the founding fathers wrote the Constitution and laid the basis for full democracy when the Civil Rights Act was eventually passed.  Apparently many believe it is still the radical position.

If wanting a level playing field where everyone has a chance at a succeeding....

If wanting that all work is valued, from toilet cleaners to CEOs...

If wanting that all have equal rights no matter their, gender, sexual orientation or color of their skin...

If wanting that government is open, fair and democratic....

If wanting everyone to have the right to vote...

If wanting these is radical communism, then call me Rosa Luxemburg.

Bernie Sanders 2016. The moderate's choice.

So.....Ray Kurzweil, Google's Director of Engineering, says humans will have 'hybrid' cloud-powered brains by 2030.  He believes that within 15 years, humans will be implanted with nanobots that will connect our brains to the internet, allowing for vastly accelerated cognition. Ten years after that, most of our thinking “will be done online."

Is this a good thing?  Who decides how bandwidth will be allocated?

Isn't it time to look beyond labels, to the heart and soul underneath?

The effect of billions of $$ poured into elections is nothing short of a corporate takeover of the US.

+Bernie Sanders has made overturning 'Citizens United' a pillar of his campaign.  It's time for a political revolution.

There is so much wrong about Santorum's recent comments on the Pope                      http://goo.gl/KRbJYN

First, if we are to indeed leave pronouncements on climate change "to the scientists", then we would be forced to face the grim reality that our earth is rapidly warming, and the cause is human.   http://goo.gl/4SU9hc

Secondly, the Pope is himself a scientist!  http://goo.gl/ioRm0n

Lastly, if Santorum is spouting his nonsense claiming 'morality', he needs to face reality:  the Pope's moral soapbox is a great deal larger than his.
