Jeff Smith61,248Welcome to The Selfy Sunday Project for *December 2/12* _PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS EVENT IS NOT FOR THIS SUNDAY, NOV. 25/12._ Theme: *Bond, James Bond!* I want to see Selfy's that are inspired by *007* and the James Bond films. Lots exotic locations, action packed chases as well as numerous villains and sexy leading ladies to offer inspiration here. Or just stick to a more general "SPY" or cloak and dagger noire theme. Either way it should be fun. _Props may come in handy here!_ ________________________________ The Halloween SSP was the scariest, most ghoulish, terrifying Selfy Sunday ever. Paid work.
Or insert insect screens in the windows.
Or empty two boxes in the office area and clear those from the floor.
Or paid work.
Or write more emails in an attempt to get bureaucracy to work a little faster.
Or do these screens. Or empty the boxes.
Or even go to the basement and get another box of clothes up here.

Yikes.
A little overwhelmed at the moment. With two types of paid work to do for two separate projects, plus 2 boxes definitely needing attention and two black nettings for the windows that should be installed... I'm just not sure I can make proper decisions right now.

For the moment:
Paid work first.
Boxes out of the way.
Screens in.
One more box of clothing up.

That sounds like a great plan, right? But it's already nearly 3 in the afternoon and I'm pretty sure nothing will be finished... more »

+Fergus Martin  - look at this!

I just got the email that says it was sent out yesterday, and in today's mail - here it is.

I think the photo is awful. I'm still figuring out taking shots with a cell phone and getting them to the computers. This move we made evidently removed all my intelligent brain cell activity.

Sorry for the garbage photo - but the stamps are on their way either later this afternoon or during the day tomorrow!

Still can't get the phone to post photos to public.
Hmpf.

Because the presents on order still have not arrived, and because of REASONS, the Bearded Guy and I spent Valentine's Day putting up the lights in the kitchen.
At last!
(Then, I sent him out with a visiting friend for the evening. Yup, that is how we spend Valentine's Day. hahahah! But today? Half-price chocolate? I may be sending him to the store)

Nearly 2 months, we now have kitchen lights. And a fridge! (Finally got that 2 weeks ago.)

Still need: bookshelves, new bed, balcony slats (don't ask, I'll post that another time) and a hallway light.

One tiny, slow step at a time.

Goodmorneve, Giggleplus!

My phone doesn't like posting to G+ anymore. At least, not to public.
So fine... I'll do it this way.

The L-shaped rod is up!

Not thrilled, exactly - I have used a screw plus glue in each mounting bracket and we'll see. It's not perfect. Plus, I don't own a small saw (!?) to shorten the rod just a couple of centimeters.

But at this point, we can shower instead of staying low in the tub or splashing the whole bathroom.
And yes, that's two different shower curtains. Because we're fun that way.
:D

The electrician was just here.
Evidently, older wall switches can fail. You know the place where you slap the wall to turn on the light? Well, those get old. And sometimes, you won't notice this. But according to this guy, older switches that suddenly deal with LED lights are more prone to decide they've had enough.

Something about the amount of electricity drawn by the older bulbs being high enough to not have a return amount coming back to the wall to buzz. But the LEDs don't pull enough, so there is feedback in the form of buzzing and sparks.

AND - he pulled out the old switch and installed a new one without turning off the power to the wall. You know, I would be scared to do that. All the power off, first, folks!

But he checked the other wall switches and said we should be fine to put in the rest of the lights.

Goodmorneve, Giggleplus!
Today, I have a hot date with a hammer drill. Just as soon as my eyes are actually open and the coffee has done its job in making me awake enough to handle a power tool. I'm tired of waiting. I'm going to drill some holes.
Do you have plans today?
And when does DIY (do it yourself) become CAP (call a pro) for you?___

So tell me, folks. Have any of you ever designed and built your dream home?
I'm curious because while I do love downtown apartment life, the idea of having a place that I have built "from the ground up" and set up "right the first time" really appeals to me.

Especially with all the boxes still under my desk.
hahahha!

Goodmorneve, Giggleplus!
I'm not ready to price the market, but I am ready to start the research. Have you ever had someone else do all the work?

Goodmoreve!
Too early on a Tuesday. At least, I think it's Tuesday.

Still don't have the shower curtain rod up. Still don't have proper holes drilled. Still don't have all the work done.
Piffle.

I believe there is a sense of being bored with this project.
Ha!

Working on coffee number two. We'll see if my ambition grows with this second cup.
How's your day starting/ending?

This is the back of the mounting piece. Can those hollows be filled in to make it solid? At which point, the adhesive should work?
That was my next thought, +Greg Ryals, what do you think?

Well, I still managed to crack a tile.
And then, instead of going through the tiles, we chose to go above them and so the drill was working... and working... and I still only got about half as deep as needed.
Piffle.

Gotta learn how to use this machine.

Goodmorneve and coffee, Giggleplus!
Today I will learn. I will make it work.

How do you learn a new skill, or relearn an old one? I've faced this before with riding a bike. Now it's about using power tools.

Goodmorneve and package deliveries, Giggleplus!

Okay, so why is it that when I have ordered two things for "me" that are for setting up the house - a set of specialty light bulbs for the kitchen fixture and a hammer drill (!) - and one thing for the Bearded Guy - a fold-out table... Why is it that mine, scheduled for today, are not yet here, but his, scheduled for tomorrow, came this morning? Why?
hahahah

On another note - I've never used a hammer drill before. A little excited about this, and a little wary. But this is needed because my little battery-operated drill that I've had for years has decided it's too tired to even try to get through the concrete walls. Yup, all our walls are concrete.

I'll be drilling two holes in the ceiling to install the kitchen fixture. 8 holes in the tile and concrete in the bathroom to install the shower curtain and a small shelf. Plus 4 holes in the balcony wall for the fencing to keep the animals from jumping off the balcony. And who knows how many others for future projects? That's just what is going to happen in the near future.

Spoke with my former housemate's dad who said to work slowly, not push too hard, let the drill do the work. Reminded me to be steady on the ladder. And to clear out the holes before putting in the spacers/dübels/those little plastic things that hold the screws.

Is there anything else I should know? Anything else to be aware of?

One more coffee, please, I want to be awake when it gets here.
<dancing around> I got a new toy tool!

Our Berlin apartment came with kitchen cabinets, stove and double sink (that's not really "normal" here, we got lucky!) but no overhead lighting.
Also, a toilet, sink and bathtub (!), (the tub part being also not "normal").

But since it's winter, we're using the balcony as a fridge. However, we are both a little tired of that, plus we had other plans for the balcony, plus, it would better to get the food inside, plus, plus, plus...

And it's not like we have masses of space for it either. At most, 60 cm wide. Can't do the side-by-side set in that space! hahaha

We have decided the fridge shopping needs doing this week. Two weeks in the new place, two weeks of going outside for the milk and butter and cheese, but also, two weeks of shopping for canned and boxed goods. It's time to get some actual proper food in here.

Anybody got a clue what to look for? I know about energy ratings (A+ or better), I know about fitting it in the space we have, I know that The Bearded Guy and I disagree on preference of having the freezer at the top or bottom though both can live with it either way and I know that having enough room to fit certain sizes of containers in doors or on shelves - with moveable shelving - is preferred.
But what else should I look for? What are the important factors I am forgetting here?

Happy New Year!

Still working on waking up. Got paid work to handle, a new apartment to put into some more proper order, and general busyness.

Trying to do too many things at once means nothing gets done. So today starts with a short list.

1. Coffee - come on, coffee, get working. Cup number three on the way.
2. Answer all new email twice a day. Not every five minutes as it comes in. (First one for the day - DONE!)
3. Start on the paid work.... yeah yeah, after the coffee.

:)

Goodmorneve, Giggleplus!
How was your fireworks night?

When all the paperwork goes sideways due to a move and there's no internet to double-check things (or very slow internet!), some stuff gets lost in the shuffle.

I have spent today trying to fix that.

No, my brain no longer works.

Aber, guten tag!
I have to try the German from time to time or I'll never speak or write - much like my time with Swedish. I really prefer not to do that again. In 13 years, there wasn't much talking and there was no writing. I could read, but that's about it.
I'd like German to come a little faster, and I'll really have to work at this.

Hiya, folks! What's your day been like?

At long last ... back up!

New apartment, internet came this morning and life is changing constantly.
Berlin, baby!

More later, right now I'm still catching up all the things that got put to the side from the last 8 months of moving out of Sweden.

Whew...what a ride!

Catch me up, folks, what have I been missing? What should I know?

A small rant this morning.

The Deutsche Post / DHL guy was here a bit ago with a package for me that required ID. Not a problem, right? I have my passport and my Swedish ID card, both considered valid here.
But for whatever reason, his machinery decided they were invalid. He could not give me my package.

So now I have to go to a physical post office (and of course, it's the one with no easy way to get there - hahaha!) and try again.

What could be wrong about my ID - or maybe wrong with his machinery?

Ah well... one more thing to do in Berlin!

Goodmorneve and some more coffee, Giggleplus!
How much of a fuss do I throw at the post office? It wasn't their fault, necessarily.

Nah ... just wait a couple of days and see what happens when I can get in there.

There are days when a primal scream is just a necessity.
This may well be one of those days.

Photo? Oh, heavens no. Not on a day like this.

Goodmorneve, Giggleplus!
Feels like the day should just be starting now and yet it's already been a day and a half worth of fizzle. How loud should the scream be? Loud enough to startle the neighbors? Or just enough to worry the animals indoors with me?

:)

Preparations and preparations.
For nail art.
For grocery shopping.
For weekend markets.

So the question today is - do preparations ever actually come to fruition?

Ah, just when I thought there would be a day to go explore a little in Berlin...
A client has called and offered more paid work.

Another possible client has called for a quote.

And it's raining. But I'm supposed to have date night with the Bearded Guy.
May I please have the rain stop falling, the clients be a little patient and the rest of the day to go easier? Just a little?

This post took more than two hours to finish - how many things get in the way of just writing a few paragraphs for you? Or can you put everything on hold and finish a thought first?

A few days ago, I finally painted my nails!
Still not settled in, there is simply no more space to have most of my creative stuff within easy reach.

A few bottles of polish, a couple of nail tools and a stack of stickers. In a small box. Wondering if there is room to put a canvas, a few acrylic colors and a few brushes.

Living small - are there easy ways? I am overly-accustomed to really spreading out!
Hahaha!

How do you confine the separate parts of your life? Storage areas, boxes, different rooms?

French press coffee.
Okay, Giggleplus, who has tips on the best way to clean this contraption?

I thought a strainer would do it. Honestly, the strainer is so big, I'm just splashing the grounds when I dump them in the bio-waste.
We thought a cloth strainer would do it. Have you ever tried to get the last bits out of a cloth strainer?
There has to be a better way.

Still working on the right level of grinding. Still working on the right amount of steeping. Still working on how to keep it all hot while letting it sit for a bit to allow the grounds and the nearly-boiling water to do their magic.

Today?
There is work. But first, there will be music in my headphones and polish on my fingernails. I can't take it any more!

I can't remember the last time I was able to watch a rugby match.
Sometime in the 1970s, maybe?

Today, I am being taken to a local pub to watch a State of Origin match - my housemate is a huge rugby fan.
And I'm wearing his Queensland shirt. Because that's the state of origin for my housemate.

We will be going out among other rugby fans.

Isn't this the game we called "kill the man with the ball" when we were kids?

A long to-do list.
Two projects of paid work.
And my nails - still nothing on my nails. It's been since February, I think. This may be one of the longest periods ever without something on my nails.

That does not make me a happy girl.

Well, it's been a while since I've heard a serious thunderstorm. For whatever reason, those are pretty rare in Sweden. But in Berlin? Last night's storm was more like what I am accustomed to hearing in the Mid-Atlantic US.
It didn't really start until late last night - after 10:30 - but honestly, even if I had been asleep at midnight, a few of those thunderclaps would have woken me.

I survived.
As did our animals.

Today is finishing up some work and prepping for an afternoon of nail art with a teenager. My nails are in such need....

In other news, one of our little guys made it out to the living room last night - the dog was in one of the children's rooms, so the cat decided it was a good time to explore. This meeting-of-the-animals is taking longer than I had hoped. But it's probably for the best.

The dog is quite jealous of any attention paid that is not in her direction and she is absolutely jealous of other animals. The cats? They don't really care much, except that our little one, with lack of eyesight, is easily frightened by the barking. And our big one, nearly aged 12, appears simply bored by the large dog's voice.

We shall see.

Goodmorneve and coffee, Giggleplus!
My work for today is nearly done - so that means I should watch my emails for the next project, right?
When introducing new animals to a household - anyone have tips on that? I have two Norwegian Forest cats, both over the age of 10, introducing them to a 4-year-old Border Collie mix - who barks. Any ideas on how to make this easier or faster? And the least amount of stress on all sides?
Trying to be a good pet owner... feels like I'm failing, somehow.___

Photos? What photos? The ones on my iPhone that is having a hard time talking to my MacBook? Or the ones on my camera that is still in its case from the move... 3 weeks ago?

Nah, I'll have to wait to show photos.

Today, the Bearded Guy is at the Berlin Art Market with his stand and his prints. Day 2 of this for him. I like the location there.

Of course, when I stopped by to bring him a few things, I did look at the other vendors - and bought something groovy.
But can I show it to you? No, I can not. Because the photo is stuck in my phone!

Appointments and payments, videos and text to work on, a house that should be Swiffered and vacuumed, animals to play with, just Things.To.Do.

And in all this, I still have not fixed my nails. This is the travesty of it all.
My broken, sorry-looking nails need attention. And yesterday's deliveries included a package with some things to do exactly that. So at some point, after the paid work is done for the day, I really must sit down and try to fix these nails.

Still no photos, still no real "settling in", though we are trying. So far? A TV in the bedroom, all the computers up and running, the printer in place, but the shredder is still just waiting to be plugged in and the plan for office supplies continues to just be a box instead of drawers. Where am I to put all the nail art? Or the acrylic paints? For now, there simply isn't room to do this.

It seems I am less than clear when I speak.
Which generally means I am probably less than clear in my writing.
This is not a good thing.
I fear it is a sign of me being less than clear in my own mind, about what I do - and could be a harbinger of more serious mental loss.

Or is it just the current situation and the still-not-moved-in feeling?

Oh, I do not know. I only know that the work I wanted to do this morning now has to wait - gotta let him get some sleep first!

It's not as easy to mess with our sleep schedules now. There are other people to consider.

Why is trip planning so difficult?
Why do internet sites suddenly not want to take my money?

Ah, the joys of moving, the joys of new phone numbers, the joys of rising trip rates from the time you hit the "this flight" button to the time you want to check out, the joys of making sure you have everyone's birthdate and exact name as in the passport...
Nah, can't happen.

I don't think I've ever had such issues with DHL before.
Sure, in Sweden, we had to walk a rather long distance to collect those packages - which is why I tried to use other services.
But in Germany - I've watched packages arrive here, at this apartment, on time and intact.

Ummm... I stayed home quite a while, then my housemate was here. And the neighbors were home. (That's another common thing, they'll leave it with the neighbor.)

Was supposed to arrive Monday. Within 20 minutes, the listing had been changed to "can't deliver today".
Ummm... okay, maybe you mis-loaded the truck?

Paid work.

Or write more emails in an attempt to get bureaucracy to work a little faster.

Or even go to the basement and get another box of clothes up here.

We've discovered a few things that were not packed, or that were given up, or that were thrown out - things that perhaps we should have kept. So we're working on making sure we have the right tools for the job. As in... yup, gonna need a trip to IKEA.
How much do you "start over" in a new place as opposed to having brought it all with you when you move?

A minor delay at the Rathaus to get registered, but then everything went smoothly.
Many thanks to online expat forums, people around me who speak and understand German, the woman who indeed spoke English, plus my need to Be Prepared - it meant we had only a few questions and when it got beyond us, she switched to English and then we were given our official registration paper.

Goodmorneve and one more cup of coffee for the road, Giggleplus!
The time has come. ___

A load of items for donation has been picked up.
I count two more loads of laundry, then I am done.
Done? I hope so!
Lovely Mommy has installed our sofa in her place - my couch fortress has officially changed hands.  :)

And my mover,   +Xpress Flytt  - called this morning with information for tomorrow's move. Love these guys! I should count how many emails we have had back and forth, and every time, they are so positive about everything to be done.
Same with this morning's call - very positive.
With all the moving insanity, these guys have been a bit of calm. Thank you!

There was snow in southern Sweden this morning, so the Bearded Guy is delayed a little on his return. A bit close to May for snow, don't ya think? I'd rather they do as they did - stop and wait it out. So a little delay on getting him back here for the actual movetomo... more »

Me? On a train in the morning, on a plane in the afternoon, and then I will be in Berlin for dinner!
Which means I will also be in Berlin for the arrival of the moving truck.  :)

And for +Addis G, since you know our creatures very well:
Our new housemates have very kindly agreed to take care of our animals today until I can get there tomorrow - their youngster has sat with them and is making friends - M really likes the little guy, G is still skittish, as expected. That is a huge relief for these last couple of days.

Goodmorneve and coffee, Giggleplus!
I think there is only the final box of water kettle and toiletries and medicines to be packed.
I think.
How much do you do yourself, and how much do you delegate to the other members of your family?

Waiting for +John Thelin to make it home for one last look around here, one last go through the place, one last couple of days of "finishing". ___

The Art Mile is open.
And the Bearded Guy is there.

Berlin, I do hope you are warmer than Sweden this morning. I just latched every window here since I woke up freeeeeeeezing.

Here's to a warm day at the Art Mile and buyers interested in canvasses.

Yup, Giggleplus, this is the Bearded Guy Who (no longer) Lives At My House - he's already in Berlin!
I'll be there Tuesday, when the movers come.  :)

Selling my small canvases (or at least attempting to) at the Fehrbelliner Platz art flea market. In Berlin, that is. ___The Art Mile is open.

Kitchen table and stools - delivered elsewhere.
Couch and coffee table - delivered elsewhere.
Pocket Viking's things - delivered elsewhere.

it's starting to look like we're actually moving out of here.
Just a bit more work tomorrow and then Monday, the church charity shop will come and collect the items I have for them and Tuesday is the movers.

As slow going as it has been, the end is in sight.

Goodmorneve and coffee, Giggleplus!
Typing is echoing in this living room... it's an odd sound now.

Miss A will be here soon, we hope to have all the pieces ready for tomorrow's pickup - Lovely Mommy is taking the couch, coffee table, kitchen table, kitchen stools and the rest of the Pocket Viking's toys.

That will empty the place a bit!

In order to move things like this, however, some other things must leave the hallway. So we're back to the jigsaw puzzle of "that table into the office, that box into the kitchen, these pieces out the door, table from the office into the bedroom, then that piece out the door..."

It's been quite the party.
And we are not yet finished.

Goodmorneve and please, just one more coffee, Giggleplus!

Husband and animals have arrived at the new home in Berlin!
That is a relief, considering all the tension of the trip - the animals took it fairly well, the humans were so very concerned.
Whew!

Now I have more to do.

Proofing.
Proof-reading is required, so that's my work for today.
There is also more stuff to be done around this place for the move, and Miss A will be joining me later, Mr C will come this evening. Not sure I could handle this without the help.

But - one room nearly complete. Cleaned, boxes for the charity are being stacked (pick up on Monday), and more items will go into there as they are ready.

Goodmorneve and coffee, Giggleplus!
When you have traveled with pets, do they travel not-so-well, or is it the humans in extra-stress time?

The Bearded Guy and the animals are in the car... mom-in-law is driving. Their trip has begun.

I have a few days to finish a little sorting, load up a bunch of junk for the dump run with a friend, box up things for charity and get my last items into suitcases.

This next week is going to be odd. No husband, no pets.

Goodmorneve, Giggleplus!
Still plenty to do before the movers come, and friends who have offered - all I need do is call. I have promised that I will call when it's too much for me.
Moving - how often in your life have you moved? From just across the street, to across an ocean, I can count 12 moves without thinking too hard about it.
Edited - make that 15. I just recounted.

Packing.
Does it end?

I suppose it ends when the moving truck comes, right?
hahahahhaha

For various reasons, the Bearded Guy leaves tomorrow with animals. There will be a week here of me and a few on-call friends to clear as much as we can... then he will return for the moving truck. Whew!

Our housemates have agreed to feed the animals that morning, but then I will be on a plane to join them in the afternoon. So glad the plane ride is short! It'll take longer to get from here to the airport than it will for the plane trip.

I'm doing a lot of laughing. It's a lot more fun than yelling. Though there has been a good deal of that too. Primal screams can be helpful.

Goodmorneve and yes I will have a little more coffee, thank you very much, Giggleplus!

Booked the Bearded Guy's move last night. He's going early with the animals for half a dozen reasons.
There are animal cabins on some of the ferries - you don't have to leave them in the car. He chose one of those. And overnight, so his Mom (she's driving) can get some sleep and break up the trip.

In the meantime, we're closing in on finishing this. What's going with us is fairly settled now. It's a matter of getting the last few big pieces into that one room (staging area), then the items for the dump into an area where they can be easily grabbed and removed, and then the items that will go to the church second-hand in yet another area for their pickup day.

He is five days from leaving, I am ten days. It's coming up. Some of the paperwork is falling into place, other pieces are still in waiting.

Got a friend coming over to help with the sorting of the clothes. Standing and choosing just isn't in the cards for me right now, so she has agreed to assist. Yay!
How much help do you require for moving? Just a few hands for the actual move, or several dozen friends on different days to assist with all the little details?___

Details and details.

Work, payments, scheduling movers (and shakers!), sorting, packing, trashing... along with everyone's paperwork.

Which route to take with the animals? Overnight at a hotel, or on a ferry? What about sleeping on arrival, especially if mom-in-law is to stay a few extra days? Which hotel or hostel to put her into? Schedule now, or wait until we know other details?

Left up to me completely, all this would have been finished. But it's not always up to me.
Since it's not up to me, I gotta let go of the stress. You didn't finish on time? That's on you. You don't answer me promptly? I can't help you.

And while I get it that companies need things in a hurry - you gotta expect to pay for the privilege. I'm sorry that telling you the price for weekend work made you cringe.

Woke up good, but as soon as I stood up, the pain returned. If that wasn't a "get back in the bed!" moment, I don't know what is.___

With a hat-tip to +LD Williams for posting it first...

Current diagnosis is Grave's disease. An autoimmune disorder. So you know what, medicines? Take this:

Goodmorneve and coffee, Giggleplus!
I'm going to just leave this here and read a little more. I have work to be done and a home to prepare - we get the Pocket Viking in a couple of hours!
But yeah, the world has tried and failed. I'm still standing. And with a little help from medication (we hope!), I'll kick this too.

One more possible diagnosis.
This one comes with medications. And further testing.

This should be fun - along with the move. yay.
I do hope the cross-border medical fun doesn't take long.

Part of the work is done and delivered, there is of course more work to do behind that one! And some boxes waiting for tape. And some cubbies waiting to be emptied.

Oy, there's lots to do yet.

Goodmorneve, Giggleplus!
No question today, just a ramble of thoughts.

Signed, sealed, delivered ...
Now we wait for the return items. The return items are important to the move as well.

Moving between countries is filled with paperwork!

Whew. That part is done. Well, almost. Still need to file one more thing so the mail will forward for a few months, while I sort out the last few folks who don't yet have the new address.

Work to be done, a hangout with grandchildren scheduled for later. Yay!!!

Goodmorneve, Giggleplus!
When you are a typist at your job, and you notice that the errors are piling up, is that when you walk away for a break, or do you take a break every hour on the hour?

I wait until the errors are piling up or I can't see the screen or need a drink.

Signatures in place - envelopes ready for the mail.
Final paperwork going off my desk as fast as possible. I want to box this stuff up and forget about it!
... something about business and keeping the bills paid and needing to file and that's the reason this stuff is still in my way. Meh.

More boxes taped shut.

And in the meantime - more work! Yay! A new project, a continued project, and an editing project. So happy.

Little by little, things get boxed up. But I am not thrilled about the slow pace of getting things out of here to new homes. Some of it is that we have to schedule a vehicle (run to the dump) and some of it is scheduling with the people to whom these items will go. There is no real rush as yet, it's my impatience taking over!

Not enough packing done.
But most of the paperwork is finished, just a few signatures and details on those.

Finally got my hair washed. We will not be discussing how long I have been unable to do it. We shall only be grateful that it is now done.

Hungry ... but only a little. Busy ... but only a little. Pain ... but only a little.

Goodmorneve, Giggleplus!
How far in advance do you know what's to eat? Are you a weekly menu planner, or just when the hunger pangs start?
(I'm ready to eat, but I don't know what to eat. Of course there is nothing worth eating in the house. hahaha)
