Derek Ross1,329,722*The original Android Hangout Show returns!* Hi. I was the first guy on Google+ to start doing live Hangout Shows for Android news and discussion way back during the Hangouts on Air beta days. My team and I ran a successful Android related Hangout show for for 74 weeks in a row before our hiatus. Our show was watched and listed to by thousands every week via Google+, YouTube, and various Podcast platforms. *The band is getting back together...* ...or at least the lead singer. I've come to realize that the shows offered today just don't cut it. They're not professional. They're boring. They don't offer any value such as show guests or giveaways. They're just not what my team used to provide and it angers me. I'm going to try my best to change that for you guys. I'm tentatively going to relaunch our Android on Air show next month. The time and date are subject to change pending renovations to my office. If everything can be completed by then, I'll be back in business providing you with quality HoA Android goodness. The original Android Hangout Show returns!2014-06-06 03:00:0098

Google Spaces will be shut down on April 17th, 2017

Well, if you use Google Spaces, it's going away after 11 months of non-use... I used Spaces the first day it launched and that was it. There was no reason to continue to use it. I had hoped that Spaces would turn into Google's Slack competitor, but I guess that I was wrong, at least for now.

It looks like in the near future more devices are going to get Google Assistant and support for Payments and Google Express.

Assistant is great and needs to roll out to a wider range of devices sooner than later. While assistant is cool, I think having Google Payments and Google Express is going to be a killer feature. It was quite nice (all 2 times I did it) to order a product from Amazon with my old Echo. Having similar capability with Google Home seems like a needed feature, even though I didn't use it all that much, Google still needs it to compete with what Amazon has to offer.

Would you use your Google Home or Google Assistant to order products from Google Express? YouTube tries again to be more social

YouTube is one of the largest social media networks and sharing platforms on the planet, though we don't often think of Google's YouTube as a social network, and view the service as a content delivery or consumption tool. Well, Google is trying to capitalize on YouTube's massive user base and is introducing a new way to share on YouTube.

If you're interested you can add me as a contact on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/addme/ammFIUR_Vwy8B11TYrKMidioFPbApg

Verizon's Wear24 is probably the best Android Wear 2.0 watch announced today

You know +Kellen Barranger, I was thinking the exact same thing after I saw the announcements today. The LG Watch Sport is way ugly, but packs all sorts of features. The LG Watch Style is much more stylish, but lacks the features that I'd want the most, LTE and NFC. (I don't care a bout GPS or heart rate sensors to be honest, I don't exercise. I should. I just don't.) There is good choice here.

However, that doesn't mean there isn't a middle ground. Enter the Wear24, Verizon's own Android Wear smartwatch, coming in at $299 with LTE and NFC.

Boom.

That right there is very intriguing... at least until we see what Huawei is going to offer with their Watch 2. Though, rumors put it at a more sporty watch than the original, elegant Huawei Watch.

+YouTube's Mobile Live Streaming is FINALLY launching

But, to take advantage right now, you'll need 10,000 subscribers. That's a shame. Services like Facebook Live, Periscope, and Instagram Live are dominating a space that Google had years ago, without a live mobile component. I think YouTube's massive audience is going to help them get off the ground, but it's still too early to tell if it's too little, too late.

Feel free to help a guy out and subscribe at http://www.youtube.com/c/DerekRoss so I can test this feature and bring you awesome Android and mobile tech related content!

Mozilla calls it quits on Firefox OS

Seeing as Android and iOS own 92% of the mobile market space combined, this shouldn't be surprising. A new player in this space has such an incredibly hard uphill battle at this point it's going to be tough for anyone to enter, even if you're an established business. Hopefully Android One can capitalize on the very low end market that Mozilla wanted to go after.

A new player in this space has such an incredibly hard uphill battle at this point it's going to be tough for anyone to enter, even if you're an established business. Hopefully Android One can capitalize on the very low end market that Mozilla wanted to go after.___

Plex is now ready for Amazon Alexa support...c'mon Google Home!

If you use Plex and have an Amazon Echo, you're going to be one happy camper thanks to Plex's ability to hook into Alexa.

My family loves Plex and uses it daily to consume most of our tv shows and movies. We already use Google Home to pause, rewind, etc, our TV's that happen to be casting content from Plex. That said, we'd love more. We'd love to be able to say hey google play <insert movie or tv show from Plex here> on the family room tv - just as you can with YouTube or Netflix. Hopefully that support is coming soon.

Too many ways to Google!

I've been saying this for a while, ever since I started using my Pixel. There's too many ways to access slightly different versions of Google on my phone and it's a bit silly and confusing for the tech lament.

Please merge Google Now and Google Assistant. And, please make the Assistant experience the same across all devices and services. Thank you.

Elon Musk speaks about The Boring Company, will save us from traffic hell

What started off as a joke, at least it seemed to be a joke, may actually turn into a real thing. If anyone can do it, Elon sure as hell is the person to do it.

“Without tunnels, we will all be in traffic hell forever,” Musk told The Verge via Twitter DM today. “I really do think tunnels are the key to solving urban gridlock. Being stuck in traffic is soul-destroying. Self-driving cars will actually make it worse by making vehicle travel more affordable.”

Huawei Watch 2 rumored to launch soon, could come with LTE connectivity

The original Huawei Watch is the best damn Android Wear watch out there, in my opinion. It's a classy time piece that screams beauty from every corner. I am truly excited to see Huawei returning with a follow-up, though I'm slightly less enthused to hear that it will be a bit more 'sportier' this time around. I guess we shall see.

Google Voice gets major UI refresh, Hangouts days are numbered for consumers, in my opinion.

The new UI is here, finally, after 5 years of zero updates. If you still use Google Voice, this update is quite substantial.

Instant Tethering allows you to...instantly tether...with ease!

If you're rocking a Nexus or Pixel and wish to share your Internet connection with your Pixel C or Nexus 9 tablet, now you can without having to go through the barbaric process of configuring a hotspot all by yourself. This sounds like an excellent feature if you're often sharing your LTE connection to your tablet.

Which... I don't have a tablet any longer and really don't see the need for one at this time, so I won't be using this feature. I do however share my Internet connection to my children's tablets in the car quite often. Too bad this feature won't work for those types of scenarios.

My kids have been using this for a while to Cast Netflix to the Vizio TV in the Family Room. They don't use the remote any longer. It's hilarious. What a time to be alive.
