Derek Ross1,332,844*The original Android Hangout Show returns!* Hi. I was the first guy on Google+ to start doing live Hangout Shows for Android news and discussion way back during the Hangouts on Air beta days. My team and I ran a successful Android related Hangout show for for 74 weeks in a row before our hiatus. Our show was watched and listed to by thousands every week via Google+, YouTube, and various Podcast platforms. *The band is getting back together...* ...or at least the lead singer. I've come to realize that the shows offered today just don't cut it. They're not professional. They're boring. They don't offer any value such as show guests or giveaways. They're just not what my team used to provide and it angers me. I'm going to try my best to change that for you guys. I'm tentatively going to relaunch our Android on Air show next month. The time and date are subject to change pending renovations to my office. If everything can be completed by then, I'll be back in business providing you with quality HoA Android goodness. The original Android Hangout Show returns!2014-06-06 03:00:0099

Duo is here and I absolutely love it!

I've been using Duo for the past month and have to say that it's simplicity and video quality make it an absolute joy to use. Knock knock is a great feature that allows you to see who's calling and what they're doing before you answer it. I don't know what else to say besides it's pretty damn cool. As for the video quality, it's perfect and works great. Duo also works great when you have a shaky Internet connection, pausing the video and then resuming when the connection improves, all the while keeping the audio conversation in tact. I've tested the WiFi to LTE hand-off many times and it works so seamless that you won't even notice.

Apparently Google Maps has 3 different voices.

1) The new, better sounding voice that's been out for a while.
2) The old school robotic voice that's used when you don't have data.
3) And the one I just heard. An extremely normal sounding, but super seductive voice. I've never heard this voice before. I'm also slightly aroused and cannot wait to turn left.

Android Pay automatically adds Walgreen's loyalty cards

Android Pay now automatically adds your Walgreen's loyalty card during the check-out process if you pay with Android Pay. No longer do you need to scan your Walgreen's card AND tap to pay with NFC like a primitive barbarian in two separate processes. It's now all handled at the same time. Congrats Walgreen's shoppers.... I don't have any of those around here.

Here is the best Android 7.0 Nougat review you'll find.

Even though I've been known to review many a Android device (though not in a long while) I still love reading what others have to say on the subject. And let me tell you... When +Ron Amadeo writes words, I read them. So sit back, relaxing, sip your evening beverage, and enjoy learning everything you've ever wanted to know about Google's latest version of Android.

According to +TELUS, Android 7.0 Nougat is coming on Monday, August 22nd. What a time to be alive.

Now dates are always subject to change for various reasons, but according to the Telus website, the Android N update will begin to roll out to the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X.

We could also see the Android 7.0 AOSP code hitting anytime between right now and Monday too.

T-Mobile brings back "100%" unlimited data

Sure, there's a few caveats that make their unlimited data not truly unlimited, but for the most part, and for most people, their new plan will be unlimited. Confused? If you're into HD video, tethering, or massive amounts of downloading, T-Mobile One may not be as cheap as advertised as you'll need to subscribe to a few add-ons. But as I said, for most people, this is a hell of a deal.

Google Duo will get audio only calls in the future!

The Googs will be adding audio only calls to Duo at some point in the future according to +Amit Fulay. Seeing as how Hangouts has this capability and Duo does not, this seems like a logical addition, especially since Hangouts will live on in the future as a business service and Duo and Allo will focus on the consumer side of things.

This seems like a nice Spaces update, if you remembered that Spaces is still actually a thing.

Spaces Update August 15
We just rolled out new versions of Spaces on iOS, Android and the Web. Here's what's new...

* Android: reply to conversations with results from Google image search (creative commons licensed images only)
* iOS: faster performance for photo & video posting, new in-app notifications, several accessibility improvements
* Web: drag & drop images to add them to a conversation, Web browser notifications, crop the cover photos you set for your spaces, improvements to first time use

As always, please keep sending us your ideas/issues using the Send Feedback menu item in the Spaces app.
Thanks~

Hangouts on Air is moving from +Google+ to +YouTube Live

Is this more doom and gloom for G+? No, not at all. HoA's have always been part of YouTube. A merging of the services needed to officially happen to be less confusing for users. And, with YouTube's pending launch of their Periscope and Facebook Live competitors, this only makes sense. Speaking of which, when the hell is that going to launch? Maybe on September 12th?

"Because Apple doesn't make that..."

Brother-In-Law breaks his iPhone yearly...

My wife: "Why don't you get a phone that's waterproof or shatterproof?"
Her brother: "Because Apple doesn't make that."
My wife: "Laughing, do you have to have an Apple?"
Her brother: "Yes."

Fuchsia is a new open source OS from Google that seems to have some ties to BeOS developers of years ago. What is this OS going to be used for? No clue. Everything will be documented and announcements will be made when Google is ready. For now, let the speculating begin!

Use if you Facebook and hate their advertisements, you can once again block them with the latest Adblock Plus.

Facebook's plan to stop ad blockers has already been foiled. Adblock Plus has found a way to strip ads from Facebook, even when they're served up in Facebook's new ad blocker-proof format. Anyone with a fully updated version of Adblock Plus should once again be able to avoid ads in Facebook's sidebar and News Feed.

If you use Trello or GitHub, you'll love this update. Plus, there's easy reading of your Google Alerts, and FINALLY, you can insert Google Drive links directly into emails and save attachments directly to Drive.

Google's proactive measures to Android security will project their users from QuadRooter.

Typical media bullshit scare tactics? Yep. Google's already protecting their users via Verify Apps and SafetyNet.

We appreciate Check Point's research as it helps improve the safety of the broader mobile ecosystem. Android devices with our most recent security patch level are already protected against three of these four vulnerabilities. The fourth vulnerability, CVE-2016-5340, will be addressed in an upcoming Android security bulletin, though Android partners can take action sooner by referencing the public patch Qualcomm has provided. Exploitation of these issues depends on users also downloading and installing a malicious application. Our Verify Apps and SafetyNet protections help identify, block, and remove applications that exploit vulnerabilities like these.

Free Hulu is gone, long live paid Hulu.

If you watched a few flicks on Hulu's free tier, said service is done. Sad trombone. All is not entirely lost though, some of the free content is moving to Yahoo.

As a cord-cutter and paying customer, Hulu's paid service is how I consume most of my TV. This decision really doesn't bother me if it allows them to improve their services.

Apple to launch Apple Watch 2 later this year, faster processor, GPS, less suck

Well, I'm not so sure about the last one there, but it's no secret that the current Apple Watch looks like a kids toy, has a kids toy like interface, and is horribly slow. Hopefully Apple comes back from their failure with a worthy successor this time around. Apple generally makes nice hardware, so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt here. My fingers are crossed for you Apple fans.

I think Google+ Collections were a turning point for the platform and hope they continue to be expanded upon as time goes on. Nice work Google+ Team ;)

Why Collections?
We on the Google+ team often get asked why are you making this or that change? What's the thinking behind product changes/features. To that end, thought I'd share my perspective on why Collections?...

Collections allows people to organize what they publish into multiple topics. These topics can be followed or unfollowed. This:

* helps readers to get more content with control they don’t have when just following people. many other social sites are "all or nothing" when it comes to following people.

* frees up content creators to publish more and not worry about overloading followers. we often hear concerns about "spamming my followers" with posts they might consider irrelevant.

* encourages content creators to post across multiple interests instead of focusing only on one topic. i.e. don't just have to be the "deep sea photography person"

* gives content creators archiving abilities they long for. many publish as personal catalogs/journals and for recovery (get back to my content) reasons.

* content creators bemoan all their content disappearing "into the stream”, collections provide a way to give their posts re-newed life and permanence.

Hope that gives some sense of the thinking behind the Collections feature. Thanks~___I think Google+ Collections were a turning point for the platform and hope they continue to be expanded upon as time goes on. Nice work Google+ Team ;)

If you have Action Launcher (hell, even if you don't) you'll love these Nougat style changes.

I've released a beta of Action Launcher 3.9 which integrates many of the heavily rumored Nougat launcher's features.

3.9-beta 1 change log:
• Alpha integration of Nougat's rumored revamped All Apps. Swipe up on the dock to reveal All Apps, or continue to use your existing All Apps shortcut. Must be enabled via Settings -> App drawers -> Nougat style (Alpha).
• Add caret (^) page indicator ("Nougat style (Alpha)" option must be enabled).
• Add tinted dock plate ("Nougat style (Alpha)" option must be enabled).
• Add combined Google "pill" and date widget.
• Add Google "pill" as standalone widget.
• Add date widget.

Note: 3.9 won't be releasing for a while yet (> 2 weeks at least), but given the hooplah around the rumored Nougat launcher*, I decided to buck with tradition and release an incremental beta here.

Mini-FAQ:
• "The styling/positioning of items in the All Apps search box is a little off": I know. I will fix in coming betas. There's only so much I can do in 2 and a bit days.
• "Will you add Nougat launcher's folder types?": At some point, yes. Sidenote: Action 3's Covers are better than folders 😎

Install Action Launcher 3 and/or sign up to the beta via the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.actionlauncher.playstore&hl=en___If you have Action Launcher (hell, even if you don't) you'll love these Nougat style changes.

Elon Musk: “What we’ve got will blow people’s minds, it blows my mind …it’ll come sooner than people think.”

I can't wait to live in this future, a safer future.

That said, we have some morons out there that are abusing Tesla's current Auto-Pilot, which is nothing more than advanced lane assist and advanced cruise control. It's not autonomous driving, yet.

Today I received a phone all from one of my best friends, he's a truck driver. He said he just got done watching a Model S driving itself down the road while the guy in the driver's seat had the seat reclined and both of his hands on his smartphone, reading or playing a game. That's just dumb and it's improper use of the current technology.

Anyways, I can't wait to see what Tesla (and Google) has in store for us over the next couple years.
