Threatening Elephant

The threat posed by this elephant to the photographer pales into insignificance when compared to the threat posed by the photographer's species to the elephant population in general.

According to Wikipedia:
Poaching significantly reduced the population of Loxodonta in certain regions during the 20th century. In the ten years preceding an international ban in the trade in ivory in 1990 the African elephant population was more than halved from 1.3 million to around 600,000.[30][31] An example of how the ivory trade causes poaching pressure is in the eastern region of Chad. There, the estimated elephant population was 400,000 as recently as 1970, but by 2006 the number had dwindled to about 10,000.

The White Stork is a carnivore and eats a range of animal prey, including insects, fish, amphibians, reptiles, small mammals and small birds. It takes most of its food from the ground, among low vegetation, and from shallow water.

(Pterocles bicinctus)

A species of ground living bird in the Pteroclididae family. It is found in arid parts of southern Africa.

I was lucky to spot this pair - they were almost invisible in the high grass and against the stoney ground.
