Bill and Ammon's Bogus Hangout166Bill and Ammon ( +106515636986325493284  and +113426828273677356184   ) reprise their role as the "Wyld Stallyns" of SEO, with bodacious babe +101280116286631896187 helping wrangle comments, and stop them chasing squirrels.  (okay, a more realistic goal: prevent them chasing too many squirrels). About *Bill and Ammon's Bogus Hangout* This is not a polished, planned and scripted event.  This is a casual hangout with old friends and new, shared with all.  Somewhere around the halfway point, we'll post the link for anyone who wishes to come and join us (space permitting) allowing us to meet even more old and new friends. The idea of pre-planning, a set topic, or even simply knowing who will be on the show this week?  All totally *bogus*. Free Air-Guitars to all attendees (exact model and colour may vary with imagination) Our *uninvited invitations* haven't gone out this time, as (frankly) we are really bad at planning and organizing.  However, that just means more open seats right from the start, right?     As ever, we'll open up the invitations to all for any empty seats once the hangout has begun. We have no idea yet who will actually turn up, and that's how we like it.   Excellent! #BeExcellent   #bogushangout  Bill and Ammon's Bogus Hangout2015-03-24 21:00:0015

SEO Training Dojo6,604Borne from a recent conversation the members were having, we wanted to dig deeper into what exactly an influencer is and how authority might play into things with Google and other search engines.  As @110330812816817108887 asked.... "What is an Influencer? I'm seeing this term abused and defined as the number of followers that one has. I personally feel an Influencer is something more than that but is that what the search engines believe?" Then @113029961823986738300 added... "Knowing what tools are out there to better analyze (and source) influencers is a good takeaway. (OK - if you do that without mentioning my tool, then I'd be a bit sad... Topical Trust Flow laid over Twitter URLs is pretty powerful) but other metrics like "Tweet Engagement" would be good to see tracked... and I don't mean re-tweets. A great Tweet is one which creates multiple people DISCUSSING the tweet content, not just linking to it. The problem I am seeing as I look through Twitter streatms is that everyone is Tweeting or re-tweeting links... nobody is debating or engaging with them." So we thought it would be a great topic to cover... Be sure to join us. Friday SEO Chat; authority and influence2015-01-23 19:00:0024
Ammon Johns & Company277Last week veteran Internet Marketing Consultant @113426828273677356184  #Ammonized  the business of guest client @113040303166028202450 in an hour of *live* #ammonize  consulting.  That means that this week we do the 'deep dive' into some of the advice and issues that arose in that session and follow up on the audience questions. Among the many points discussed last week: > Pushing the most scalable services first. > Have an outsource ready for contingency. > Make the offering clear and customer focused. > Reduce Plug-in and Scripts > Ensure clear, objective-focused Navigation. > Third-party Advertising. > Duplicate content and generic META descriptions. > Embedded Scripts and CSS Styles. > Testimonials, make them *all* easy to find. > Case Studies (for proof of the offer). > Trade secrets and how *not* to give away the farm. > Build a lean, mean, selling-machine. Ammon Johns & Company277This week we were originally scheduled to   #Ammonize  the business of @102208357712681692223 with live marketing consulting.  However, due to some changes in her business, a website redevelopment that isn't complete, and a revamp generally, Rayne does not feel ready for this show at this time.  We'll reschedule with Rayne in the New Year. I have been absolutely delighted however to bring forward my session with @113452775269610887036 of www.hammys.net a craftsman who's work absolutely delights me.  Whether it is furniture that embodies art, or art that can be used as furniture, I can't quite decide, but I certainly know I absolutely love his work. Brett was introduced to me by @109237790792840071389 as they have been networking in real life for a while.  At the time, Brett wasn't active on G+ but between the encouragement of Scott, and the offer of my show, I'm delighted that Brett has embraced the platform and can join us this week. Join @113426828273677356184 @105475484427213195749 and client @113452775269610887036 this week for what promises to be another powerful and passionate show of real-world marketing.Ammonize - Ep.15: Live Consulting with Brett Hamilton of www.hammys.net2014-11-16 21:00:0041
Ammon Johns & Company277This week we #Ammonize some marketing consultancy for @115872651386906040020. Every case is different, every client unique.  We illustrate that this week with Farinaz who brings with her a very different case indeed. Farinaz is a US Citizen, born in Tehran, Iran, with over 30 years of professional background in healthcare development. She has skills in strategic planning, teaching and competency-based education, performance evaluation, counseling, and quality improvement.   Years of experience in international health working with the World Health Organization in South East and South Asia as a consultant and project leader, and with Project HOPE of Washington D.C. as program director for child survival projects. Farinaz has had clinical and teaching positions in colleges and universities in the U.S. She currently does volunteer work as a mentor for Women’s Foundation in Phoenix, AZ.  She is a writer and blogger. On top of all of that, she's a mother of two, (son and daughter).  She has mostly lived in California but presently lives in Arizona. For regular viewers of this show, you probably notice that's the most detailed background I've ever given to a client.  That's partly to contrast with the fact that what we are going to discuss is a lot more tenuous. Farinaz knows that her future plans include improving her blog, writing a book, and developing professional counselling services.  However, my feeling is that this is precisely where my guidance is required.  To help refine general aims into something more structured, and to add in any extra opportunities that fit. As ever, @105475484427213195749 is on hand as the Technical Assistant.Ammonize: The Series2014-11-02 21:00:0043
Ammon Johns & Company277This week we follow-up on last week's  #Ammonize   consultancy for @100783494986717553112 of ActationNow.com (after an appointment swap between Zara and @113040303166028202450). If you watched last week for the consulting session, you'll know we have something extra-special this week.  @100783494986717553112 will be joining me live at my home for this week's show. However, @105475484427213195749 as my ever-faithful Technical Assistant will be joining us remotely, having refused to leave the sunny sanctuary of glamorous King's Cross, London. This show is actually a first.  I've travelled all over to visit clients, staying in hotels the night before when necessary for a morning meeting I couldn't possibly reach in time otherwise.  When working with agencies, I've also had clients come to our offices for briefings and meetings.  But I've never had a client come to visit me at home until now. This show is at 8pm GMT (UK daylight Savings have ended). Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEPhQMA0sLA Ammonize: The Series2014-10-26 21:00:0035
Ammon Johns & Company277This week we #Ammonize  the business of @100783494986717553112 of actationnow.com  Zara is very much a woman of the world.  Well travelled with wide ranging interests and a passion for the arts and literature.  Her biography so far would make for a fascinating and riveting read.  However, what we are here for today is to help her write the next chapter. We are not making it easy on Zara, because this has been such a fraught and frantic week that I've not had my usual chance to take a detailed brief from Zara on precisely what she'd like to discuss.  My sincere apologies to Zara for this, but, that makes it even more fun for those watching no doubt. This is as raw and real as consulting can get, with absolutely no preparation, and simply relying on what will happen during the hour. Join @100783494986717553112 today as she meets @113426828273677356184 and trusty technical assistant @105475484427213195749 to get #Ammonized   The sharp-eyed may notice that this is a change to the original schedule, where @113040303166028202450 was due to be a guest client this week.  Well, Meloney has swapped places with Zara and so will be getting #Ammonized later in the year. Ammon Johns & Company277*Live Consulting* for @101696764219780312734 of themiaconnect.com  This is a *Live Consulting* week, and we'll be providing consultancy to @101696764219780312734 in talking about @109324423871490315778, about brand and mission, about HOAs and live broadcasting hosting as a career/profession. That may sound like a very broad spectrum, but it all ties together for anyone that knows Mia.  We'll talk about that tricky balancing act between personal beliefs and causes, and creating a personal brand that can attract sponsors.  We won't be discussing much of Mia's current sponsors and business.  The strongest point of HOAs right now is how low the barrier to entry is.  A low barrier to entry creates ever rising competition, and while quality expectations are still low (for now), preventing sponsors and others from great discernment, discussing Mia's current sponsors and revenue would not be in her best interests. We will, however, be looking at future revenue and business goals, and especially in looking at where the money is, by looking at where the long-term value is. Most especially, we'll be talking about how and why businesses 'buy in' to video marketing and live streaming, how to position for that, and where we should all be looking for the full ROI on live-streaming. If we _really_ dive down the rabbit-hole, we might even talk about how success on YouTube could translate into commercial broadcasting on TV... I am joined by my 'guest expert', @109237790792840071389 who has many years of experience in broadcasting that goes way beyond G+.  I hardly need to mention Scott's immense experience with editing and repurposing recorded HOAs either for @117212773917417497594  As ever, my Technical Assistant, @105475484427213195749 will be on hand as well. If that all sounds like a show you don't want to miss, then be sure to tune in live, or on replay. Ammon Johns & Company277In this show we follow-up on the live consulting show with Dr @112697555988864915254 and my Technical Assistant for these shows, @105475484427213195749. @112108936504796636157 can't join us this week, as it is her wedding anniversary, and while there may be wi-fi at the hotel, its not _exactly_ how you plan to use the hotel room on a getaway wedding anniversary.  We'll miss you, Amy, but family first. I think that one of the core features of the consultation last week was talking about a *content strategy* as a means of achieving several vital business goals.  Thus one of the deep-dive topics this week will be in content marketing and content strategy. We'll look at the ability of content marketing to appeal to several different forms of audience, such as appealing to people to talk about and raise general brand/product awareness, and also appealing to potential customers to drive actual sales.  In many cases, these are likely to be different pieces and styles of content.  A 'one size fits all' approach to creating content to drive different goals simply never works out as well, if at all. @109237790792840071389 asked us to discuss some of the issues around posting frequencies, lengths, etc. so we'll certainly be talking about types of content, and how they work, within the overall framework of the content strategy. Naturally, we'll also touch on how the SEO strategies play into the content strategy, and how we use keywords as a sign of market demand to help us focus and frame the content we should be creating. Ammon Johns & Company277*Live Consulting* for Dr.V, @112697555988864915254  with special Guest Expert @112108936504796636157  You know, some would (and might) be critical of me for consulting for friends on this show, but so many of my clients are friends.  If not before I help them, most consider me a friend afterward.  But for me its even simpler than that.  I like being able to help my friends.  If my skills were not useful to help them, how on earth should I consider them valuable enough to ask strangers to pay for? :o) So, yes, I consider @112697555988864915254 a friend, and it doesn't deter me in the least from also accepting him as a client.  It simply adds another level of reward and pleasure to being able to help him. I dare say that Christopher needs no introduction to my G+ audience, but I'll provide one for those tuning in for the first time.  Christopher is a medically trained Harvard man who met some fascinating people while there.  He has a playful mind, quick wit, and a sense of fun. Those qualities play into his next major career with Epic Win Systems ( http://www.epicwinsystems.com/ ) a company geared entirely around fun and engagement as tools to persuade, captivate, and attract customers and engagement. Christopher has been bootstrapping the business in the sense that so far all of the investment has come from his own accounts, but the investment has not been insignificant. We are joined additionally this week by my guest @112108936504796636157 who knows more than a thing or two about fun and engagement. Tune in this week to learn more about his fascinating business, the challenges that he faces, and the way that I advise to proceed.  Plus, naturally, a lot of insight into how fun and game elements all play into engagement for an #EpicWin   I shall be joined once again by my glamorous Technical Assistant, @105475484427213195749  Links: G+ HOA Event: https://plus.google.com/events/crkrmoqvsb89nibo0qdokel62ao  YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5On33XnrlTw  To Be Notified: https://plus.google.com/+Ammonjohns/posts/gDCzcbm4r1W Subscribe to channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGmzis0TxypGIABQ8e64noA/feedAmmonize - Ep.7: Live Consulting for Christopher Vogelmann2014-09-21 21:00:0080
Ammon Johns & Company277Last week ( http://goo.gl/3kz5at ) we got to   #ammonize  Mindful360, the (literal) Brain-child of @101146817884405744944 and @118176779352783168766 which was a rich and diverse journey across all things marketing, from selecting most profitable markets, through tailoring offerings for specific markets, on to the nitty-gritty of ecommerce. That means that this week we get to dive down into the background behind the advice, and deeper into the specifics, and answer any audience questions. One of those questions that we'll dive a little deeper into this week is on the topic of what to give away for free, what to discount, and how to know?  This question came from both clients and audience alike at various points last week, and certainly is a common issue that merits the deep dive. Please join @105475484427213195749, @101146817884405744944, @118176779352783168766 and I  for this discussion, and feel free to invite friends that you feel would find the matter useful to their own businesses. Ammon Johns & Company277Its *Live Consulting* week again, and time to #ammonize  @101146817884405744944's business and marketing.  Craig is of course a business partner to @118176779352783168766 who is also invited to the show once more.  Naturally, my Technical Assistant, @105475484427213195749 will be on hand as usual.   This should be an absolutely fascinating case, and one of the things we'll be illustrating is how to #Ammonize  a very complex service.  In our pre-show brief, Craig told me that coming up with an 'elevator pitch' for their business has been exceptionally challenging (and so far, elusive). Just a few of the challenges we'll be discussing and resolving are: - Presenting complex offerings in meaningful and attractive ways. i.e. how to effectively 'package' complex products in a way that is interesting and attractive at a glance. - How to take intangible 'soft' benefits such as wellness, understanding, empathy, and tie them to more measurable, 'hard' benefits such as measurably improved performance, increased productivity, and cost reduction. - We'll touch on the confusion of free personality tests and how this may confuse many customers as to the difference between those generic 'horoscope' type tests, and the genuine scientific measurement based testing of a certified psychometrician.  (It's like the difference between a homeopathic offering and a licensed chemist). However, for the rest of the details, well, you'll have to be mindful to stay tuned for updates...Ammonize - Ep.5: Consulting with Craig Calvert2014-09-07 21:00:0041
Ammon Johns & Company277In last-week's show, #Ammonize got into the world of Food and Wine Blogging with @109499407181545454680 ( http://goo.gl/xkIXjQ ) and @113426828273677356184 was joined by Technical Assistant @105475484427213195749 and by Guest Expert @100034828195835575273  (All of the above persons are again openly invited to the show, along with invitations to @113055030863291439319 and @100948891249021511115.)  We learned that Maggie had been wisely using a variety of revenue streams, not only directly through the blog, but also using her experience to provide services to others. We determined that the most scaleable part of her business was naturally the blogging (and related activity that created content for the blog).  Simply put, an hour of time invested in a service pays for an hour of your time, while an hour of time invested in the blog can keep providing income for as long as the resulting content gains visitors. One of the big lessons of the show was about *re-purposing* all forms of content and activity.  Spend some hours creating a form of content, and then re-package and re-purpose it to suit other markets and customers, so that each piece can become six different products. In this follow-up discussion we'll dive deeper into the topic of re-purposing, including ways to be mindful of many uses when you create the original work. (Make it easier to re-use). I'll talk in more detail about re-purposing video, including how to deal with panelists and permissions (h/t @109035371848912884050 ) so I'd love if @109237790792840071389  was free to join us, and will also ping @105271135735494528442 too. I'll give detail on why I would not recommend using Helpouts for this, at least as they work so far. (h/t @112373812865219541353) I'll talk a bit more about how to use keyword research as a method for gauging demand, and how we check the existing supply to spot opportunity. We'll also talk a little more about running events or training/workshops as a viable revenue stream to sell your skills and knowledge efficiently. We'll also try to pack in some time to discuss some of the issues around moving from a sole-entrepreneur into using outsourcing and teams so that you can focus on the areas where your time investment yields the highest return, and pay for others to do the work that offers the lowest return per hour.   Live Event page: http://goo.gl/ovSFMi  Youtube link: http://goo.gl/izyz2F  Main Comments: http://goo.gl/ovSFMi Ammonize - Ep.4: The Analysis Part - MamaMaggie2014-08-31 21:00:0056

ISOOSI Research Engine3,515*The Lifestyle Business* with @117590169633617507930 on #isoosichat   One of the fascinating trends of recent years is that of people leaving the 'Rat Race' of climbing the corporate ladder, and equally turning away from the traditional entrepreneurial alternative of pouring one's every waking moment into building a personal business empire.  Instead, we see more and more individual choosing a "lifestyle business". Don't make the mistake of thinking that if you have a traditional business, this topic has no relevance to you.  The real fact today is that the 'Lifestyle Business' is your biggest rival for attracting and retaining good employees.  No matter who you are in business, and no matter your own models, you *need* to understand the Lifestyle Business and how it affects your market, and your workforce. In this week's ISOOSI Tuesday Chat, we'll explain what a lifestyle business is, how it works, why it is such a growing trend, and how this impacts other business models at all levels. We'll have plenty of tips for those who want to develop their own lifestyle business to free up more personal time for friends, family and activities outside of work.  We'll talk about distractions, marketing, and all sorts of issues. As always, we love to have your comments too, so please join us and participate in the discussion with @117590169633617507930 @113426828273677356184  @106515636986325493284 and @116843668885160648294  #lifestylebusiness   #marketing   #entrepreneur   Links: G+ Hangout Event:  Youtube version:  Main Comment Discussion: ISOOSIchat: The Lifestyle Business2014-08-26 21:00:0047
Sandra Watson1,944*Content Marketing - The Rhythm of Comedy* *Preparation for this show – watch the video to the left!* Really you said, rhythm and comedy in content!  I know, it seems a little off the wall.  But my co-host @103199578795495006329  summed it up brilliantly while we were talking about this show.  He said... "think of a train leaving the station"... 1. There is the start-up mode when the engine is warming up.  There is a slight humming as data  is gathered and analyzed 2. Soon, all systems are “go” and the engineer feels confident that he has everything he needs to compete the mission  3. The wheels start turning, faster and faster - the spinning of the wheels create a rhythm of their own 4. Pretty soon the engineer can feel the music and it becomes a part of him 5. He can feel the pace of the rhythm change with each slow down, stop or course correction Good content can create and achieve the same experience.  The audience can feel it, they can hear it and they become one with it!  Using comedy in content marketing can create a rhythm of fun and expectation - something that makes you chuckle or laugh and is memorable.  Just like a great song! You FEEL the rhythm!  Now it's time to introduce @112108936504796636157.   She has been using humor in her content marketing for quite a while now. (And she's good at it!)  I won’t try to explain how she does it but encourage you to click here to see an example before the show!  (She readily admits she’s not a scientist!)  http://goo.gl/m2idke If you want to know how to create content that makes them want more and where they can hardly wait to see your “stuff” again and again…you won’t want to miss this time with my co-host @103199578795495006329 , me and @112108936504796636157 as we explore what makes content marketing go from boring to a fascinating rhythm using comedy! Seriously, you should watch this hangout! See you soon!Content Marketing - The Rhythm of Comedy2014-08-26 17:00:0038

ISOOSI Research Engine3,515This week will be the first of a monthly show where the #ISOOSIChat  panel regulars will be reviewing websites that the audience submit for  review. Unfortunately @106515636986325493284 will not be with us this week but will return next week. Still there will be two or more doctor in the clinic ready to assess websites that are submitted to us to review / critique.  Our aim is to give you recommendations for your site not only from an SEO perspective but also from a UI / UX and branding perspective too. As we have always stated on our #ISOOSIChat  shows - we look at marketing on the web the same as we do offline... you need to look at it from a holistic and integrated way. We will not touch on the offering itself or the viability of your business model, moreso just the execution of the website. Quite often we can spot low hanging fruit that you'd be able to change pretty quickly that may help in your efforts to obtain greater exposure on the web. There may also be additional tactics / strategies you haven't employed that we can discuss with you. If you want us to review your website this Tuesday, please let us know on the event thread. Or, you message @112430199625001815612 beforehand to ask questions about the process.  Obviously to get the most benefit from the show - we'd be discussing your website and giving YOU tips on how to improve it.... SO - Don't be scared of having our panel HELP YOU. Remember - the comments will be constructive and designed to help you in the best possible way.  For audience members that want their websites reviewed - we'd love it if you were live with us on the Hangout so please see if you can have your webcam ready too. If no sites are submitted we will dissect other websites of prospects that have approached our agency this past week.  Join @113426828273677356184 @112430199625001815612 and @112297740908382826372 this Tuesday (19th August 2014) at 12pm PDT // 3pm EDT // 8pm GMTAudience Website Review2014-08-19 21:00:0037
Ammon Johns & Company277Following the remarkable successful Pilot Show on Saturday 9th August, this show tests out the other half of the new format.  In this show, we'll be digging in to any questions or specific areas of interest that arose in the previous consulting episode.  It gives me the opportunity to explain some of the ways I may balance out various options that could conflict, and thus why I may recommend one course of action over another.  In short, it allows me to explain some of the thought process behind some decisions and suggestions in a lot more detail. The delightful @104267556228949747305 is invited back again, of course, in case you have any further questions about the finance options and issues discussed last week, and because, lets face it, any excuse to invite Stephanie on to a show should be taken, right? You'll also get a chance to meet the show's new "Technical Assistant", @105475484427213195749, a highly valuable addition to the show.  My 'Techie' will be helping run some background checks on future guests sites and market when useful, and will also be helping wrangle the comments, ensuring the best possible flow of targeted information to you, watching the show and generously adding your comments. Since not too many questions seem to have arisen so far about the Pilot Show and the first open consultancy, I will be inviting several familiar friends onto this show, and taking a bit of an "Ask me anything" approach. @106515636986325493284 is a long time friend and associate, ever since 2002 when we were both administrators of a forum that grew to be highly respected - Cre8asiteForums @112697555988864915254 is one of the few people who is capable of making even me groan with some of his puns.  His mere presence gets us closer to scoring an #EpicWin   @118176779352783168766 takes 'mindfulness' to a whole different level, both in his work at Mindful360, but also in the appearances and conversations in hangouts we've shared. @107024462526027907806 has been such a strong help and suport in getting this show going, and encouraging its development, this panel wouldn't have felt complete without him. Thank you for your continued support, both live and in replay.  I hope you'll find time to catch this show too, and help me polish up the format even more.Ammonize - The After-Show Show2014-08-17 21:00:0066

SEO Training Dojo6,604This week our special guest will be @106515636986325493284 who will be talking about 'Entity Audits'. Not sure what that is? Here's a teaser from Bill; "Before Google announced their Knowledge Base with their words about indexing things instead of strings, I was already working to make web pages "about" Something. We are seeing knowledge panels and rich snippets and sitelinks in search results. Special OneBoxes are also appearing more quickly. In response to those, we've been doing Entity audits for sites, where we look at entities that already appear on sites, and ones that maybe should appear but don't. We've been looking at what shows up when the name of a site, and the domain name for a site are searched for in terms of knowledge panels, related entities, sitelinks,  at the search engines. We're looking at what appears for these at places such as Wikipedia and Freebase an other knowledge bases. I have a couple of examples that I would like to share of how doing an entity audit can make a site richer, and potentially show up for more searches, including some changes on a site from 2005 that set me off on this path. :)"Friday SEO Chat - Entity Audits2014-08-15 19:00:0037

ISOOSI Research Engine3,515*Keeping Up with the Googles*  "Life moves pretty fast.  If you don't take time to look around once in a while, you could miss it" ~ Ferris Bueller Life seems pretty slow-paced compared to Google.  You don't notice all of the tweaks and changes, experimental or more permanent, but Google make more updates a year than there are days in the year.  So roughly every day at least something new is going on.  Often several new things at once. So this week we are taking the time to look around and talk about some of the many recent updates you may want to know about, (and probably a few of the ones you wish you didn't need to know about). There have been massive changes in Local search on Google, and with Localized results appearing in virtually everything, that affects Google almost across the board.  Then there's all the talk about 'Pigeon' - the name some SEOs have adopted for the most recent of the large updates. ISOOSI Research Engine3,515*Aligning Core Values with Business Networking* with @102000982871890720967,  @115620878851836664537, & @118176779352783168766.   This week, the ISOOSI Tuesday Marketing Chat (aka #isoosichat ) is tackling an especially deep topic.  We have mentioned in some previous shows that Social Networking is often difficult for business, (small or large), when the business has no real personality of its own.   In fact, other forms of networking can be just as hard when it is the business itself that is front and center, rather than all down to a charming and personable representative. The thing is that most businesses struggle to create or maintain a 'persona' for their business.  Its not just that it is hard to know how to create one, it is the fact that your company then needs to embody it and abide by it in all dealings, from customer service to long-term direction. Enter the #isoosichat  panel to help you understand the issues, the pitfalls, the opportunities, and the actions you can take. @118176779352783168766 has described himself as "a psychiatrically trained neuroscientist with a fetish for personality and persuasion science".  He's been exploring wonderful ways of identifying your personality type to better align your core values and competencies with the way you approach marketing and business.  You know he's smart and honest by how quickly he diagnosed @113426828273677356184 with having "a scarey mind"! @115620878851836664537 returns to the show for a much anticipated second visit.  He's fascinated by semantic signals in search and social marketing, and will be helping us determine how to apply a better understanding of personas and their core values into creating more meaningful (and successful) connections. As always, expect an hour of interesting insights and perceptions that can give you both the 'big picture' and the actionable ideas on subjects that are deeply thoughtful yet made entirely accessible. Our Guests this week are incredibly knowledgeable and talented in this space. @109237790792840071389 is famed for giving "The Scott Treatment" - Reviving, Re-packaging and Re-purposing great content with an emphasis on video and HOAs.  Among other clients, he works on doing his thing for Stonetemple's excellent video/HOA strategy. @110256277832745362774 of @105271135735494528442 is very knowledgable in this space.  Not only does he produce a range of video marketing production services for clients, he also experiments extensively with what can be done on a given platform. This week's panel will be discussing the power of video for marketing in all its aspects.  Obviously we are fans, as the weekly shows prove.  But there's a lot more to video marketing than just hangouts and live streaming. For one thing, YouTube has a massive user-base, and a search traffic all of its own, which you are not able to tap at all without some kind of video offering.  Unlike other search engines, people searching on YouTube often continue to browse through results for a long time, and not only choose one answer to their search. Google also tries to offer diverse media in every search result, meaning that some video or other is almost always in the first page of search results, but often selected from a much, much smaller pool of related content. Then there's the fact that video is one of the best forms of cross-platform content for social network platforms.  There is absolutely no better way to get a complex message onto twitter, for instance, given the character limits.  But remember also that while you have to vary the length of snippets for each platform, almost all allow a youtube video to be embedded right into the stream.  Its the one post that can work exactly the same on Facebook, Twitter, and G+ too. Even in the small details, video offers some great advantages.  With watermarking, lower-third graphical overlays, and similar in-picture branding, it is a lot harder for someone to simply copy and paste your work as their own. In the course of the show, we'll discuss what sort of investment is needed for professional looking video, how to determine the right kind of video content for your needs, and many insights into how to maximize the results of video marketing.ISOOSIchat: Video Marketing2014-07-29 21:00:00217

ISOOSI Research Engine3,515The #isoosichat  weekly Marketing Discussion hangout with special guest @101051299964721802972 joining the regular panel of @113426828273677356184 @106515636986325493284 and @116843668885160648294  *Wishing SEO dead* The articles and stories proclaiming that "SEO is dead" have been a regular occurrence for so long that they are an in-joke in the industry.  While such articles can be easy to laugh off, many feel that they are just one sign of several that the reputation problems for SEO are at critical levels. @101051299964721802972 describes himself as: " involved in the SEO field since the days of the dinosaurs" which puts him right alongside @113426828273677356184 as one of those rare 'Living Relics' of the industry who manage to stay completely relevant despite all the changes. @106515636986325493284 has been around almost as long too, but people *like* Bill too much to keep pointing out his age. We asked all three of these luminaries about their marketing plans for the rest of 2014 and none of them had "to be dead" on the list.  Obviously, this makes them a perfect panel for discussing the long running death wishes against SEO, the many attempts to create standards, and other reputation issues of Search Marketing. Join us as we examine just why SEO is perceived to have such a terrible reputation.  Why are 'standards' and 'regulation' so often asked for, yet also derided, suspect, and unacceptable? ISOOSI Research Engine3,515*Beyond Keywords: Moving From Words to Concepts* with @106047677625673572381 and @100239741564140295819  We all know that keywords are generally not quite as 'key' as they used to be.  Google's Hummingbird update has lead to us all noticing a lot more semantic matching to the concepts we search for, rather than the precise wording.  This week, #isoosichat  will discuss this shift in more detail, and explore how we deal with these changes. @106047677625673572381 is fascinated by the semantic connections in words and language.  He'll be helping us look at the broader and sometimes less obvious connections between words and concepts. @100239741564140295819 returns again, always a welcome guest, Doc has said before that he's long moved away from the old method of using keywords into far more diverse and natural language writing around the concept. With the help of these guests, and @106515636986325493284's incredible knowledge of the papers and patents of the search engines, we'll look at where the 'best practices' of today should be, and talk about ways to better appeal to semantic search algorithms. We'll also discuss places where keywords (in the old sense of them) still matter, and why. Places where exact matching of terms is important. ISOOSI Research Engine3,515*Resistance to SEO - when professions collide* with @117465476555941682843  and @111081752713318683929   In this show, we look at how and why some professionals, including bloggers, Usability types, web devs, and sales copywriters, have a negative and dismissive view of SEO.  Despite the success stories, and the huge demand for SEO generally across the board, the negative reputation in many places is still very apparent, with SEO professionals often still treated as though peddling snake-oil to the gullible. @117465476555941682843  has said "Coming from a PR/Marketing background since way back, I've always felt true content was king. Never been a fan of working SEO. I'm in the dismissive corner due to watching the negative affect "SEO professionals" have caused clients and others. I've worked hard in the past with clients to undo the damage by the snake oil types. Has left a bad taste in my mouth." She's not alone. It is all too easy for SEO professionals inside 'the echo chamber' to hear primarily only from people who understand SEO and believe in it.  In the wider world, a great many people who have strong input on websites are quite dismissive of SEO, having primarily seen only the kind that appears in a million spam emails. @111081752713318683929 suggested the topic for this week, as she has close ties to the SEO world, but also gets to see the views that some other copywriters have about SEO. There are still a great many bloggers, for just one example, who think SEO is an unnecessary measure - you just create good articles and content and Google will figure it all out.  Others have read a few too many of the "SEO in 10 easy steps" articles who think that those ten steps are all there is.  No matter that around 80% of the websites hit by the Panda update were blogs and bloggers...  It isn't just one-sided either.  There are many SEOs of varying skill levels who are dismissive of all the other facets of successful web ventures.  SEOs who mistakenly put an importance on rankings ahead of usability, or conversions - leading to a site that gets lots of people to see how much it sucks.  Heck, even very experienced SEOs sometimes make very dismissive or even disparaging remarks about social media specialist, for example. The fact is, marketing online is still marketing, and requires many diverse approaches all come together in a unified and integrated campaign.  Increasingly, it will also need to integrate with the offline marketing too. In this frank and open discussion we aim to discuss the genuine bad experiences and views that give SEO a poor reputation to those who've not seen it done well.  We explore how people can identify the good SEO practices from the poor majority, and we may even be able to explore ways in which the reputation of SEO can be improved. Whatever the outcome, you know you can rely on #isoosichat  to deliver a lot of fresh ideas to think about, some practical advice on how SEOs can better get along with other maResistance to SEO - When Professions Collide2014-06-10 21:00:00195

ISOOSI Research Engine3,515In the latest installment of the weekly ISOOSI Tuesday Chat we are joined by @103682117587904833322 - a true veteran of Internet Marketing.  Together, we shall discuss and explore ways to attract those all-important links and citations to a site or venture that is not yet famed or renowned. *How Do You Attract Links _Before_  You Have Reputation?* Years ago, @116884753591158922581 (another true veteran marketer) wrote a superb article entitled "The Filthy Linking Rich", where he explained how the same sort of *power law* that applies to other resources, such as wealth, apply just as much to links.  Just as the rich get richer, so do those with lots of links get more exposure, and thus attract more links. We'll discuss that power law briefly, but mainly we'll focus on how to overcome it.  How do we attract links to a site that is newer, or has so far been seen as less authoritative (its cited less often)? This topic naturally follows from last week where we discussed Starting New Online Ventures, and has a strong relationship to getting that new venture up and running.  As always, expect some wonderful food for thought, and many practical insights. ISOOSI Research Engine3,515Ep 25: In this weeks ISOOSI Chat we will be joined by a very special panel - some of our beloved viewers and commentators - to talk about *Starting New Online Ventures* In recent weeks we'd noticed several audience comments indicating they were planning, working on, or starting their own websites, blogs and general online ventures.  We absolutely love that.  The whole reason for these #isoosichat  shows is to show and spread our passion for all things related to online marketing.  So naturally, we thought it would be a wonderful time to have a show about how to get started. Our wonderful panel at the Marketing Roundtable this week includes:  @101280116286631896187, @116223077903214390102 and @100860818239902042246, 3 lovely people whom many of you will know from several top hangout audiences, all joining the @116843668885160648294    #isoosichat regulars @113426828273677356184, @106515636986325493284, @112430199625001815612 and @112297740908382826372 Among the questions our panel will be throwing into the ring, we'll be discussing all of the basics like: > Identifying and scoping your potential market > How to research customers and build up customer profiles > How small is a 'minimal viable' start? > How to gain traction and momentum from scratch. The lessons don't just apply to starting your first blog for either brand or income, as many of these are about the marketing processes and decision that affect and size and scale of new venture, from a first blog to a 15th ecommerce business. Likewise, those of our regular viewers already comfortable with starting up new ventures, please don't feel like this isn't a show you need.  We'd really love for you to share your own hard won lessons and experiences in the comments throughout the event. I think this is a great way to show this 'collaboration' thing, and the community spirit, that we so often talk about on G+. Join us, live, or leave any burning questions, however great or small in the comments, and help us out.Starting New Online Ventures2014-05-13 21:00:0065

Jim Munro18,083*Why I think TechCrunch nailed it.* I think Techcrunch is the pits, gutter journalism, but I also think Alexia Totsis was accidentally right when she diagnosed G+ as terminal. With only her deep throat's information to go on she would not have had enough to make such a huge call. She should have waited to make a careful analysis but that's not how techCrunch operates. I think what's happened since has borne out her wild guess though. She could not have known that Larry Page and Dave Besbris were about to go radio silent apart from a few feelgood and pr posts. The guy who said only two or three years ago "Google is Google+" or vice-versa, has now said in his farewell to Vic Gundotra, "In the meantime we’ll continue working hard to build great new experiences for the ever increasing number of Google+ fans."  Sorry Larry but I come to G+ to hear from and learn from my friends as well as find a sounding board for my own opinions. I am not a "fan" and a "great new experience" for me would be a page that loads completely in a reasonable time.  Vic Gundotra might as well have said that he'd grown tired of swimming up the waterfall. The new guard does not see G+ as a means of communication. It's clear that they see us as "fans" to be distracted by sparkly things. If they'd wanted to communicate and talk sense to their users, they would have done so by now. Google just failed the test of social media. I won't be leaving G+ until it's most valuable core features are withdrawn. Other ancillary features will live on because there's a compelling business case for them but I don't think it will take many years before some management drone sunsets the core functionality of G+. Much current growth has come from android, once Nokia starts taking big chunks of that market, I think it might be time to start looking for the green exit signs. It's no big deal, all that's required at present is to devise the exit strategy that I did not ever think would be needed. We'll be talking about this and other stuff in the Social Media Fridays HOA, starting in a few minutes.Social Media Fridays 2.2014-05-02 08:01:245

SEO Training Dojo6,604It's been a long time since we did a Friday chat so I figured we might as well get it back up and running. As a precursor to next week's SGS show on the same topic, we're likely gonna get into some forensic SEO stuff. That being said, given it's been so long we'll also just hang and talk about all the happenings in the SEO world this year Seats are limited to 10, drop by the event and check in early to get in. Otherwise, it will be live here on G+, so all are welcome to watch and throw questions at the gang I hope to see ya there! SEO Friday Chat - Forensic SEO & Recovery2014-04-25 18:00:0015

ISOOSI Research Engine3,515Ep 21: We are excited to have @115830385992205597318 join our regular Tuesday   #isoosichat  on April 15th with roundtable regulars @113426828273677356184, @106515636986325493284, @112430199625001815612 and @112297740908382826372 Understanding the target audience has always been a key element to successful marketing, however many businesses often forget the importance of it in their online activities. Irrespective of the channel - search, social, video, email - and the content by which you aim to attract them to your offerings, understanding  your target market mix is crucial for success. In this hangout we'll discuss with Mike the subject of online personas and methodologies he has used over the years to help him use these to great effect. We'll discuss the use of user demographic tools and analysis to help build up more accurate data driven representations of market segments... and the ideal customer avatar for your business. Why is this so important? If you know your audience, you then can tailor the content and user experience to suit and subsequently improve the rate of conversion.  Using data to build clear images of segments and personas can transform  your online presence considerably. Not only in terms of reaching the audience more effectively...  but also how you communicate to them when they're "in front" of you. Personalizing the experience, building the trust and improving the chance to persuade and convert!Market Segmentation: Understanding Your Audience with Michael King2014-04-15 21:00:0050

ISOOSI Research Engine3,515Tuesday March 11th we have a great #ISOOSIChat lined up for our audience with our special guests @100575300343443701396 and @108234536208176601636. Alan and David will join our panel regulars @113426828273677356184 @106515636986325493284 and @112430199625001815612 to discuss the subject of search engine penalties. We'll get to know Panda (again) and our old friend Penguin. We'll discuss the differences between algorithmic penalties and manual penalties... and other types of penalties you may have encountered along the way too.  How do you know if your website is under the dark cloud of a penalty? If you are under a penalty what are things you need to do to start the recovery process. Should you use Google's link "Disavow Tool" ?  If so, when...  and are there some best practices that can be highlighted to improve the chances of a manual reconsideration review after submitting a disavow link file. What kind of timeline should you expect for a recovery to occur if those processes are implemented....   and is recovery even a possibility? It can be a very complicated subject for business owners to grasp if they are not immersed in search engine marketing on a daily basis. What also makes it worse is that sometime business owners have found themselves in this situation because of techniques implemented by agencies they had hired to help them.  We'll try to break it down in a simple way to give the viewers who find themselves in this situation the answers and resources they need so they can turn the page.... and start the road to recovery.Pandas, Penguins & Penalties - ISOOSI Tuesday Chat2014-03-11 20:00:0091
ISOOSI Research Engine3,515This week's #isoosichat is looking at a common problem we see for many companies - Thin Content Pages.  The typical scenario is where a company knows it needs to create content for certain search terms, most especially locational searches, but then really struggles to find unique, relevant, meaningful content on those pages. The number of times where I see a company using a dull boilerplate template for their service in [$location], where only the location string is changing from one location page to another, across hundreds or even thousands of pages. In this show the @116843668885160648294 regulars and I will be joined by @106515636986325493284 @108234536208176601636 and @112131405128569338985 to talk about thin content, how to honestly look at your own pages for depth and relevance, and how to target those niche searches with meaty, relevant, and above all, meaningful content.Making Your Thin Content Phat!2014-02-18 21:00:0016
ISOOSI Research Engine3,515@107022061436866576067 joins the ISOOSI chat today at 3pm EST and we're super excited to have him on the show.  Mark has been one of the people for me personally (and I know for many others too) that has really been instrumental in highlighting the benefits of Google+. But, not only the easy pickings that are clear to see. Mark evangelizes the use of Google+ as not only a business network but a social network. A social network that is on a different level to anything else we have on the interwebs. He'll be the first to say that it has given him opportunities that would never have existed before it. And I for one share that experience and couldn't agree more. All businesses can learn from this hangout... and we'll start really with the basics too. We know we have many small businesses that use ISOOSI and list their businesses in our search directory that currently have zero presence on Google+   So, some of what we talk about may be already known to those that are immersed in it on a daily basis.... but through this hangout we hope to join Mark in expressing our belief in the platform and communicate the benefits it can bring to you - from a personal AND business perspective. @112430199625001815612  President, ISOOSIGhost Town or Land of Opportunity - Google+2014-02-11 21:00:0094

Kathi Browne12,581What part do relevance and influence play in getting your healthcare hospital or practice found on the web?  Semantic search is a term that has recently taken on new popularity. It refers to a complicated process of giving contextual meaning and more accurate interpretation to words or phrases people search on. Google has moved toward semantic indexing, so if you want your doctors to get found, yesterday’s SEO tricks won't work. There's a whole new prescription for getting found. My guest, +David Amerland   has spent months researching, testing, and documenting what Google looks for to determine what should appear in its search results. QOTD: I've got one for you, Gary, that I've wanted to ask for a while:
You've said that you sometimes push the envelope on keeping the company growing, but still in a positive cashflow position. I'm sure there must have been times when things were tight enough that you had to check to see if you had enough in the account to cover payroll.
Have you ever been faced with the situation where you might need to put substantial personal cash into the company to keep things rolling? How do you stay objective in a situation like that, so that you're certain you're not doing it just because you WANT the company to succeed? Do you have someone else, like AJ or your accountant, balance the discussion? Do you just DO it and hope?

It's not for everybody, but most that have been there never want to go back to a 9 to 5.
I suspect that most of us have, at one time or another, hit enough consecutive bumps that we begin to wonder if we made the right decision. I started freelancing decades ago, and I certainly second-guessed myself a few times.
I think if I'd made more of an effort to understand all the little details that could rear up and bite me, I'd have had a lot easier time of it. Or at least, I'd have been able to build a better plan. But at the end of the day, I wouldn't even consider going back to work for someone else, for twice what I make now.

QOTD response: Tough question! My knee jerk response is 50/50, just because I intend to generate a lot of content, while in my business, I have to be constantly consuming, too, to stay abreast of the constant changes. The more I think about it, the more difficult it is to give a solid answer. I guess I'll stick with 50/50.

Now if you had asked about jab vs. right hook, my answer would have been a pretty easy 95/5. I'm a soft marketer... I concentrate on building credibility and let clients come to me. Yeah, I know - I'd be a shit salesman - I found that out years ago. But luckily, I'm a kick-ass closer. So I let the sales come from credibility, referrals, return clients and the odd stroke of serendipity. Hell, even a blind squirrel can stumble across an occasional acorn, right?

I finally managed to get to your #meerkat broadcast of this episode before finding the door slammed in my face - another bit of serendipity. Watching it on a desktop kinda redefines suck, 'cause I get a lot more out of the video than I do from straight audio. Reminded me of watching one of the early panoramic movies on a small screen. But being a diehard dinosaur, I still don't plan to buy a smartphone, as the only use it would get would be connecting with you without pestering my daughter to loan me her phone.

It's funny that you would publish this just now, David, because Friday, I was berating myself for having 7 new titles on my kindle that I haven't even started, and 3 others than I haven't finished.
I used to be a voracious reader, and rarely set a book aside until I had finished it. But I came to the same realization as you... this new medium makes it much more difficult to really enjoy anything without distractions and interruptions.
Unfortunately, many of us, since we work online, are now able to accomplish a great deal more with our time, so we quickly fill up that extra time with extra tasks. It seems to be a zero-sum game.

Here's some banter, to start off with:
Hey, #VaynerNation - what's the deal? I get here and find 1,684 views on this video, 156 comments, but only 87 Likes? I don't see 69 comments saying "This was a stupid video", so I have to assume that people either forgot to Like it or were in too big a hurry to comment to take the extra 300 milliseconds to click on the thumbs up. Add that to your hustle-list, okay?

QOTD response: I love this series of videos! Every episode either offers something new, clarifies something for me or reminds me of something I knew, but wasn't practicing. Most of all, it has helped me boost my #hustle level  and improve my focus on my goal. Side QOTD: I think an incredible #100  would be an unveiling of a new #AskGaryVee website, where people could search/find your answers to individual questions. Perhaps something along the lines of http://www.theshortcutts.com/

Rockin' episode, +Gary Vaynerchuk and +CaseyNeistat!
QOTD #1: My greatest fear is not being able to care for my family for some reason. For whatever reason, that's just totally unacceptable for me. I figure it's the main reason I'm here on this rock.
QTOD#2: Definitely a yes person... I've been working on it, because it sometimes gets in the way of other things (like making a living). But I also struggle with it, because I've always been an advocate of "pay it forward", and a lot of people have helped me over the years.

Great episode, Gary. I liked the rapid fire, as a change of pace. I think you tended to go into more detail with a couple of them, because you knew that a from the hip response wouldn't do it justice.
Had kind of hoped to hear what the Amazon numbers did after your right hook the other day. Maybe in #72?
I also suspect that if Lizzie decided to launch LizzieMedia, you might not be quite as hardass on her as you say... ;)

QOTD response: The animals that scare me are big cats... mountain lions, jaguars, panthers, etc. They're consummate predators, you can't fend one off like you can most animals, and if they're not hungry at the moment, they have no issues with killing you and stashing your carcass for a later date. I'd rather face a pack of wolves than one big cat.
Good show, with good answers, Gary.
I was hoping to hear your opinion on overuse of hashtags. Some people seem to think that a five word post, or just an image, followed by 15+ hashtags is the right way to do things. It just pisses me off when I see that.
But then, it pisses me off when those darned kids get on my lawn, too! :P

QOTD response: I think your 1>0 video communicates the pivotal aspect of your social media for business philosophy, Gary. The delivery was great, too... serious and passionate, as usual. But the darker background gave it a more serious "shut up and PAY ATTENTION" effect. I also liked the B&W for the excerpts of other vids. All in all, a fantastic job of editing! Kudos to your team!

Great episode, Gary - nice to see a longer one once in a while. And I especially enjoyed the way you called out the five to thank them.

QOTD: Of "historic" figures, I think I'd like to have dinner with either King Arthur or Alexander the Great. Both set goals and worked hard to accomplish them.

+Gary Vaynerchuk, I think you struggle too much with the "who do I love the most" question. In the first place, nowhere is it written that we can't love more than one person equally. In the second place, I think there are many different kinds of love... perhaps just as intense, but of a different nature.
Great episode, Gary!

QOTD response: My best was driving back to Dallas from Indianapolis in the 80s, when they were having their worst blizzard in 70-some years. I tooled along in my front-wheel drive Dodge van while tractor-trailers, buses and state troopers were sliding off into the fields. I hate snow... hate black ice even more.... but that day, I LOVED that company van, that kept a straight line through the worst snowstorm I've ever seen.

I was a little taken aback by Charles' question, where he said it seemed to him that the #askgaryvee show is your way of organizing your thoughts. A major part of the appeal of your show to me (aside from the golden advice) is the spontaneity and sincerity of your responses. My immediate thought was "Gary doesn't organize shit! He just opens his mouth and his thoughts flow out."

+Gary Vaynerchuk, you said, "Lack of consistency is a massive vulnerability." Can you elaborate a little? Consistency in what sense? In terms of quality? In terms of topic matter? What sort of consistency?

I've tried calling 3 old friends that I haven't talked to in 1-3 years, and all 3 numbers are no longer valid, so I've sent them all emails to get their new numbers. This task ends up being harder than it sounded. ;)

Sometimes, when we get really used to something that's incredibly handy to have around, it suddenly gets snatched away from us. After a few times, we may get gun-shy... unwilling to form an attachment, lest we suddenly lose something.

Sometimes, though, something is just so essential to what we're doing, that getting by without it seems virtually impossible.

I think veracity is arguably the most important of the four, David, and almost assuredly, the most difficult requirement to satisfy.

Footnote: Taking advantage of the holiday doldrums, I've been adding semantic update entries to my sites since Christmas Eve... A laborious task, but doing it so that it also displays on the page seemed to possibly offer some value to users, If Google decides to display that in the SERPs, as well, so much the better!

David, I think that semantic search is the best thing that can happen for copywriters and users, alike! Finally, content can be tailored primarily for the readers, with a fair amount of confidence that the search engines will be able to determine what that content is about. Keywords have all but become obsolete. That lets the writer concentrate on getting the message across to the user in a much more readable and enjoyable manner.I've been beating that drum for a while... it sure is nice to hear the same from someone such as yourself.

I've had to fire a lot of employees over the years, and once, I even had the pleasure of firing a boss that richly deserved it.

I haven't had to fire too many clients, although I have to admit a certain amount of relief at seeing one or two disappear into the sunset. To date, each time has proven to be a blessing in disguise.

Sometimes it's just for the best!

I agree with part of what you say, +Gary Vaynerchuk, but you made a couple of statements that really put my teeth on edge.
Your "19th president" point is totally valid, but what about some basics of history ("if we don't learn from history, we're destined to repeat it" has a lot of validity to it), geography, or more importantly, math and science. You make it sound as if you think that we shouldn't teach anything that can be googled... and I really can't imagine you meant it that way.
