Never been a fan of working SEO. I'm in the dismissive corner due to watching the negative affect "SEO professionals" have caused clients and others. I've worked hard in the past with clients to undo the damage by the snake oil types. Jim Munro17,121Why I think TechCrunch nailed it.I think Techcrunch is the pits, gutter journalism, but I also think Alexia Totsis was accidentally right when she diagnosed G+ as terminal. With only her deep throat's information to go on she would not have had enough to make such a huge call. She should have waited to make a careful analysis but that's not how techCrunch operates.I think what's happened since has borne out her wild guess though. She could not have known that Larry Page and Dave Besbris were about to go radio silent apart from a few feelgood and pr posts.The guy who said only two or three years ago "Google is Google+" or vice-versa, has now said in his farewell to Vic Gundotra, "In the meantime we’ll continue working hard to build great new experiences for the ever increasing number of Google+ fans." Sorry Larry but I come to G+ to hear from and learn from my friends as well as find a sounding board for my own opinions. I am not a "fan" and a "great new experience" for me would be a page that loads completely in a reasonable time. Vic Gundotra might as well have said that he'd grown tired of swimming up the waterfall. The new guard does not see G+ as a means of communication. It's clear that they see us as "fans" to be distracted by sparkly things. If they'd wanted to communicate and talk sense to their users, they would have done so by now. Google just failed the test of social media.I won't be leaving G+ until it's most valuable core features are withdrawn. Other ancillary features will live on because there's a compelling business case for them but I don't think it will take many years before some management drone sunsets the core functionality of G+. Much current growth has come from android, once Nokia starts taking big chunks of that market, I think it might be time to start looking for the green exit signs.It's no big deal, all that's required at present is to devise the exit strategy that I did not ever think would be needed. I found it interesting to see that publishers haven't really changed that much in their pitch tastes, over the last 40 years (aside from the email aspect, naturally). They're mostly still looking for the same things in a pitch... short & sweet, something unique, a reason to even read beyond the title. Great stuff from +Kelsey Libert

Now and then, I'll find myself in a discussion that starts out with disagreement and starts to degrade into personal attacks. At that point, pursuing the conversation isn't likely to produce any sort of agreement, at least until tempers cool.

Of course, for some people, raging is the only communication style they know. An ad hominem approach, for one reason or another, is their standard way of dealing with disagreement. I've even known people like that who readily admitted that they consciously embrace an adversarial stance, simply because it is more often effective than not.

To me, that's not communication. On the contrary, I think it defeats the whole purpose of discussion, because there's no sharing of ideas, no learning and certainly no convincing of the other party to look for shreds of reason in your perspective.

For folks like that, I have no time. I know I'm not likely to influence their thinking and an adversarial approach certainly doesn't help make me receptive to their way of thinking. I see no sense in both of us wasting our time... I'd rather go find someone with whom I can share ideas, hopefully, with both of us learning something.

So then, the key is to find a common wavelength. Find something you can both agree on, and build from there.

Building a Foundation for Understanding
 
Sometimes, the first arguments stated may provide a point or two on which you can both agree. If so, a simple "so, to start with, we both seem to agree on A and B, wouldn't you say?" can be enough to start a non-confrontational dialogue.

If no such points present themselves, it's often possible to even present differences in a light that avoids conflict. Something like "I can see that our experiences probably vary a lot, so my perspective is probably quite a lot different from yours. I'd appreciate it if you'd explain your point of view, because I'd like to view things fairly from all sides" isn't likely to put the other party on the defensive, and expresses your desire to listen to and try to understand their standpoint. It's hard for anyone to bristle at that. If they do, they're probably just looking for a reason - any reason - to disagree.

What you're trying to do here is jump-start a conversation - a two-way exchange - because without that, there'll never be any agreement. And the best way to get someone to listen is to get them to talk about what you want them to hear. They may find it easy to tune you out, but few people can tune themselves out.

So get them talking... when in a discussion concerning differing opinions, you're in a situation that is very similar to a negotiation. And the most successful negotiators are those that spend 90% of their time listening, not talking.___

Skype Translator will allows users speak to into the video chatting service in their language of choice. The words are then translated into the recipient's preferred language. The system will hear users' words and do its best to translate them in real time. The display will show a text translation of what was just spoken in case the automated voice isn't able to handle a pronunciation or moves too fast.
