Doug Kaye64,481It's that time of year once again: Time for San Francisco's Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to celebrate Easter. We had a great photowalk for their show two years ago.  Two important notes: (1) The location this year is at Hellman Hollow in Golden Gate Park, NOT Dolores Park, and (2) from noon on, this is NOT a family event. (There's a safe-for-kids show from 10am-noon.) Don't come unless you're prepare for San Francisco-style partying! Check out the schedule of events at http://www.thesisters.org/. One advantage of coming early is to catch the Sisters applying their makeup. Photowalk: Easter with the Sisters in Golden Gate Park2014-04-20 12:00:004
Chris Chabot167,011I'll be in town for work for 2 days, and I'd love to have breakfast and shoot around down town about with you all; I missed you guys! We'll meet at Sears Fine Food at 9am for breakfast, and then we'll take to down town for some of the fine SF photography we all know and love . I have to jet at 1.30pm (literary, I'll have to go to the airport), but I know plenty of will be shooting around San Francisco for the rest of the day. Hope to see you there!Breakfast and Shooting2014-01-25 09:00:0040
Trey Ratcliff8,887,690*Drone Photography — The Variety Hour is Back!  Episode #87* We'll start the show with a special announcement and a sneak peek at something INSANELY COOL. P.S. if you have any suggestions on other people that are really into Drone Photography, let us know.  Quad-copter Photography ! The Variety Hour is Back! Episode #872013-11-27 01:00:00440

Take all sorts of photos of your fellow walkers, and later, tag away.  Get close, get far, get creative! - _Photo Lessons_ - I'll be stopping a few times throughout the walk to set up for shots.  I'll talk through my settings and describe my setup.  People are welcome to look through my camera. - _Need Photo Advice_ - Come up any time throughout the walk and ask me or Thomas anything!  We're happy to help.  No question is too dumb, and we are happy to help! - _Sharing_ - Get back home to the sweet internet after the event and upload your photos to the event.  Tag people in the photos, and tag the photos with #GlassPhotowalk    We'll have a TON more details soon...  this will be a great celebration of photography! *Watch Live:* Can't make it?  @112471890387110967375 will be hosting a @106837773805813749834 session.  I'll share it live to my stream too! *What to Bring:* Any camera will do - from a mobile phone to a big DSLR.  It's all good! :) *Party Mode:* Put your Android or iPhone into Party Mode for the event! Chris Chabot167,011Dave Powell from shoottokyo.com is in town and organizing a photowalk Sunday the 14th. Next to being an awesome person, and fantastic photographer he's also something of an expert at photowalks after having organized ones in Sydney, San Francisco, Tokyo, Beijing, Singapore, Hong Kong and Boston. *When:* Sunday April 14th, 2013 *Time:* 2PM *Where:*  Marina Green.  We will meet on the corner of Scott and Marina Boulevard.  We will shoot in and around Marina Green or wherever the road takes us.   After we lose light we will find a place to grab a bite and a few drinks. *Gear:* Pack whatever you are comfortable shooting with.  Remember, the more gear you carry the less photographs you actually take. We will be walking so don’t pack too heavy. *Who:* Photowalks are fun for everyone, and for all skill levels. From camera phones to  professional systems. It's all about the fun and about exploring and sharing with people with similar interests, so join us! Jeff Smith61,679Welcome to The Selfy Sunday Project for *December 2/12* _PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS EVENT IS NOT FOR THIS SUNDAY, NOV. 25/12._ Theme: *Bond, James Bond!* I want to see Selfy's that are inspired by *007* and the James Bond films. Lots exotic locations, action packed chases as well as numerous villains and sexy leading ladies to offer inspiration here. Or just stick to a more general "SPY" or cloak and dagger noire theme. Either way it should be fun. _Props may come in handy here!_ ________________________________ The Halloween SSP was the scariest, most ghoulish, terrifying Selfy Sunday ever. The submissions were amazing. Well done everyone. As always I want to thank +LaDonna Pride    for all of her hard work and she will be helping along the way as our co-host.  Thanks everyone we are all looking forward to some great Selfies. Selfy Sunday FAQ can be found here. http://goo.gl/ngQeF Please check there first if you have any questions. Thanks _____________________ UPLOADING The event will open for uploading at 9:00 PM EDT. Doug Kaye64,481I'm still trying to catch this elusive gem. Moonrise is 7:52pm. Sunset is 8:18pm. From Hawk Hill the moon will rise behind the GG bridge and downtown San Francisco. We can't predict the fog. It's always a longshot in August. I'll get there about 7:45 after recording @110414918019803275342, so this will be a leaderless event unless someone (@102691005290181713701?) steps up. If it looks bad from Hawk Hill, we usually try Fort Baker (behind the big rock) just too see what we can get. The Park Service will probably close the gate above the roundabout by 8:30, so it's best to park below the roundabout and walk up as far as you need to get the best shot.Full Moon at the Golden Gate Bridge2012-08-02 04:30:0014

A One-Turnley Event

Last Friday it was an honor to attend the opening of Peter Turnley's one-person show of his life's work, "Moments of the Human Condition" at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Havana. It was a major event with hundreds of artists and dignitaries from around the world in attendance. The exhibition is the first show in the national gallery (normally reserved for Cuban artists) of the works of a single American.

It shares the improved body with the other “mark II” models (better weather resistance, in-body image stabilization, enhanced controls and a new electronic viewfinder) and uses the same 12MP sensor as the previous A7s. With a maximum ISO of 409,600, it’s very usable at ISO 25,600 and in some cases to 102,400.

The autofocus is still contrast-only (no phase-detection points), and while Sony claims it’s improved over the original model due to better processing, Gordon says it’s still not his first choice for sports or other action-photography uses. He says the killer app for this camera, however, is 4K video, which the camera can now record to an SD card rather than only to an external device. Between thelow noise (high... more »

He says the killer app for this camera, however, is 4K video, which the camera can now record to an SD card rather than only to an external device. Between the low noise (high ISO) large pixels — 4K video is only about 8 megapixels anyway — and image stabilization, this is a great platform for 4K video or slow-motion 1080p.

On the other hand, I received an a7S II on day one and immediately returned it for an a7R II. Listen or watch to learn why!___

Fujifilm X-T10 -- All About the Gear

Fujifilm’s X-T10 is a great low-cost entry into Fuji’s line of X-Trans sensor interchangeable-lens cameras. You can now get the same great mage quality of the company’s flagship X-T1 for just half the price. In fact, for only US$1,000 you can get the new X-T10 with a good-quality 18-55mm kit zoom, which is US$300 less than even the non-interchangeable X100T. All with that great Fujifilm image quality.

Compared to its bigger-brother X-T1, the new X-T10 has the same sensor, same processor, same tilting rear LCD, same autofocus and same electronic viewfinder (EVF) although at a lower magnification. The body is smaller and lighter, but not fully magnesium. It has fewer controls and can’t shoot bursts as long in continuous mode. Regardless, it’s a great way to get started in the Fujifilm line or as a second body.

Gordon says the Fujifilm cameras have the best JPEG images straight-out-of-camera and I love Fuji’s unique style of controls.

Olympus OM-D E-M10 II -- All About the Gear

The OM-D E-M10 II brings 5-axis in-body image stabilization to Olympus’ smallest micro four-thirds body. The camera also features an excellent OLED electronic viewfinder, much-improved controls, a fast electronic shutter and a new focus-bracketing (focus-stacking) mode. At US$649, it’s a strong contender as an entry-level or backup MFT camera, but how does it rank as compared to the superior E-M5 II (US$350 more, weather sealed, fully articulating LCD), the Fujifilm X-T10, Lumix G7 or the Sony a6000? Gordon weighs in on all of the above.
