I had to go travel up to Ohio 2 weeks ago and work on my customer's N-scale WW II layout. The chores were mainly wiring - made a mistake last time I was up there and cross-wired 2 DCC sections; not good... So this time I made things right and also did some minor work on his H0-scale layout (more about that in another video, maybe in November). With all shorts sorted out and the staging wired correctly, I could enjoy a flawless testing session and had a happy customer. Also re-programmed the customer's class V36 diesel made by Minitrix which can run smoothly now, both in switching and mainline mode. He has another, even smaller diesel switcher made by Lemke/Hobbytrain, a class V20 that needed to be converted to DCC. Thanks to the built-in 6-pin interface and a Digitrax DZ125IN decoder, that was a piece of cake :-).

Nowadays, this area is dedicated to the "Hafenbahn-Museum"; a museum that depicts the port's railway system and the labor in the port, especially related to former times (like to 40's and 50's).

Yes, I had my camera with me and happily snapped away until the battery was empty. Bummer, I forgot to take the charger with me from Florida. Will have to go to a camera shop tomorrow and have them charge my battery...

Anyway, here are some pics I shot today. A few were also... more »

Adobe Premier Pro CC (2015) is frustrating me :-(. Why?
Because it stops working right from startup. The error message that pops up is

"Adobe Premiere Pro can find any capable video play modules. Please update your display drivers and start again."

In case anybody from +Adobe  is listening in: Yes, I followed the instructions on Adobe's website, and Yes, I have the latest video driver installed. I also started the Creative Cloud Desktop app, as well as the freshly installed Premier Pro version, as Administrator.

Guess what? I'm getting the same error message over and over again. It pops up as soon as Premiere Pro wants to load the Quicktime Import module. So I even installed Quicktime ==> to no avail.

Now I'm running out of options. Can anybody who has/had the same problem please jump in and help me out? I am a Adobe Cloud subscriber... more »

+Christophe Avon : this photo is not your work! The copyright to this picture belongs to +Jasbir S. Randhawa . I strongly suggest you get in touch with Jasbir and settle this matter. For now, I will report you for copyright infringement. Photographers work hard for pictures and if you want to use a photo of a specific photographer, it is plain common sense to at least ask for permission of use. If the usage is intended for commercial purposes, a royalty going to the copyright holder is also common sense. Please do not make me think that you belong to the many that regard the internet as a "self-service for free" shop.

Definitely a clip to rake up comments and "likes"...... but one of the silliest things to do. Not only did you, +Wayne Loomis , put yourself at danger (but I think you knew that from the get-go) but you also contributed to the railroads' hiking up their "security-measures" making it more and more difficult for serious railfans to take decent pictures and/or videos. <sarcasm>Thank you for that!</sarcasm>
You also seem to forget that many kids are watching on YouTube and (might) think: Oh what a cool thing to do!. Hmmm, I don't think that those kids are aware of the dangers of such a behavior (despite the fact that it is against the law, but you knew that, too). And lastly, let's not forget about the train's engineer who will most probably get traumatized for life when he notices that his train just sucked up a kid or two...

Let's just... more »

Let's just leave it at this: You, Sir, are not really a role model (to put it in friendly words)!___

A bit of Florida feeling in Germany...

I have a hibiscus on my window sill in Germany that gives me some "home feeling" as long as I am stuck here...

A friend is close to loosing his house. Can you help out? I already did and if I could spare more than 100 bucks, I would gladly give it to him.  Please spare this guy the shame of loosing his family shelter.

Going out today, to take pics and hopefully take that one pic that will finally sell

Meanwhile, please, if you have donated? Share this please and ask others to - if you haven't, can you? Even 20? Say what you will about asking for money, cause I hope to never do it again - I panhandled as a teen - once, to see what it was like, I hated it - got free coffee, and HUGE GUILT

I don't like this, but - I am not asking for me, if it were only me, I could live on the shore of the river - it is a family - and I am responsible, and I not only can't work, if I did, the only income I have would disappear.

So - I can only do, what I do - and I do it daily - and I bug you daily - I hate it, you might hate it - so HELP ME? Then it can be over with? Done, past, and I can go back to being that slightly annoying but loving guy huh? ___A friend is close to loosing his house. Can you help out? Very nice overall layout. However, thanks to the many tele perspectives, your video also tells us how not to lay track :-)). There are way too many horizontal and vertical kinks in the trackwork, missed railjoiners, and the like, which almost certainly would derail steam locomotives with small pilot wheels. Also, the module transitions are not really what you call accurate: rails are bent up and trains basically have to "jump" from module to module. Call me a nitpicker, I don't care but once I noticed that at about 2:22 minutes into the video, I started looking and found a whole bunch of those issues (3:38, 7:28, 10:44, 12:19, 13:40, 16:29, 17:36, and the list goes on)...

The growth of a track plan from idea to running trains. The design was developed using the trackplanning software 3rd PlanIt. This is a room-sized layout in H0 (1/87) scale. Minimum requirements were:
1. Curve radius minimum 32"
2. No. 8 turnouts on main line, min. #6 in yards and sidings
3. Staging tracks to hold at least 8' trains
4. Staging for at least 3 focal points
5. Follow the historic route from Shelby, MT to Whitefish, MT

The above mentioned requirements lead to a double-deck layout around the walls with staging peninsulas for Havre and Whitefish stacked on top of each other, and Great Falls staging being invisible underneath Havre.

Maximum grade is 3% for helper districts, otherwise 2%.
The layout is set in 1929 (steam era) and requires roundhouses and engine facilities in each station.

I guess, I'm already too much of a Floridian after living there for the last 3 years :-). Just needed some water and the port of Hamburg is the closest I can get to to smell at least some brackish water...

So, it dawned on me that I always left out one spot and that is the area around the former pier 50 to 53 which handled mostly general carge delivered by vessel, truck, and rail.

This one is especially for +Steve Boyko and his interest in grain elevators :-)
I rented a car and went up to Flensburg, Germany-originally to visit a friend of mine. When we strolled through town, we came across the former grain pier at the Flensburg port and I couldn't resist to take a few snaps for Steve.
