So, this happened last night.

In my continuing battle to keep the bird seed for just the birds, I am now trying metal trash can lids. They're very loosely resting on clamps so then pivot like cymbals. So far, they've been great to stop the squirrels from getting at the feeder.

Raccoons... not so much.
Indeed, I'm having a helluva time figuring out just how this fellow got past it.

John Oliver's introductory guide to why science journalists keep borking science.

While there's nothing much new here, it's important to remember that there are plenty of people who haven't got a clue. Oliver is presumably targeting them. And that matters. The more people understand the difference between real #science and the version they hear about on the 6 o'clock #news, the better off we'll be as a society.

"Built-in" doghouse.
I remember when I was young, we had a dog. A large shepherd-samoyed mix - looked like a guard dog, except she was white like snow. Could scare the living bejeezus out of nearly anyone. But in a storm, she was a complete wuss. She would have just loved this.
Yes, I know it's a first world problem, but if I'm going to renovate my laundry room, then I would imagine adding this feature would impose virtually no extra cost or expense.

There's that Indigo Bunting again.

You can barely see it on the feeder, but it's there. Very skittish. Been trying to get a pic for several days now. Best I can do with my phone and not wanting to get too close. I only saw it once last year. It's been around for days this year. I'd like to think they'll make a habit of it now. Fingers crossed.

We all know the crazy religulous ones are drooling at the thought of Hitch suffering eternally. They're just sick fucks who need to be locked away.

I would be interested to know how many of the regular, non-psychotic Christians feel that way. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to find out without being flooded with trolls and the fringe elements.

Where can I learn what different app "activities" do?

I know that Activities are in other apps, not part of Kustom, but I don't know where else to ask this general question.

For instance, Evernote has an activity called com.evernote.ui.dialog.QuickNoteDialogActivity. This one is pretty obvious. Other activities - not so much.

I've tried googling that activity's name and gotten nothing.
So, the question is: what search terms could I use to find reference material explaining what such activities do?

Shit like this gets published?

From the abstract: The objectivity of consciousness exists as a known mechanism to experience the subjectivity of the grandeur created by God; the love of experiencing the existence of God's creation is a requisite source of experiencing the true God; the God of compassion, understanding and kindness and not a God of terror that prevails within our entropic minds. Fear makes us loose the actual essence of God; the subjective experience of God that we have a right to feel; the wise fool us with a falsification of the wrath of God; a God ready to assault and annihilate all life at any moment. Experiencing the creation of the creator is the true appreciation of the subjective experience of our consciousness, for like the creator, it will always remain a beautiful mystery.

Start a Google Search via widget touch?

When I tap on an instance of the "Google app" widget, my Android opens Now, puts the cursor in the search box, and fires up the keyboard.

I would like to do this when I tap a KWGT.
However, if I add a touch to my KWGT, bind that to launch app and select the Google app, I get the search box and Now, but the cursor is not in the search box and the keyboard is not activated. Instead, in this case, I have to manually tap in the search box to start the search.

It's a small thing, but I would much prefer to just tap once rather than twice to get to where I can start typing search terms.

I'd like to think that there is a way to emulate in KWGT the behaviour of the Google app widget as I described it above, but for the life of me I can't figure out what that is.

Can someone help me out?

The Missing App.

You'd think we'd've reached "peak app" by now. But here's an app that's missing - or at least, I seriously cannot find: a single app that aggregates all of a user's various "streams" from social media to notifications to email and everything in between.

I almost found it in Flow Home (beta) (http://flowhome.co/). But Flow Home has three problems:

1. It's a launcher, which means I can't get anything else but that stream and a few other features that are useful-but-not-useful-enough for me. I want my home screen to look just so, and Flow Home doesn't let me.

2. It eats CPU like mad. I can tell cuz my phone heats up like mad whenever I use it. Seriously; I worry my phone will melt.

3. It's (still) in beta and hasn't been updated in 8-ish months.

Has anyone come across anything like this that's an actual app?___

This is Stumpy. He's got a bum foot.

Twice a day - for three years now - he goes up and down our shrubbery during the day to Hoover up whatever bits of food we leave out for him. Sometimes he just lies out in the back yard, in the sun, near one of our bird feeders, and uses his good front paw to scoop bird seed "left unders" to himself. All the other raccoons we see only come out at night. But I guess Stumpy's foot makes night time ambulation difficult. While we try to give I'm his space, he rarely seems to care if we're around.

I'm not sure how he got up there.
And I don't think he's sure how to get down. He's been turning in circles for a couple of minutes now, trying to steel himself I guess....

Considering how wrong Gates is about various aspects of climate science, maybe we'd be better off gifting him to the deniers.
