Finished packing the gear for our trip to SF and PSW. Gonna be exciting with two brand new products to test.

The DxO one and a new Sony camera :)
The sony I'll be testing with A mount glass and the amazing 28 and 50mm Leica R.

It's amazing what you can fit in our lowepro bags ;)

Tip :
Rules. Don't we all just love them.....
I strongly beloved in the rules that are "true" like the inverse square law, angle of incident is angle of reflection etc.

But when you read certain fora and books there are so many rules that are (in my opinion) just invented to the higher glory of the one who posted them....

Take for example that "you should never light from below". I don't know who thought of that rule because if we look in real life light is literally coming from everywhere including sometimes from below.

Now as soon as you think about light like that "it can come from any location" you will see it's very liberating for your photography ;)

Take for example this shot from nadine. She is holding a Ledgo panel aimed upwards and looking at it.

What has been the major inspiration in the last six months for you?

Or what triggered your photography again to a new height?

For me I always have these periods where I love to shoot with old lenses on modern bodies. I especially love the look of my Leica r glass on the sony bodies. So when I shoot with those it always gets my creativity a bit more flowing.

I've also been testing some new gear recently and that also always triggers me.

The fun thing is that they members don't only show and share work, but often also tips, discussions and much more....

Thanks so very much for all the people out there posting in this group.

Also want to join?

One of the many things you will hear during PSW next week. This one inspired me to push even further with my portraits.

"What's the difference between a photo and a portrait?.....
A photo is something you take, a portrait is a collaboration"

So much wisdom walking those halls and the cool thing..... We/The instructors will take the time to look at your work and answer your questions.

So honored to be part of this and I can't wait to teach. Make sure to check out my classes and demos at the expo. And feel free to ask questions of course.

Decided to take the DxO one with me today during a morning bike ride, not the best of light, but I have to be honest the detail you can get back from these files is impressive.

I'll be taking it with me during the trip to SF and PSW so expect more interesting shots during that trip.

These are some of the sights I see during what we call the "Unesco bike route" I bike, it's a roughly 25km bike ride (shortest version) and has some very cool stops (when the light is right).

Processed in DxO Optics.

Because we all love discounts...

You all know I love analogue photography.
One of the most important things is scanning to get the files into the computer.

If you use the software that is delivered with your scanner you probably think you get a good quality... but trust me it can be a LOT better.

A few years ago I switched to Silverfast and I was literally was stunned by the quality I got from the software, there was more dynamic range, much more detail and the colors... well totally different.

So if you're scanning and want the best quality, check out http://www.silverfast.com and download their software.

Now if you use the code SFdoorhof you will actually get a cool 20% off.

Nice shot by Christa
Captures the mood during one of my workshops.

While the group is shooting we often have small groups together going over the material that needs a bit more explanation. Not a wasted minute during the workshops is my motto.

The students shooting are of course assisted by Annewiek or assistants.

I strongly believe in a 1:1 feeling during my workshops and this image actually captures that very well. Thx Christa ;)

For more info check www.photography-workshops.eu or www.frankdoorhof.com

Tip:
Leading lines have been a major part of photography and painting (and design etc) forever.

Find the lines in your scene and use them to strengthen the attention to your model.

In this shot the model (nadine) is a small part of the scene so there is chance she will not get all the attention of the viewer. By leading the eye of the viewer towards her by a strong leading line you make sure the image shows the viewer what you want.

So always look for these lines to really let your model pop out.

For much more tips on modelphotography check out my book "mastering the model shoot" or visit www.fankdoorhof.com for downloadable videos and workshop info ;) You can also find my classes on kelbyone.

Tip :
Sometimes the best shots are done totally spontaneous. No lighting, nothing planned just a captured moment.

Always remember there is a time for planned and staged shoots but always keep your eyes open for that wonderful moment right in front of you.

Or as many have said "it's so incredibly difficult to take a shot when you don't have a camera with you"

Model : nadine during the UK tour.
Natural light during a small lunch break.

This is the workshop where I show the complete workflow from the idea, lighting, retouching and much more. Every segment will be jam packed with tips, techniques and much much more.

Tickets will be priced between 50-99 Euro for a full day.

At the moment we are scouting locations that can fit 50-100 people in major cities across Europe. If you know a venue or (even better) if you own a venue that can fit a large group please contact us via info@frankdoorhof.com

If you run a local photoclub feel free to contact us to help out in your area.

Just a few days left to register for my workshop in San Fransisco on August 7th.

I'll also be teaching a seminar on the 6th.

Head over to http://www.frankdoorhof.com/site/2015/07/workshop-and-seminar-in-san-francisco/ for more information and registration.

It's a small group workshop so there is a lot or room for questions and personal attention.

One of the things I love to do when visiting cities or other countries is visit one of their local markets. The people are always interesting and the combination of building and goods/foods are always a big source of inspiration to shoot some images.  …
