Sunset Over The Fleet

That's all from Dorset for this year. Hopefully I'll be back with more photos in a year or so.

Next time, in a day or few, more pictures on a completely different subject.

There's a cycling event held annually in London called, appropriately, Ride London. I didn't know it was on when I arrived in central London back in July, but I had my camera ready. There were thousands of cyclists. Here are some of them stopped at a traffic light.

Grass in Fleet Waters

An interesting thing about The Fleet, that long body of water between Chesil Beach and the mainland. Tides are low enough for grass to grow and thrive. And when the water comes in, at places it's shallow enough to see the grass.

Chesil Beach Visitor Centre

Chesil Beach consists of a huge mound of pebbles about 18 miles long, about 660 feet wide, and 50 feet high. From its base you can look across The Fleet, past the Visitor Centre, to Portland Harbour and beyond.

A note to our friends in North America: You might think that Chesil should be pronounced to rhyme with Cecil. Well, it should. But it rhymes in the way that we Brits would say it. So just as we say "Cecil" as "Sessle", we pronounce "Chesil" as "Chessle". I know, I know... :-)

A further note to the uninitiated: Most of the North Americans (ie from US and Canada) that I've heard pronounce the name "Cecil" say it as "Seesil". So now you know.

Layers of Horizon

One thing we photographer seem to love is this "layers of horizon" phenomenon, caused by mist over rolling hills. It can add a degree of mystery to a photo. This isn't the best example, but I'm happy enough with it.

This was one of my favourite photos from this holiday. A family, on their way to their fishing spot on Chesil Beach, seemingly led by a seagull. Well, who else would know when and where the fish are running?

Bird Photography on The Fleet

The Fleet is a long stretch of sea water that lies between Chesil Beach and the mainland in Dorset, south-west England. The whole area is both fascinating and photogenic and I hope to return there a lot more in the future. For this photographer, at this particular time, though, one little feathered friend completely captured his interest.

Upgrading to Windows 10 hasn't worked well for everyone. Some people are left with useless PCs they can't put right. If you're one of them, take a look at this.

"Each time his computer prompted him to upgrade, he declined. However, in June 2016 he says the upgrade took place automatically, without his permission. Since the upgrade, Jack’s computer began crashing every 15 minutes. He says he contacted Microsoft and was passed through various different teams to try and fix the problem. But the problems got worse. Eventually, his computer didn’t work at all.

"... Consumer magazine Which? has received hundreds of complaints about the update. Which? conducted a survey, and hundreds of people who downloaded the new Windows 10 reverted back to their original operating system, with many of them saying it ‘adversely affected their PC’."

The article includes a link to the Consumer Rights Act 2015:
