Introducing Shared Albums – Everyone’s photos, together at last

Privately sharing all the photos you took – and getting the ones you didn’t – is hard. Texting and emailing lots of photos is slow and data-intensive, and sometimes photo sharing apps don’t work across different devices.

Introducing shared albums – a fast and simple way to pool photos with friends and family, no matter what device everyone’s on.

Just select photos and tap “New shared album” to create a link with collaboration on. Friends and family with the link can add photos, get updates, and save photos with just a tap.

Shared albums are rolling out now on Android, iOS, and the web.
• On Android, shared albums will automatically become available in the app, as long as you have v1.10 in the Play Store: goo.gl/55OnIr
• On iOS, get the v1.6 update in the AppStore: goo.gl/gjaHPD more »

We take a lot of photos. Many are of our memorable moments, big and small, but some are of things we need to do or remember, such as receipts, screenshots, notes, and documents.

To help you quickly find and organize those photos you want to save but don't necessarily want to often see among your memorable moments, beginning today you may see a suggestion in the Assistant tab with pre-selected photos to help you quickly archive these photos. You can review the suggestions and remove any photos you don’t want archived, and tap to confirm when you’re done.

You can also archive individual images anytime. Select the photos you want to remove from the main gallery without deleting them from your library, just tap the three dots, and choose “Archive.”

You can find archived photos anytime under “Archive” in the left hand nav, view them in albums and find them viasearch.

A faster way to share photos and videos, and all-new movies

Sharing all the photos from your weekend with friends can be hard: Not everyone uses the same apps, texting can be slow, and email has attachment limits.

Now, with Google Photos, you pick the photos, tap “share” and select the people you want to share with, instead of the apps — and we take care of the rest. If your friends are on Google Photos, they’ll get a notification. If you share via phone number, they’ll get a link to the photos and videos via SMS. And email addresses will get an email with a link from Google Photos. So you can spend less time toggling from app to app to share photos — dealing with failed texts or email attachment limits along the way — and more time enjoying life’s photo-worthy moments.

We’re also upping our game when it comes to automatic creations.

Google Photos has always made movies for you using your recently uploaded photos. Now we’re going further, with new movies that are based on creative concepts — the kinds of movies you might make yourself, if you just had the time. And they’re not only limited to your most recent uploads.

Enhance your Live Photos & sort albums in new ways

Live Photos bring photos to life with sound and motion, but can suffer from the everyday bumps and shakes that happen when you take photos. Plus, they can be hard to share with friends who don’t have an iPhone.

Now, with the latest Google Photos update on iOS, you can make your Live Photos smoother and more shareable in just a tap.

Using advanced stabilization and rendering originally used in the Motion Stills app, Google Photos can freeze the background in your Live Photos or create sweeping cinematic pans, turning your Live Photos into beautiful, captivating moments. Easily save it as a looping video and share it with anyone.

Play slideshows from an album

You like crowding friends and family around your computer or TV to show them photos of last weekend’s adventure. You don’t like clicking 132 times to show them each photo.

Luckily for you, it’s now possible to play a slideshow from any album. Just open the album, click on a photo, and select Slideshow from the dropdown menu.

For the ultimate viewing experience, cast the Chrome tab to your TV while you sit back, relax, and make everyone jealous with your amazing photos.

One year ago, we introduced Google Photos. And if there’s anything we’ve learned in these short 12 months, it’s that time flies! That’s why creating a home for your memories matters. Google Photos is all about putting the special moments from the past at your fingertips. And in just a year, 200 million of you have stored 13.7 petabytes worth of photos (...and taken 24 billion selfies).

Thanks for a wonderful #YearofPhotos . Here’s to more years of taking selfies making memories!

On photos.google.com, just select the group of photos you’d like to adjust and click “Edit date & time” in the menu dropdown. You’ll be able to shift or set the time stamps, and preview the changes before saving.

Commenting and smart suggestions in shared albums

Shared albums have always been easy to use. Send an album link to anyone, let them add photos, and save photos to your library in a tap.

Now, shared albums are getting smarter and more social.

Starting today, people who join the album can add comments to photos and the album itself. So you can give your friend’s photo of her lunch and your mom’s photos of the cat the response it deserves, without leaving the app.

Plus, to make it easier to add your own photos to a received shared album, you’ll now see smart suggestions for the right photos to add. No more searching for photos from last weekend’s birthday party and picking out the perfect ones – now you can add your best photos from the event in one tap.

Introducing smarter albums, without the work

You take a lot of photos, but you don’t always have time to organize and share them. Picking out the best photos and making an album – especially after a trip – is time consuming. More often than not, you never share those photos and they end up sitting on your phone or computer.

Starting today, Google Photos will suggest a new album for you after an event or trip, curated with just your best shots. It’ll add maps to show how far you traveled and location pins to remember where you went.

You can customize it, add captions, and turn on collaboration to let others add their photos. Before you know it, you’ll have a beautiful album ready to share.

One of the best parts of taking photos is revisiting them later. Craving a little fall nostalgia? The Google Photos app lets you find the perfect photo in just a few taps — for example, simply search “pumpkin” to find a selfie from last year’s trip to the pumpkin patch. Search your photos by whatever you remember about them, no tagging (or endless scrolling) required.

This event is free and open to the public.

Can't make it to NYC? Follow @googlephotos on Twitter and Periscope as we live tweet and broadcast the events and activities taking place throughout the day.___

Introducing new ways to organize and share your photos

With Google Photos, you have a home for all your photos and videos, organized and brought to life, so you can share and save what matters. Today, we’re announcing three new features that help you better find and share the photos and videos that matter, with the people that matter.

Chromecast Support

Better share photos and videos in person, and on the biggest screen, your TV!

Beginning tomorrow, you can cast photos and videos to your TV with Chromecast. Choose what appears on the TV while you browse your library, and even cast photos you just took – photos and videos don’t need to be backed up first.

Chromecast support is rolling out this week on Android and coming soon to iOS.

People Labeling

Label the people in your photos by what you call them, name or nickname.

This week in the U.S. you’ll be able to label the people in your photos however you want - Mom can be “Mom”, “Juliana”, or “Cat Lady” – whatever you choose. These labels are completely private to you and are not associated with a Google account or profile. Once people in your photos are labeled, you can make advanced searches to find photos of people with things, places or people, such as “Mom at the beach” or “Juliana and Marco in Hawaii.”

People labeling is rolling out in the U.S. this week on Android and is coming soon to iOS and the web.

Shared Albums

Gather all your photos and videos from friends and family in one spot, and know as soon as new moments are added.

We’re introducing shared albums later this year – a new, easy way to pool photos and videos with whomever you want, and get updates when new moments are added. There’s no setup involved, and you can use shared albums on any device – Android, iOS, Mac, Windows and Chrome OS.

Stay tuned for updates on when these features are available. For more on today's Google announcements, visit http://goo.gl/klbhET.___
