Lotus Carroll1,774,454This is the Event for our March Self Portrait Challenge: Multiplicity. What this means is create a self portrait where you appear in the image multiple times (2 or more, your choice). Get creative and think up an interesting scene you can use this effect on and then make your image. Here is where you enter your ONE Multiplicity Self Portrait. Your photo must have been captured during this month. This Event remains open until 11:59 CST March 31st, so you have until then to create and enter your best photo from this month. (The dates on the Event are truncated, but you can submit a photo anytime, all month long.) Please read all rules (scroll down). Not adhering to rules will get you disqualified. *Tips & Inspiration* There are several different ways to go about achieving this effect. In camera, you can use a long exposure and move around. Alternately, you can use post processing to create multiples in an image. Photoshop is most widely considered in this type of editing, but other programs can also be used to achieve effect, such as Gimp. Margot M0You are invited to make a quirky entrance into 2015 by submitting your images to this Once Only Event: *Rule Breakers Rule* In this event you get to break every photographic rule and, more importantly, play with breaking some of your own rules.  Perhaps this is the year to try Boring-Black&White, Freaking-Techno-Colour, In-your-Face-Street, Not-the-Rule-of-Thirds, Definitely Not-A-Straight-Horizon, Not-a-Thing-in-Focus, Take-Your-Clothes-Right-Off, Shot-from-the-Hip, Backlit-Shit, Another-Hippy-Dippy-Diptych, and many, many more. Anyway, who made these damn rules?  No irony intended, but here are the Rules of the Event:  * No more than two submissions per person * Add some clues about the rule you broke * Use #rulebreakersrule  on each images so we can find them. (No infractions please or the Rule Breaker Police will #uncircle , #block #ignore and #youwillbedeadtous ) Submissions from 21.01.15 - 31.01.15 @109935908035703002300 and I will chose the winner. We hope that in the process we don’t become #deadtoyou . The winner can choose a print from any of our images.  One from each of us. If you don't like our images, fair enough, we will send you a card :-) We will announce the winner by the 10 February 2015.  Peace and Have Fun... Jeff Smith62,107Welcome to The Selfy Sunday Project for *December 2/12* _PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS EVENT IS NOT FOR THIS SUNDAY, NOV. 25/12._ Theme: *Bond, James Bond!* I want to see Selfy's that are inspired by *007* and the James Bond films. Lots exotic locations, action packed chases as well as numerous villains and sexy leading ladies to offer inspiration here. Or just stick to a more general "SPY" or cloak and dagger noire theme. Either way it should be fun. _Props may come in handy here!_ ________________________________ The Halloween SSP was the scariest, most ghoulish, terrifying Selfy Sunday ever. The submissions were amazing. Well done everyone. Scott Jarvie429,232*POST YOUR GOOGLE+ ALBUM OF PICTURES* It's been very very popular event in the past and I'm finally doing it again tonight. _This time it will be more organized, more heads up than usual and even a live event._ *SHARE AN ALBUM/GALLERY LINK* It's simple and easy but a lot of work and very fun for all. You simply share an album here and I'll be going through every single one of the albums. Then I will +1 the pictures in the album that I'm really drawn to. *BENEFIT* Well it's simply if you'd love to know which pictures I like most.  I always loved knowing which pictures people really love of mine because it helps me have an eye for which pictures are best received. It's a huge part of becoming a better photographer in my opinion. _*To be able to put out great art is first to know what great art looks like*_ *ON AIR* This will be something new... I'm going to go through all the albums Live, Online as an On-Air hangout. I'll talk a little bit about what I'm doing. If the show goes well I'll keep it for later viewing on YouTube... if the recording isn't great I won't. *SPECIAL GUEST* Because I want to have an outloud conversation about what and why I'm doing things  I will have my good friend and great photographer @109486822103622036238 on the show to facilitate the discussion. She will also visit a lot of these albums and +1 pictures as well. We ask that everyone add her to a circle ... not just because she's awesome (though that's reason enough) but so that if any of these albums are by mistake limited access she will have access. *DIRECTIONS* 1. Paste a link of a Google+ image gallery 2. Put a title or description of what we'll see in the album 3.  *IMPORTANT* If you post a link you hereby give us permission to use a screenshare view of all those pictures and perhaps your profile in a recorded Youtube video. 4. Make sure the album is Public access 5. Add @100962871525684315897  @109486822103622036238 to your circles 6. Return the favor. Take some of the other people's albums and +1 some of your favorites. *IMPORTANT* It bears repeating: _If you post a link you hereby give us permission to use a screenshare view of all those pictures and your profile (maybe) in a recorded Youtube video._ Do not post a link if you are not ok with lots of people visiting that link in addition to us and are not ok with it being on video as well.Share your Album- A Jarvie PlusOne Critique Experience2012-09-12 05:30:00143
Trever McGhee95,727Please accept my apologies if your one of the few that got hit by a bug in their system! This is my first event and for some reason Google notified some people 20 times and for some their system was planning on doing that within their calendars for the next 5 years...every single day...20 times a day...how it did or why it would set peoples calendars up to be notified 20 times a day...I don't know. Hopefully they've got it corrected, if not please let me know. I know I wanted to help peoples wishes come true but not in that way, The goal of this event my Birthday is give you as many of my Birthday Wishes as you require...why because you deserve it. My wish is here is to connect you to the thoughts/ the energy of thousands of people around the world all making a Birthday Wish for themselves from the heart... to you. I like to Imagine the energy from all those making a wish and the energy coming from the ones that come true(the smiles..the laughter..the tears...the overflowing of pure joy) being connected to you to power your own wish to come true. Thanks to some theories about Quantum Physics there's no space between you or me or them...topped with the fact they tell us energy is never destroyed, it's gotta go somewhere as each new person joins in, so why not to you to empower your wish to come true sooner rather than later. Imagine being connected to thousands....millions of others all making wishes...all hoping that your wish comes true for it will help empower their wish. They've documented several cases of where positive thoughts have made a difference, so why not around someones birthday who can then share it with everyone whose connected to that person...so me for this event. It's never been done before, so why not now....be part of it. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain as we go day by day, year by year building this community of wish granters. Now think of an image that represents your wish and then take2seconds to think of that image at least once a day until it comes true. Have fun with it, there's no right or wrong way when you come from the heart. Please let us know as each wish comes true...yes each wish...there's no law that says you're only granted one wish...you deserve everyone of them when they come from the heart..when that wish fills you with the passion for life... *****UPDATE at first I was focused on getting as many people as possible for this so that everyone had more energy but now after reading your comments..hearing your passion for life...the numbers have gone completely out the window for each one of you have brought your own unique energy to the equation that's priceless....THANK YOU In my world Birthday wishes can be made everyday of the year because it's a celebration everyday that your here to share this with. So today I Celebrate being 44 and 1 day old.Update to fix Google Bug for "It's My Birthday and my wish is for your wishes to come true!!"2012-08-17 12:00:00202

Teaching others is a very fast way to learn stuff by yourself. So helping +Alex Lapidus in his Blurs and Unsharp Photography mentorship for the past 8 weeks let me learn as much as +Roxanne Bouche' Overton

"I learned how to become more intimate with my camera as I let it move with me to capture the essences of my subjects.  I learned to look at things in new ways.  I learned to create images that were filled with emotion as well as visual content."

This is her Graduation album - a must see IMHO.

If you want to teach others about any aspect of the art of photography or if you want to learn as a mentee - watch out for new mentorships at the +G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers

Week 8:  Plus Post Blurs and Unsharp Photography: Guided Play 2015
The End of the Beginning

This is the last post - the graduation post for the mentorship led by +Alex Lapidus and is part of the +G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers founded by +Robin Griggs Wood .

The quality of the experience almost defies description.  It's been an alchemy of talented, experienced and generous teachers and fellow students.  It produced a potent environment in which to take risks and grow.  It encouraged expansion and pushed me out of my comfort zone and into that ether where the past meets the present and shapes the future.

I learned how to become more intimate with my camera as I let it move with me to capture the essences of my subjects.  I learned to look at things in new ways.  I learned to create images that were filled with emotion as well as visual content.

And now the formal part of the class is over.  But not the inspiration,  or the friendships, or the lessons learned.

I move into the future with more tools and building blocks than ever before.  I am filled with ideas and will spend a lifetime playing with them.

These mentorships are offered at no charge.  What you get out of them is invaluable.  Take a look and see if one of the subjects catches your eye and apply - get involved.  You'll never look back.

Thank you, Alex, for choosing me for this journey; for providing such a rich environment in which to grow.  Thank you +Heiko Mahr for pushing me to apply - it exceeded all expectations.  Thank you to the rest of the wonderfully talented and supportive mentors.  And, last but not least, my fellow travelers who also provided enthusiastic and generous support and such inspiration!

Attached is an album of photos that would never have been taken except for this class. ___

For the past 8 weeks I helped in +Alex Lapidus mentorship as a guide to the lands of the blur..

This is the graduation album of
+FotoAgnieszka Ambro :

"I must say that I discovered a new wonderful world! For 8 weeks I immersed myself in a fantastic world, where count feelings, shapes, colors, shadows, light, movement and energy. This experience has enriched me so much, it made me realize that  sharp photography doesn't mean better,  but that there is a parallel world, full of many different details and perhaps even more interesting, because it transmits emotions, feelings, different moods from sharp photography"

My graduation album
I recently took part in mentorship Blur and Unsharp Photography - Guided Play 2015,  offered by +G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers led by  great +Alex Lapidus and a fantastic group of mentors. I must say it was a fantastic experience, it was the first time for me!
All the lessons were very interesting, they were prepared in every detail, with a lot of additional materials. Exercises to do every week were very funny and addictive, we all did them with great passion! I learned so many things about blurred and unsharp photography, I used many new techniques and this has been very rewarding and satisfying for me. I must say that I discovered a new wonderful world! For 8 weeks I immersed myself in a fantastic world, where count feelings, shapes, colors, shadows, light, movement and energy. This experience has enriched me so much, it made me realize that  sharp photography doesn't mean better,  but that there is a parallel world, full of many different details and perhaps even more interesting, because it transmits emotions, feelings, different moods from sharp photography.
Now I graduated, I'm proud of it. My photographic repertoire has expanded, I learned new tricks of the trade, I feel richer than before, I have acquired more confidence in my strength and ability.
Thanks again to our mentor Alex, who was a superb teacher, a man of great humanity, of incredible ability to encourage, guide and push everyone over own limits.
Big thanks to the moderators of support, your feedback was always very encouraging. You did a good job!
Thanks also to my fellow students, for 8 weeks we were like a big family! Your work was very challenging and inspiring for me, it was very nice to be there in midst of you!___For the past 8 weeks I helped in +Alex Lapidus mentorship as a guide to the lands of the blur..

For the last eight weeks
I was helping +Alex Lapidus to guide a wonderful group of photographers and artists into the land of Blur and Unsharp.

Here is the final plus post of my friend +Ellie Kennard I would like to share.

If your now interested in mentoring others about photography or you want to check about future mentorships be sure to circle the +G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers page!

I Can See Clearly Now the Blur Has Gone
Sharp Focus on Blur : Final Plus Post and Album Share

And so it comes to an end  _NO_ to a START of a whole new way of thinking and taking photographs. And I can see clearly how blur and unsharp techniques can do so much to focus attention on what I want my viewer to see and experience. I have learned that sometimes the blur itself is enough to express the emotion I feel (see the dancing tractor image, or the abstract wet lights in the night images in the album). Sometimes the blur leads our eye to the subject as in the delicate details in the petals of the frozen flowers or softly lit paeony. Sometimes it helps to set mood as the dark and mysterious one in the photograph of the rusting car wreck in the middle of a dense forest or the light and frivolous one in the candy coloured flowers.

So the power lies in knowing not so much how but when and why to use this wonderful new skill. I have written many things over the past few weeks to express my feelings about what we have been learning in this mentorship. We have gone through a period of such intense creativity and inspiration, more than I have ever experienced before, that, frankly, I have been loathe to write this post. I didn't want the experience to end.

And of course it won't. It is a beginning of a new creative period in my life. I have personally discovered my ability to use my eyes, my tools and my skills to share my vision in a new way, unique, I hope, to me. Thanks to what I have learned from the main mentor +Alex Lapidus and his helpers as well as my fellow mentees, I have grown as a photographer in a way I never dreamed possible. I can't properly express my gratitude to everyone, I just hope they feel it through what they (and you) see in the joy expressed in these images in my album.
(Click on the first image to browse through the album seeing each of the 12 images full size)

And Alex? I called him a bully (and other names ;-) ) but every name was really a term of affection. He has a wonderful ability to sense the potential in each of his students and make sure that no one stops short of achieving that to the full. I hope that eventually he makes up his sleep debt. I know he got no more than an hour or two most nights over the past 9 weeks.

Thank you to the +G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers and +Robin Griggs Wood who was the originator of this wonderful program for photographers on G+. Robin has been behind the scenes (or front and centre) in many of the mentorships I have taken or helped to give on here and without her I would not be writing this post, nor taking these photographs at this point.

Are you not able to comment on Google+ because you don't belong? Would you prefer to comment on my blog? It's right here with all my G+ posts on it: http://www.elliekennard.ca .___For the last eight weeks

You want to learn more about photography?
How to Build an image so it will be remembered?

Here is the chance for you!

Summer Mentorship

Right now, I am announcing my own photography mentorship program - "Building An Image with +Tamara Pruessner".   This is the second time I have ran this mentorship and while the first had bumps due to a family loss, I am super excited about trying this again.

Sharing this post is highly encouraged, but please disable comments so people will go to the original post.

This will be a 6-week program, working on design elements of a photograph that will make you "FEEL", which to me, is the single most important job a photograph can do.  Make emotion.

If you would like to participate in a highly interactive, community-based learning project, then please read on and APPLY!

+Tamara Pruessner will be taking on a handful of people for a special mentorship program called "Building An Image".  This mentorship is designed to help you learn, search for, and apply design elements of a photograph to bring forth the emotions that make images memorable.  It will focus on rules and when to break them as well as elements such as color and when not to use it, patterns, lines, shapes, etc.

This course is NOT how to use your camera, but IS how to see and build and image with the camera and skills you already have.  I will be happy to give some guidance on technical aspects as it relates to the weekly lessons, but I will not be focusing on f-stops and apertures.

Up to 5 photographers will be selected for a 6-week on-line apprenticeship program which will include lessons, assignments,  Google hangouts are possible, and informal discussions are encouraged. Mainly, the goal is for everyone to have fun, collaborate, and learn from each other.

Selections will be announced on Friday, July 10th for the mentorship which will begin within days of the announcement of selected mentorees.

Selection criteria will include:

• You should be interactive here at G+, as you will be expected to participate in this program giving feedback and comments to others.
• You have little previous art studies, as this program is designed for those who have not had the opportunity to add this skill set to their knowledge base.
• You should be taking and posting photographs regularly.  (The class itself will be private to the group  except for the option of a public display album of your best work at the end.) You may publicly post your own achievements and I encourage it!!

To be considered for selection, please comment to this main post only: (not to any reshares)

and answer the following questions in your comment:
1) Photography skill level
2) Photo editing software used most
3) Favorite subjects to photograph
4) Aspirations within photography
5) Current job or profession (or favorite hobby outside of photography)
6) Previous art studies

EXAMPLE ANSWERS
1) Intermediate hobby photographer
2) Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop CS3
3) Trees, landscapes, waterfalls
4) To sell prints of my work
5) Full-time grocery store clerk, and I collect bottle caps.
6) I have no previous art studies

The mentorship program  is a lot of fun and has great interaction, it also requires a commitment to complete the weekly assignments.  If you feel you won't have time to dedicate to going out and taking lots of pictures, then please consider allowing others the chance to participate.

+Kyle Wilson - your earburn as requested.___You want to learn more about photography?

Echoes of the wind

a kindred
of the Earth I am
raising to the sky
by Waters gift of rain
my soul
was nourished
by the songs of Wind
it's scattered echoes
did gave me form

Monsoon poem by +Sonali Dalal

.. the image inspired us to make an poem encounter ..which give that poem:

Monsoon Poem

Covered
on a bed of rain...

life beneath
                     awakens
growing out of a dream
lost and buried in the dark soil

 rises gracefully
                          swaying to symphony
                          of gently pouring rain

Finally it is summer..
To celebrate it we have a little contest for all of you:

Random Encounters Summer Contest : The Summer TicTacToe !

Have a look!
Curious to see your creations!

Dear RE friends,

with summer finally here, we decided it may be the time for a new contest in the community.
So, without much introduction, we invite you to the Random Encounters Summer Contest : The Summer TicTacToe !

The rules are as follows:
Entries should be submitted in the form of a 3 x 3 collage. (as in the example, in normal web size, but please save a larger resolution file  - maybe 1600px at 300dpi, for possible  publishing in a future RE magazine).
Entries will be submitted in the newly created category "The Summer TicTacToe Contest" in the Random Encounters community.

Single artist creations are welcome, but so are COLLABORATIONS!
(in fact, the title collage below, is a collaboration of three images from each of us - Crina, Margot and Heiko). Conceptual, double/multiple exposures, film, mixed media...Anything goes!

Each participant can enter TWO creations under their name - if you post two images, please name them TicTacToe 1 and TicTacToe 2 . If you enter collaborative works, you can be part of more than one entry, but you can only submit 2 collages from your own account. Please remember to mention the name of the other artist(s) in collaboration entries.

Deadline - August 1, 2015

There will be prizes as usual, as well as  special features and interviews with the winner(s), at the end of the contest. We are looking forward to your contributions! Happy playing Tic-Tac-Toe! :)
