beatstone2,110,697+Artists In The Plus is proud to bring you a very special "Concerts In The Plus!' with Guitar Legend +Preston Reed. (Banner Photo By +Ralf Hebauf ) +Preston Reed has virtually reinvented how the acoustic guitar is played. Reed practices a flamboyant self-invented style, characterized by percussive techniques and simultaneous rhythm and melody lines that dance and ricochet around each other, giving his music a level of excitement that is unparalleled among today's guitarists. Playing an array of guitars from acoustic to electric to classical Reed's vast range of explosively original music will forever change your expectation of a guitarist. First-time listeners find it impossible to believe that they're hearing just the one musician, in real time. Reed attacks the entire instrument in a never-ending search for the orchestra he knows is lurking inside. At full tilt, his fingers, thumbs, fists and hands at once suggest a drummer, keyboardist, bassist and several guitarists at work. The most impressive thing about Reed's technique, though, is that it doesn't draw attention to itself. His compositions are far from abstract virtuosic displays; even without lyrics he creates vivid, engrossing scenes. Sometimes the effect is almost onomatopoetic. Reed generates visual stimuli with every tweak of his instrument, thus augmenting his wordless compositions with an aura of the poetic. Each tune is a story in itself with a potent, cinematic atmosphere and an almost tangible thread of communication between Preston Reed and the listener. Reed's entry into this guitar odyssey was inauspicious enough, his path thereafter largely self-discovered. A few chords learned from his guitar playing father, a brief, very brief, flirtation with the ukulele, clandestine practice sessions of his favourite Beatles and Stones songs on dad's guitar .... and then a too-strict classical guitar teacher led to premature retirement. At 16, however, Reed heard Jefferson Airplane's rootsy blues offshoot, Hot Tuna. His interest was rekindled big time. Acoustic guitar heroes John Fahey and Leo Kottke were studied, their styles absorbed but not imitated, and at this point things really begin to get interesting because, at 17, Reed, by now precociously proficient, played his first live gig, supporting beat poet Allen Ginsberg at the Smithsonian Institute. Just getting on a train from his native Armonk in New York State to Washington was a cool adventure. And it was just the first of many, not least of which was the one which resulted from his signing his first deal with a major record company, MCA, through the auspices of his friend, country singer-songwriter Lyle Lovett. Determined to make the most of this opportunity, Reed pushed himself to go beyond the standard fingerpicking styles he'd perfected. The result was the beginnings of Reeds startlingly innovative style, with its percussive, two-handed fretboard attack, that you hear today and which has caused guitar luminaries such "Concerts In The Plus!" Not having a lot of luck with trains to Aberystwyth this week.

Tuesday, due to a "major brake failure" had to get off the train at Barmouth and wait an hour for the next train which meant due to missed connection I was 2 hours late into Aberystwyth.

Today I'm waiting at the station and it says the train is 23 minutes late so, I might miss my connection again.

Arriva Trains Wales are usually pretty reliable so, it's not usual for this to happen.

Got bored. Made my fist meme. Currently waiting for 2nd southbound train of the day because 1st train was cancelled. Not the first time it's happened this week (got as far as Barmouth on Tuesday and had to catch the 2nd train from there and then train yesterday afternoon was 40 minutes late)

Usually cancelled or broken down trains happen just a few times each year so, this week has been a not good week for reliability.

Trying out some new (to me at least) sausages which as well as having the usual sausage bits in also has a variety of vegetables in them as well.

Think of all the time saved by not having to cook all the veg to go with the sausages.

Admittedly you'd most probably have to eat quite a few sausages to get your equivalent of one of your recommended 5-a-day portions.

It's not the first time I've had sausages flavoured with other things but, it will be (after I've cooked them) be the first time I've had sausages with such a variety of vegetables in them.

There is a question that I have pondered off and on for a while now and which has been brought to my mind once more by finding some new information.

I've no idea what the answer is but, maybe someone will see this and be able to work it out.

I grew up in a village in West Wales called Trefenter.

Now I highly suspect that the "Tref" part comes from the welsh word Pentref which is village in English but, I've never been able to work out where the "enter" bit comes from or what it means. As far as I know there is no "enter" in any Welsh words I know.

Up to this evening, I thought Trefenter was the only place with the "enter" bit in it but, it turns out that there's a place called Deventer and nearby a place called Enter in the Nederlands. There's also a place called Deventer in the US.

I asked Google translate to translate the word "enter" from Dutch to English and it translated it as "enter".

So, my question is, does about know what the"enter" in Trefenter or Deventer means?

If you know someone who might know the answer feel free to share this post

Pleased to see the return today of one of my favourite shows on YouTube. Series 6 of "Citation Needed" has started, episode 1 has been released today and is below and then there will be an episode a week until the end of the series.

A brilliant source of humour and random facts.

I'm left after this episode wondering how on earth no one has attempted to make a film about Jack Churchill and his life (if you're wondering why I'm wondering that then watch the episode and all will be explained).

Was meant to be 25c in Porthmadog and 27c in Llandudno today but, as you can see from the latest tweet from the weather station down in Porthmadog, it's already hit 31c by 2pm.

Best not to ask what it was doing in Llandudno seeing as that was meant to be warmer than Porthmadog today.

Morning all. Bore da pawb.
Gobeithio mae popeth yn iawn. Hope all is well.

I'm off on my travels today. Not to bookshop sit or to play Ingress (although that might figure) but, to go see a photo exhibition up in Llandudno.

I'm not usually one for going to things such as photo exhibitions but, this one is of photos taken along the Cambrian Coast Line (which I do most of my rail travel along) and the Conwy Valley Line (which I will be traveling along today) and might feature my adopted station so, out of curiosity, I'm going to have a look.

Don't have a car so, today's travelling is going to involve 3 buses and 2 trains. As you can see from the pic, whereas i normally start my travels from a train station, today I'm starting from one of the bus stops in the village.

Have always preferred train travel over all other forms of travel and will only do bus travel if I absolutely have to. Unfortunately due to budget and time constraints, I'm having to involve buses in today's plans.

Only got a 5 minute window at my first connection so, hoping my first bus if the day is in time.___

One advantage of train delays this morning (due to "major brake failure" according to the guard, had to get off train at Barmouth and wait an hour for next southbound train) has meant I found myself spending some time at Machynlleth Station waiting and spotting a sailrail leaflet in the waiting room.

Had a chat with the man in the ticket office and after a few minutes he managed to find out that it's possible using trains and ferries to travel between Talsarnau and Belfast for almost the same price as it is for trains and planes between Talsarnau and Belfast.

The observant amongst you will notice it says £56 on the printout in the pic. That's because you can only buy them as one way tickets which means £112 for a return.

I'm pleasantly surprised to find that this route to Belfast for this year's only Ingress anomaly in the UK is so cheap considering the distance that's travelled.

Still looking a close run thing as to whether I'll be able to scrape the cash together by November but, I'm investigating all avenues.___

Have read about cold brew coffee a few times the last couple of weeks but, it looked like you needed allsorts of things including something which is sold on Amazon for £30 but, turns out according to this video which shows you how to make cold coffee that it can be done for much cheaper.

Certainly something for me to try at some point in the not too distant future.

1. Found a brand new portal created by someone via OPR

2. Was the first time I've ever captured brand new portal before anyone else.___

A reminder from a card in my Google Now that if you haven't registered to vote in the general election then today's your last day.

Only takes approximately 5 minutes

The only UK anomaly this side of Christmas will be Belfast on November 4th.

Hotel+ travel + new passport (you need drivers licence or passport to travel from mainland UK to Northern Ireland according to Google) = (unless someone has got winning lottery numbers) I'm not going to be able to make it :(

A shame that Belfast is the only UK anomaly this year. Will just have to try and watch it from the west coast of Wales.

It's finally here! Anomalies have been announced for the rest of the year with an official post expected soon. But the important thing is that on November 4 we will have another UK anomaly set in Belfast! Get your holidays in, tickets booked and we'll see you there!

Well, I can't add any portals to +Ingress yet but, I can help add places to +Google Maps.

Just added the forest bit I found a couple of weeks back when out ingressing (https://plus.google.com/+JimWall/posts/d1hNhgZuZeB).

If you fancy helping to add places to Google Maps or help add information or pictures etc to existing places on Google Maps then, there's more info about Google Maps Local Guides programme/scheme at the other end of this link - https://www.google.com/local/guides/

Just over 48 hours left for you to register online.

If your not registered to vote yet, go to here - https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote and get it done. Takes roughly 5 minutes to do aka approx 1 advert break if you watch commercial tv.

Intriguing interview with Nigel Farage by German newspaper Ziet.

Interesting to see he's all chatty about Europe and Brexit but, as soon as he's asked about his dealings with Julian Assange and Russia he gets annoyed and wants to change the subject.

Full interview in English in text form at the other end of the link.

A tiny caravan that transforms into a boat.

Sounds like something created by +TopGear or even possibly +colin furze but, as shown by the video, it's an actual thing that you can buy.

This seems to be my catchphrase more and more lately.

As far as I know (so far) it only applies once today but, there's still 62 minutes to go.

Unexpectedly managed to get a few more unique resonators for the Magnus thing which I believe finishes tonight. Which means this is my final total.

Sadly nowhere near 1331 or 3113 but, maybe next time.

Teaser trailer for the new Star Trek franchise set 10 years before Kirk and gang called Star Trek: Discovery

Intriguingly (and pleasingly) +Netflix UK & Ireland has managed to get the UK broadcasting rights. Usually Sky seems to get first dibs on UK broadcasting rights for Star Trek franchises.

The Google keynote which kicks off Google I/O doesn't start until 6pm BST but, here's the livestream so, you can get yourself ready.

(Google usually announces all sorts of new things during the keynote)

If you're unable to watch it live, it'll be put up on the +Google Developers YouTube channel later.

For more info about Google I/O have a look at google.com/io and there's also apps (for both android and iOS) with schedules which show you which events will be livestreamed (virtually all events will eventually end up on the +Google Developers YouTube channel (at least that's what's happened in previous years))

"Almost" 3113.

Due to various things going on in next 48 hours, I doubt I'll get much closer to 1331 or 3113.

Unlikely to happen a lot but, if getting change in the UK you might want to check your change because at a glance the €1 coin looks similar to the new £1 coin.

Only just realised that someone yesterday accidentally gave me a €1 coin instead of a £1 coin.
