beatstone2,118,403+Artists In The Plus is proud to bring you a very special "Concerts In The Plus!' with Guitar Legend +Preston Reed. (Banner Photo By +Ralf Hebauf ) +Preston Reed has virtually reinvented how the acoustic guitar is played. Reed practices a flamboyant self-invented style, characterized by percussive techniques and simultaneous rhythm and melody lines that dance and ricochet around each other, giving his music a level of excitement that is unparalleled among today's guitarists. Playing an array of guitars from acoustic to electric to classical Reed's vast range of explosively original music will forever change your expectation of a guitarist. First-time listeners find it impossible to believe that they're hearing just the one musician, in real time. Reed attacks the entire instrument in a never-ending search for the orchestra he knows is lurking inside. At full tilt, his fingers, thumbs, fists and hands at once suggest a drummer, keyboardist, bassist and several guitarists at work. The most impressive thing about Reed's technique, though, is that it doesn't draw attention to itself. His compositions are far from abstract virtuosic displays; even without lyrics he creates vivid, engrossing scenes. Sometimes the effect is almost onomatopoetic. Reed generates visual stimuli with every tweak of his instrument, thus augmenting his wordless compositions with an aura of the poetic. Each tune is a story in itself with a potent, cinematic atmosphere and an almost tangible thread of communication between Preston Reed and the listener. Reed's entry into this guitar odyssey was inauspicious enough, his path thereafter largely self-discovered. A few chords learned from his guitar playing father, a brief, very brief, flirtation with the ukulele, clandestine practice sessions of his favourite Beatles and Stones songs on dad's guitar .... and then a too-strict classical guitar teacher led to premature retirement. At 16, however, Reed heard Jefferson Airplane's rootsy blues offshoot, Hot Tuna. His interest was rekindled big time. Acoustic guitar heroes John Fahey and Leo Kottke were studied, their styles absorbed but not imitated, and at this point things really begin to get interesting because, at 17, Reed, by now precociously proficient, played his first live gig, supporting beat poet Allen Ginsberg at the Smithsonian Institute. Just getting on a train from his native Armonk in New York State to Washington was a cool adventure. And it was just the first of many, not least of which was the one which resulted from his signing his first deal with a major record company, MCA, through the auspices of his friend, country singer-songwriter Lyle Lovett. Determined to make the most of this opportunity, Reed pushed himself to go beyond the standard fingerpicking styles he'd perfected. The result was the beginnings of Reeds startlingly innovative style, with its percussive, two-handed fretboard attack, that you hear today and which has caused guitar luminaries such "Concerts In The Plus!" Looks like there's going to be a bit of a temperature spike on Tuesday.

Have checked other locations in case it's a mistake by BBC Weather app but, certainly for West coast of Wales it seems there is going to be a fairly quick 10c (50f) degree increase in temp.

Yes, I know it's not as bad as some of you such as +Selina Kyle with her over 100f (37.7c) average at this time of the year but, that much of a spike in a 48 hour period does seem a bit weird.

Update: turns out it won't just be the west coast of Wales that'll be seeing the sudden rise in temperatures - https://plus.google.com/+JimWall/posts/17T5pFyKprE

I don't usually mess about with filter options and usually the only photo editing things I do are either cropping or rotating of pics but, have just been having a good go with the Prisma app.

Rather than just changing the colours a bit as though someone has put a different coloured lens on the camera, Prisma seems to change the style of the pic.

Below are 2 pics, one is the original and the other which has been automatically altered (once a style has been chosen)by Prisma.

Here's the link to the app should you wish to give it a go - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.neuralprisma

It would seem that a different celebrity does it each year at San Diego Comic Con. Wander out on to the main convention floor and not be detected by anybody until either the video has been posted online or the celebrity reveals themselves.

Previous celebrities to have done this have included Matt Smith (https://youtu.be/mU0aD91nGKU) and Daniel Radcliffe.

Well, I guess it must be a sign I'm getting old because I always used to know who was number 1 and I've only just found out that Drake is on course to beat the record for longest continuous number 1in the UK charts currently held by Bryan Adam's song "Everything I do (I do it for you)" which I do remember being at number 1 for ages and remember thinking would someone please put out a song that would actually knock this song off the number 1 spot because it was being played absolutely everywhere at the time.

Having said that, the way the music industry and charts have been going over the last decade, the way it was a new number 1 every week or 2, I did start to grow to think that, nobody would beat Bryan Adams or even have a number 1 for 4 or 5 weeks.

There was a Mexican wave of laughter down the carriage I was in tonight. Had no idea what was going on but, as the train was slowly leaving Barmouth and my window got to what they were seeing, it turned out rather than doing the usual camper/tourist thing of waving at the train as quite often happens, 2 blokes had decided to drop their trousers and flash their arses at the train for the full minute or so the train took to pass.

Although in my mind, not quite as good as the topless lady a few years back but, in her defence she and her friends thought they had found a secluded cove the only problem being they hadn't bothered looking at the train timetables. Whoops.

Although in my mind, not quite as good as the topless lady a few years back but, in her defence she and her friends thought they had found a secluded cove the only problem being they hadn't bothered looking at the train timetables. Whoops.

Having said that, the best story I heard today, whilst travelling was from a bloke I spoke to at Machynlleth station this evening.

He was on his way from somewhere in England and was traveling to somewhere up the coast to meet up with mates who had driven to where they were staying on holiday. He made the mistake of having a few drinks and fell asleep and due to him being in the front 2 carriages when the train split at Machynlleth, he ended up heading down the coast towards Borth and Aberystwyth rather than up the coast towards his mates.

According to him, he woke with a start when the train stopped in Borth and ran off the train and off up the road before realising that he didn't have his bags. He headed back to the train station and was pleasantly surprised to find them sat there on the platform waiting for him.

Having traveled as long as I have on the trains along the coast and having worked with the station museum volunteers, I suspect the guard assisted the bags off and one of the volunteers put them in an obvious place or maybe he left them on the platform in his hurry. ( I might found out the truth on Thursday).

Last I saw he got on the right 2 carriage bit of the train to go up the coast so, hopefully he made it to his mates.___

Trailer for a programme that starts on BBC 2 on this Thursday at 8pm.

I don't know if they'll be basing the whole series in north Wales but, in this clip they are traveling by gravity powered train down the Ffestiniog Railway which runs from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Porthmadog and is how at one point they got the slate down from the quarries in Blaenau Ffestiniog to the harbour in Porthmadog and onto ships which took the slate all around the world.

These days they usually have steam trains going up and down the line pulling passenger trains and on a clear day particularly in the summer I can hear the whistle of the train from my front door as they travel up or down the line.

Once in a while they run the gravity train.

I don't know about highest temps for rest of UK today but, according to http://twitter.com/portweather which tweets hourly reports on the weather in Porthmadog as recorded by its weather station ( which is approx 4 or 5 miles away from where I live as the crow flies), the temp peaked roughly 3 hours ago (approx 4pm) at 36c (96.8f).

Almost got to triple digits in Fahrenheit which +Selina Kyle has had for the last couple of months in southern California.

Needless to say I now fully understand why she gets jealous when I talk about it doing 15c (59f) over here.

Needless to say I now fully understand why she gets jealous when I talk about it doing 15c (59f) over here.___

Air con on train shaped thing from Machynlleth is broken.

Quite glad I brought extra bottles of water.

Think I'll be nicely cooked by time I get off the train

Snowdon seems to be attempting to play hide and seek behind that tree in the middle of the pic whilst basking in the morning sun.

Whilst I once more find myself waiting for a train shaped thing and am hoping it doesn't hit 29+c today as predicted by weather forecasts.

Turns out Wales has a new superhero (it already has SuperTed). According to instagram.com/superherodaipool this new superhero's name is Daipool.

Although instead of living in Wales he lives in LA. So, I wouldn't hold your breathe waiting for him to come to the rescue in Wales.

He's currently working on making a film.

Have to admit that, I've heard of the original version of this film but, not seen it.

With who they've got in the cast and the director it bodes well for a good film but, Hollywood seems IMHO to have more misses than hits with remakes so, will be interesting to see what the film is like.

Considering its only a week or 2 until the film is out in cinemas, it's a bit strange for a new trailer to be released so late but, I think it's the best of the 4 that have been made for this film.

The film is cowritten by Simon Peggy so, will be interesting to see what he's done.

Train shaped thing broken down somewhere between Porthmadog and Pwllheli. Meaning I have an unexpected extra 2 hours in Porthmadog this morning.

Already done some Ingress and Pokemon Go. Very glad I brought my battery pack with me.

A belated #caturday post

Would seem it's not just the humans who are arguing around No.10 and the Foreign Office.

Should you be having trouble waking up this morning then I suggest you crank the volume to 11 and press play.

A bit different to the beat boxing I've seen before in that he makes use of sampling machines in his performance but, all the samples he uses in his song are produced by him on the stage during the performance.

(Caution: contains a handful of NSFW words).

Some very clever mixing and turn tabling with not a laptop or some form of beat matching software/equipment in sight.

A #sciencesunday post courtesy of +Robert Llewellyn and an episode of his Fully Charged YouTube show.

At first when you start watching the video you'll think, I posted a link to this video because of the pocket sized, Bluetooth enabled air pollution detector and I agree that, that is pretty cool and a clever piece of science and tech but, for me the more mind blowing bit is that the rechargeable battery inside is not recharged by plugging the device or battery into some source of power or putting it on a cordless/wireless recharger but, by signals from 2G and WiFi radio signals.

Admittedly it's a very small charge but, the nearest tech way of doing it (as far as I know is) having to put your device physically on a wireless charger. Where as this battery is constantly recharging just from the 2G and WiFi signals as it moves around or is static and not having to be incon... more »

Following on from my last post (https://plus.google.com/+JimWall/posts/QLL8atrKCVr) regards the temp spike on Tuesday, here's pics (from twitter.com/bbcweather) showing that it won't just be affecting the west coast of Wales and also yet more proof of why I'm glad I don't live in London.

Looks like there's going to be a bit of a temperature spike on Tuesday.

Walked all the way round to a poke stop and I presume the Americans have woken up and overloaded the Pokémon Go servers because it was all fine earlier on today but, I can't login right now to see if there's anything here.

Is vaguley reminiscent of the early days of the internet when you could tell when the Americans had woken up because certain bits of the internet slowed right down to a crawl (if they worked at all).

Darker green hump in middle of pic is known as Ynys Giftann ( I'm not sure how you spell the Giftann bit) which sits in the middle of the Dwyryd estuary and was allegedly a present from Queen Ann to one of the ancestors of Lord Harlech.
