|Charles Lupica||66,461||Top 1000 most followed active photographers sharing content on G+ Circle One: A to JThis is the first of two circles, I'll share the second circle this weekend so that they're not so on top of each other. The circles have been divided alphabetically to help give more exposure to people with fewer followers. Please plus, comment and share. This circle has no requirements for future participation but your support and encouragement is appreciated. It has been two weeks since I announced my intent to update my circle of the 500 most followed photographers on G+. I decided to do things a bit differently this time and so I'll share the top 1000. To build the circles and the list I enlisted the aid of +Bill Wood +Gemma Costa +Jen Baptist +Kat Scan and +Margaret Tompkins. They built circles and vetted profiles. My starting point for this was a list of 2000 names generously provided to me by +CircleCount. Thank you all for all of your help.I have chosen the name of the circle carefully to try to accurately represent the contents of what will be in the two circles. The script / finding namesThe script is provided by CircleCount and looks through the tagline of every profile on CircleCount to find the word "photo" or "foto". If a photographer doesn't have a CircleCount profile they won't be found. If one of these two words isn't in their tagline, they won't be found. A few people I know have fallen into this flaw in my thinking. To fix this, CircleCount has asked me to provide a "whitelist" of names that the script misses. The white-list list adds another 30 or so names to the result. How was the list processedThe list was sorted by the level of activity. People that hadn't posted in the last month (approximately April 5 to May 5th) were removed from the list. This included people that hadn't posted or people that had posted only once in the past 4 weeks. Again, this has some flaws but I'm mostly happy with the results. People who are posting only in private communities or people that interact a lot with other people but don't post their own work will get filtered out along with the people that aren't really active. ValidationThese two circles were very heavily vetted. Of the original 2000 names, nearly 35% do not appear in either circle. This is a result of the filtering I mentioned above and vetting of ever single profile in the list until we had enough names to make a list of 1000 names. The list was divided into 6 parts with Bill Wood, Gemma Costa, Jen Baptist, Kat Scan, Margaret Tompkins and me each taking a group of names. I tried to assign the list so that the pe||2013-05-16 16:41:28||501||130||82||147||CC G+|

Sorry! :)At nearly 1000, my art circle is bursting at the seams. It's too big to share on it's own anymore, so I thought I'd break it down into several smaller circles, to share over a period of days. These people fill my streams with visual imagery, sometimes beautiful, experimental, evocative... each one has a unique perspective and practice. Most of these people are painters, drawers, illustrators, sculptors, etc. (I generally keep my photogs in a separate circle, with a few exceptions, for good measure. So yes, this circle is a different beast.)The desire to connect with other artists is what brought me to G+, and it is a huge part of why I am still here.****************************************************************************A note about this circle, and my sharing it.Every time I share a circle, I get a backlash of anger from people that are not in it. Honestly, it is to the point that I rarely share circles. Please know that this circle is not all of the artists that you should be following here on Google+, it is simply the artists that I follow. I have chosen them for personal reasons, and enjoy following each of them. I am sharing them because I believe that you may also enjoy following them. This circle reflects my choices, of whom to follow, please be respectful of that. If you are an artist, and not in my circles, please feel free to say hi and let me know in the comments, so that I can mosey on over to your profile and see your work! #art #creativity #sharedcircles||2012-08-16 16:59:17||106||10||5||23||CC G+|

|Thomas Hawk||2,461,011||2,000 Kick Ass Photographers on Google+Part 1 of 4 (A-Ev)This is the fourth time since joining G+ almost a year ago that I'm sharing my photographers circle. I shared it with 500 photographers, 1,000 photographers, 1,500 photographers and now 2,000 photographers. I have to break my circle up into four 500 photographer circles as that is the G+ limit. Each day this week (Mon.- Thurs.) I'll share a different circle. Today is the first circle and includes photographers with the last name's A-Ev (although +Marc Evans you are in tomorrow's circle). A few notes about these circles. I always get hated on when I share them by people. Inevitably if I include 2,000 people, I will leave 50,000 people out. This is not intentional or personal. This circle is not "the best" photographers on G+ or in the world. It doesn't mean if you are not in my circle that you are not a "quality" photographer. This list is simply photographers that I've stumbled across for whatever reason over the past year and have chosen to follow their work. In some cases I've gotten to know the photographers in this circle personally -- through photowalks and trips, hangouts, in real life, etc. Many of these people are or have become my friends. Most of the photographers in my circle though I don't even know. They are just people whose work I admire and want to consume -- I hope many are future friends. :)I use some objective criteria with this circle but I use a lot of subjective criteria too. This is, afterall, my own personal circle that I look at and +1 from every single day. My aesthetic taste and personal preferences may be very, very different than yours. This is ok. Art is subjective. That said, here a breakdown of my own preferences and biases that influence who I add into my circle.1. I like people who are active on G+. If you haven't posted one of your photos in the last month you probably are not in this circle. I use a script to uncircle inactive people regularly.2. I like photographers who mostly post their own photographs. I dislike clutter and "dumb stuff" in my photographers circle. Excessive reshares, circle shares, memes, gifs, youtube videos, posts not about photography, web links, etc. make me uncircle or move people to a different circle. I also like photographers who regulate how much of their photography they post to their stream. I don't want to see 50 shots in a row of someone's vacation. I think about 5 photos max a day feels about right to me.3. *Controversial* I dislike signatures and watermarks. You will find photographers in my circle that use them. It's just a bias, not a hard and fast rule. I mostly want this stream to be as watermark/signature free as possible. I totally understand and respect your reasons and decision for using watermarks/signatures. I hope you equally respect my decision to not want to consume photos mared up with them. Please don't turn this into a discussion about watermarks/sigs, I've spent the last 10 years thinking heavily about this issue. It's just a personal preference and bias.4. I like people who are active, positive, helpful, enthusiastic G+ community members. I dislike people who are rude, mean, complainers, trolls, harrasers, etc. If you say mean things to people, about people, about their art or their work I don't want to follow you. I'm fine with debate and disagreement. It should just be done respectfully -- there's a huge difference between respectful disagreement and rude behavior. Not only will you not be in this circle if you are rude, I'll probably||2012-06-04 16:53:26||500||235||147||424||CC G+|

Some of the people within it are purely artists, others are writers, but so many are both that I've never really sat down to sort them out into separate ones. A great number of the people here are wonderful engagers, as long as Masters of their crafts – which are often many and varied. Others are more reticent, but that might well just be my experience – yours may differ...Any road, I hope you'll find some interesting and inspiring people within this group:+Loren Groves _; you were looking for artists and +Lord Parker; I've owed you some Circle shares for a long time, here's a start._||2012-06-04 04:14:51||246||6||1||1||CC G+|

I've been refining this for the last month, adding photographers who have a good eye and aesthetic that I think are good. I like photography that takes you places and allows you to see people and things from all parts of the world from perspectives you've never seen before. I think many of the photographers in this circle do that very well. These are all very active G+ users and should provide your stream with some really nice content. Once when it got to 500 and then again when it got to 1,000. Today my circle hit 1,500 so I'm sharing them again.I have to break them up into 500 person circles because this is the limit on Google+. Also Google limits the number of people you can add to circles per day so I'm going to publish my kick ass photographers circle over 3 days. Today I'm publishing A-G. Tomorrow I'll publish G-O. Friday I'll publish P-Z. By last name.In addition to the kick ass photographers in these circles I've also added three other accounts. Our new photography hangout show which will be on live tonight at 8PM PST +Photo Talk Plus as well as our show's sponsors +Drobo and +SmugMug as a way of saying thanks to them.A few notes about these circles. not to be long-winded, but…Every time I've shared my circles I've gotten haters from it. People who are upset that they are not in them. I absolutely detest that. It makes me not even want to share them because of that. These circles are not meant to be the definitive list of what photographers you should be following on Google+. These circles are simply who I have chosen to follow for photography on Google+ for my own personal consumption. I want to share them because I think YOU may also benefit from having these rich, talented, kick ass photographers in your streams. This is the circle that I browse every single day looking for great stuff to +1 and comment on Google+ and as such it reflects my own personal biases. For example. I hate looking at watermarks. This is a personal preference thing. If you use them, more power to you. It's absolutely your right. But as a consumer of photography I find them ugly and distracting and so I tend not to follow people who use them. This is not a big deal. This is not a personal attack against you if you watermark. This isn't even a universal rule of mine. I do have a few friends who use them that I still follow. But by and large, what you get with my circles is a watermark/signature free circle. I also prefer people who are active on Google+ both in terms of posting and in terms of contributing to the community. If the last photo you posted was in November, I probably won't have you in this list.If you were in my photographers circle before but removed, it could be for a lot of these sorts of reasons. Watermarks/sigs, not posting enough, posting too much non photography stuff that I'm not interested in, or all kinds of other things. Who knows. But it's most definitely not personal. (Unless I'm blocking you and then maybe it is personal). Also if you are not in these circles it may simply be because we don't know each other yet. In time perhaps we will become great friends (hopefully). Or you may not be in these circles just||2012-01-18 23:20:26||500||193||111||261||CC G+|

I hope you also find some people with common interests in it.||2011-11-04 22:42:12||500||18||19||15||CC G+|

|Amy McLeod||1,986||Ok, I have recently expanded my articulate and engaged circle with circles other people have given out of people that are interested in or actively participating in the Occupy movement. I'm not guaranteeing everyone I'm sharing here, as 900 odd people is a bit much to go through. These are people who would normaly be all over the political spectrum, but all interested in the the problems with out of control finance and it's corruption of goverment, they will certainly hold many views totally contrary to yours on many issues, but on this issue they are the 99%. I can't even guarantee that everyone in this circle is what I've stated above, I just took on trust the circles that have been shared to me and added them to people I had circled as articulate and engaged before Occupy took off, some of them may even be incomprehensible and disinterested, feel free to sort through them yourself if you have time, but I'd urge you not to exclude anyone just because their views are the polar opposite of yours on other issues. 99% is more important than any other divide and on this one thing both left and right should be united.First 500 are here.Amy McLeod shared a circle with you.||2011-10-19 15:12:51||500||3||0||1||CC G+|

I made a new 3D print! This lamp took several iterations, now it's finally finished. I originally designed it for a contest, then modified it to fit some standard lights so it could glow from the inside. It's my largest and most expensive piece yet, prototyping this fucker cost me a lot.

+Timothy Dahlum and I just bought a house! It's in Highland Park, a cool, semi-hipsterish area with trendy coffee places nearby. We get the keys on May 2nd and start moving in after that. So happy, we have so much work to do, we'll have to landscape the crap out of it, paint some walls, and remodel some things here and there to make it perfect.

Guess who designed this hat in collaboration with famous hat designer Gabriela Ligenza? Based on my Mobius Nautilus, as part of an incredible new selection of 3D printed hats. Photographer: Josh Shimmer.

This is groundbreaking and needs to be shared. +Timothy Dahlum just found out that you can draw on your trackpad using a stylus... But there is a trick to it, you have to click down with your other hand and hold it there, so that you don't put much pressure with your drawing hand and it glides smoothly. I drew those thingies in Photoshop with no problems. Writing is much harder, because you have to lift and click too often unless it's cursive.
Also, there's something odd about this picture, and though Photoshop is there, it is not Photoshopped... Let's see if someone spots it...

I went to the Ramen Yokocho festival in Arcadia. Very long lines, but I finally got my ramen burger. Pretty good, but messy, and not so good that I'd wait that long for it again in the future.

Trying out the new bouldering area at Rockreation in Santa Monica. They need to add a ball pit underneath instead of foam padding and that'd make it perfect.

I was afraid of how they could make this work in 3D, but it looks quite good with the drawovers and the lack of motion blur. High hopes for this one.

Oscars Oscars Oscars, but let's change the subject for a second... I just finished reading Flowers For Algernon by Daniel Keyes, and I have to recommend it to everyone. It's one of those few rare books that teach you something you already known, but didn't internalize completely. Reaching into a mind with so many different perspectives was enlightening and frightening, it's a great windows into human nature and prejudice, and a sad but invigorating story of hope and resilience. Read it!

I was one of the featured artists at today's 3D Printer World Expo. So many cool printers and designs, I had a great time and got to meet a lot of my favorite 3D designers. You can see the two pedestals I had with my work, but I also had other pieces in two other booths where people could touch them. There's also a prototype of a new design I made in these pics, which will be printed in full quality soon and will be my most ambitious print yet. Take a guess :)

I'm going to the 3D Printer World Expo tomorrow, in Burbank. I'll have some of my pieces on display too. I stopped by last night while they were setting up, and got a glimpse of the awesome stuff they'll be showing. It's insane. If you are in town, go see it, it's pretty cheap and there's fantastic art and tech to see. Register here: http://www.3dprinterworldexpo.com/page.cfm/ID=1

One last pic from our Oregon/Washington trip. Not a fancy landscape pic, just a nice moment with +Timothy Dahlum. This was at Vista House, on the way to see the waterfalls at the Columbia River Gorge.
I had my 400mm lens on, so I had to set the timer and run quite fast to get in the pic. Cloudy day lighting is always awesome, especially with the blue cast behind.

Another pic from the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge in Washington. Asides from tons of birds, we also saw a family of river otters (Lontra canadensis) swimming down the creek. They all stopped for lunch at this mossy log, there were about 5 more.
Every single one of them brought a fish, they all ate at the same time. It's like they had been swimming for a while looking for a good place to stop and eat, each carrying their lunch.
It was loud and crunchy.

A Lincoln’s Sparrow (Melospiza lincolnii) at the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge in Washington. I loved that refuge, you drive very very slowly around a loop and watch birds of all kinds everywhere. There's only one stop where you can leave your car, and it has a bird blind (little shed) overlooking the main lake.
I took this one from the car while Timothy was driving and stopping every 5 feet.
Lots of eagles, waterfowl, and tiny passeriformes. The sounds were incredible. And that was in the middle of winter, we need to go back during other seasons.
Equipment and settings:

One more from Mount Adams, reflected on Trout Lake. We waited until the very last light, it really seemed like no more sunlight would hit but then a bright pink beam showed up for a minute or two.
I couldn't find a good location with a nice foreground, but at least I got some ice in there.

On January 1st we headed to Trout Lake, which is just south of Mt. Adams. It was the first clear day and the first time we got to see a snowy peak during the trip.
Trout Lake is a great little place, I'd love to go back there during spring.
The strange rainbow effect in the clouds is because I HDR merged this pic from two RAW files, so the clouds weren't perfectly lined up.

Another one from Horsetail Falls. In this one, the 3 stars touching the top of the falls are the one and only dagger from the constellation of Orion, with the Orion nebula as the center "star". A dagger made out of stars piercing through a 176ft tall waterfall with the Pleiades on the right and Jupiter super bright on the left, what else could you want?
