It's really on the 18th!* _As it turns out, for any plan to work, every team needs at least one asshole who doesn't give a shit if he or she gets fired or exiled or excommunicated._ - David McRaney It's no secret that I pride myself on being an asshole. I had it described to me once with the comment "You get away with so much shit just because you're Evo." True, but the secret therein lies in David's quote. On Sunday, I'll share a few more secrets on how you can become a likable asshole just like me! _About Show Up Sundays_ For me, Sunday is part work, part relaxation, and part planning for the week ahead. I start early -- or rather I should -- to get the jump on the day. Care to join me? The Hangout-a-thon will start on June 15 at noon Eastern (GMT – 5). Over the weekend, they will host numerous guests, ranging from scientists who will do science demos, creatives who can unite science and art/music, and researchers who will discuss citizen science and address science education from the perspective of research and metrics. Each segment will be released after the event as a stand-alone YouTube video on the AstrosphereVids channel, thus creating a library of content while raising money for future programs. Planning for this Hangout-a-thon was triggered by the cuts created by sequestration, and by the current White House plans to transition education out of NASA. If the President's current budget is passed, all the funding programs CosmoQuest relies on for will be zeroed (see http://bit.ly/11m5XYg) and the project will be defunded. Rather than accept that fate, CosmoQuest is working to raise the funds needed to keep their programs going, to build new citizen science programs for researchers that don't otherwise have the means to accomplish their projects, and to contract, as they are able, extraordinary people laid off by these cuts at other institutions to keep doing great things through CosmoQuest. (Links to essays on these cuts are listed below). CosmoQuest wants to make sure astronomy education survives and remains strong. While one team, and one telethon can't fix everything, they hope this event can raise awareness, while protected one small corner of astronomy research and education. #hangoutathon||The CosmoQuest 24 Hour Hangout-A-Thon - Main Event Page||2013-06-15 18:00:00||315|

|CosmoQuest||42,435||Join us this week as we talk with Jonathan Roberts about the Space App Hackathon and his winning entry from the New York region. I'll let Jon introduce himself in his own words: "I'm a postdoc physicist at NYU, researching the origin of cosmic rays. I used to make predictions for how we would find dark matter at the Large Hadron Collider when I was a postdoc over in Warsaw. I've been doing more and more data visualisation recently after getting frustrated with how hard it is to get a feeling for lots of science data. I went along to the NASA space apps challenge and was amazed by the number of people willing to put their time in to create tools to open up access to science results. I spent 36 hours coding with people I'd only just met, had a great time, and created a functioning tool that's useful for scientists and the public. I was pretty amazed. We created a site that aggregates data on what telescopes are looking at, and when they're looking. The site plots the observations on the sky so you can see not only where the telescope is looking, but click to find out more, and explore historical images of the target - whether it's a distant galaxy or a supernova remnant in our own Milky Way. You can filter by date, or by target, and you can export the data as plain text - making it useful for scientists as well as the public. And there's a twitter account that will tweet to you when telescopes turn to look at new targets, so you can get tweets from space! Oh, and I also draw maps professionally..." #LearningSpace||Learning Space - Apps for Space!||2013-05-02 01:00:00||93|

|NASA||3,047,367||Fifty years ago, President John Kennedy challenged us to go to the moon within the decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard. As we remember Neil Armstrong this week – the man who, with a single step realized the hopes of a president, this nation and the world – we are recognizing the extraordinary achievements of the past five decades achieved by our nation's space agency and where the passion to explore will lead us in the future. President Barack Obama has set NASA on course toward an asteroid and to send humans to Mars within the next two decades. This goal is not without notable challenges, but using the knowledge, expertise and American ingenuity that has been the trademark of NASA scientists and engineers for the last half-century, NASA continues to make possible that which is seemingly impossible. At 3:00 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, September 12, NASA astronauts, scientists and engineers will hold a Google+ Hangout to talk about NASA's rich history of innovation and ingenuity and talk about NASA's future goals for scientific discovery and human spaceflight. During the event, we'll be joined by: - Dan Dumbacher, Deputy Associate Administrator for Exploration Systems Development in NASA's Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate. He is the former Director of Engineering at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. Previously, he was the deputy director of safety and mission assurance at Marshall. - Ron Garan, astronaut who lived and worked aboard the International Space Station. He has been in space for 178 days and has conducted four spacewalks. - John Grunsfeld, Associate Administrator for NASA's Science Mission Directorate. He is an astronaut and researcher in high energy astrophysics, cosmic ray physics, and in the emerging field of exoplanet studies. He was also the deputy director of the Space Telescope Science Institute, managing the science program for the Hubble Space Telescope and the forthcoming James Webb Space Telescope. - Michael Lopez-Alegria, the President of the Commercial Spaceflight Federation. He is a former Naval Aviator and test pilot (Capt., U.S. Navy, Ret.), NASA astronaut and International Space Station (ISS) commander. |KQED SCIENCE||404,067||@100526514195087244555 is hosting a Hangout On Air round table discussion about the proposed expansion of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. While the area will increase by just 1%, it isn't just any small patch of ocean water. It's the busiest, most high-profile section of Northern California's coast, a highway for oil tankers and fishing boats, a recreational haven and a backdrop for millions of photographs -- the waters directly west of the Golden Gate Bridge. "People assume that the water around the Golden Gate is protected. It's not," said Maria Brown, superintendent of the adjacent Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary. "That area is of unparalleled beauty. It is an iconic area." But expanding the sanctuary could affect everything from firework shows to whether people can ride Jetskis off the Marin Headlands. I have bad news. I got duped by this kid. It's been revealed as a political hoax by model number. This clock device has also been used in previous terrorist bomb making by the JDL.
This gives Donal Trump a lot of political leverage at a very curious time since Obama said "cool clock" about circuits used in bombmaking.
I've added a caveat:

Look in the mirror
Pop culture is constant division, drawing lines. Nearly everyone does it near all the time.
Hillary Clinton's greatest enemy, more than Iran, more than ISIS is who? Republicans.
Cops are enemies.
Scientologists are enemies.
Wall Street bankers are enemies.
The list goes on, and on, and on without the benefit for Donald J. Trump. This person, and the media that makes him popular, is a mirror reflecting the desires of it's audience: us.

If I had total control over Google+ it'd be 5000 better. It's still a dog. The user experience on G+ is absolutely horrible. And I don't have high confidence this new update will do anything. I'm long past writing about different ideas for Google+.
I'm guessing we can't see the new update until we see "let's go?"
My prediction is still that Google+ will be inevitably discontinued and/or switched to something "new."

If spacetime is built from entanglement, and EPR=ER then spacetime is built from virtual micro black holes.

"This would correspond to the threshold of formation of the time machine."
Interesting paper, even though it's difficult to understand.

There is still no spoon
If space-time is filled with virtual micro black holes, they would constantly evaporate and form.
EPR=ER says that two maximally entangled black holes that evaporate create a topographical (geometric) curvature of spacetime such that the length inside a 2sphere is zero (due to non-locality & entanglement). This means that two localized 2spheres separated by space-time find themselves being connected by entanglement such that the distance between them is zero. There is no bridge because the length of the bridge is zero. It's just two spheres with event horizons that connect directly to each other at or below the Planck scale.
This means that the very medium (EM field) through which wave-particle photon wave functions operate, which is non-zero space-time, can be thought of as being connected by a rather large number of virtual... more »

"In truth, it was entirely consistent with the pilots desperately needing to find the nearest airport in an emergency. "
“Even if the transponders were located in different parts of the airplane they could have been disabled by a fire in the electronics bay, instead of by a deliberate action by a pilot or a terrorist entering the electronics bay, as has been suggested. It is therefore conceivable that the electronic and navigational systems in the bay could have been disabled [by fire], leaving only the hydraulic systems working.”

Not sure if this is accurate but it would not be at all surprising if it's authentic.

Both Adam Lanza and Chris Harper-Mercer were angry at an imaginary God. They hated that their "God" made them awkward and unloved by girls.
There were both virgins. And they were both provided guns by overprotective mothers who knew they had mental issues.
+Barack Obama failed. The problem is parental rights and bad parents who will always be able to buy guns despite restrictions on individuals.
There is a selfish aversion to call out parental rights because we think we'll be implicated for the actions of our children.

Important caveat for Ahmed's clock
The addition of a wire to a metal latch connected to a metal case could be used to trigger a clock circuit. The impedance of electrical current through a circuit can be detected when a human touches the metal. This could potentially stop/start the clock or the timer functions.
This would be a "neat" hack or "invention" if it were not for the obvious applications, or being revealed on or close to 9-11 using a commercial Micronta circuit used in previous bombmaking.
1. The latch wire was useful and a real invention.
2. The latch wire was useless & part a hoax bomb.
In general, we should want kids smart enough to make bomb triggers, yet mature enough not to be inspired by religion to kill.
