Thomas Hawk7,967,425The one and only @111863388502434056486 Guru @103519655975029093996 is coming to town and we are going to celebrate in style.  Join us on Thursday, October 11th for a special dinner / photowalk.   We are going to start the evening off at 5:30pm at Henry Hunan's on Sansome Street in San Francisco (note there are several Henry Hunan's, this is the one on Sansome in North Beach).  We'll enjoy some of San Francisco's best chinese food and then head up to go shoot the tallest building in SF, the Transamerica Building at sunset/dusk.  We'll shoot the building from the Montgomery Street overlook -- one of the best locations to shoot This iconic William Pereira spire from.   Afterwards we'll float around North Beach shooting more of the historic architecture and night life before ending up the night at Specs' Twelve Adler Museum for a few later evening adult beverages.   Specs' is a throwback to old school San Francisco that the SF Weekly describes as "one of the few bars left where you can ask for a martini and get a cold glass of gin and a little vermouth without having to answer a bunch of damn fool questions." Rumor has it the smoothest dude alive @101651096660571767183 will also be joining us from NYC and @105873814765821560444 will be up from Los Angeles.   What a great night for photography this will be.  Come on out for a great G+ Photography evening!A San Francisco Dinner/Photowalk with Gordon Laing2012-10-11 17:30:00136

Sleigh bells rinnnnng... are ya listening?
OK, out of season I know. But it's snowing again, so it's Christmas in my heart!
This was out by Lake Tahoe last week. Now we're getting enough white stuff that they'll be able to take the training wheels off the sleigh! Wheeeee!!

Rushin' River: Cisco Grove, CA
As I'm poised for my last trip this year, I remember how excited I was that THIS was one of the scenes that welcomed me home last time. I literally photographed this with my suitcases still in my car on my way home.

My mountains always welcome me home so lovingly. #Grateful.

Snow. Snow is on my mind. LOTS of snow and it's still bucketing down. Feels like January again, which was when this shot was taken with the Fujifilm GFX 50S. Wrote a blog post about my 6 days with that beauty - it was an epic tale of me and the elements. It's here in case you missed it: www.karenhutton.com/GFX.

For now, more snow. Lots 'n lots of snow. Did I mention that? Interstate's closed on and off, since max chains aren't even helping with traction, many local roads closed. Got my exercise though! A couple of hours behind a snowblower, shovel and broom (to knock snow that was pulling all of our trees to the ground!).

See the leaning trees in this image? Yeah, they were really leaning, from the weight of the snow. 2 days later most of those leaning trees had come down. I felt a little sick to my stomach when I realized that. +Justin Majeczky and I had walked... more »

I felt a little sick to my stomach when I realized that. +Justin Majeczky and I had walked under many of them when we were out filming on my final day with the camera. When I returned those 2 days later, it was like a war zone with fully mature trees yanked up by their roots.

So yeah. I'm saying hi (Hi!) as I sit it out in whiteout conditions here in the mountains.

I head to NYC tomorrow night for Fujilove LIVE... think good thoughts for all the roads being open, the airport being open and a safe flight! Can't wait to see everyone there!___

As promised! My story of 6 days with Fujifilm's new GFX 50S camera on my blog: www.karenhutton.com/gfx!

That week was about way more than beta testing... I think of it as (cue movie trailer voice) a hero's journey, a challenge of mind, body, spirit and pocketbook! How's that for a billboard? hahah. But seriously... that was a mind-boggling week on SO many levels.

I share it all on my blog today. :D
Plus, 20+ new images from the GFX. OMG, what a camera... and paintbrush! Swoon.

I was incredibly fortunate to be one of 6 people in the U.S. testing and creating images with it last month. It is truly "all that."

Waterby: Truckee, CA
Tomorrow, I've a brand new MONSTER blog post going live with a ton of images from the brand new Fujifilm GFX 50S! www.karenhutton.com/blog.

I'll post it here too. Stay tuned!! :D

But for today, here is another yummy image from the small and mighty X-T20 camera and 16-55mm lens. A moody, wintery sort of offering, from the end of a moody winter's day here in the mountains.

All these new cameras and their capabilities continue to blow my mind. I'm not a techhie or anything, but I do love the right tool for the job! And I'm so incredibly grateful to Fujifilm for enabling me with INCREDIBLE tools to explore my creative vision... and hopefully, encourage you to go deeper into yours.

It's a magnificent journey we're on, my friends!

BTW... the price on the website reflects the discount. Next time... it'll be full fare!

I CAN'T WAIT!!
And I seriously... and joyfully... hope I get to see you there.

COVER PHOTO ALERT!
I did an interview for Fujifilm Magazine and my favorite natural wonder ended up on the cover! Sweet, sweet Lake Tahoe. She's a beauty, that one.

Here's the issue: http://us.fujifilmxmagazine.com/18/. You can download the app on your iPhone or iPad, it looks gorgeous on it!

My interview starts on Page 4... and includes a bunch of images that I'm so proud to share with this hugely enthusiastic global audience. Man, there's NOTHING as peppy as a Fujifilm fan, is there?

Color me grateful for about a thousand reasons today; this being just one of them.

I love making abstracts. I just do. Not all the time, but AT times, creating a good abstract is one of the most satisfying things.

Take this one. It was a hand-held (purposely) motion-blurred flower. Then in Photoshop, there were colors and textures (that I made myself as well) and light and layers and all kinds of yummy ingredients poured into the cauldren and stirred until done.

It's not something that'll ever get a 1000 Likes (or even a 100!)... but it's a division of art I love creating because it feels so in alignment with who I am. As easy and delightful to do as falling softly into vat of chocolate. Or clouds. Or whatever feels amazing to you. Even old jammies. Yeah, like that.
In fact... I named this one "Old Jammies".

Kidding.
I just wanted to say that. 😜

"Stillpoint": Lake Tahoe
Just a moment of peace. 'Cause who couldn''t use a splash o' THAT?
Pano taken at the beginning of last year... but to me, if feels timeless.
Every time I look at it, I feel my breathing slow down and deepen, my heart relax.

Stillpoint. I love that space.

Panorama taken with my X-T1, 16-55mm lens, sitting atop a lovely Really Right Stuff tripod and PG-01 mirrorless pano head. Awesomeness made simple. :D

Your Heartbeat: Kelowna, B.C.
You have to listen very carefully. Tune out the noise. Focus, inside and out. Hear. Your. Heart's. Desire. Only then can your can your soul say what it must - or perish. Accomplishing that is an art unto itself.

At +FujiLove LIVE on Feb. 25-26, 2017 in NYC (https://fujilove.com/live), my topic is Inspiration. I chose a mighty ambitious title for my presentation: "Inside-Out: Ignite Your Creative Fire and Shift Everything."

See, I decided to lay it on the line. Take the whole conversation begun in my eBook and KelbyOne course; "Finding Your Artistic Voice"... and blast it into a whole new orbit.

Will I pull it off? Come find out. ;)

Formation: Truckee, CA

Out of the fragments of time and partial notions, in a crowded world of those who look like you but couldn't be more different, amidst repetitive sugar-coated mouth noise and confusion arise new ideas.
Brilliant notions.
Keen observations.
Mind-bending connections.
Opportunities to choose life-altering "this's" or "that's" at each turn.

Coming soon to a reality selection near you.
Or now, should you so choose.

More or less a direct quote from a message barely heard in a snowy forest one day before dark.

Suddenly it felt like I was inside a a storybook, heading down a path leading... somewhere really cool.

NEW BLOG POST ALERT! (http://karenhutton.com/betatesting)

It's been an epic winter so far. Challenging, but epic. Heck, I think our several year drought might even be over this year, though we'll see...

It's been a wonderful AND challenging time to beta test spankin' new cameras too! Wonderful because of scenes like this... challenging because it was literally impossible at times to go anywhere during the time I had to work with.

I get asked what that's like - beta testing cameras - so I decided to write blog post sharing a bit about the experience, along with some of my initial thoughts about this feisty, mighty little camera.
Find it here: http://karenhutton.com/betatesting

PS... I was the ONLY person beta testing this camera in the U.S., which wasn't ANY pressure at all! 😬

Silhou-ice: Mt Rose, NV
When my new and mightily talented friend and videographer +Justin Majeczky and I were making the video for the Fujifilm X-T20 (https://youtu.be/j28DzUSREyo?list=PLlWO-2S-UogpvOPVskaykAdyEM78vlQWL), we hiked up to this spot on the Mt. Rose summit trail (elev. 9,000 ft) for sunset. And yeah, I'll admit to some huffing and puffing along the way!

Timing was critical, so I didn't stop for too many photos along the way... but couldn't resist this one, peeking through the trees just as we got to the clearing. It was a stunning day... and this was BEFORE the 25 feet that have dropped in this area since then!

This was handheld, but in the video (as in life) I used my Really Right Stuff TQC-14 tripod, which is always with me.

Here's a Bobcam view of one of my fave spots up on Donner Summit in California. This was BEFORE the 20+ feet of snow they've gotten at this elevation over the past 2 weeks! Now that I'm home for awhile (had a bit of traveling over the past week and half)... and we have a break in Snowmageddan action, I'll get up there soon and see what it looks like now!

As you can imagine, Bob (my +DJI Phantom 4 quadcopter) has been staying safe 'n snug in his backpack while all the craziness went on. At one point during the first week's storm, winds over the ridgetops were clocked at 176mph! And I think snow totals since it all started around Jan. 7 are knocking on 25 feet or so.

But... gotta run... my snowblower awaits! During the week I was gone we got another 4 feet of snow at our house. On top of the 3-4 feet that were already there. It settles, so it probably only... more »

So... I've had a beta version of the Fujifilm X-T20 in my hands for the past couple of months. In fact, apparently I've been the ONLY person in the U.S. with one! Been taking LOTS of photos with it - which I'll be sharing soon.

It's an amazing little beast, which is quite an upgrade from the X-T10: it's still small in-hand, but has the same 24-megapixel X-Trans III sensor as my X-T2, uses interchangeable lenses (I used my regular quiver of lenses), 4k video at both 30fps and 24fps, Touchscreen to focus and/or shoot, plus all the knobs and buttons of the X-T10 if you just wanna go down that road. Feisty!

A few weeks ago, my friend and fabulous videographer Justin Majeczky trekked up Mt. Rose in Nevada after a snowstorm for some footage of the X-T20 in action. Me in my happy place! It just got released by Fujifilm today. Check it out...

My great friend +Valerie Jardin asked me to be with her on her very first episode of her hugely successful podcast of 2017 last week... and of course I said YES!

We talked about our successes and struggles and things we want to change in our respective worlds in 2017. Chatted about projects, social media and a few peeves. Not scripted, not planned... just a conversation like so many we've had before. Only this time, you're invited to listen in!

Feel free to share!

While this wasn't from today... it was just the other day right before the rains washed all that snow away and this very river flooded just yesterday.

Snowing heavily and steadily now.
We're big on do-overs around here.

Minimalized: Truckee, CA

Snow in the winter simplifies everything. Separates the men from the boys - and the elements. It's harsh, challenging and gorgeous. Life in a small mountain town is like that too. Nature runs the show here and she'll give you a little slap every now and then to remind you of that fact. She loves to be admired, loved - and respected. In return, she gives you a place to pray, every day.

Thanks, Mother Nature for the reminder of the Power of Simple.

OK, out of season I know. But it's snowing again, so it's Christmas in my heart!
This was out by Lake Tahoe last week. Now we're getting enough white stuff that they'll be able to take the training wheels off the sleigh! Wheeeee!!

"Down The Snow Stream": Truckee, CA

Here's one from the other day when it was snowing. I showed you a cool pic from Bob (my quadcopter) looking down on this area a couple of days ago... this is what was going on at ground level. It was a super yummy delicious wintery wonderium!

I took this with my trusty Fujifilm X-T2 and 16-55mm lens. Weather-sealed is the ticket! And they really, truly are. I did use a cheap grocery store plastic bag as a bit of protection, but honestly I didn't need it. It was just to make me feel better. ;)

Have I mentioned lately how grateful I am to be working with this gear?? It's inspiring, surprising, versatile and kicks proverbial buttsky in the imagery department. I count my blessings every single day.

More snow coming next week - woohoo!! You know where I'll be... Woot!!

Spanking' new blog post! www.karenhutton.com/OmarAlex

When I was in New York City a couple of weeks ago, I spent a day with Omar Z. Robles and Alexandra Jacob, creating dance as art in the streets of NY. It was amazing - and balm for my soul.

THANK YOU, Omar for letting me tag along!

Huge gratitude to you both for sharing your art and your hearts with me. You'll never know how much it meant.

A River Snows Through It: Truckee, CA

I flew Bob in the snow the other day. I mean active snowstormy goodness! Of course, you can't tell that in this photo so you'll just have to take my word for it. Snow. Flakes. Coming. Down.

This was around dusk during the storm. I found a new (to me) area to photograph on the ground - and it was SO COOL to check it out from above too. I had cameras going at all altitudes! It pretty much rocked.

Bob and I had to head up to 9000' the other day to find snow. Such is our season so far! But find it we did... and I sent him out to see what was over yonder trees and hills.

No two ways about it; Central Park is my happy place in New York. This is a grand, wonderful city. But any time I need to feel more grounded, peaceful and in my 'zone', I hit the park.

But there's always a moment of peace in the park.

Verdantly Verdant: Sierra Foothills, CA
Earlier this year, the hubs and I did a rekkie into an area of the Sierra Nevada gold country foothills that we hadn't really visited much before. It was another world! An incredibly green, vivid stretch of the road had me hitting the brakes every quarter mile, it seemed. Heh.

I don't know why I haven't posted any of them until now... but hey, it's always fun to find purty pitchers you'd forgotten about. It's like Christmas for your eyeballs!

Taken with my X-T1, and trusty 16-55mm lens...
along with +LucrOit filter holder and Lee 10-stop ND filter...
supported lovingly by my +Really Right Stuff TQC-14 tripod and BH-40 ballhead. ;)

#Grateful.

"Sunset Over Mt. Rose." It may not seem like it, but this is a scene I'd never be able to see if it weren't for Bob. Trees obscure it from the road... and if you were on a snowmobile, you'd be down in the trees.

After wondering for years what it looked like over top of said trees - I sent Bob up over the tops of them to check it out. I Oooh'd and Aaah'd out loud at what I saw - and at the view with Lake Tahoe in the background. I didn't stay out very long - it was in the low 20's F - but it was SO COOL to check out the sunset from a vantage point I'd only ever dreamed of before!

Bob rocks. Thanks DJI.

Bob's First Snow: Mount Rose, NV
It's a start!! We had a bit of snow (not alot yet, but it's coming)... so I took Bob out yesterday to see how we fared in cold weather flying.

Result: My hands were FREEZING!! Gotta work that part out a bit better. But Bob flew like a champ. I got to lay eyes on an area I'd NEVER get to see otherwise... who knew there was a snowmobile track down there?? I'm a sucker for these straight-down tree shots, so gird your loins for more of those this winter. HeeHee.

Thank you, +DJI... for the opportunity to re-discover my world and open my mind to new possibilities!

One Tahoe Afternoon: Lake Tahoe, NV
Looking back to this summer's day with Bob. It was delightful, sublime. We basked in the warmth of the sun, he showed me his view of things. I was still getting used to not getting vertigo every time he soared really high. Do quadcopters laugh? I think they do.

Soon... you'll be seeing images of all this covered in snow!
Can. Not. Wait!!!

Life with a Quadcopter Called Bob. It's epic.
