I have (properly censored) screen captures of my Google #Glass  purchase process that I can share to help everyone enjoy what it's like, but I don't have Google's permission and I don't see that anyone else has done this yet (except for excitedly posting their purchase receipts). Google Wallet Gmail Money Transfer Feature An Epic Fail For Me

I received some currency in gmail and went through the Google Wallet process of trying to claim it. After Wallet asked me some security questions, several which only offered incorrect answer choices, it's now requiring I send in photocopies of my driver's license and utility bill. So far I'm discouraged by this process as it is proving more complex than setting up my premium paypal account and is at risk of failure.

NOTE: This is not me trying to open a new Google Wallet account. I already have one and LOVE it! This is a new feature for exchanging Wallet currency using gmail.

UPDATE: The system won't activate this feature for me unless I send an image of my driver's license, SSN card, and a utility bill. It is locked in this mode and will not go back to more security... more »

[On the new Healthcare Bill Starting in 2014] Employers do not get fined if a worker does not purchase coverage. The employee does, however pay a $95 fine in 2014 for not carrying coverage (that would rise to $695 by 2016). So there is a fee to pay for not buying that coverage.

That is ridiculous. Where in the US Constitution does it say you can fine citizens who do not pay money for a service or product they don't want or may not need? That's like going to jail for not breaking the law. And if you can't afford the coverage, you are fined for not being able to afford it? This fine is not going to get paid by many Americans and is going to prove unenforceable.

I also doubt any employer is going to take and savings from a lower cost of providing insurance and return it back to their employee's paycheck.

See What You Look Like Wearing Google Glass

Not perfect but fun. You have to remove any glasses you are wearing for it to work however.

I'm surprised #Google  Hangouts don't have a "Google Glass" item in the Hangout effects toolbox. (+chee chew ). WOuld make it funny trying to pick who really was wearing Glass versus the poser.

To all you web GUI designers ... hovering over an item waiting for it to appear is actually worse and slower than having it always present as extra real-estate. Plus that works poorly on touch screens so you can't create a consistent GUI experience. Never create a core dependency on hover. ALSO never place a clickable item directly over the hover item, as that creates a bunch of erroneous clicks!

But this same legislature (Gary Howell) dismisses all Glass privacy fears, saying he "[doesn't] anticipate regulating the device any further in other circumstances", noting "If I'm in a public space, I have no expected right of privacy.", and the importance of personal liberty by saying "I wear seatbelts religiously but I don't believe in seatbelt laws." Twice this week I stood in front of a room of about 20 people and explained the wonders and challenges of Google Glass, once as part of a Google I/O extended session. I wish +Project Glass there was away I could register as a developer and pick up my Glass now. Perhaps +Robert Scoble or +Trey Ratcliff or +Vic Gundotra can put in a word for me - It's hard promoting something I can't demonstrate. There's even a Google office in Celebration FL. #ifihadglass  I'd be better at Google PR ;-)

UPDATE: The kind folks at #Google  have begun letting the #ifihadglass  people begin their purchases and I'm going to be picking my Glass up on 5/29.  Please ignore my borderline whining :-)

Google+ Mobile App (iOS) Doesn't Obey Large Font Settings Or Your G+ Columns settings

Needless to say I'm having a very challenging time using the mobile app on my iPad. Can barely read text and comments. This is what happens when you display in box objects, and don't you have programmers on your team older than 40.

It's also in multi-column mode despite my account settings specifying single column mode, which lends itself to smaller fonts.

Google Chat/Hangout List

Anyone know how I can set my Hangout List and Google Chat/Talk list in Gmail to only show the contacts or circles I care about? I can't find any customization settings that will allow me to view only people who I have a specific relationship with. In fact Hangouts are showing me people that I have no relationship with at all.

It's Now Easier To Mute People, And Harder To Mute posts

UPDATE: The "mute post" is still there but has been moved to the bottom of the notification, in the lower right. It doesn't make sense this would be different, since it's in the menu of the stream post,  plus it was in the menu before and we're all use to it. It also doesn't make sense to encourage muting people over posts because it's easier. "Mute Post" should always be in the menu no matter how you view the article.

Seems that I can no longer mute a post directly from the desktop notification box (haven't look at the mobile app yet). "Mute Post" there has been replaced by "mute <profile name>". Most of the time I just need to mute  a post not everything by the individual, and the notification box is a per-post notification system so thatm... more »

I've Switched My G+ Stream To Single Column

I quickly got tired of not being able to read or locate posts in chronological order, so I've switched my Google+ stream display to a single column. While the multi-column format was visually attractive, it makes timelines harder to follow. This is the same reason I stopped reading my Facebook stream except as email notifications and direct links. I now have a lot of empty space on my screen, as the G+  column is a fixed width and no longer autosizes to fill the screen. It took me a while to figure out how to set single column. Although the Google IO presentation mentioned you can change it, I could not locate a "number of columns" preferences setting [Note: This is because I was in "profile" mode -- see update]. I had to enable the "accessibility" box.

The lesson here is that police will confiscate your electronics, even if they have no legal basis to do so, then try to coerce you into accessing them if you are smart enough to password protect them, which they also have no legal basis to do so.

But here's a man who refused to allow them to do that. Not much different than what Eric Faden did a few weeks ago. Except he was forced to hire a lawyer.
