Matt Shalvatis34,844*Calling Photographers and Artists:  Join us at the Weekend Art Marketplace.* If you’ve posted in the marketplace already, just read the (NEW) section.  If you’re a first-timer here, please take a few minutes to read the whole post.  THANKS!   *(NEW) --->  New this week.* The marketplace will open early this weekend.  If it’s Friday where you are, the market is OPEN.  Post away (within the limits).   Until the end of the year, please also use the following tags when you post.  #Christmas #ChristmasGift.  These should be popular and should draw extra attention to your work and the Marketplace.  PLEASE!  It’s very important to share this event.  You can either use the “Invite” function within this event, or share this event to your circles.   (NEW) --->  End of the NEW section.   …………………………………………………………………… *Just what is Weekend Art Marketplace?*   This weekend, November 23 - 25, and every weekend thereafter, is the Weekend Art Marketplace.  So what is it?  It’s a time where G+ artists share their art with a worldwide G+ audience, and G+ art buyers can see what the community has to offer.  *Ooh, ooh, I’m an artist.  Can I participate?*   Yes, you sure can!   See the Rules for Marketplace Participation below.   *What kind of art is suitable for the marketplace?* Photography, Drawings, Digital Art, Paintings, Wood Carvings, Music, Sketches, Caricatures, Cartoons, Origami, Poetry, Books, and no doubt others.  It’s all good!  *Why participate in this marketplace?* Look at it this way.  If you’re not in a marketplace, you’re a lone seller on an empty side street.  When you join up with other artists in a marketplace, you’re in a big store on the main highway, where 100 times more people can view your work.  Is that enough of a reason?   *So, how do I participate?*   To list an item in the marketplace, do this: • Get the URL you want to display from your personal website, or from the website you sell from, whether it’s Zenfolio, Smugmug, FineArtAmerica, or another. • Go to Google Plus, go to your “Share what’s new” box.  Click the link icon, paste in the URL from step one.  Your artwork should display in the photo area.  Or for a better viewing experience, upload a larger version of the photo from the photo link.  Don’t forget to put the website address in the G+ post!   • If possible, just give your audience a bit more information about your art.  Information the viewer might find useful or interesting.  What are they seeing?  What was your inspiration?   • Feel free to create a Limited Time Promotion for your Google Plus viewers.   • Add the tag #WeekendArtMarketplace. • Add +Matt Shalvatis to your circles.  My name is for future updates and other features, like shared circles.   *Rules for Market Participation.* • Remember that you are not selling here on Google Plus; you must link to another website where you sell your work.   • If you have less than 50,000 followers here on Google Plus, you can post five items per weekend.Weekend Art Marketplace2012-11-22 23:00:0047

As the year is drawing to a close -- and out of the depth of my slow, painful, and revelatory year review -- I want to share with you this painting -- this beginning of a painting. The last one of 2016, but it will most certainly spill over to 2017. Its title is "Gaia [Self-Portrait] December in Coyote Hills" -- this title just insisted on itself, complete with the punctuation.

And by the way, yes -- December is about the only month when we have the green grass of spring here in California. By February, it is likely to brown... -- but who knows, in this changing climate.

A bad photo, but my version of "The return of the prodigal son" is complete. Come weekend, we'll make a proper photo, and I'll start looking for a place to donate it to. I imagine a place where people live through difficult, perhaps dark, times -- a nursing facility? a hospice? a prison, perhaps -- or some sort of shelter? I don't know -- I have some ideas, but I would really appreciate help with this one. If you know of a place where this painting can do its work, please get in touch with me. The painting is 60"x48".

Then hate me when thou wilt; if ever, now;
Now, while the world is bent my deeds to cross,
Join with the spite of fortune, make me bow,
And do not drop in for an after-loss:
Ah! do not, when my heart hath 'scaped this sorrow,
Come in the rearward of a conquered woe;
Give not a windy night a rainy morrow,
To linger out a purposed overthrow.
If thou wilt leave me, do not leave me last,
When other petty griefs have done their spite,
But in the onset come: so shall I taste
At first the very worst of fortune's might;
   And other strains of woe, which now seem woe,
   Compared with loss of thee, will not seem so.

William Shakespeare. Sonnet 90. #sonnetsincolour
