CK Wylde1,228A Circle Share Of Crazy People - Also Known As WritersI've not really shared circles before but every time +Brian Buckley does it I end up with fantastic new people in my feed.  So I thought I would share my writer's circle with you all. In it you will find  a bunch of G+ Writers and people who have to do with writers (publishers for instance).  WarningI tried this a little earlier and had a couple of people say they couldn't see the people in the circle. Simona AN23,183+Todaysmemory THANK YOU CircleSince last year, I started to post memories of the day - celebrations, great people in painting, sculpture, music, dance, literature, film, science, etc. A tribute to the people who have left a mark in history, an international celebration, all with a short summary. I named these posts Today's Memory. When I saw that my memories captured attention, I create a page, +Todaysmemory (with big help from my friend +Angela Ghinea) and I discovered a lot of people with the same tastes and posts. Here's a BIG THANK YOU Circle with the best friends and Sources of +Todaysmemory.  A group of extremely interesting people, if you add them you won't regret! If you like the memories, I invite you to send, with hashtag #todaysmemory  and curator me, +Simona AN everything you think deserves your tribute! Nina Pelletier11,765I have been requested to share my writers circle many times over the last year, but I never felt right doing it. After 2 emails I received yesterday asking so kindly that I share it yet again, I figured it's time to do so.I have over 500 writers in my writers circle because, hey, that's why I'm here right? But sadly only 500 of them can be shared at once. So you won't get all of the wonderful writerly people I have met on this lovely world we call Google+, but here are 500 of them.  Enjoy and share. If I've missed any writers, please feel free to add them in the comments below.Thank you to this awesome community of literary quirkiness and genius. ♥  #writershelpingwriters   #writers  2012-09-12 15:13:0750121411

Meilani MacDonald2,935Small Business circle 2 of 2Hello small business peeps! I'm a small biz person and naturally I want to connect with other small biz owners. I really feel we all have so much to share with each other and to learn from one another as we navigate this world called Google+ that provides us with so many great tools and resources to support our small biz efforts. I also think it's a good thing to support each other, and lift each other up as we work towards our goals. So I've been collecting small biz people and shared small biz & entrepreneurs circles, because those are the people I most want in my own circles, to follow, to connect with, and to support. I have 700+ small bizzes in my circle, so I've split it into two circles to share with you. This is #2 of the 2. Let's hear it for small business!Btw, speaking of supporting small bizzes, I host a TGIF Biz Networking Hangout every Friday at 4pm pst, now a Hangout on Air. It is a chance to give yourself and your biz a little promo, and I feature special guests who are small biz owners and who have all kinds of good advice and info to share with other small biz owners. Please check my profile for more info or to watch last Friday's episode, where we talked about QR codes and great ideas for how to use them, and also talked about the value of keeping content fresh on your blogs and web sites, and when and why to blog, or not to blog. #smallbusiness #entrepreneur #sharedcircles +CircleCount +Shared Circles Shared a Circle with You +Shared a Circle with you2012-05-28 18:24:39330211318
Rob Gordon22,157*Entrepreneurs, Self-Employed & Small Business OwnersUPDATED SHARED CIRCLE: Part 1 of 2: A through L (by last name).Link to Part (M-Z):         http://goo.gl/0Fcg1Link to Supplemental 1: http://goo.gl/AXXrWLink to Supplemental 2: http://goo.gl/TZKKeLike to Supplemental 3: http://goo.gl/3x6hINOTE:  This circle is no longer maintained in its present form but is still a good place to start if you are looking for entrepreneurs to follow and connect with here.  It has mostly been replace with a Google+ community of the same name that you can find at http://goo.gl/ejG9P**********************This is the most recent update to the popular "entrepreneurs" circle that posted a few months ago. As you can see, it has gotten bigger than 500 people so I have had to split it alphabetically into two parts. These two circles includes the self employed, small business owners, independent contractors, small startup companies and pretty much anyone trying to make it outside of the traditional economy. This is different from the other business circles of this type in that it doesn't include too many of the "celebrity entrepreneurs" and instead has mostly people with their own business or venture. There are more than 800 people here, but this has been reviewed extensively since it was last published -lots of fantastic new people have been added, and some have been dropped - mostly because they don't interact much. The end result is a circle of really awesome business people who actively interact with others here and have a small business or entreprenueral mindset. This is a really diverse group and includes entrepreneurs of all stripes - some have well established ventures and are wildly successful, others are just getting started and haven't made it yet. As can be expected, it is a little tech heavy, but represents most industries and many different types of business. There are even a handful of people here who have traditional jobs, but seem to have an interest in small business issues and always seem welcome to help entrepreneurial efforts. The people in these circles post all manner of things - not just business, but all are smart and interesting people so I recommend that you check this out.I do want to add the disclaimer that this is in no way "definitive" - there are millions of entrepreneurs on Google+ and this is just a tiny fraction of them - the ones I have curated. It seems that about two seconds after I publish this I always remember someone I should have included so just me know if you think you should be here. I republish this periodically and generally add everyone who comments on the post.As with all circles of this size I would use some discretion in adding this - either update your existing circle, pick and choose the ones you like or use these as a trial circles - whatever works for you. I'm not even sure Google will let you add all this many names at once so you may have to come back if you want to add all of them. The technology for this is not perfect, but I am trying to do my part to help build a highly interconnected community of entrepreneurs here on Google+.I hope you find the people in this circle interesting.RobReshares welcome and appreciatedIMPORTANT: You don't want to follow people based on where their last name fits in the alphabit do you? Make sure you also take a look at the second part of this list:LINK TO PART II (M-Z): http://goo.gl/0Fcg1#smallbusiness2012-04-18 18:49:234401197169

Gabriel Fitzpatrick3,746Writers CircleA couple people have asked me to share a circle of writers because there apparently aren't enough of those. This is the first full one, and contains most of the writers whose posts and content I've found interesting and engaging (or at very least who haven't been so insufferable as to warrant an uncircling ^.^) If you aren't here, you may very well be in the second one. Don't jump to any conclusions :)2012-03-26 22:19:06499983
Meilani MacDonald1,201If the Circle Fits, Share It! - Entrepreneurs, Freelancers and Small BusinessWow, where to begin? This is exactly the circle I was looking for: entrepreneurs, freelancers and small business. I'll begin with a thanks to +Rahul Roy, whose always helpful posts of resources for new and wanting to be more active plussers pointed the way to www.CircleCount.com. That site turned out to be a great resource for finding shared circles defined by interest. There, I found +Rob Gordon's awesome entrepreneurs, freelancers and small business circle. I know it's a quality circle, as I noticed many of the folks in it are already in my circles, and I generally circle people who make posts I find to be useful, educational and enlightening. I hope you will find them as useful and enlightening as I have! #smallbusiness #freelance #professional #entrepreneur2012-03-24 00:26:5250111715
Rob Gordon18,830Entrepreneurs, Self Employed & Small Business. This is the latest update to my shared circle for "entrepreneurs" which includes the self employed, small business owners, independent contractors, small startup companies and pretty much anyone trying to make it outside of the traditional economy. This is different from the other business circles of this type in that it doesn't include too many of the "celebrity entrepreneurs" and instead has mostly people with their own small business or venture. Lots of time has been spent organizing this since it was first published - many new people have been added, and some have been dropped - mostly because they don't interact much. The end result is a circle of interesting business people who actively interact with others here and have a small business or entreprenueral mindset. I do want to add the disclamer that this is in no way "definitive" - there are millions of entrepreneurs on Google+ and these are just the ones I have curated. This still probably doesn't even include everyone in my own circles who are entrepreneurs or self employed so let me know if you want to be included. I republish this about once per month. This is a really diverse group of people that includes entrepreneurs of all stripes - some have well established ventures, some have startups that are just getting going and some are wildly successful. There are even a handful of people here who have traditional jobs, but seem to have an interest in entrepreneurial and small business issues. The professionals in this circle post all manner of things - not just business, but all are smart and interesting people so I recommend that you at least take a look. As with any circle of this size I would use some discretion in adding this - either pick and choose the ones you like or use it as a trial circle - whatever method works for you. I also recently learned that you can save circles to your Google contacts so you can save this information there even if you don't want to use this toward your 5000 limit. I hope you find the people in this circle interesting. I certainly do. RobReshares welcome and appreciated#sharedcircles#smallbusiness #entrepreneurs #startup2012-03-13 20:32:12500663852

"I am the mother of a gay son and I’ve taken enough from you good people. ... You have the audacity to talk about protecting families and children from the homosexual menace, while you yourselves tear apart families and drive children to despair. ..."
– Sharon Underwood, White River Junction, VT.

Although written in 2000, Underwood's letter to the editor of a local newspaper is as painfully relevant today as it was 15 years ago. This (a pot of Irish Breakfast tea, kept hot 'n cozy by my Union Jack tea cozy) always seems to happen when I'm writing about Halifax in the 1940s for Sarah's Year. Last time (exactly a month ago tomorrow!), it was for the first draft of the novel. Today, it's for the same series of scenes, but for the first draft of the screenplay.

You all know how I love to go to Starbucks to write. Well, one of the benefits of that routine is the Starbucks rewards program, which gets me all kinds of nifty discounts and freebies for my time and dollars spent there. If you're not part of the Starbucks rewards program, you might want to check it out. Do it using this link and you'll get a free drink (and I'll get some Starbucks stars toward a free drink, to support my writing habit!) –

Twenty years ago this week, just outside Canning, Nova Scotia, I began work on the 2nd draft of my novel, The MoonQuest. I couldn't know then that The MoonQuest would become the first book in a trilogy. I couldn't know then that I would adapt The MoonQuest and its Q'ntana Trilogy successors for the screen. I couldn't know then that The MoonQuest would be the first of 11 published books and that two decades and many lifetimes later I would be in the midst of writing my 4th novel and 12th book! What a journey!!

It was there, in a cozy 2nd-floor apartment that I penned the second draft of The MoonQuest. I write about the gifts and miracles of that time in Acts of Surrender: A Writer's Memoir. Pictured here, nestled in all that bucolic splendor, is the Pereaux Baptist Church, also mentioned in my memoir.

To experience the final fruits of that time, pick up The MoonQuest (and its Q'ntana Trilogy successors, The StarQuest and The SunQuest) today!

I'm very proud of these books, which have scored six awards and more than 40 five-star reviews on Amazon. I'm particularly thrilled that my screenplay adaptations of The Q'ntana Trilogy Books have been scooped up and are on their way to the big screen as The Q'ntana Trilogy Movies. The MoonQuest, by the way, was my first book (and screenplay)!

Look for all three books in paperback on most Amazon sites (www.amazon.com/author/markdavidgerson in the U.S.) and on my website (www.markdavidgerson.com/bookstore), as well as on all major ebook sites, including Google Play.

P.S. The fabulous book covers were designed by the uber-fabulous +Richard Crookes. If you need a cover for your book, he's your go-to guy! http://richardcrookes.co.uk

I don't often mention this book here because it's so different (on the surface) form my other books. But today I have to mention it, as it just received its newest five-star review on Amazon: "Excellent read: Great for spiritual upliftment [and] to help with one's spiritual journey."

• Look for The Book of Messages on Amazon/Kindle (and read its other rave reviews) at http://mybook.to/bookofmessages. You'll also find it in the Google Play, iBook, Nook and Kobo stores.

P.S. The great cover pic was shot by +Kathleen Messmer among the red rocks of Sedona, AZ, where the book was written.

Here's what I did today when I should have been writing! Although the previous iteration of my working cover for my Sara's Year novel was striking, it didn't capture the full time span of the story. The Westmount Greenhouse, on the other hand, shows up throughout Sara's Year's 50-year timeline. Also, the Creative Commons license on this image by Jean Gagnon not only frees me to use it, but to modify it...which I did. Of course, if I get back to Montreal before the book's final draft is finished, I'll have other options!

Carroll goes on to remind us that he's talking about black coffee, not such fat-heavy, sugar-laden, calorie-rich coffee drinks as a McDonald’s large mocha (500 calories, 17 grams of fat, 72 grams of carbohydrates), a Starbucks Venti White Chocolate Mocha (580 calories, 22 grams of fat, 79 grams of carbs), or a Large Dunkin’ Donuts frozen caramel coffee Coolatta (670 calories, 8 grams of fat, 144 grams of carbs).

Many thanks to my team of volunteer online researchers for helping to trigger many of the synchronicities chronicled in a recent blog post I wrote about my novel/screenplay-in-progress; the story is set largely in Montreal between the 1930s and 1980s and includes a series of key scenes set in postwar Halifax. Several of those synchronicities involve a couple of grand old movie palaces: the Palace in Montreal (pictured here) and the Capitol in Halifax. Read the blog post to discover how the Palace, the Capitol and other "meaningful coincidences" are playing out in my Sara's Year novel and screenplay – http://markdavidmuse.blogspot.com/2015/05/you-know-youre-writing-right-story-when.html

Every time I feel discouraged about Sara's Year, my novel/screenplay-in-progress (which is often), or doubtful about my ability to carry it off (which is even more often), another synchronicity presents itself to remind me that I am writing the right story. Read about the many "meaningful coincidences" that have shown up for me so far on this writing project in my latest blog post, "You Know You're Writing the Right Story When..."

Remembering family gatherings past on this Mother's Day. The geeky-looking guy on the far right is me; my mother is next to me. The redhead across from my mother is my sister. The occasion: a late 1960s Passover seder.

"Strong-willed, an odd blend of fear and fearlessness: that was Edith Plotnick Gerson Ravinsky. Edith was the English version of her Yiddish name, Esther. Although I never knew her as Esther, it’s as Esther that I like to imagine her: the biblical queen who risked everything to follow a higher imperative."

With the first novel-draft of Sara's Year complete (as of Wednesday), I am now returning to the story's barely started first screenplay-draft. (I had crafted the script's two initial scenes and its closing scene before deciding, back in February, to focus on the novel full-time.) My goal, to have first drafts of both novel and screenplay complete before the end of May  seemed an unrealistic when I set it. Now, though, it seems surprisingly possible!

Although it's been 11 months since I launched Sara's Year in a Santa Monica Starbucks, it's been only two months since I took those few pages and began seriously (again in Los Angeles) to turn them into a novel and screenplay.

Well, today I'm thrilled (and somewhat amazed) to announce that I finished a first draft of the novel this afternoon! This first draft is pretty skeletal, which will be helpful as I use what I've written to complete a first draft of my Sara's Year screenplay. After that, I will fill in all the gaps and expand this draft to regular novel length.

When I set a goal to have both first drafts – novel and screenplay – complete by the end of May, I was pretty skeptical that I could meet it. With the novel done and more than three weeks left in the month, I'm much more optimistic!

It looks like I'm on the home stretch of this first draft of Sara's Year: There's just one chapter and an epilogue ahead of me...at least as I see it now. Mind you, I still have lots of work ahead of me on this story: This first draft of the novel is pretty skeletal, so subsequent drafts will need some major fleshing out. Plus, I still aim to finish a screenplay adaptation of the story. So Sara's Year will be with me for a good while yet! For now, I'm at Starbucks (where else?), sipping an Americano and following my two main characters on the final leg of their journey.

Just finished watching Julie Andrews in Star, a somewhat fictionalized 1968 biopic about theater legend Gertrude Lawrence. If the film wasn't as good as I remembered (it's been quite a few years since I last saw it), it still had its delicious moments, especially the lavish costumes and even more lavish musical numbers. And in an oblique sort of way, it was research for Sara's Year, my novel/screenplay-in-progress. Oblique because Gertrude Lawrence was the original Anna Leonowens in Broadway's The King and I, and both Anna and The King and I (the film) play key roles in my story. Oblique, too, because Star ends before there is a King and I (probably because Lawrence died, suddenly, early in the original Broadway of the show.)

Wishing Theodore Bikel a happy 91st birthday! Before Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, Bikel was Broadway's first Captain von Trapp to Mary Martin's Maria in The Sound of Music. (My first experience of Theodore Bikel was the LP we had when I was growing up, of Bikel singing old Yiddish folk songs.)

A May Day reminder that life can change in an instant and that miracles are always present when are hearts and minds are open to them...from another May Day, 17 years ago...

"Beltane, celebrated May 1, is the Celtic feast of optimism and fertility. Although Dunnea’s version had no maypole, her blazing fire would have done the ancients proud. She had been secretly amassing wood for weeks and had been planning the event for even longer. Although invited, I almost didn’t go. I woke up that morning feeling depressed and not at all optimistic. By evening, I had shaken off enough of the pall to drive down to the Cathedral Rock area for the bonfire. When I arrived, the flames were already dancing up into the darkening sky. I saw no one I knew apart from Dunnea, so I sat off to the side. Fifteen minutes later, Kentia, recently split from her partner of six years, arrived with a woman friend. She scanned the crowd, picked me out and strode over. I hadn’t seen her since that brief introduction seven months earlier  but was still surprised when, not seeming to recognize me, she stuck out her hand and announced, “Hi, I’m Kentia.” Seven weeks later we were married."

A favorite story about mother on this, what would have been her 94th birthday...from my Acts of Surrender memoir...

"My favorite story, because it revealed a side of my mother that I had never witnessed, had my mother and her best friend, Sophie,  in their teens, strolling down Boulevard Saint-Laurent, then Jewish Montreal’s Main Street. This would have been in the mid-1930s, at the height of the Depression. As Sophie described it, a vagrant sitting on the curb grabbed my mother’s ankle. She shook it free and they continued on. After half a block, my mother stopped, spun around and marched back. Glaring at the vagrant, she kicked him hard, then returned to Sophie."

What could be better than to end a day's novel-writing with a palindrome word count? I was just closing the file on my computer when I glanced down and saw that I had stopped at 37,573 words on Sara's Year!

Note About the Photo – This is the not the final book cover. To be clear, I do not own the rights to this photo of Montreal's distinctive staircases. It comes from https://hammerphotography.wordpress.com and is only being used to keep me inspired as I move forward with the manuscript. In this moment, I have no idea what the final book cover will look like.
