In it you will find  a bunch of G+ Writers and people who have to do with writers (publishers for instance).  WarningI tried this a little earlier and had a couple of people say they couldn't see the people in the circle. If you can't please let me know, I'm trying to figure out why that might be happening. Also, if you happen to know why that happens I am all ears.If you want to be included in this circle, also plese let me know.  #writers   #circleshare   #circles  2013-11-18 20:32:284401519

Simona AN23,183+Todaysmemory THANK YOU CircleSince last year, I started to post memories of the day - celebrations, great people in painting, sculpture, music, dance, literature, film, science, etc. A tribute to the people who have left a mark in history, an international celebration, all with a short summary. I named these posts Today's Memory. When I saw that my memories captured attention, I create a page, +Todaysmemory (with big help from my friend +Angela Ghinea) and I discovered a lot of people with the same tastes and posts. Here's a BIG THANK YOU Circle with the best friends and Sources of +Todaysmemory.  A group of extremely interesting people, if you add them you won't regret! If you like the memories, I invite you to send, with hashtag #todaysmemory  and curator me, +Simona AN everything you think deserves your tribute! Nina Pelletier11,765I have been requested to share my writers circle many times over the last year, but I never felt right doing it. After 2 emails I received yesterday asking so kindly that I share it yet again, I figured it's time to do so.I have over 500 writers in my writers circle because, hey, that's why I'm here right? But sadly only 500 of them can be shared at once. So you won't get all of the wonderful writerly people I have met on this lovely world we call Google+, but here are 500 of them.  Enjoy and share. If I've missed any writers, please feel free to add them in the comments below.Thank you to this awesome community of literary quirkiness and genius. ♥  #writershelpingwriters   #writers  2012-09-12 15:13:0750121411

Meilani MacDonald2,935Small Business circle 2 of 2Hello small business peeps! I'm a small biz person and naturally I want to connect with other small biz owners. I really feel we all have so much to share with each other and to learn from one another as we navigate this world called Google+ that provides us with so many great tools and resources to support our small biz efforts. I also think it's a good thing to support each other, and lift each other up as we work towards our goals. So I've been collecting small biz people and shared small biz & entrepreneurs circles, because those are the people I most want in my own circles, to follow, to connect with, and to support. I have 700+ small bizzes in my circle, so I've split it into two circles to share with you. This is #2 of the 2. Let's hear it for small business!Btw, speaking of supporting small bizzes, I host a TGIF Biz Networking Hangout every Friday at 4pm pst, now a Hangout on Air. It is a chance to give yourself and your biz a little promo, and I feature special guests who are small biz owners and who have all kinds of good advice and info to share with other small biz owners. Please check my profile for more info or to watch last Friday's episode, where we talked about QR codes and great ideas for how to use them, and also talked about the value of keeping content fresh on your blogs and web sites, and when and why to blog, or not to blog. #smallbusiness #entrepreneur #sharedcircles +CircleCount +Shared Circles Shared a Circle with You +Shared a Circle with you2012-05-28 18:24:39330211318
Rob Gordon22,157*Entrepreneurs, Self-Employed & Small Business OwnersUPDATED SHARED CIRCLE: Part 1 of 2: A through L (by last name).Link to Part (M-Z):         http://goo.gl/0Fcg1Link to Supplemental 1: http://goo.gl/AXXrWLink to Supplemental 2: http://goo.gl/TZKKeLike to Supplemental 3: http://goo.gl/3x6hINOTE:  This circle is no longer maintained in its present form but is still a good place to start if you are looking for entrepreneurs to follow and connect with here.  It has mostly been replace with a Google+ community of the same name that you can find at http://goo.gl/ejG9P**********************This is the most recent update to the popular "entrepreneurs" circle that posted a few months ago. As you can see, it has gotten bigger than 500 people so I have had to split it alphabetically into two parts. These two circles includes the self employed, small business owners, independent contractors, small startup companies and pretty much anyone trying to make it outside of the traditional economy. This is different from the other business circles of this type in that it doesn't include too many of the "celebrity entrepreneurs" and instead has mostly people with their own business or venture. There are more than 800 people here, but this has been reviewed extensively since it was last published -lots of fantastic new people have been added, and some have been dropped - mostly because they don't interact much. The end result is a circle of really awesome business people who actively interact with others here and have a small business or entreprenueral mindset. This is a really diverse group and includes entrepreneurs of all stripes - some have well established ventures and are wildly successful, others are just getting started and haven't made it yet. As can be expected, it is a little tech heavy, but represents most industries and many different types of business. There are even a handful of people here who have traditional jobs, but seem to have an interest in small business issues and always seem welcome to help entrepreneurial efforts. The people in these circles post all manner of things - not just business, but all are smart and interesting people so I recommend that you check this out.I do want to add the disclaimer that this is in no way "definitive" - there are millions of entrepreneurs on Google+ and this is just a tiny fraction of them - the ones I have curated. It seems that about two seconds after I publish this I always remember someone I should have included so just me know if you think you should be here. I republish this periodically and generally add everyone who comments on the post.As with all circles of this size I would use some discretion in adding this - either update your existing circle, pick and choose the ones you like or use these as a trial circles - whatever works for you. I'm not even sure Google will let you add all this many names at once so you may have to come back if you want to add all of them. The technology for this is not perfect, but I am trying to do my part to help build a highly interconnected community of entrepreneurs here on Google+.I hope you find the people in this circle interesting.RobReshares welcome and appreciatedIMPORTANT: You don't want to follow people based on where their last name fits in the alphabit do you? Make sure you also take a look at the second part of this list:LINK TO PART II (M-Z): http://goo.gl/0Fcg1#smallbusiness2012-04-18 18:49:234401197169

Gabriel Fitzpatrick3,746Writers CircleA couple people have asked me to share a circle of writers because there apparently aren't enough of those. This is the first full one, and contains most of the writers whose posts and content I've found interesting and engaging (or at very least who haven't been so insufferable as to warrant an uncircling ^.^) If you aren't here, you may very well be in the second one. Don't jump to any conclusions :)2012-03-26 22:19:06499983
Meilani MacDonald1,201If the Circle Fits, Share It! - Entrepreneurs, Freelancers and Small BusinessWow, where to begin? This is exactly the circle I was looking for: entrepreneurs, freelancers and small business. I'll begin with a thanks to +Rahul Roy, whose always helpful posts of resources for new and wanting to be more active plussers pointed the way to www.CircleCount.com. That site turned out to be a great resource for finding shared circles defined by interest. There, I found +Rob Gordon's awesome entrepreneurs, freelancers and small business circle. I know it's a quality circle, as I noticed many of the folks in it are already in my circles, and I generally circle people who make posts I find to be useful, educational and enlightening. I hope you will find them as useful and enlightening as I have! #smallbusiness #freelance #professional #entrepreneur2012-03-24 00:26:5250111715
Rob Gordon18,830Entrepreneurs, Self Employed & Small Business. This is the latest update to my shared circle for "entrepreneurs" which includes the self employed, small business owners, independent contractors, small startup companies and pretty much anyone trying to make it outside of the traditional economy. This is different from the other business circles of this type in that it doesn't include too many of the "celebrity entrepreneurs" and instead has mostly people with their own small business or venture. Lots of time has been spent organizing this since it was first published - many new people have been added, and some have been dropped - mostly because they don't interact much. The end result is a circle of interesting business people who actively interact with others here and have a small business or entreprenueral mindset. I do want to add the disclamer that this is in no way "definitive" - there are millions of entrepreneurs on Google+ and these are just the ones I have curated. This still probably doesn't even include everyone in my own circles who are entrepreneurs or self employed so let me know if you want to be included. I republish this about once per month. This is a really diverse group of people that includes entrepreneurs of all stripes - some have well established ventures, some have startups that are just getting going and some are wildly successful. There are even a handful of people here who have traditional jobs, but seem to have an interest in entrepreneurial and small business issues. The professionals in this circle post all manner of things - not just business, but all are smart and interesting people so I recommend that you at least take a look. As with any circle of this size I would use some discretion in adding this - either pick and choose the ones you like or use it as a trial circle - whatever method works for you. I also recently learned that you can save circles to your Google contacts so you can save this information there even if you don't want to use this toward your 5000 limit. I hope you find the people in this circle interesting. I certainly do. RobReshares welcome and appreciated#sharedcircles#smallbusiness #entrepreneurs #startup2012-03-13 20:32:12500663852

Of all the interviews I've done with authors over the years, one of my favorites was with +Michael Wiese. You may know Michael as founder of Michael Wiese Productions, publisher of more English-language books on film than anyone else in the world. But Wiese is also a modern-day shaman with profound insights to offer about writing, filmmaking and the creative process. Michael and I talked about all that, about his recent memoir and about his journey with Parkinson's Disease in this compelling video conversation.

Scifi writer Ray Bradbury once wrote (I wish I could remember where!) that whenever something he had written made him cry, he knew it was not only good but powerful. Yesterday, I read a chapter of Sara's Year, my novel-(and screenplay)-in-progress, aloud to a friend, and it took all the equilibrium I possess to get through it without breaking down and making a bawling, blubbering scene right in Starbucks! This has been a difficult story to write because it digs deep into so much of my past and both explores and expresses so many parts of who I have been and who I still am, Yet for just those reasons it's a story I have no choice but to get out of me and onto the page. At least, thanks to Ray Bradbury, I know I'm on the right track!

Took a break from Sara's Year today to do some consulting work on a client's book manuscript. Sometimes, it's nice to take a break from my own writing foibles to deal with someone else's! If all goes according to plan (does it ever!?), I'll be happily back on my own novel+screenplay-in-progress tomorrow.

Apple's Tim Cook on Indiana's so-called "religious freedom" bill, signed into law yesterday, and on a similar Arkansas bill, which is on the Arkansas Governor's desk (he has indicated that he will sign it). Hate and bigotry masquerading as freedom is no less hateful and bigoted. Legislative permission to discriminate has consequences for us all, just as it has throughout history.

Another Sara's Year first: I just wrote the final scene of the screenplay version of this new work-in-progress...even though I have barely begun writing the story's beginning in both novel and film script. Although I have written stories out of sequence before, I have never before written (or even known!) the ending this early on in the process. Now, if only "FADE OUT" really meant I was finished!

"Can you imagine walking up to a store window and seeing a sign that says, 'No LGBTQ People Allowed'. Would you want to support that retailer? What if it said, 'No Jews Allowed'? "Hate and bigotry wrapped in religious freedom is still hate and bigotry."
–  Todd Adams, associate general minister and vice president of the Indianapolis-based Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) on Indiana's so-called "religious freedom" legislation, which, in a throwback to the racist and segregationist laws of the 1950s, would legalize discrimination against gays and lesbians. The Indiana governor is expected to sign the bill into to law tomorrow.

After trying to make sense of the complex interrelationships of three generations of characters and a timeline that spans more than half a century, I finally resorted to something I've never done before in my fiction: I created a spreadsheet-cum-timeline for Sara's Year, my novel+screenplay-in-progress; it maps out births, marriages, divorces, deaths and other key events...ensuring that I don't, for example, kill off parents before their kids are born! Although much in this chart is sure tp change over the course of this and future drafts, it has already cleared up a few contradictions and anomalies! Back to actual writing tomorrow...

Well, my passport-renewal package is on its way to the Canadian passport office in Gatineau, Quebec...which means I could be free to make a trip back to the old country as early as later this spring for novel+screenplay research on Sara's Year. (The story is set in Montreal and spans the 1930s to the 1980s.) Strangely, in what can only make sense to FedEx, it was cheaper to send it overnight than it would have been for two-day service!

Getting my passport pic taken. Much more complicated when you're a Canadian in the U.S., as Canadian and U.S. requirements are quite different and most U.S. places don't know what to do. But if I'm going to return to Montreal on a research visit for my Sara's Year novel+screenplay, I've got to get my passport renewed!

When it was time to release an updated edition of my award-winning first book for writers, The Voice of the Muse: Answering The Call to Write, I had a tough choice: stay with ethereal and inspiring muse of artist +Richard Crookes's  original design or go for something new. In the end, I decided that a new look for what was almost a new book (now one-third longer than the original) was in order. So I went with another of the great portraits of me shot by +Kathleen Messmer – this one overlooking Malibu’s El Matador Beach

The good news is that Richard’s design lives on: on the cover of The Voice of the Muse Companion recording, both the CD and the MP3 download.

We each need to get in touch with compassion and recognize we're all in the same ecosystem...and love each other, whether it's by divine nudging or simple recognition that discord, ugliness and self-righteousness will get us nowhere."

Photo: My parents in 1941, just before or soon after they were married.

This week marks the 31st anniversary of my mother's death (my father died 16 years earlier), and it's sobering to realize that I have now lived longer without living parents in my life than I did with them.

To honor the anniversary, I offer this excerpt from Acts of Surrender: A Writer's Memoir, a remembrance of the day of her death, March 26 1984...

"If my mother's soul had already vacated her body, I am certain now that it had not yet left the room. I didn’t believe in souls and spirits in those days, but in revisiting that scene as I write this, I know that the limp hand I held was somehow also holding mine, that the Esther she had once more become was waiting to be sure that my sister and I were all right before moving on. She had waited, too, to die — choosing her moment with the same care and precision she had applied to so much of her life. My mother could have died at any time. Instead, she waited until I was in Montreal and, on that day, waited until she had seen her daughter. Then, she waited until both her children had left the room, either so that we would be spared the trauma of seeing her die or she would be spared the trauma of leaving us."

With this new novel I'm writing, I finally surrendered this afternoon to something I never had to do when writing The Q'ntana Trilogy Books (The MoonQuest, The StarQuest, The SunQuest), despite their weird, apostrophe-laden names: I put together a sort-of spreadsheet of names and family relationships. In The MoonQuest, my biggest problem was that characters' names kept changing, sometimes multiple times, through the first draft (and beyond). With Sara's Year, multiple characters had ended up with the same first name and multiple unrelated characters were carrying the same last name...causing me no end of confusion as I moved forward. So serious action was required to un-befuddle me! Now, with this modified and in-process grove of family trees, I'm back on track and will return to writing tomorrow!

I was back at work this afternoon on Sara's Year, my new novel, after a few days off to recover from a character's shocking (at least to me) revelation on Friday. That's what happens when "characters" are, to the author, real people who reveal themselves and their story only as it falls onto the page through the writing of them. It's a wonderful gift from the Muse... though it can certainly feel like a curse some days!

"Each of my 11 books has found fresh challenges to throw at me, and this new novel  I'm writing is no different. From its scope to its research needs to its semi-autobiographical nature, it tests me in every moment – emotionally as well as creatively. And it dares me to trust more fully and deeply than I have ever before dared – to trust myself, to trust my abilities and to trust a story about which I know little, except as it writes itself through me..."

"Fiction is subjective: it comes from within the writer, and, not only that, the story itself is composed of a sequence of lies. The writer of fiction says to the reader only this: come with me on a journey of the imagination and I will try to show you something you have not seen before. This is the gift of the writer to the reader. The reader’s gift is to bring to this alchemy their own imagination and their own experiences."

Another afternoon with Sara's Year, my new novel-in-progress...and, with it, more surprises: It seems that with every day's writing I discover more about the characters and more about this story that has chosen me (God knows why) to write it. Today's installment mentions Baron Byng High School – the same high school that my mother and many Montreal Jews of her generation attended (including actor William Shatner, novelist Mordecai Richler and poet Irving Layton). I don't know whether the school in my story will remain Baron Byng or whether, like Richler before me, I will change its name for the final book. Whatever I do, anyone who knows the Montreal of that era will recognize it!

To them it is a spiral of misty tendrils with no fixed boundaries, where ages past and future curve alongside the present, sometimes overlapping, sometimes traveling side-by-side with no contact. Among my most popular photographs are these B&W vortex-like abstracts. Now, for the first time, I have collected my favorites into their own gallery. Whether you are already a fan and want to see the ones you've missed, are a potential fan and want to view larger versions or are tempted to get one for yourself, please check them out.

See the full selection at http://mark-david-gerson.artistwebsites.com/art/all/all/all/into+the+vortex. And keep checking back. I'll be adding new ones!

(They're sold as unframed prints, framed/matted prints, metal prints, canvas wraps, acrylic prints, greeting cards, phone cases and, yes[!] pillows.)

Just finished being entertained, moved and profoundly inspired by the fabulous Elaine Stritch in the 2013 documentary _Elaine Stritch: Shoot Me_. Stritch died 18 months after the film's release at age 89. Wherever she is now, I know Stritch is still as funny, touching, vulnerable and authentic as she was through her long career on Broadway, on both the small and big screen and in this film.

I'm not sure where I was in 2011 when Steven Spielberg's Tintin movie was released, but somehow I missed it. Hergé's Tintin books were my favorites as a kid and, by a strange literary coincidence that happens to also be true (as I discovered a few days ago)for one of the protagonists of this new novel I'm working! So as part of my research – and to reconnect with a childhood favorite – I'm in the midst of enjoying The Adventures of Tintin!
