Indonesia
17,000 islands & almost 260 million people

Indonesia is by all accounts one of the world's most populated nations with it´s soon to be 260 million strong population scattered across an astounding 17 000 islands. Another fascinating aspect of life in Indonesia is that in total its population is made up of over 300 different ethnic and linguistic groups that combined speak over 700 different languages.

The day Hiroshima burned, August 6, 1945
B-San and Hiroshima, Life and History

Rewind, for a brief moment time, and dial it back all the way to August 6, 1945. Slow your time travel down and set the clock at exactly fifteen minutes past eight in the morning, Japanese time. And what you will now get to experience if you look up at the sky is the moment when an entire world shivered in pain, fear, guilt, relief, anxiety, doubts, death and disgust. It is the moment when an atomic bomb lit up the sky above Hiroshima. The moment when Miss Toshiko Sasaki sat down at her place in the Hiroshima plant office turning her head to speak to the girl sitting right next to her.

It is today, 70 years since this day. A day still worth remembering for what happened, and as a warning for what could once again happen. Some have claimed it ended the war sooner, others that all the hundreds of... more »

Making love, off world
and the things you can also expect from your future romantic, space date

In our rapidly approaching near future and a few fortunate souls present day reality, the perplexing realities of dating off world will no longer be confined to the silvery screens of yesterday's.

Soon a rapidly growing number of people will be able to prepare and plan for romantic weekend dates out and away from Earth´s atmosphere. But beyond the tantalizing, and highly romantic aspect of kissing high up above as you look down back on this blue marble. What else is there to going off world?. What about the little every day things when you kiss, hold hands and make love beneath the stars, way out in space.

On another note. Talking about ancient beings and creating entire worlds.

I think we all deserve to say happy bday to Europes oldest tree. A grand Bosnian pine (Pinus heldreichii) in the north of Greece.

It has stood there, watching the titanic go under. World war 1 and 2. The fall of Rome, and the beauty of the Vikings. To think that it has on that harsh cliff it calls it home survived the chaos of life and nature, the greed and turmoil of humanity and all our lumberjacks.

At 1100 year I hope this grand old tree get to live another ten thousand years, or why not never die :).

So happy bday immortal tree :).

Individual health is global health, and vice versa
how to feed 10 billion people, make the planet, and people healthy turns out to be the answer

Farming 2.0 which makes use of both high tech advancements in technology and science, as well as sustainable, organic principles holds the key to feeding our global population while also preserving our planet.

In a study published earlier this year, scientists making use of 500 different food production scenarios focused in on the task of feeding a global population of 9.6 billion people without expanding our farmland footprint which we already use.

the conclusion

What the study found only strengthen what I have talked about for quite some time now, and that is that enough food can easily be produced by adopting organic and sustainable - high tech farming.

Making farming 2.0 something that benefits both your own and our planet's health.

In the study, the cold hard numbers showed the following.

Vegetarians:

If people started eating a more plant, fruit and berry based diet with much lower meat consumption.

Existing farmland would then feed 10 billion people with a 94% success rate without needing to expand at all upon our global food production footprint and with much lower resource drain and global pollution.

As a sidenote:

The much healthier food would also result in way healthier people, greatly improving everyday life for each person but also improve the global economy. And let´s not forget one very important thing here, the quoted 94% number would be much higher if food producers and consumers not only go green and sustainable as in the study but also adopt all the high tech aspects of farming 2.0, benefits that isn't included in the study.

Business as usual:

The same wasteful current day farming and food production would however only be able to feed 15% of the estimated 10 billion human population if the entire world adopted the red meat/crap food based Western-style diet.

super intense workouts need quite a lot of additional recovery
the science of a healthy life

Usually we healthy, fitness people talk and talk about all the healthy choices we can make in life as far as working out and eating go. And that is of course all well and good. People need daily activity and healthy food choices. But ample recovery and proper sleep is equal part important if improved health and fitness is of interest for you.

So, please be aware of how much more taxing it is for your recovery time if you decide to start doing super and giant sets like I did in my most recent biceps, triceps and abs workout.

As a general thumb of rule, born out of current scientific facts and not gym rat superstition, while your muscle normally recover more or less in full 48 hours after a challenging workout, it will take the same muscle at least 5 whole days to recover after the same workout if you use intense and challenging super or giant sets.

So, if you feel like doing your arms this week like a proper viking, do not forget that your arms will need an increase in recovery time as well, but if you are still up for it, hit the link for the full run down.

Short summary of the article

I decided to switch some minor things up, resulting in a wonderful and sweaty challenge.

After 5 set of close grip bench press for triceps I decided to create one giant set by combining dips ( triceps ) and barbell curls ( biceps ) with a special biceps pull up version of "hanging leg raises".

I repeated this giant set 3 times before finishing my workout with 3 set of biceps dumbbell curls for each arm ( no rest between sets for those dumbbells ) and one more set of hanging leg raises.

In addition, todays workout ended with 5 minute of sprint intervals and 20 minute of mma.

Quality of life, society, and Earth in one little Index.
Every day is Earth Day, the 2016 Environmental Performance Index and what it tells us about tomorrow

The Epi Index is measured across 9 important metrics which, when put together try to evaluate how well various nations perform during our modern day Anthropocene era.
Those areas are.
Health Impacts, Air Quality, Water and Sanitation.
Water resources, Agriculture, Forests, Fisheries, Biodiversity and Habitat.
And finally Climate and Energy.

The absolutely most interesting thing with the environmental performance index is without a doubt the combined quality of life impact that each nation has on a global scale since that is truly what the index evaluates. The absolutely most interesting thing with the environmental performance index is without a doubt the combined quality of life impact that each nation has on a global scale since that is truly what the index evaluates. That global impact is of course, what actually matters now that we live in this global era of Anthropocene. What you do, your way of life is not just locally important anymore. The things you guys do in your own city and country is not just about that small block or you and your neighbor. In our modern, connected world, for better and worse, what you and your city and country do, and how you conduct yourself matters globally for all of us.

Look at that, a better world with each passing day

Climate change, sustainability, individual health, the way we impact ourselves and each other. These are the real hallmarks of how well a nation is performing in our mutually shared modern day world. And that is how we as humans define our own shared future. Our mutual future of our global and individual well-being, healthy lives, food security, and clean air.

Poverty and hunger. Improved food quality and nutrition, Equality, improved health and longevity. Modern, clean energy, non-polluted safe water, cars and industries, and food producers that do not destroy our health and planet.

Climate change, in the words of UN Secretary-General Ban-Ki Moon, is the “defining issue of our era,”.

And he is right because all these things directly tie into each other. Just as how we as individuals, directly and indirectly, affect each other all around planet Earth.

So how about the 2016 environmental performance Index and what it tells us about life on this beautiful pagan plant.

tomorrow is gorgeous

Looking at the index we can see that between 2000 to 2014, Paraguay lost a bat shit crazy 24.6 percent of its entire tree cover, more than anywhere else on Earth. And that is certainly not how to do it. We need sustainable, thriving forests. Trees are vital when it comes to maintaining a thriving wildlife and a healthy nation. Healthy thriving forests are also crucial when it comes to mitigating climate change.

Gladly tho, Paraguay has, since 2012, seen a 40 percent decrease in tree cover loss, aided by the Zero Deforestation Law and other newly minted conservation initiatives.
However, to recover from the current situation that progress has to be maintained and incrementally improved even further upon.

And other nations all around the world, tells us about similar, positive changes in recent years. Take Costa Rica, Rwanda and all of Scandinavia for instance.

When it comes to climate and energy one of many positive standouts is Costa Rica which managed to achieve a 99 percent renewable energy generation already in 2015.

All while other nations like Rwanda still rely on charcoal and firewood which together accounted for 75 percent of the country’s 2012 energy consumption. Which is bad of course.

But

Rwanda do have an ambitious goal to provide it's entire population with 75% renewable energy no later than 2030.

And in the cold north, the Scandinavian nations are all doing very well when it comes to reaching 100% renewable energy production as soon as possible.
Right now Iceland leads the world with the lowest CO2 emissions per kWh indicator, with almost all of its electricity and heat generation derived from renewable energy sources. For natural reasons, geothermal energy provides more than 87 percent of Iceland's heat and hot water demand.

While it is true that much more can and needs to be done, worldwide, in every single nation, city, and village.

What I also see not just in the EPI index for 2016, but everywhere in the world, is wonderful progression towards something that can only be described as pretty amazing.

Just look at Rwanda and the immense change they will do in roughly 10 years time.

Things like this happen all over the world every single day.

There will always be some negative voices like Donald Trump in the world, there will always be those that would wish for the entire world to never progress.

But those voices have already lost.

Every single day we make progress towards a healthier and more sustainable world. A world that is more equal, less wasteful, more developed, efficient, safe and advanced, all at once.

Yes, it took us an awful lot of time to reach this turning point, but now we truly have. More needs to be done, much more. But every day we are one day closer to a much better world, and that progress towards a much better tomorrow is what I see in this years environmental performance index and the actions of various nations across the world.

So, who are the best nations in the world when it comes to those 9 essential and global metrics?

Well, I am proud to say that Scandinavia leads the world, claiming all 4 top spots with Iceland, Finland and Sweden being the only nations in the world with an EPI score above 90. But what truly matters is the fact that as a whole, the entire world is now rapidly improving on all these things that actually matters ( No Donald Trumps fearful dystopian ideas, they do not matter and best of all, that is not the future we are all building ).

Mutual symbiosis

The honeyguide bird led the way to the African bees’ nest 75% of the time

The researchers involved in the study soon concluded that when the human honey hunters special bird call was used, the honeyguide birds would around 75% of the time not just show up, but also lead the way to a proper bees’ nest.

But the question remained whether the 'honey hunters’ call specifically signaled to the birds that willing honey hunting people were around with the intent of finding honey. Or if it was simply a question of the birds noticing nearby people.

This is, after all, a wild bird species that long ago had noticed that it could all by their own calls and sounds actually summon people to help the birds deal with the bees. But had the bird now also learned to actually listen for people to signal in a proper way that 'yes', we are willing to go and find some honey right now.

“It seems to be a two-way conversation between our own species and a wild animal from which both those partners benefit,” Spottiswoode wondered.

“could this really be an example of reciprocal communication between humans and a wild animal?” the scientists wondered.

72 honey hunting adventures

To find out, the scientists involved in the study took part in 72 honey-hunting expeditions. During each of them one of three different sounds was played, one was the proper 'honey-hunters’ signal, while the other two sounds, were used as simple control sounds to try and see if there would be a statistically significant difference.

The researchers did conclude by the end of the study the honeyguides were more than twice as likely to lead the way when the proper “brrrr-hm” sound was used, compared to the two control sounds. The proper sound prompted the bird to not just show up, but to also guide the honey hunters to a succesfull honey hunt 75% of the time.

This should of course not really be that much of a surprise for anyone that has spent enough time with wild and domesticated animals. There are plenty of cases clearly showing animals quite rapidly picking up on the proper cues that this is a willing human being that it might prove beneficial to work with.

But it is of course very interesting to see such a large scale cross species symbiosis develop between humans and a wild bird species across a large part of Africa.

You see, the most fascinating aspect of all this is that the Yao honey hunters have their own specific calls for the honeyguides, while other African tribes have developed other sounds to signal to the birds. Something which the authors suggest, indicates that the honeyguides´ve developed their own local language and intepretation reflecting that of the humans they interact with.

Spottiswoode said
“This suggests that honeyguides seem to attach meaning, and respond appropriately, to the signal that specifically advertises people’s’ willingness to cooperate,” she said.

Stuart West, professor of evolutionary biology at the University of Oxford agrees.
“The honeyguide kind of understands what the human is saying,”
“If we think of domesticated animals, pets, and livestock, we can train them to respond to specific signals,” he added, “but to have something like that in a wild animal is quite special.”

And, as such the great honeyguide bird join the ranks of wolves and ravens which through their own free will and natural evolution have chosen to join the small ranks of wild animals working in mutually beneficial symbiosis together with us humans, while in every way there is remaining free and wild. A natural cooperation which we, in turn, have opted to respect and allow both species to benefit from in beautiful equality.

Something always beats nothing.

Always remember that.

And when those two days of lifting weights are supplemented by seven days of healthy food and 3 days of more intense and challenging cardio, such as yoga and martial arts, climbing mountains or flipping monster truck wheels the results will continue to add up and over time always persist.

Resulting in greatly lowered amounts of unhealthy body fat, while providing you with a strong and toned, feminine body that is both healthy, sexy and capable of athletic feats.

Weight lifting exercises for this workout plan consists of the following exercises.
Squats
Deadlift
Barbell standing row
Shoulder press
Bench press
Dips
Chins
Hanging leg raises
Lunges

WWF raising funds to buy a shark fishing license on the Great Barrier Reef to protect sharks
#shark #savesharks #sharkawarenessday #ocean #environment #Australia

Over the past ten years record numbers of sharks have been caught on the Queensland coast, causing catastrophic damage to the ocean ecosystem on the reef, evidenced by the increasing bleaching and dying of the Coral reef.
Of course sharks aren't the only factor - there are many detrimental forces negatively impacting the Reef. But sharks are vital to the ecosystem.

So the World Wide Fund for Nature is bidding to buy the fishing license in order to throw it away, thereby protecting the sharks - and the whole reef.

Happy shark awareness day

Our birthday entity was launched in a warm and beautiful summer back in 2011, and like a black swan amongst the sea of mostly white swans, it has since day one stood out. Some have held it´s flag up high, while others have talked up the horde of meaningless twitter swarms and fb click bait bots.

The + however, flawed and beautiful, and human as we all are, have continually shape shifted and course corrected in the torrent of life, but as all things should, always kept improving, transforming and growing up.

As we evolve, so do the + too.
And by now it is truly coming into it's own.

But for me, G+ turning 5 is less about that, and more about how the plus also served to bring me one of the most exquisite gifts there ever was in life.

What matters in life has Never been the endless horde of fleeting people, the zombies and dull moments which you sleepwalked through. Life joy and worth is not about the dips and lows that we all encounter as we go by with just living.

The magical essence of life is not about the sameness of the strawberry, It's about the delicious and tasty, rejuvenating thing that strawberries are for you, it is about the unique individual spark it ignites in you.

What truly matters for us all, at the core of who we are, is not the diminishing words of holy books and grumpy people telling us that nooo, you can not be happy. You can not enjoy love and sex, or freedom because you were born a woman so you can not be allowed to have orgasms and sex and love that caters to your own joy and needs.

Those oppressive things do not matter. Such things are based on others selfish oppression, they are born from confusion and human fear, not life´s truth and wisdom.

The things that matter are the things and times in life that carries with them something real for you. Real joy, fulfilling love, the rare sex and friendship that do blow your mind just by its own nature. Gender, race, national borders, wealth and money matters not when faced with that simple truth.

Appreciation, calm, laughter, gratitude, the reality of life, the real needs of people. Real education, real health care. The things each and every one of us truly enjoy and need for life to blossom and so forth in all it´s endless perpetuity and all thing else et cetera.

All the things that bring with them a real and enjoyable response in you.

Be it the world's most amazing 'whatever'.
What matters is that whatever it was, it gifted you with that gracious experience and real response inside of you.

What does not matter is what or who they are, if they are life altering big or small everyday stuff. Expensive or free, how often they happen or not.

Its real value do not ever change depending on if it happens on a daily small stuff level, or someone else's approval.

Others fantasies have no impact on the real value of life for you.

It does not matter if these things are rare things you get to do and taste just a few times in a single year or just a handful of times over the course of your entire life.

What matters is that you did get lucky enough to experience those moments and things.

That you felt it. and that you are wise enough to appreciate that life improving thing for exactly what it is.

So for me, what actually matters about G+ is the moments in life, and the company those moments were shared with that absolutely would Never have happened if Google had not given birth to G+ back in 2011.

And as such, every year that g+ turns one year older, I will always greet that birthday with a joy that is always there and would never have been there had it not been for the birth of g+ summer of 2011.

Happy bday G+ and to all of you, have a wonderful Summer ( or not so cold winter down south ).

I used the phrase 'full body development' because all compound exercises improve not just one isolated group of muscles, but they contribute to your overall health and entire body composition, allowing you to increase strength and lean muscle mass, and health in several groups of muscles.

Some of them, like squat and deadlift, activate so much of your entire body that doing them improves pretty much all of you, from top to toe. Doing these exercises on a weekly basis is like having your own full body and health do over.

Do a few years of deadlift and see your arms, your ass, your legs, lower and upper back, your shoulders, abs, posture, and heart and lungs all improve.

Better yet, It will help you do all that while also kicking your body fat burn and overall health into a much higher gear. And that makes deadlift something that both men and females should make sure to do every single week.

And also why I use the term 'full body development'. It does not just make you stronger, or give you a more toned ass or legs, it makes all of you stronger, including your overall health.

Are you looking for a stronger heart and cardiovascular performance in daily life? Check, increased body fat burn, Check. Do you wish to lower your chance of developing diabetes, check. Do you wish to improve your posture and lower back health and strength, check. Abs? Check, arms, shoulders and so forth, it´s all check, check, check.

The how to

For a complete how-to when it comes to doing Deadlift, portrayed in video and text click the website link for the full article.

http://www.anorseview.com/?q=thegreatexercises-deadlift

The short description of how to do it is however.

Start with your feet flat placed wide apart, directly beneath the barbell, squat down with your ass towards the ground (as low as you can go and still do deadlifts in a controlled and comfortable way) and grab the bar with a shoulder wide or slightly wider overhand grip.

When you lift the weights off the ground, you do so by extending your hips and knees to full extension, pulling your shoulders back and keeping your back straight all through the explosive movement up and slow and controlled on the way down, do not ever arch like a banana.

If you have to arch like that, finish the rep and lower the weight for the next set, it is too heavy for you and arching the back like a banana will sooner or later lead to back issues.___

Farming 2.0
Health benefits for you, and the planet

Farming 2.0
Health benefits for you, and the planet

Summary of direct health benefits for you:

Up to 60% more omega 3, richer on antioxidants, anthocyanins and flavonols. All while lowering the amount of unhealthy toxins and pesticides and other unhealthy things such as sugar and antibiotics.

To that you can add other benefits that indirectly benefit you, such as lower pollution in soil, air and water, less health costs for society and a far more animal and planetary friendly production.

All in all providing you and your body, your long term health and well being with immense health benefits.

Shell is divesting & that is wonderful
The Science of a healthy life

June, 2016 dirty oil company Shell surrendered its oil exploration licenses in the Canadian Arctic, paving way for the creation of a much bigger and better protected marine park for whales, walruses and seals.

Shell has recently withdrawn from exploration in Alaska and Norway, and now its rights to drill in the area east of Lancaster Sound has been handed over to the Nature Conservancy of Canada.

A good will and thing to do for Shell, but also a wonderful thing for all of us. As is the roughly 10 percent of it´s oil and gas assets that shell is currently divesting ( but still just 10%, common guys, you can do so much better business than oil and gas, aim higher, transform, and go big).

Video Review, Nikon D500
The Science & Art of photography

In short: This is a wonderful video review of the newly released Nikon D500 dslr. Comprehensive, to the point and made with both passion and knowledge. It is not about test charts but about all the things that actually matter for a real photographer out in the field doing real work ( or art ). The spoiler verdict is that the Nikon D500 ends up being more or less called Nikons best wildlife camera to date, not perfect but the best one yet unless you absolutely do need the small but real ISO advantage of the Nikon D4 and D5.

And since I am not just talking about quality of life from an individual perspective, but a global one, perhaps it is time for the world to stop talking about the 'American way' and instead embrace the 'Scandinavian way'.

After all.

It is quite a bit like comparing a fossil fuel driven approach vs a sustainable approach to our global and individual life and world. And I think we all know which future Earth we want and need going forward when we start thinking about it like that.

From my blog: http://www.niophoto.com/walk-on-water/

First off, thank you all for the many Birthday wishes that I received via G+, Facebook and e-mail! Highly appreciated! Secondly, thanks for the patience …. yes, it has been way too long since I last posted! :)

Here is an image that I captured fairly recently during a sunset shoot with fellow Swiss photographer +Annick Jaquillard  (make sure to check out her work!). It features a line of rocks that acts as a breakwater on one of my favourite beaches at Lake Geneva (Lac Léman) here in Switzerland.

Despite the nice sunset colours in the original, I decided to go for a black & white approach. I actually ended up with two B&W versions and decided to publish them both. See my blog post! I am curious to hear which one you like best?!

I captured this image with my Nikon D800E. I used a 24mmm f/1.4 lens and stacked multiple Lee ND filters to achieve an exposure time of 6 minutes. Adobe’s Lightroom 5 and Nik’s Silver Efex Pro 2 were used to process the image.

this day

Outside the rooms and lives of still sleeping people chilly city streets seemed to solemnly hold on to the silence and tranquility of the rapidly fading night as two female workers hurled a big chunk of ice off of their truck.

Small whisks of fog and condensing dew rose from the street and ice as their combined strained muscles worked together, holding the 200lbs heavy block of ice with the might of their arms and hands and two black steel claws that sank deep into the coldness of ice.

It was October, and autumn, but the weather was still warm and filled with sun filled days that washed away the colder temperatures of the night.

As they began to carry the heavy ice towards the nearby basement, far away, on what could have been a completely different planet mortar grenades continually took to the mid day sky.

Like small versions of future space rockets, the elongated steel barrels hurled, screaming into the clouds and blue skies.

Like shooting stars, and fiery demons, for a few brief moments those angry metal slugs burned nothing but the air and clouds before they violently pummeled through dirt and sandbags, concrete and steel. Hot solid metal in angry, raging search for flesh and bone to tear to pieces. It´s hunger for blood and living tissue to consume and destroy was all encompassing.

Heavy thumping sounds accompanied the inferno that took place in this valley.

Shattered trees clawed blackened and broken towards the freedom of the clouds and blue skies as dirt and fumes of blood sprayed beautiful, hateful strokes of death and pain upon what had been a beautiful, green meadow earlier this morning.

An empty boot stood defiantly right next to a perfect white daisy.

Unbroken that daisy swayed in the most gentle of breeze, an utmost delicate declaration of all things beautiful and precious in a sea of ravaged soil and flesh torn asunder it was as if the flood of blood and mud did not want to soil that last piece of life.

Teeth and pieces of flesh piled up not far away, broken carcasses, a jaw left without words and whimpers to say, a shattered skull and limbs torn from the chest and bloodied stumps of dead men.

The flower witnessed it all as a new round of mortar shells took to the sky passing over it´s peaceful sanctuary.

Steel casings dancing through air as they kept singing that peculiar song in the thousands, a sonic boom and air that whirled all around the burning hot steel.

Air scorched and screaming.

Men died that day.

Race and religion did not matter, it never did in the tomes of war and life. Not really when you think of it.

Who had you voted for? Had you been a good boyfriend, did you go to church, and did you enjoy walking through the forest. Or had you been a human manifestation of vile and derogatory hate and filth.

None of that ever mattered when it came time for war to unleash it´s dog like jaws of death. Men and women from around the world always died the same way that day. Old or young, no gods and prayers would ever turn the tides of war when it came to hunt with it´s pack of wild wolves and dogs.

Alone and together metal tore their bodies to pieces of red meat, coloring the meadow of what once had been, and soon once more would be a peaceful valley.

People died that day, mauled to brown and red soup in mankind's faceless cauldron of war and hate as the girls back in New York carried today's ice down to the basements.

It was their job to do, so people could keep the greens and meat, the dairy and other produce fresh for a little while longer.

As they did, millions of people slowly came to life, opening their eyes to a brand new day. Across the neighborhood, the scent of coffee soon mixed with the sounds of a city waking up, eager to taste the freshness of this day, to bask in the sunlight and newly baked bread.

Deep down in the cellars, those giant chunks of ice would slowly melt to water in the days ahead.

Drop by drop they reverted back to it´s lucid, life giving form, while far away, back in that valley, everything had gone back to silence. The guns had stopped.

The soldiers had moved on, like ants they followed their obscure commands and orders from hungry, greedy leaders far away, and right next to an empty boot, our beautiful white daisy surveyed the silence of the day as life slowly started taking back what mankind's war and hate had tried to steal so many times.

Soon, the blood would wash away, the greed and hate and exploding metal, it would all be gone in the lushness of this flowers meadow and in years to come, a lovers couple would lay down right in this daisies sea of flowers, they would kiss and make love and laugh at the beauty of their day.

A butterfly would swirl through air, hoping from daisy to daisy and ants would carry the crust of their leftovers away from their feet and blankets. Perhaps too a bumblebee would dance before their eyes, curiously hovering in front of their kissing lips and noses.

Far beneath their soon naked limbs, all the gods of war would be asleep in these days to come. Dreaming in their slumber of lost days when priests and hooded men hated men for futile reasons and made up fantasies.

This day would come, and pass and slightly different come back once more as we traverse through time and space.

Down here on Earth, and beyond, life evolved, but war and hate and their punitive worshipers, remained the same, stuck in repeating dreams of old fermented rage until they too would perish at the hands of their own feverish creations, lost forever to the beauty of dripping ice and the swaying lush sea of the daisies meadow.

Health: Biological aging speeds up when eating red meat

short version:
Be it cancer, obesity, vascular aging, mortality chance in general, diabetes or as we now, also know, a destructively rapid aging process, red meat just isnt a great day to day food choice if health is a concern/interest.

People living a sedentary life with unhealthy food choices already end up increasing the pace at which their body biologically speaking ages. Add red meat to that and the very same people will age even faster.

Another unhealthy aspect of eating red meat revealed by a new scientific study by scientists in Sweden and Glasgow.

Exactly on the mark, so not much needed at all for me to say other than that it is time for us all to always look at the total package of our way of life.

Environmental and social costs, health impact for individuals and planet, the actual reality and science. All aspects should be included when we evaluate something. Be it a product, society, a person or company, a single nation or global progress. When the only metric is singular profit for one entity, things go dead wrong very quickly.

Anthrax - Blood Eagle Wings
seriously gory video

Hot off the heels of their monumentally awesome 2016 release for "all kings" comes a video that is seriously not for the faint of heart.

Blood Eagle Wings is metal at it´s very best and Anthrax 2016 is as far as I am concerned better than ever. And that makes me one happy pup, it is a rare thing to find a band that gets better with age, but Anthrax has now produced 2 of it´s best albums in a row with "worship music" and "for all kings".

But before you hit play, please know that this video is like dipping your toes in all the gore and cruelty of war and inhumanity that we humans sadly far too often end up doing towards each other.

Great song, great video (and amazing album) ,just not for the faint of heart.

Condensing frozen air and moist clashed this morning with furious passion against the seasoned traveler that is the light and warmth of a billion stars and more.

Inside the octagon, elbows came crushing down on facial bones. Blood and sweat swirling through boiling air, wrapped inside each others embrace and dance as muscles burned through adrenaline and atp. Mind and bodies screaming in unison for every inch of air and energy, life and strength that it could hope to muster. The scream for life and victory is a silent scream of furor and burning passion. The clash is as always like an unfolding painting of untold beauty. It is warm and cold, harsh and gentle.

Blow by blow the fighters dance, in the ring and in the air. On the ground and on the canvas. Frost and chilly night air pummeling against the warmth of cosmic rays. Bones that clash against skin that ruptures, blood that sprays against momentarily suppressed pain.

Life is as always, the path of step by step. Mind and matter in evolutionary progress. Inside the octagon as well as outside in the meeting of condensing night and rising sun. For a brief few moments, the dance of life dress us all in misty white down here on Earth, and it is another day of utmost beauty.

Welcome back we say to both the breakfast sun during our morning run and Jon Jones in the octagon.

You could actually make an excellent, albeit generic, global health recommendation from that short headline. And if every person alive followed through with that on a daily basis, we would have nothing but a global health and body revolution on our hands. That is, generally speaking, how easy it actually is to vastly improve ones own long term health and body composition :).

But this little article is not about health in general but about sex and how one of the many healthy aspects of enjoying a fulfilling sex life even protects you (this article and study is about men this time around, even tho fulfilling sex is as beneficial and essential for womens health and fulfillment, females of course do not suffer from prostate cancer) against prostate cancer.

In a recently published study, 32 000 men participated through the years 1992 through 2010.
And the take away is that men above the age of 40 that orgasmed 21 or more times per month, had a 22% lowered risk of developing prostate cancer. Of course, one study hardly makes something written in stone. But, considering that we already know how beneficial, and essential, a frequent and fulfilling sex life is for both men and womens mental and physical health, it should not come at all as a surprise that frequent sex would have a significant impact on prostate cancer.

And of course, if your partner(s) isnt up to 21 or more sexual encounters per month, take the matter in your own hands :).

Happy hearts, your body loves fulfilling sex

¨Increased energy and creativity. Increased fat loss and strength. Increased cardiovascular performance, happier minds and hearts¨

Sex have numerous emotional and biological reasons to be enjoyed. None the less, the act of reproduction. But it also provides the world and it´s people with a long range of essential life improving reasons as to why it should be enjoyed equally much by both men and women for no more reason then fun and love, passion, desire and naughty, sweet pleasure.

Keep in mind however.

I am right now talking about fulfilling shame free and abuse free sex. Sex can be as naughty as all involved enjoy it, but naughty and rough is never, ever abusive. When one person do not enjoy what is happening, that turns gorgeous, fulfilling sex to something ugly and harmful.

Out of the many things this worlds various religions do get right, sex has sadly, extremely rarely been one of them. Neither from a scientific point of view, nor from a moral or emotional, or a public health viewpoint. Fulfilling sex is not only fun, it is essential for men and women alike.

To enjoy and do the way all involved in the sexual act itself craves it.

If you are a guy, enjoy the things your partner enjoy. Be happy if she/he is mature and insightful enough to crave that you explore all of their sexuality. Dont put restraints on her pleasures and desires. And if you are girl, let go, you are who you are. And you need what you crave and enjoy. Do not let the historical restraints of society and immature people tell you what is healthy and normal to enjoy and like.

No one has the right to dictate what you should enjoy in your current and former relationships, nor should you let your male partner dictate what you can think and do, dislike and enjoy, not today, not tomorrow and certainly not in the past.

People grow and change as we mature, and our sexual pleasures, our desires, the things we enjoy and dislike, the things we do not need and the things we certainly do need, sexually and emotionally, they too change. That is what is normal. Either embrace the freedom of that natural change in each other, or suffocate the life joy in the person you claim to love.

Religion teaches us far too often that sex is unhealthy, studies like this proves the opposite.

Sexual fulfillment is both beautiful as well as healthy.

And for a happy, fulfilling life and relationship, allowing all involved the freedom to enjoy the things you do in this very moment, and the right to only do what you all enjoy, is not only a scientifically healthy thing to do, it is how you act as a decent human being and world class lover.

Homo Sapiens, the mutant child that surf the galactic waves on our planetary surfboard

Planet Earth. Our bluish marble of brown and green.
Apex species. Planet Earth is inhabited by a rapidly evolving humanoid species which as this planet's current primary apex predator is actually made up by a lineage of multiple humanoid species as it's diverse genetic origin.

Mutant name. Contemporary humans.
Planetary trajectory, unknown.

The entire planet, solar system and milky way galaxy dart and weave, jump and spin all over the place inside the known universe.
Speed of planetary travel, millions of kilometer per hour. ( Not millions actually, just 828,000 kilometers per hour to be exact )

Evolution of Contemporary humans

Contemporary humans.

Is that not quite a beautiful term for the ever changing humanoid species which almost all of us today belong too. And is it not also true that we all evolve as nature intended for life to do. Over time, we change and adapt. As individuals, as well as one global species. Our mind and bodies and genetic markers evolve to life's current day by day conditioning.

The conscious choices we make, and the daily conditions through which we live.

A clever adaptive design that covers all of life. Our mostly silent but clearly evolving plants, bees, elephants, humans, water bears and cats.

Contemporary humans, and all other species for that matter, also change by absorbing previous generations own genetic material. As that material happens to be at conception. Most of the time nature thrive real hard to try and only absorb and hold on to the best traits from previous generations.

Making diversity a natural but intelligently selective strength. Far less random and chaotic as previously thought, mistakes at times do happen of course, and at times, since evolution is so slow, surrounding circumstances changes much quicker than our genetic material can hope to adapt (computer screens and blue light, for instance, our own beefed up neanderthal immune system is another good example).

why, the term, contemporary humans

But if you are still itching to find out why I am calling our one global species, contemporary humans instead of homo sapiens.

Well, I use the term contemporary humans a bit tongue in cheek of course, but also, because we are not the same as 300 years ago. Nor are we even the same species as we were 60 years ago. And we sure as hell is not the same human species as we happened to be 2000 or 50 000 years ago.

Contemporary humans are ever evolving, and it is who we are today, come tomorrow, we will be slightly better and different, slightly more evolved. Humanity evolves slowly, but also far more rapid than most give credit.

Changes happen in each individual over one single lifespan. A very basic concept of how fast we actually do adapt is the huge change you can give your own health and body just by cutting out unhealthy food and by starting to go seriously to the gym 4 to 5 days a week.

Today, we also know that Homo Sapien doesn't even have only one species as our genetic origin. Adam and Eve is a beautiful thought for those that need the comfort and mental safety net of a singular creator guarding our destiny, but we are all glorious children of not even one genetic origin, but a multitude of completely different humanoid species, picking up the best traits and mutations from them all along the way.

Making the vast majority of Earth´s population, not only a genetic evolution of several ancient and contemporary human races but from the ground up a beautiful ever evolving mutant species.

Which when you trace our complete lineage and genetic makeup are not a mere unchanging sum of all child of various homo sapien races, but like the silver surfer, we hurl through our evolving cosmos, riding a giant planetary surfboard that we call Earth.

We ride it together as something evolved and mutated, not just a mere good ol homo sapien but something far more.

the cosmic ocean

We ride the waves of cosmos, planets and galaxies and all their stars and species, weaving and bobbing the illusion of cosmos calm pond like surface. Like a leaf on giant stormy seas we might not see the waves ahead, nor might we feel the ever changing rise and fall of the sea. But like that leaf, we surf the galactic waves we know are constantly moving, unseen but never the less, moving and touching everything in our own milky way galaxy and the entire known universe.

Even tho we can not see those waves or their ripples that protrude across space with our own naked eyes, we now have the technology that allows us to interpret it, and as such now we know that even time itself and the biggest stars all weave and float across those very waves.

And as such we all surf that glorious and wild ocean not as a singular human species that has walked the earth the same unchanged way since homo sapiens African birth. Instead, we do it as beautiful mutant children, born of cosmic stars and a multitude of different contemporary races and ancient human species, each with their own unique genetic origin and adaptations.

Evolved and more, we ride this wave together, at the speed of light, we traverse the vast unknown of space.

We are all unique, and yet, connected little mutants, born a mix of Homo sapiens, Neanderthals, Denisovans and 'god' knows what more we will soon discover has contributed to our mutually shared ( yet individual ) genetic pool that is who we are today.

And together, we the contemporary human race, our planet and entire galaxy surf through the universe at the crest of giant waves at a speed of millions of kilometer per hour.

The Milky way galaxy is a small galaxy that in itself is still changing and soon will have millions of new stars to light up our sky at night. In part, because our entire galaxy does move through the universe, it is not anchored in one singular place. It is like a Viking long boat hurling through the radiant storms towards brave uncharted waters :).

But we will also soon have millions of new stars with millions of more planets because life is so god damn amazing that a long, long time ago a giant cluster of stars and cosmic soup got tossed out of the milky way galaxy, and now it has turned a corner out in the universe, taken a left or two and decided to fly back home to us :). And of course, did I mention that new stars and planets form all the time. Yup, they do.

tell me now

So Tell me now that life is not grand amazing.
But if you do, I will say

You my friend might not be blind and deaf by natures choosing. But still you live by your own free will, slightly numb and blind and deaf.

Why is that?

By not seeing and wanting to accept life as it is, you are missing out, because life is grand, and man and woman are born all beautiful and perfect, yet still evolving. Pussy, clit, thoughts and all, we are all amazing. We and life itself are grand and gorgeous, a delight to enjoy as it is today and the ever-changing tomorrow.

And we all, are all that and so much more so than any man-made fiction.

arctic butterfly and the snowy white

At rare times, we come across events and people, as well as both small and monumental moments that we just know are genuine once in a life things.

When we do, all we can do is to marvel at and appreciate it for what it is, exactly the way that unique thing unfolds. This photo is one of those small moments which so randomly and rarely happens that you would have missed it if anything in the universe made you blink for the briefest of tiny seconds.

Yes, that is a real life, and unharmed, and fully alive butterfly.

And yes, you really are looking at a tallish, snow covered flower, outside in the middle of the arctic winter, deeply frozen, snowy white and all. A proud and unlikely moment from life unfolding right there in the middle of a snowy white and deeply frozen landscape.

It´s not the best of photos, but I could not help but to appreciate the beauty of that unique moment, and as such, it really is perfect just the way it is. And to imagine that I had a camera with me to immortalize this memory, making sure it never got lost in the fog of time.

As for the queen of snow, she is now hibernating in the safety of a cold and dark room, and yes, she really is alive, a couple of days ago she had moved a tiny little bit deeper into the shadows as she slumbers there, awaiting the coming of spring so she can help set free a legion of butterflies.

Sometimes people never come back out of the forest called Aokigahara

Every year in modern times at least, up to 100 people step inside the "sea of trees" beneath Mt. Fuji, never again to be heard of alive. Not due to a forest-dwelling movie monster, or predatory species that lurk beneath the canopy. Instead some choose to visit this solemn, and beautiful place, not to rekindle their appetite for life, but to willingly meet the end of it far away from the sounds and lights, demands and artificial existence of the big Japanese cities. So, before we continue, let´s agree that unless you are burdened by terminal, and untreatable illness, choosing to meet life daily, and choosing to live life in a way that makes it fulfilling for you, that is what requires real strength.

Calling it quits is not a show of strength, it´s simply quitting and giving up.

Yes, far too many are burdened by a life that is neither kind or fulfilling.
Be it a partner that sucks all the joy away, or selfish people and crappy unfulfilling jobs and daily tasks that in no way makes your life more. But the solution is not to cease to breathe and do life, the solution, the real one, is always for you to start doing life the way that makes it fulfilling for you. Everything and anything in life can be changed, by you. No one else can choose to change life for you, but you can. We all can choose to do life in the way(s) which we enjoy instead of simply stumble through a dark, unfulfilling and meaningless journey towards our final night.

Whatever your situation is, you always have all the tools and right to change it, just by being you, and it really is your fucking responsibility and right to do so. Life is your art to do and to enjoy for your own fulfilling sake, not to waste away against your own needs, and that is something no one can change.

Nor do they have the right to deny you a fulfilling life lived by your own choices and according to your own needs.

30 out of every 100 000 people - In Japan

In Japan almost 30 people out of every 100 000 do choose to end their own life. The by far, highest suicide rate out of all the developed nations.

There are of course many reasons why so many end their own life in Japan compared to other equally developed nations, one of the least talked about reasons might be that in Japan suicide was historically speaking rarely looked down upon the same way as it is in most of the world. It was rarely thought of as illegal by the legal system or a cowardly thing to do. Throughout history, suicide have at times even been looked upon as a way to keep your honor, from the yesteryears Samurai that committed seppuku when they or others had for one or another reason disgraced themselves in every day life or by loosing a battle to today's overworked Japanese workers that often work so much that at the end of the work day they cant even go home at night but instead sleep over in small hotel rooms near their workplace.

And in that daily environment of demands by others, be it people or corporations, suicide is still by some thought of as a romantic way to end a life that has gone wrong instead of simply choosing to change what is wrong.

That un-relentless work pace is of course all by itself a big contributor, people are emotional beings, not only do we thrive in nature's beauty, but we thrive when we are living life and all it´s aspects the way we enjoy it. And very few honestly enjoy working even 8 hours per day.

To make over working worse, things such as love, sex and fulfilling and romantic relations also go out the door when you work more than you live, or when you live a life that really is not what you would enjoy actually living.

Sexless lives that lack both relationship and passion and romance are thus, as expected other common aspects of modern day life in Japan.

A volatile economy and few workers/people rights in life and society to demand a fulfilling life all contribute for the world leading (amongst developed nations) suicide rate of Japan. Add to that how densely populated life is in cities like Tokyo and how little wildlife and nature there is in your daily life on the streets of such cities. Small apartments, little nature, high paced life on concrete roads and millions of people inside your personal space 24/7. All that combined is why some choose to visit Mt. Fuji and it´s whispering sea of trees to bite hard into that fresh apple that is life without that artificial dome that is modern-day Japanese life.

most just seek to dip their toes in lifes beauty

Most visitors of course go there to rejuvenate in the silence and peace of mind of that mountain, to hike and enjoy the grandness of the area, to sip upon life´s fruits.

While others sadly go there to simply never return, not intent on receiving that jolt of rekindled energy that make us all pumped for another day of life´s daily battle.

Instead they came in search for a decision, and every year up to 100 people manages to make such a logical tumble that they stay behind in the forest, they lay as empty fossilized shells with no more tomorrows scattered in the moss and roots, waiting in silence for someone to find them.

Quite a lot of people around the world is sadly still surprised that what promotes a healthy body, also promotes a life long healthy mind.

So let´s just put it out there, short and sweet - as you strengthen your own body all life long, you also improve and maintain your minds health, performance and youth.

All life long.

That is not my personal opinion, it is simply a scientific fact. So for today, let us talk about neurogenesis, the science about a healthy mind (and thus, body).

Every day, 700 new neurons are formed in a healthy mind all life long

Every day, all life long, a healthy brain actually produce an astonishing 700 new neurons. Fresh for the taking to learn, to heal up, to improve. We know today that our brain is no different to how your biceps and sexy ass will grow stronger and more toned when you challenge them in a healthy way, and end up weak and deflated when you stop challenging your body.

In other words, as long as you maintain your own health by making healthy (and stimulating/challenging) choices on a daily basis - the things you enjoy doing.

You will also keep your mind healthy, fit and toned.

Do not mind gender or age, do not blame your genetics and your parents. Dont blame the last ten years of food and tv sofa choices.

All those things of course have an impact on us all. But they do not define us. Your biceps and your brain, your heart and your entire being is a constantly evolving work in progress. And a great start to improving body and mind is the healthy things that you actually enjoy.

Sex (the great fulfilling kind), healthy food, a fit and toned body, blueberries, lifting weights, doing MMA, reading a good book, writing a book, listening to music, falling in love and maintaining that mutually enjoyed love and passion.

Learning new things, taking daily walks. Keeping up with the world, learning new things as the world learns new things. Discovering new games, playing games. Learning new forms of art. Destroying your own squat and bench press records. Doing yoga, travelling. They are all good for you.

And the truly funny thing is, your brain is a muscle, working out will tone up your mind as well as your torso.

Eating healthy benefits brain and body. Getting drunk hits your mind as badly as it hits your body.

Walking, martial arts, yoga and sprint runs benefits mind and body, Creatine, a sports supplement is as beneficial for your mind as it is for your explosive energy levels (even more so if you happen to eat low or no amount of meat).

Healthy food and not over eating keeps in combination with keeping physical active your mind healthy as much as it keeps your body strong, fit and toned.

And the bad works the same way.

Skipping ice cream (I love Ice cream btw, so that is a hard advice to give - but some indulgence is allowed :P) , not doing alcohol, skipping smoking, drugs, and making sure not to sit still for too long.

Avoiding air pollution, unhealthy food, making sure not to over eat even if the food is super healthy.

Avoiding sugar. Kicking crappy partners, friends and lovers out. Well, I am pretty sure you already get the point. All the things that maintains and improves your personal fitness level, joy and health also maintains your brain. And the things that drains your physical energy also saps your mental energy.

I have said it in previous articles over the years, but I will end this one by saying it again. Your mind is a muscle.

The same way your heart, your ass, your triceps, abs and lungs are all muscles. And as such, while there are circumstances to health, life and aging which we do not control, and while there are some genetic (and other) limitations involved for us all, it truly is not only possible to create and maintain a healthy body and mind for a life of enjoyable and sensual health, it is 99% down to your own daily choices.

By far. the best part is that you can start improving your health in body and mind at any given point in life.

The concept is easy, your own body and brain is constantly replenishing and restarting, on a daily basis.

It really is a daily grind keeping healthy, happy and toned, and that is why people go up and down in body fat, muscle mass, endurance, strength, creativity, memory, the speed with which you perform cognitive tasks and so forth.

Nothing is constant, and what you do not use, you loose, but what you havent used, you can always start improving today by starting to use it on a daily basis.

Because, as you now know, both muscles, body fat and neurons continually gets refreshed.

Your entire living system continually thrive to rise or sink with the challenge - or lack of challenge that you provide it with. Mentally, emotionally, intellectually and physically.

What you have to constantly remind yourself with is that it truly is a daily grind.

Never ever buy into a promise of a healthy life and hot body if you do this routine for the next 6 month.

A healthy body and mind is created by you making healthy choices every single day for the rest of your life.

Body fat starts growing the very same day you start eating more food than you use up. Body fat starts diminishing the same day you start using more energy per day than you are feeding your body.

And strength, thought, endurance, joy, cognitive performance, it´s all the same.

Add to that, that quality also matters. Quality of food, quality of sex, quality of working out.

Quality of life and a constant stream of daily healthy choices that challenges and fulfills you is what matters for body and mind. All parts of your organic ecosystem (your body) responds the same way to what you feed your system from now on out.

Make a bet with yourself today, that you will once you hit 70 years old outdo your current day self in body and mind. Work for it on a daily basis by making healthy choices that you enjoy - and I bet you that you will accomplish exactly that (bad luck, unrealistic goals, a lack of will and unfortunate accidents put aside of course).

Like a painter's pencil the air and rolling hills was turned into nature's most enchanting canvas. Wrapped all around me on this place where I now stood right next to this tree where we hand in hand in summer time barefoot walked through the tall green grass through the herds of flowers and wildlife.

The wings of crows and ravens and the mighty white-tailed eagles soared the sky above me.

No doubt looking for the tasty arctic rabbits that always roamed these fields of ours.

Or perhaps they tracked a Lynx or two that silently made their way through the bushland, stalking our footprints that now laid frozen in the snow like a ghost, silent and unseen but always near and always undeniable there.

I looked up at the rising sun as it painted these vivid clouds and frozen land and I smiled, thinking of the sights that already lay waiting for you my girl to discover as we walk these plains hand in hand.

have a good one world, call it Xmas, Christmas, Yule log fun, Winter solstice, whatever - just enjoy it

And remember, next year and the next few centuries, our gorgeous little planet will perpetually start improving a shit load of huge amounts for all of us. And that is by far the best Xmas gift we have all ever given each other, something we mutually did this december when roughly 200 nations banded together to create a much saner and healthier and sustainable future for us all.

So enjoy a wonderful Xmas today no matter what you call it or how you do it. The future is bright and wonderful as fuck :)

a dragon
atop the tree

From inside a glass jar
peculiar so
Your eyes are peering
Straight back out the ever tree

Outside that rounded glass
The world spins and wobbles
rumbles, resonates
Words and sounds like light
of night and day

so clear and sighted
yet at times
perhaps
it dips, a tad bit
obfuscated

Through the dome

something bends and changes
The perspective of time
with which
You see and sense

The living world
And all It's peers

White it falls
shortened days

the ice that rumbles reminds you so
to descend
down from the tree to play
your yearly tune
that paints their brethren sky so green and vivid

eat their oat and sprinkle gifts
climb back up
the tree and moon, the night is brief
and you need your sleep
inside the ice and night

The little aphid cow right next to the ant looked startled at the sea of thickening tears that came hurling down all around them.

"My very first winter rain, my gosh, just look at those drops, how big and thick they are"

Yes, the soldier ant Said, they are close to becoming hale and snow by now. I can already feel it in the air. Come, let us go back inside before winter catches us. We are in northern lands now, and the freeze can happen instantly here. And if it do, it is strong and powerful enough to hurt us

"The freeze?" The Young aphid sounded as frightened and hesitant as he looked now.

Yes, wait here, I have to close the hatchet too. Our Norse tribe would not be too happy with us if I forgot to close this entrance for the winter. You see, up here with the fairies and trolls, those white and brown Bears and Santa Claus. Things turn to real ice and snow up here for month at a time. It is impossible to survive outside for little ones like us. Everything, even the rain becomes hard as metal and stones against your skin.

"but, it was sunny and warm yesterday?"

Yes, winter has come.
But no need to worry about that, we usually spend our summer and autumn up here, we are a migrant tribe after all, and once Santa has dropped off his bag of presents next week it is time for us to take the southern tunnel down back to Africa, and from there, we might hitch a hike with the Spider ballon trail, and in return for us helping them stay safe, they will carry us all the way out to the ocean trading route.

From the trading route, ocean currents, winds and our own ladybugs will take us all the rest of the way to Brazil, it´s lovely during this time of the year. So, no worries, in a month or so we will once again see summer and you can graze as much as you want in our southern hemisphere capital, until we head back north for the arctic summer of course.

Perhaps, next year, we will go and visit the eastern outpost, Japan has such a beautiful blossoming tree and the clan chief has sent words that next year will be an extraordinary display of wonders, the trees and bugs have been producing an extraordinary amount of milk for us.

who is santa Claus

"Who is Santa Claus?" the little aphid said.

Well, Santa is, you know. Think of Santa as more of a magical being than a person. He lives up in the wild north, somewhere far away and deep in the snowy mountains of the ancient places only known to vikings and frost giants.
He walks amongst the humans, the ants and every little critter and animal. Almost like Odén, the old viking king of all the norse gods.

He has many names and shapes, but once a year Santa lets the world see him almost the same way no matter who you are. He walks this planet, an old and very bearded man, slightly puffy and quite over weight, but perhaps that is just the shape he wants you to see that very day.

Come xmas eve, when you close your eyes and the ferries take you to the world of dreams, Santa somehow finds his way inside your house, leaving presents behind, and behind him he sprinkles a crunchy trace and scent of ginger bread and a most delicate lingering feeling of wonders.

The point is, no one really know´s who Santa is, or how he can change his shape like that, to grow as tall as the tallest of giants, or as small as an ant. No one knows how he actually look like, or how he can travel the entire world and be at millions of places almost all at once. Is there a hundred thousand different Santa beings? An unknown species that only shows itself to the rest of us during Christmas. Or is it just one Santa that some how manages to find himself in hundreds of millions of places each and every second.

I do not know.

It´s magical like that. Like nothing else in life.

He shows up, and he vanishes, like he almost never was there to begin with, and behind him, the scent of magic and the physical gifts which he has left behind is all that remains.

Well, that and gratitude i hope, because you should be grateful.

For life itself, each person that truly cares about you, and for all the wonders in the world. For the kindness that somehow gave you that gift.

Grateful for the cycle of life, light and dark. Snow and warmth, it´s all an wondrous part of life.

And yeah, it´s magical, Santa and the reality of the yule log traditions.

Just remember to not lay awake. Because Santa never ever shows up before each and everyone inside the house have soundly entered the dreamy lands that is guarded by the moon and the stars. Some how he always knows if you are silently laying awake trying to catch a glimps or sound of him, and if you stay up for too long, all that you will have accomplished is that he will not show up at all. And if that happens, well tough luck kiddo - you are officially down and out with Santa and you better hope that someone in your life is kind enough to buy you gifts of their own.

So you see, you have to fall asleep little one if you really want santa to come around, so nn and dont let the bed bugs bite. Because I want him to leave some gifts behind him, I have waited all year long for that.

..... "but, tell me about the lady bug trail!."

Hush now little cow,
I do not want us to chase away Santa this year too, I will tell you all about our lady bug trail tomorrow, and soon you will get to see it with your very own eyes as we leave the new fallen snow behind. But for now, please let´s close our eyes and visit the sandy ant mans shores.
I have heard that he is having a barbeque tonight together with a bunch of hybernating vikings that just woke up, and I doubt you would want to miss that.

.... "Oh wow, the sandy ant and vikings, I cant wait to see that"

....."What are they barbequing?"

..... "Oh I can hear him, did you hear that! Santa is here, I can hear him"

......"How did he get inside, we dont have a chimney!!"

Shhhhhh....

The industrial revolution changed that and farming became owned by a few mega-corporations, with animal abuse, health, and environmental issues in tow. But now, in a world of climate change and awareness, technology have finally come full circle, making us all greener, healthy individual farmers again.

Inside our romantic and cozy kitchen, white, clean and warm, yet modern and uncluttered, there is also the warmth and joy found in the cycle of life, ever growing strawberries competes for our attention with ripe looking tomatoes. Healthy stuff continually growing and reproducing right there in our kitchen. Ample health for the picking. Free of hormones and pesticides, free of polluting cross national or even regional transportation. Healthy, tasty, and all our own come rain or sunshine. Snowstorms or horizon blinding swarms of locust. There they are, ever producing.

Best of all is how easy it is. Green fingers my ass. Growing some of your own food has never been healthier or easier to achieve.

Do not cry now. But you can now harvest your Friday taco right on the kitchen island, mealworm style :).

Farming in the new world is not just about fresh and sultry tasty berries, however.

You can now grow your own little crunchy taco dinner in the same sustainable, kitchen island way you are farming strawberries all year round. Mealworms, crickets, crunchy little grasshoppers are all suitable for modern day kitchen island farming. Reach out and pick a handful of tomatoes, pick 5 strawberries off of your kitchen counter in the middle of the winter and harvest half a kilo of mealworms every week. Slice, dice and cook and there you go, a perfect, indoor grown salad for the taking. Tasty, healthy and long term speaking, insanely affordable, not to mention convenient as fuck compared to buying a far less healthy and sustainable equivalent in the supermarket.

They are however a bit yucky at first thought :). And that is perfectly ok to think because meat based protein from stuff like mealworms is incredibly much less resource demanding and thus much less destructive, and much more sustainable and affordable to farm than cows, chickens, shrimps and pigs. And it pulls all that off while still delivering high-quality protein. The huge difference in waste and water usage between traditional agriculture and the "kitchen island farming" principle to name just two aspects is gigantic.

Read the rest at our website including a video of a super cute kitchen Island mealworm farm that spits out friday night tacos every week, 500gram of pure protein meat :).

Ps. I know, I made this post a couple of weeks ago, but G+ some how managed to turn my post from public to private. Lol, you got to like the weirdness of g+s very own ghost in the shell :).Anyway, that is why I am posting it once again :).

Rich in biodiversity and languages

Indonesia is as rich in biodiversity as it is in the number of languages spoken within its borders. But while it´s populations has doubled since 1971 it´s status as our planet's most biodiverse region is under siege due to a long range of official failures. A massive and unsustainable population growth (caused in parts by an out of date view on sexual education and contraception ) in combination with poverty and inequality.

Unsustainable corporations, poaching and world famous natural destruction are not only rapidly cutting down on the natural resources and wildlife, but also causing widespread and long-reaching health issues inside and outside of Indonesian borders.

There are also numerous human rights issues tormenting the diverse Indonesian population. Some of it manifests as gender-based violence and abuse, such as the army having performed vaginal examinations on female recruits to make sure that they are still virgins!. All the way to the few, but far too many, females unfortunate enough ending up victims accused of imaginary crimes, similar to what can be seen in India and PNG.

Other ongoing and already decades-long issues include an out dated view on same sex relations. Violence and murder relating to the widespread illegal - but commercial - logging, poaching, and deforestation are also far to common.

Home to

[15% of

plants, mammals and birds]

As much as we would like to believe that our own national and global industries are all well-behaving. Sustainable and as healthy as possible in their respective approach to making a profit. Sad facts are that the biggest contributor to the deforestation, the illegal logging, the rampant poaching and decline of countless of animal species in Indonesia is us. We, the outside world and our global import/export industry.

None a bigger culprits perhaps than the palm oil and paper pulp industry. We are after all the ones importing the goods produced in Indonesia, we are the ones feeding the ongoing atrocity and keeping the wheels spinning on something that is utterly unsustainable. Not only is this an environmental crisis happening today, but also the source for decades long widespread health issues and human rights issues.

"Thankfully" by now some of the consequences have started to have a global impact, and are as such no longer restricted to just Indonesian soil. The air pollution that the deforestation is now causing is already severely hampering the health of millions of people in other Asian nations. And that is of course why the outside world have now started to recognize that what is happening in Indonesia is not ok.

Sumatran tigers and rhinos

"Demand for palm oil, both national and overseas, is a big driver of forest conversion," said Erik Meijaard, a conservation scientist at the Borneo Futures Initiative. And if you are still shaking your head and wondering how on earth your need for palm oil and cosmetics in any way contributes to all this. Indonesia is by far the world's biggest producer of palm oil and actually produced 33 million tons in 2014 alone. Out of that 20 million ton is annually exported to other nations around the world such as China and Germany and the USA. But the problem is not just about producing and exporting palm oil.

There are other commercial factors involved, such as coal mines and traditional pulp and paper industries, as well as the cosmetic industry. Separate but related issues, which, when all combined are perpetually ravaging all of Indonesia in their shared hunt for ever increasing land and forest to exploit. Even resorting to burning and destroying healthy forest around the 17 000 islands. Which not only is against the law but also causing the rampant air pollution that the world now has noticed. It is also contributing to the rapid loss of land area for countless of animal species, some of whom only exist in Indonesia. Protected park areas that serves as homes for a long range of unique animal species are constantly under threat from fires and illegal logging and poaching.

"Some of the babies we’ve taken in recently have been suffering not only from dehydration and malnourishment through lack of food but also breathing problems from the polluted air.”

Add to that the unique rhinos and tigers living in Indonesia. The handful that are still alive that is. The Sumatran tiger which is the smallest known tiger species in the world are now thought to be made up of less than 500 individuals and since they only exist on the Indonesian island of Sumatra they are incredibly sensitive to the illegal deforestation and poaching currently running rampant. A sad situation that is all too familiar when talking about the Sumatran rhino which is already down to less than 100 individuals.

A rhino named Harapan

Talking about the Sumatran Rhino, just about now a male Rhino named Harapan, which means hope, was made world famous when he recently traveled more than 16,000km (9,941 miles) from a zoo in the USA to reach the Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary at the Way Kambas National Park.

The goal here is to reintroduce him to the wild where he can breed and help introduce not only more offsprings to this critically endangered rhino species, but also strengthen their DNA.

A futile effort if we can not put an end to both the illegal poaching as well as the illegal and unsustainable deforestation. Two related issues that are both fuelled by our global need for consumption. The poaching is mainly maintained to produce meaningless traditional Chinese medicine. While the logging is happening to produce cheap as hell palm oil, cosmetics and toilet paper.

Short, sweet and accurate post for one of the many basic things a lot of people still get wrong about their body, health and fitness level/potential.

Your present day body fat and Lean muscle mass is 99% about what you do on a perpetual basis with the body and health you were born with and not at all about your genetic makeups inherent limitations.

With that Said, since some are overly sensitive about these things, that does not mean that everybody have to be slim, Toned and fit. It is simply about the reality that you are able to walk around with the body fat and muscle mass that you would prefer to have.

You are not trapped by your genetic Markup ( unless we take things to It's extremes, if we do that we all have hard limits that are both impossible, and even unhealthy to move beyond, but those are limits that not even most world class athletes in a long range ofsport... more »

The Myth of Body Types
There are still many forums, websites and even fitness instructors who use the convenience of the endo, meso, ecto classification for body types, perpetuating a myth that has no foundation in science. Our bodies are the instruments we use to connect to the world and the places we all live in so it’s worth taking a little time to unpack this a little and understand where the myth ends and the science begins.

The theory behind somatotypes (the scientific term for body types) came in the 1940s from the American psychologist William Herbert Sheldon, who used visual examination to classify the human physique according to the relative contribution of three fundamental elements named after the three germ layers of embryonic development: the endoderm, (develops into the digestive tract), the mesoderm, (becomes muscle, heart and blood vessels), and the ectoderm (forms the skin and nervous system).

In the 1940s there was a strong social movement in the US that leaned towards Eugenics and Sheldon's Endo-Meso-Ecto classification fed directly and very conveniently into that. Despite the physical aspect of Sheldon’s theory his real aim was to tie his observations into psychological observations about the psychological makeup of people and associate that with each body type creating the theory of Constitutional Psychology.

Sheldon used subjective classification techniques based upon his visual appraisal of his subjects’ physiques. His theory of Constitutional Psychology has since been discredited. Unfortunately the fallacy of the physical classifications persists to this day but it's a very poor way of looking at how the human body works or how it can put on muscle. In the early days of the Darebee project we tried using the classifications as a guide to the level of difficulty of our workouts and they were so restrictive and out of touch (as we found out once we started to test them with volunteer groups) that we abandoned them. The reason the fallacy persists to this day is because his original research assistant Barbara Heath, and later Lindsay Carter developed it further and popularized it in the 60s creating a convenient way for many fitness professionals to work with.

Anthropometric Measurements and Your Body

Science and our knowledge of how the body works has developed incredibly since the 60s and it’s time we started to retire the endo-meso-ecto classification for the myth it is. First of all there is no single person who is adequately described by one of these classifications which means that at best they are an approximation and at worst flat-out wrong and you don’t want to base your training nutrition on something that is ‘almost right’.

Second, each person’s body is the result of a mix of characteristics that are traditionally ascribed to one of the Heath-Carter ‘body types’. So, in reality the visual elements that make a person fit into one or the other are actually wrong and likely to lead to more problems than solutions.

The only area where somatotypes come into play in sports science and biology is when we need to take anthropometric factors into account to determine physical fitness and physical performance. Anthropometric factors include body breadth and length, body weight, bone density and even the ratio of the bones of the legs and arms in relation to the torso. There are a number of factors influencing anthropometric measurements: genetics, nutrition, environmental and cultural factors and, obviously, the sex of the person. A study carried out by researchers at the University of Madrid showed that anthropometric measurements can determine physical performance in a subject which then can conveniently be classified into one of the commonly used somatotypes.

There are four key things to remember:

1. Every person is a combination of all three somatotypes based upon the complexities of their anthropometric make up. Someone can be tall, heavy and still relatively lightly muscled for their size. Someone else could be short, light and yet heavily muscled (throwing up an out of kilter BMI Index). You cannot base any training or nutrition plan just on the visual aspect of how you look or how heavy you are (case in point Bruce Lee who built himself up with a proper training and nutrition program).

2. Physical performance has nothing to do with somatotypes and everything to do with physical strength, endurance, coordination and the ability of the body to successfully coordinate muscle groups during ballistic exertion involving concentric and eccentric muscle movements.

3. Physical fitness is independent of somatotype. It refers to the ability of muscles to do specific work within a certain context and recover in a sufficiently short space of time to do it all over again (consider that both a heavyweight boxer and a marathon runner are very fit but visually look very different).

4. The popular link between body type and metabolism is false. While there are differences in the Base Metabolic Rate (MBR) which measures the amount of calories a body burns at rest for each body type, they are the result of muscles and musculature and the individual level of activity that each person engages in, rather than the body type itself.

So What Determines How You Put on Muscle?

The question then remains, if body type is not really indicative of how easily or quickly we can put on muscle, what is?

Muscles only grow as strong and powerful as the anchoring points allow them to and those anchoring points are tendons and bones. Strong tendons and strong bones make for strong, powerful muscles. Because bones and tendons get stronger through physical activity which exercises the muscles this is a little bit of a catch-22.

At this point nutrition comes in. Bones require calcium and calcium has to be present in the diet. A combination of enough calcium and sufficient high-impact exercise to frequently generate 4G forces (about four times the weight of your own body applied to your muscles and bones) begins to affect the density of the bones. As bones get denser they can support greater exertion from the muscles more easily, so muscles can now begin to grow faster.

The recipe for building muscles then is what it has always been and it’s the same for everyone:

- Good nutrition
- Regular exercise that challenges the muscle groups you want to get stronger
- Sufficient sleep (for the body to restore muscle fiber damage and build new muscle)

People with bones that are already dense because of their lifestyle, will find it easier to put on muscle at any rate. Women, whose bones are generally not as dense as men’s will have to work a lot harder to see results.

How much each person burns at their base metabolic rate (BMR) will depend on their weight, muscle-to-fat ratio, physical and mental activity levels (the brain requires 20% of the blood’s total blood supply), their height, the type of foods we generally eat (i.e. fast-release carbohydrates like sugars or slow-release carbohydrates like unprocessed rice and brown pasta, etc).

This means that with the proper combination of training and nutrition anyone can put on muscle regardless of their size, but not everyone can put on the same amount of muscle, at the same speed. The formula for losing or gaining weight is the same for everyone regardless: eat more than you burn to put weight on and eat less than you burn to lose weight. You can’t escape basic science, it seems.

Back, and that much smaller thing called triceps. I normally do not train my triceps with my back, I usually do nothing but back and my mma cardio, and possibly some abs, but I do like that switching it up thing, so for today it´s back and triceps. A combo that do work really well together, giving your entire upper body a solid challenge.

Both back and triceps work your shoulders as a tiny but positive bonus, and a tough back workout also gives your biceps and grip a proper beating, so by the end of it you´ll end up having activated your entire upper body, including your chest muscles courtesy of those triceps exercises.

the workout

I usually warm up by doing 2 to 3 sets x 10 repetitions of standing barbell row for my back workouts and today was no exception.

In my case I start out @ 100kg, which feels light enough while still actually giving my body a proper warm up. Today, just for fun, I also did two warm up sets of close grip bench press for my triceps as a superset with my barbell row, and one hanging leg raises.

No, it´s not really how you should do it every single day you hit the gym. But every now and then your body just needs some amped up intensity.

After all, you do train for lifelong health too and an athletic body and not just for beefy muscles that can't even get you through 5 minutes of cardio, right?. Well, at least I do.

Intense Weights
[back and triceps]

Standing barbell row:

2 set x 20 repetitions @ 100kg (Warmup). + 2 set of 10reps close grip bench press with the same weight.
3 set x 12 repetitions @ 130kg (286 lbs) + 10 reps of shrugs using the same weight.

Sitting rows in a superset with chins.

3 set x 12 repetitions @ 120kg (264 lbs) sitting row, + 10 to 12 repetitions of chins in between each set of sitting rows.

Shrugs

2 set x 20 repetitions @ 200kg (440 lbs) + one more set of chins in between those two sets.

While I do not know about you, that short and intense back workout felt god damn great for me. Intense, high paced and good weights and proper technique.
A workout I was damn happy about.

As a bonus, I did close grip bench press 3 set x 10 reps @ 110kg (242 lbs) and 3 set of dips for my triceps x 25 repetitions per set.

No lessons for today, except that you know. Fit and active is about a functional, and healthy body that is as athletic and kick ass and sexy as it is good looking and healthy for all of life. So keep at it and don't let the desire to be the strongest in the gym be your one singular goal. at the expense of everything else. It might be fun but it is neither sustainable nor healthy So, in the quest for throwing around weights do not forget the cardio, the pace, the explosiveness, the durability and just how much more fun it is to be toned and athletic, and muscular versus being a bulked up polar bear that only grunts away 3rep sets every third minute.

The Baby feets of space

A romantic trip to Paris can be complicated enough, but immensely rewarding to carry through with your lover. And a once in a life romantic trip to space, well, that, of course, will truly create moments of everlasting memories to look back at.

But beyond the financial drain the ticket itself will present. How about the practical side of it.

I am of course talking about the everyday reality of you never being able to going outside for a morning walk in the fresh spring rain. The missing wildlife and flocks of ravens, the missing woodpeckers that play their never ending drum like serenade.

All the things you already know of and take for granted down here. How will spending your day in space instead of on Earth really affect you. So before you take off, have you considered the lack of sustainable amounts of water to drink and shower in (or in fact, any kind of sustainable amounts of the beverage you enjoy day in, day out down on Earth).

There are after all, no strawberries growing beyond our blue spheres shelter. No apples and no corn and peanuts, no one that can pick more coffee beans for you to grind and brew once Friday approaches.

In fact, up there, in space, at some point, you do have to drink your own recycled urine.

Well, unless we are talking about a short weekend trip that is. But let´s not do that, let us contemplate upon going out into space for 12 months or longer and the lasting impact of that on you. Perhaps you embarked upon a several years long trip to another planet. Or you and your two hot lovers romantic one week trip ended in a sci.fi like catastrophe and you are now, all stranded far away, outside our blue atmosphere.

No clouds to shelter you

No clouds to shelter you, no rain to quench your thirst, no rescue choppers. Not even a parachute to skydive back to Earth like a daredevil hero. You are for the next 12 month, trapped in space.

By accident or choice, and there are no secret little islands floating by that will show up with raw coconuts and little critters to feed upon. No beaches with pale blue water to swim and dive in, and no fish to bbq over an open fire.

Bonus perks of space travel, gratis world-class pedicure

Scott (Nasa Astronaut) lets us in on one of the perfectly logical little secrets of life in space that might have escaped your bucket list considerations. But you have to admit, this nice little extra gratis "world-class pedicure" for the ladies makes going up into space for a romantic, luxurious 2-month vacation even better doesn't it. Perhaps Virgin can sell their coming commercial vacation trips as "better than botox" =).

“We don't use the bottom of our feet much. Over time any calluses on our feet kind of fall off. After about five months up here you have baby feet. When I got back from my last flight… I was getting a massage… and the masseuse said, 'You have the softest feet I've ever felt in my whole life.'

And my response was, 'Thank you, I'm very proud of them.' ”

But your clothes and dinner do float

The outcome of those differences between life in space and down on Earth is that our bones break down faster in space. Our internal fluids get switched around. Cancer growth accelerates, our feet goes baby smooth and so forth, and so on.

There are positives, such as the smooth baby feets, and getting to see 10 000+ sunsets and sunrises in one year!. But be aware of the negatives such as the loss of muscle mass and bodily fluids floating in air, as well as inside of your body :)....

Because no matter how big or small those things sound like to you from the comfort of your Earthbound bed, they are a practical reality of going out in space, and they will impact each and every one of us that do venture off-world one day in the future.

Making life in space for coach potatoes perhaps not a downright impossibility but a very unpleasant prospect to do. And finally, some of these things do not go back to their previous state just because you came back to Earth.

Quite a few astronauts have suffered significant reductions in muscle mass and mineral bone density (lower body), as well as long lasting issues with their spine and lower back, the accelerated cancer risk and, accelerated aging none the least. A weaker heart muscle is of course nothing to overlook either.

And these things happens despite modern day astrounauts spending hours every single day of their month long trips working out, lifting weights and doing cardio.

Going to space is not just a dream, it is a truly romantic adventure, and one I would love to one day do with that one delicious person by my side. But it also presents real, long lasting negatives for your health and well-being.

Some things to consider, once you undress your two hot lovers up in space, their lingerie will silently float away down the space hotels interiors. So please, dont forget to close the door behind you prior to the undressing.

You might not be shy enough to care, and that is fine :). I am simply considering how quick and easy you guys will manage to get dressed again once you are all happy and pleased.

And please remember your oranges beyond our pale blue atmosphere.

An orange a day was once a life saver for hundreds of people casting off to go to sea. Scurvy used to be a deadly curse amongst any kind of sailor that spent too much time out on the open waters. The cure was to take a slice from the pages of "fit and active & healthy" and as such, once the boats started bringing oranges with them to supplement the essential vitamins that we need, not just to remain healthy, but to survive the trip, that was what the sailors too did, survived the trip that is.

This old curse of traveling across the oceans is now something that is for obvious reasons a very real issue with prolonged space travel too.

And that orange do have to go hand in hand with hours of daily weight lifting and other healthy, daily lifestyle choices.

From the orange to the apple, to the weight lifting and daily need for cardio. Vitamin D and C, calcium, gravity, proteins and water - and real sunshine. Life in space, no matter if you travel through it on a moving station or spend your time using your own two feet traversing another planetary surface will need sustainable farming and healthy habits in food and activity even more than life on Earth does.

Assuming that most space tourists actually will want to re-enter Earth as healthy as possible.

And all these aspects, the differences that is, severely decreases your health. Some of them, like the old case with oranges on boats, leads to life-threatening issues like Scurvy. While others, like the loss of bone mass and a weaker heart, is aspects that just does not go away by itself once you land back on Earth again. Bone mass and muscle mass can and will over time recover with the right amount of training, but there are no guarantees that you will ever recover completely from a 12 month trip to space. At least not as things are right in the here and now.

kisses and touches, and your motion sick brain

And as such, since you are now trapped up there. In the dark where no one but your crew and lovers can hear you.

Kissing and touching will, of course, feel as normal. The lack of gravity and the initial confusion and "morning/motion" sickness the conflicting information that your inner ear and eyes will give the brain gives most astronauts the first few days does not take away your hearing, your sight, nor your ability to feel the sensation of touch against your skin.

But it does make some things interesting.

Without gravity, well, making love will prove a completely different kind of workout and experience than it normally does. Just as how daily life will be a different beast altogether. Throwing your socks and underwear to the side works great on Earth, things tend to just fall where you throw it. But when you hurry to undress your hot lover up in space, her bra will just float away. Your food and bodily fluids too :P..

And yes, I did mention the fact that most astronauts end up feeling quite motion sick the first few days. It is simply not that instant for your finely tuned senses to readjust. Down on Earth, your ear and entire balance system is perfectly in match with what your eyes are seeing, two different sensory system feeding your brain 24/7.

But up in space, all of a sudden your inner ear is telling your entire body and mind that hey guys, we are fuck..ing falling!. But your eyes are perfectly fine, saying, no worries brain, we are just slowly floating, and it looks damn cool too!. So, my point is, making love might not happen the first or second day on your romantic space flight, you might all feel far too ill for that.

But more importantly is that for each month spent, your body will deteriorate a lot quicker than it ever could on Earth. Your spine will crumble and grow longer! And all while your feet are growing smoother, your muscle mass will shrink and disappear like vapor in the burning sun. Your cardiovascular performance, in general, will vanish with the pace of the speeding sun that shines and radiates stronger than ever up here.

Back down on Earth again, your spine is weak and your feets will crumble

So much so that the day you are saved and step right back on Earthly soil, you will have a hard time even standing upright (which more than one Nasa astronaut can tell you about)

Internally you will be like a really old, sedentary and weak version of yourself, or why not go to the other side of the scale, a weak newly born of chubby wonders and no bodily control or real strength, made so because what you just did by spending time in space was the equal of going through an accelerated crash course in decades-long sedentary life and with it, all the major negative health effects of you doing such a life came.

Research indicate that for some, even with hard daily work, as little as 50% of your bone density will have been restored after 9 months back on Earth.

Facts are, for life in space to become a healthy reality for more than a select few. Our society will have to adapt a truly active and healthy, sustainable way of life in combination with all the modern day technology that can help us achieve that in an extremely limited and hostile space. For anyone spending a prolonged time in space, lifting weights and doing serious amounts of cardio on a daily basis, is a must.

Nothing optional about it, just plain reality.

So is eating healthy food and drinking water. And thus, comes the need for the ability to grow new and healthy food while up in space (which is already an ongoing experiment on the ISS).

You can simply forget all about all the Battlestar Galactica drunken parties up in space. Healthy and active, safe living day in and day out is what it is all about.

On the plus side is that making love and kissing is certainly part of a healthy life. So you and your lovers should certainly keep that up. Not only will it make being stranded in space far more fun, but it will also help you in your daily quest to remain your healthy and sane self.

Up in space, the importance of that daily quest is even greater than it ever was down on Earth, a simple reality resulting in up to two hours of exercise each and every day for current day astronauts, and yet, all international astronauts still suffer from their time spent in space.

And the food bit, as I mentioned we already experiment with growing food in space, and down here, it is already possible to grow strawberries and tomatoes and other greens all year-round no matter the weather and season outside (click & grow is a pretty good example).

But such technological breakthroughs, improvements in long-term and sustainable energy production, even better water recycling, less resource consuming foods and greens and even more effective ways of growing them are still needed. Perhaps not for weekend long vacation trips, but for anything longish those things will be essential.

A reality that also in no way limits just how awesome it is that we can soon take off on a romantic cruise in space :).

Elephants and sharks already master the art of defeating cancer

NO, eating shark or elephant meat (or any animal part) will not keep you healthy and cancer free. But Sharks and Elephants are both incredibly resilient when it comes to cancer. Neither species are however immune, but their incidence is impressively low and the number of documented cases is extremely low compared to humans.

The answer lies in evolution and future medical and technological advancements

Elephants for instance have 38 extra copies of a gene known as p53 that makes cancerous cells self-destruct before they become dangerous. Some humans only have one. Giving us clues to how we can one day better manage, and possibly defeat cancer. Not by eating other species, which has never worked for any known issue, but through modern day medicine.

Perhaps the cure will come through advancements in stem cell and dna research, requiring one form or another of surgery, or simply by eating engineered food, supplements and or medicine. On top of you choosing to live an active and healthy life that is, because as you already know, that too greatly aids in defeating cancer and more or less every known health issue there is in life.

p53, sometimes called "the guardian of the genome", produces a protein that can trigger either the rescue or destruction ( apoptosis ) of damaged cells in our bodies. Because elephants have 100 times more cells than humans, they should also be much more likely to develop cancer over the cause of their lifespan. Yet fewer than 5% of elephants die due to cancer, compared to the huge amount of people that ultimately die from cancer.

Elephant cells exposed to radiation in scientific tests chose to self-destruct at twice the rate of healthy human cells and more than five times the rate of cells taken from patients suffering from Li-Fraumeni. A rare genetic disorder that gives you a 90% chance of dying from cancer.

It is today, 70 years since this day. A day still worth remembering for what happened, and as a warning for what could once again happen. Some have claimed it ended the war sooner, others that all the hundreds of thousands in total of innocent civilians sacrificed in that bright wave of light and radiation and it´s horrifying aftermath, some how was less than the amount of people that would otherwise have died and suffered before Japan finally gave up. Truth is no one will ever know if that is correct, or if it was nothing more than a nation already mere moments away from winning deciding to take all its anger and hate and pour it down from the heavens in an act of two step revenge like the world has never before or ever again seen.

Either way, it was for the world, a collective moment and lasting devastation of horror, pain and misery that followed, it was on a scale entirely unthinkable. So many lives lost and destroyed in the blink of an eye that the global and national trauma somehow lingered on for decades and generations afterwards, so much so that after the second bomb fell, the world despite its many following wars and raging hate, ongoing conflicts and shortcomings have chosen to never again repeat what happened August 6, 1945.

The Six Survivors

It was perhaps best described by John Hersey's Hiroshima essay, a lengthy read which took up almost the entire August 31st, 1946 issue of The New Yorker. An Essay that takes you through that exact moment that you have now travelled back to, showing the world what happened through the eyes of six actually surviving Japanese civilians instead of the usual and carefully polished victory propaganda the world most often gets to see in the aftermath of any conflict.

It is a moment in time and history worth revisiting and experiencing now that his 70-year-old essay have been republished online by the New Yorker. .

As Mrs. Nakamura stood watching her neighbor, everything flashed whiter than any white she had ever seen. She did not notice what happened to the man next door; the reflex of a mother set her in motion toward her children. She had taken a single step (the house was 1,350 yards, or three-quarters of a mile, from the center of the explosion) when something picked her up and she seemed to fly into the next room over the raised sleeping platform, pursued by parts of her house

The Above was a short passage from John Hersey´s excellent essay.

To the six survivors that John talked to and wrote about, that moment of the explosion was as if the sun had descended down upon Earth, but after wards. After the shellshock that tore down trees and houses. After the burning heat, the soundless explosion, the fire, the light. After wards, when the radiation slowly spread, day was turned into night. The sun was gone and winter and night was all that remained.

And as such, before I send you off to read the entire 70 year old essay, I will leave you with the question one of the children that survived the initial explosion said.

The five-year-old, Myeko, asked: “Why is it night already? Why did our house fall down? What happened?”. And with that I urge you to read the entire essay in the safety and comfort of your home. To never forget it, and perhaps even consider just why the world still spend thousands of times more per year on building more and better weapons than we do on healthcare, sustainable energy, clean air & water, healthy food production, well fare, parental care, elderly care, education and equality all combined.
