This is why #HL7   #fhir     #openehr   #ihe  etc. have trouble with semantic interoperability.  They confuse workflow issues with information.  These workflows change drastically across clinics, states, countries, languages and cultures.  +MLHIM addresses the core problem of conceptual interoperability.

Hello together,
I am actually working on an application for paramedics using Google Glass. With this idea I'm taking part in a competition for business ideas and to realize my idea it's important to win this competition. Unfortunately it's in German so let me explain you a littlte bit about my project "Medical Glasses". It's our aim to use Google Glass to improve the prehospital care through providing the right information in the right moment. We want to show vital signs, standard operation procedures and information to drugs needed in emergencys. Furthermore there is the possibility to get a videochat to an emergency physician supporting the paramedic team on scene. I really believe this idea could improve the outcome of many patients and would be happy if you would like to support us. If you like our idea, just hit on the link on the right side the orange "Jetzt unterstützen!" button, it's German  and means "Support now". You only need 3 seconds and no sign up is needed. Thank you for supporting innovation in health care. If you have further questions about "Medical Glasses", ask me, I would love to explain you the idea in detail. This post can be shared.

Until including the full context of codified information, including the ability to manage post-coordinated expressions, is ubiquitous in healthcare IT, providers and researches are strongly encourage to use data that is “abstracted” from clinical records as a “pointer” towards the source document, where the full context is normal preserved. Failure to do so may lead compromises in patient safety

+Michael Stearns, MD  Great article. Please see +MLHIM  for a solution that works.

Big Data analysts estimates run from 50% to 90% of the overall analysis time is spent in doing data preparation. This must be repeated EVERY time that data is used.  +MLHIM adoption turns this around around so that data definition is slightly more involved but it then only needs to be performed one time.  Analysts will always know the syntax and semantics of the data and whether it is important for their particular analysis use case.   #healthcareit   #healthcarereform   #semanticweb   #interoperability

Interesting perspective on "Big Data in healthcare" and a well founded, word of caution. What we currently see is success in analyzing data within one institution. A lot of innovation in healthcare are happening elsewhere. From simple medical devices to intelligent information systems, we can’t hardly imagine what more will the bring. How Google Translate is uniting the human race.

Tracking tech news and commentary, we all get caught up in the scandals, politics, speeds and feeds and competitive jockeying between companies all competing for survival and dominance.

But every once in a while, you just have to stop and smell the awesome.

Sometimes you realize that technology is making the world a better place in profound ways that would have been pure science fiction just a few years ago. Such a realization happened to me yesterday right here on Google+.

Here's what happened: http://www.datamation.com/open-source/how-google-makes-the-web-worldwide-1.html

ALSO: Everybody please SHARE this post. Let's get everyone on Google+ using Google Translate!

MLHIM 2.4.4 is just 5 days away from the release date.
But you can get a pre-release of the User Manual and specs guide now.  :-)

Actually, we are looking for a little crowd-sourcing help to preview the document and let us know of any typos and grammar complaints.  So grab your PDF copy from the link below.

This release has a few more simplifications, from a technical perspective.  *The biggest update* is probably the documentation itself.  We hope that this does a better job of communicating the need and purpose of MLHIM. As well as how MLHIM compares to other attempts at semantic interoperability.

Please let us know how we are doing.  Your feedback contributes to the quality of this project.

Thanks,
Tim Cook

Sigh. I had hoped health care would be able to learn from the past 50 years of enterprise technology when it came to handling data

In reply I will point out that there are a few of us that have been saying this more more than a decade.  Not just saying it either we have been doing something about it.  But, in order to get widespread use; a little help from the popular media will help.  If people like +Shahid Shah and +John Lynn would publish more about the innovations in this area it will help since they have a wider readership.  +MLHIM addresses the fundamental problem of interoperability.
