Ananda Sim17,751The Olympus E-M1 firmware has gone version 2.0 with some new Art Filters. Friend @116211643637254159887 is considering revisiting Art Filters so let's all have some fun with Olympus Art Filters. This feature is available on a fair number of Olympus camera models, even compacts, but definitely Micro Four Thirds bodies and Four Thirds DSLR bodies. When you shoot raw + JPEG, the Art Filter applies to your SOOC JPEG. Your raw can be re-worked by yourself without that encumbrance. If you use Olympus Viewer, OV can re-create the exact Art Filter or you can pick any other one, as if you were using the camera. *For this event* 1. You can display a maximum of 3 of your shots 2. Your shots can be SOOC JPEG from the camera or via raw and then processed via Olympus Viewer 3 to JPEG. 3. You need to register with G+ and this event to make a post of your hyperlink or your photo but your photos can be stored anywhere - Flickr, Facebook (yes FB but make it public) etc... Certainly at G+. 4. You don't have to meet up physically so you can make your photo anywhere in the world. 5. Get your friends with Olympus gear involved - it's not limited to this group. 6. Preferably for each photo, tell us the model of your camera, which Art Filter you used and a few words on why you like that shot Note to those people who haven't bought an Olympus camera with Art Filters *yet* you can still play because: You can even use #olympusArtFilters on any photo on your mobile device with OI Share app, but of course the source data doesn't start from raw. For those with an Olympus camera with Art Filters, you can shoot an Art Filter JPEG, get it onto your mobile device (could use OIShare to wirelessly transfer from your camera) and since it is a JPEG, you could layer another Art Filter on top of the first one. No, it's not like Photoshop Touch but it's not as complicated either. And it's free. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.olympusimaging.oishare https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/olympus-image-share/id561896860?mt=8 There are no prizes or ranking - this isn't a competition, this is a celebration of the Art Filter and of you joy in photography. Enjoy! Cheers to @116965767030817887153 @108977422735122571732  From Ananda Sim :)Olympus Art Filter Weekend - Virtual Event2014-09-19 16:00:0014

Mykal Hall638,247+101145980349117737014 and +115105647022907007398 are here in Australia for a workshop in Port Stephens hosted by +111465359080289844494 on the 3-5 Jan 2014. I have twisted their arms to do a photowalk here in +104262770460851770269 on the 11 January 2014.  So lets show our guest the welcome the Sydney Photo Community has to offer.  We will meet on the steps in front of the Sydney Opera House at 6.30pm and slowly make our way to Hickson Rd Reserve for sunset and then to the end point at Observatory Hill by 9pm. I have plotted a few photo opportunity locations along the route as well as public toilets that I know of. https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit?mid=zw_eAURDDMag.kLJfMBZmQ50o  There are plenty of food outlets to grab a quick bite to eat at Circular Quay for the journey. I have walked the route in 1hr 40mins at a leisurely pace but you may want to stay at one location longer if you desire. That will be fine as long as we all get together at the start to greet Jay and Varina and then at the end point to say our goodbyes. Then afterwards if you still feel in the mood to chat over a drink we will be heading to The Hero of Waterloo (if there is only a small group) or the Harbour View Hotel (if there are more than the Hero can fit). I recommend catching public transport to Circular Quay or Town Hall but if you drive in there are a few parking stations within a short walk to the Opera House. I suggest downloading the "Cheap Parking App" from the Google playstore or iTunes. This will give you pricing options from closest or cheapest and links to get to them. I hope everyone has a great time during the walk socialising and remember you can approach Jay, Varina and myself at anytime to ask any questions. Please share this with anyone you may know who would want to join us. :)))  Looking forward to see you all and don't forget the hash tag #PatelSydneyPhotowalk +107073852799630124249 Jay and Varina Patel Sydney Photowalk2014-01-11 18:30:00138

paradigmblue8,127  Welcome to ParadigmShift #7 - my RAW file editing experiment on G+ :) It's been a long time since paradigmshift #6 so I think it's about time we unleash with #7.  Breaking my wrist in two places and sporting an increasingly smelly plaster cast is getting me down.  So I'm kinda relying of you people to brighten up my day by seeing what you come up with in paradigmshift #7. This time I'm offering 3 bracketed images from a shoot I did after work one day in Glenelg, South Australia.  It was just early spring and the thermometer was pushing 30 degrees Celsius so I booked myself an apartment by the beach in hoping I'd get some awesome shots of the sun setting over the water.   And Glenelg didn't disappoint.  Check out my portfolio at SmugMug site here: http://paradigmblue.smugmug.com/Landscapes/Glenelg This particular set of images was underneath the Glenelg Jetty as the sun set over the waters and is quickly becoming one of my favourite shots.  So I want to open it up to all of you to edit :) Details are: Filter: ND4 Shutter speed was 10, 6 & 20 seconds ISO: 320 F /11 Shot on a Canon 6D (17-40mm) - focal length @ 36mm So there is plenty to pull out of the RAW files (linked below).  As always, I look forward to your edits.  Please play by the rules :) The Rules Step 1 Share this event to your public stream.  Failure to do so will result in your image being removed. Step 2 If I'm not in your circles, add me -@116923280194426907545  Step 3 Sign into #ParadigmShift #7 with a short comment  Step 4 Download the straight out of the camera RAW files from the link below and edit to your liking.  The only restriction is to avoid Photoshop and create a composite image Step 5 Add your edit to the event by entering a comment and clicking on the camera icon to the right of the comment dialogue box.  You are free to enter multiple edits into the event. Step 6 Show your appreciation to others by +1'ing and commenting on their work.  It's all about having a bit of fun. Please note: 1. I still retain ownership of copyright on the images as I took them :) 2.  Please don't provide a link to the original RAW files in your posts. 3.  And in the words of @116009459840268115761  "it's worth reiterating that this is not to establish the right or wrong way of treating and image, but more an exercise in exploring how different individuals would interpret the treatment of an image." - Couldn't have said it better - so I won't :) The event is good to go as you're reading this so don't wait and get to it!  Ends on Sunday 01/12/2013 @ 9:00pm Australian Eastern Time and the RAW files will be deleted. And most importantly have fun!  Be sure to add peeps who contribute to this into your circles - they're all awesome :) RAW FILES FOLDER: http://goo.gl/W7xqdLParadigmshift #72013-11-25 08:00:0071

paradigmblue8,127Welcome to #ParadigmShift #6 For #ParadigmShift #6 I'm sharing with you guys another one of my favourite images.  Back in early June, I was fortunate enough to be in Sydney on a week long work conference.  This just happened to tie in with the Vivid Sydney 2013 Festival.  For two weeks, the world renown Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge were lit up with all kinds of lights - it was a spectacular sight and event to attend.  I was really happy that I was able to escape at night on a few occasions after work and capture this event.  For my pics, visit my website here:  http://www.paradigmblue.org/website/portfolio/vivid-sydney/ After doing this for awhile, I decided to cross over the Harbour and venture out to the less crowded side at Milsons Point in North Sydney and look back towards the city.  It was so nice and peaceful on this side and the view was spectacular.  So I wanted to capture this feeling by taking an image directly under the Sydney Harbour Bridge and capture some of the skyline.  And it's this image that will feature in #ParadigmShift #6 This #ParadigmShift will be different from others as it's a long exposure night shot - light is a scarce commodity with his image and it's what you'll do with it that'll make it pop!  I'll post the before and after shot below and you'll see that I opted for a crop guided by the rule of thirds.  As for you, do whatever floats your boat! Other details are: Filter: ND4 Shutter: 151 secs ISO: 100 F /13 Shot on a Canon 6D (24-105mm) - focal length @ 28mm So there is plenty to pull out of the RAW file (linked below).  As always, I look forward to your edits.  Please play by the rules :) The Rules Step 1 Share this event to your public stream.  Failure to do so will result in your image being removed. paradigmblue8,127Welcome to #ParadigmShift #5 For #ParadigmShift #5 I'm sharing with you guys one of my favourite images I recently shot.  Last weekend I did an impromptu short photo walk at a South Melbourne Pier and then ventured off to St Kilda Pier in Melbourne, Australia. See all my pics here:  http://www.paradigmblue.org/website/portfolio/sth-melbourne-st-kilda/ I found St Kilda Pier fascinating  - not so much being on the actual pier, which was a little boring, but the scenery around the base of the pier - especially the rock platform running parallel along the pier.  One thing that struck me was how long St Kilda Pier actually is - it's huge! It got me thinking about embarking on a project to photograph all of Melbourne's beautiful bay beaches.  Now that would be awesome!! If only I had the time :) Anyway, for #ParadigmShift #5, I'll actually publish below the untouched RAW straight out of the camera for all to see.  As usual, get rid of the dust!  You'll find the RAW pretty much over exposed in the sky - but post production will fix that in a jiffy :) Other details are: Filter: ND400 Shutter: 31 secs ISO: 50 F /13 Shot on a Canon 6D (17-40mm) - focal length @ 17mm So there is plenty to pull out of the RAW file (linked below).  As always, I look forward to your edits.  Please play by the rules :) The Rules Step 1 Share this event on your public stream.  Click on the "Share Event" button in the upper right corner of the event.  My goal is for all your circles to know about this and participate if they're interested.  If the above is not done and your image is submitted into the event, I have grounds to delete it.  That sounds harsh I know - but I want this thing to grow and get out there.  It's a small thing to do for access to a RAW file to edit and submit. Step 2 If I'm not in your circles, add me :)   Step 3 Go nuts and edit, crop, process, HDR, monochrome - whatever floats your boat. Bring out the best of the image according to how you see it.  But try to steer clear of using Photoshop to merge the image with others.   Step 4 Add your edit to the event using the "Add Photo's" button in the upper right corner of the event.  You are free to enter multiple edits into the event. Step 5 In addition to posting your edit into the event, post it on your public feed and tag me @116923280194426907545 so that I can find it.  Be sure to tag it with #ParadigmShift   Please note: 1. I still retain ownership of copyright on the image as I took it :) 2.  Please don't provide a link to the original RAW file in your public posts. Ends on Sunday 02/06/2013 and the RAW file will be dele#ParadigmShift #52013-05-31 11:00:0023
Stephen Godfrey120,794Time: 3pm Location: Newtown Train Station (near the street) I will be there no matter the weather conditions. Even if it is raining there will still be plenty of cover around Newtown to shoot while not getting too wet. Sorry for not updating this before now, been a very busy week. Shoot me a message if you have any questions. ---------------------- It has been about a year since the last time I ran a photowalk so I guess it is time to do so again. Once again we will be heading to Newtown with the intention of doing some street photography. Never fear if you are not into street shooting there are plenty of other things around Newtown to keep you occupied, from the Historic Newtown cemetery to lane ways full of graffiti.  If you are new or never tried Street Photography never fear I will help you get started with a small introductory workshop on how to get started. Oh and the reason I run a photo walk at this time of year it coincides to my birthday so why not do something you love doing around your birthday. More details about the start and finish location to follow. PS I cannot promise another rainbow.Newtown Street Photography Photowalk2013-05-25 15:00:0036

paradigmblue8,127Hi peeps, Welcome to #ParadigmShift #4 First of all, a massive THANK YOU to all who participated in #ParadigmShift #1 - #3. I get a lot of feedback from peeps that they really enjoy this event so thanks for participating and playing by the rules. For #ParadigmShift  #4, I chose an image I had a lot of fun with taking and editing.  As most of you know, I've moved house recently and am still in the process of unpacking in my new home.  After weeks and weeks of this, I needed a sanity break and ventured off to #PortMelbourne  to catch the blue hour around this picturesque part of #Melbourne  #Australia.  If you come to Melbourne by boat, you'll dock into #StationPier  and this is the first glimpse of Melbourne you'll get - the gateway to our city.   In taking this image, I wanted to capture 3 elements - the sunset, the water and the buildings.  To do so, a long exposure using an #ND400 filter was my choice.  You'll notice that I have a dust issue on my sensor so it will be interesting to see those who take the time to clean this up.   Other details are: Filter: ND400 Shutter: 30 secs ISO: 100 F /13 Shot on a Canon 6D (24-104mm) - focal length @ 24mm So there is plenty to pull out of the RAW file (linked below). Step 5 In addition to posting your edit into the event, post it on your public feed and tag me +paradigmblue so that I can find it.  Be sure to tag it with #ParadigmShift  Please note: 1. paradigmblue8,127EDIT:  This event is now closed.  A huge thanks to all who particiapted.  Be sure to add everyone below to your circles - they're all awesome :) Hi peeps, Welcome to #ParadigmShift #3 :) First of all, a massive THANK YOU to all who participated in #ParadigmShift #2 - it was so much fun seeing all the different post processing pics you came up with. For #ParadigmShift  #3, I'm choosing an image close to my heart.  A few weeks ago, my brother +Dave Tomek and I went on a photowalk around #PortMelbourne   #Australia  - such a beautiful place to photograph.  One of the best known locations is #PrincesPier  - it's an absolute photogs delight.  That is, if you manage to dodge all the fishermen and other photogs in the area :)  For the history of the place, check out the Wikipedia article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princes_Pier The posts in the water are what used to be the extension of the original pier - it would've been huge as behind me still stands a rather large pier. The RAW file was taken during the blue hour: Filter: ND400 Shutter: 50 secs ISO: 50 F /13 Shot on a Canon 6D (24-104mm) - focal length @ 24mm So there is plenty to pull out of the RAW file (linked below).  As always, I look forward to your edits.  Please play by the rules :) The Rules - Share this event on your public stream.  My goal here is for all your circles to know about this and participate if they're interested.   - If the above is not done and a pic is submitted into the event, I have grounds to delete it.  That sounds harsh I know - but I want this thing to grow and get out there :)  It's a small thing to do for access to a RAW file to edit and submit. - Go nuts and edit, crop, process whatever floats your boat - bring out the best of the image according to how you see it.  But try to steer clear of using Photoshop to merge the image with others. - Please note, I still retain ownership of copyright on the image as I took it :) - Post you edit into the event using the "Add Photos" option in the upper right. - In addition to posting your edit into the event, post it on your public feed and tag me +paradigmblue so that I can find it.  Be sure to tag it with #ParadigmShift  - Please don't provide a link to the original RAW file in your public posts. - And in the words of +Debashis Talukdar " it's worth reiterating that this is not to establish the right or wrong way of treating and image, but more an exercise in exploring how different individuals would interpret the treatment of an image." - Couldn't have said it better - so I won't :) - The event is good to go as you're reading this so don't wait and get to it!  Ends on Sunday 05/05 and the RAW file will be deleted. - And most importantly have fun!  Be sure to add peeps who contribute to this into your circles - they're all awesome :) RAW FILE: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B9MYbPF71WSeOXZ2T0h6RG1PQW8/edit?usp=sharing#ParadigmShift #32013-05-03 01:00:0043

Venice and the Black Bulky Beast

www.MykalHall.photography

A story from May 2014.

So my Olympus OMD EM5 has been put out of action due to a careless night in Florence and getting too close to a laser show. In comes plan B. +Dianne Hall has with her my old Nikon D90 as her backup camera to her Samsung Galaxy camera. I know what you're thinking.... she is leaving the better camera in the bag but in her words "It's just so heavy and bulky." I can't argue with that. After caring around my Oly this feels like a boat anchor. Playing tourist for 12 to 18 hours a day this was going to kill me. Well at least I don't have to carry around the tripod for the daylight hours. :))) As I said in the last post, I did actually forget where the on/off switch was on the Nikon. It's only been about 6 months..... or maybe even more since I retired this black bulky... more »

London Eye, On Top Of The World

www.MykalHall.photography

June 2014

Bucket List - London Eye. Now completed.

I had to press the lens hood flush up onto the glass to reduce the glare from the window and then a few clone stamps in #PerfectPhotoSuite8  to complete the task. If I had my Lens Skirt attached to the window and lens, which blocks the glare, I wouldn't have had this problem but it arrived a few days after we left for our 3 month holiday :(

London Icons

www.MykalHall.photography

June 2014

An iconic image of London in the rain however I use a little creative inspiration from the only 2 rain drops that glowed as they passed by the lamp post. Instinctively I reached for the healing brush to remove them, wishing there were more rain drops to complete this image.  Once they were gone I just knew I had to have them back again but with more. So while searching my favourite photo editing package, #On1 #PerfectPhotoSuite , I found a texture blend of rain which I could adjust the opacity. As luck would have it the rain was falling in the same direction as the "fake" rain.

As David duChemin says "Gear is good, but vision is better".

After a non event sunrise, not a cloud in the sky, our group started the long walk back to the headland over the low tide rock shelf. Looking back I noticed the sunlight bouncing off the wet rocks and water. I thought If I got down low enough it would make an interesting image and pulled out the then current iPhone 4 and captured this. I then processed it using Aperture with a heavy sepia tone.

I have heard that someone achieved a 4SEC HANDHELD shot with the OMD EM5 mkII. Now that's got to send a shudder down the spine of all tripod manufacturers. Maybe I should start investing in small portable photography stools.  :)))

Venice, Goodbye D90

www.MykalHall.photography

A story from May 2014.

This is the last image taken with the Nikon D90 during our resent holiday roaming around Europe. For a 6 year old camera model it still holds up with image quality. It's just a shame it doesn't have the Olympus 5 axis image stablilisation and size. The 2 things I missed the most while my Oly OMD EM5 was retired after having it's sensor zap by a laser show in Florence. I wanted to travel light throughout our 3 month vacation and capturing shots after sunset or dimly lit interiors with the D90 requires tripod shooting which is what I was trying to avoid. This was a holiday first, photography second trip.

So as we weaved our way around the alleyways of Venice we stumbled upon one of, if not only, camera store on the island and in the window was a camera that arrived in that same morning. The Olympus OMD EM1. My heart skipped a beat, my credit card switched and I almost broke out in a cold sweat as GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) raged through my body. Now I had been shooting with the EM5 for a while now and fitted it out with the additional battery grip allowing me the luxury of having 2 batteries and a more solid grip on the camera. When I compared the sizes of the 2 cameras the EM1 with it's inbuilt hand grip was actually smaller in dimensions compared with the EM5 with battery grip.

Now the price I would have to pay for this camera, I could have almost bought a Sony A7 back home but that would be no good to me here and now. I would also have to reinvest in a new lens system. Something I couldn't justify for my needs. So I did what any crazy GAS affected photographer would do with a freshly paid off, zero balance owing on credit card, with many Micro Four Thirds lenses, I bit the bullet and purchased the EM1. I felt guilty as hell at the time but am totally glad I purchased it. Olympus and I go together like a hand in a glove. We are both not perfect but man..... we have created some fantastic images over the 3 months away. If your camera is a burden every time you go to shoot with it, that's not going to add to your creativity and vision. Something every photographer requires in bucket loads.

Shot with NikonD90, Tokina 11 - 16mm f2.8 at f8, ISO 200, 15sec without a tripod with the camera sitting on the side of the bridge.

Venice and the Black Bulky Beast

It's only been about 6 months..... or maybe even more since I retired this black bulky beast in favour of the Oly EM5.

Now to this image. As you can tell by the shadows this was captured in the worst possible light, the midday sun but I knew the dynamic range of the Nikon could pull out the details in the dark shadows to present a decent image from just one shot. All I had to do was get a good composition and right timing to came away with a story telling image. I also knew that the 11-16mm Tokina lens set to 11mm on this crop factor camera would distort and stretch certain parts of the image. All of which I'm totally cool with. Slanting buildings and stretched lines to me add a little something to guide the eyes around the frame. We all have our different ways of doing things.

Sant Agnello, Sorrento Coast and Mount Vesuvius, Italy

April 2014

Dianne and I decided to explore along the coast of Sorrento to see what views could be had and more importantly find a nice place to eat that night. Well we struck gold on both fronts. Just 10mins from our accommodation we found a cafe for afternoon tea above the Spiaggia Restaurant that had views of Sorrento coastline to the left and spectacular views of Hotel Corallo with Mount Vesuvius in the background. This was a public viewing area so there were no issues with setting up a tripod for a few shots. The clear waters below and large cave in the cliff face just made a perfect scene.

A little pricey as it was more of a fine dining restaurant and we were not dressed to impress so I felt a little uncomfortable at the beginning. Our waiter sat us by the window overlooking the Sorrento coast and made us feel at ease with light banter and took our orders. We thought we had won the lottery stumbling onto this place. The service was first class and the food even better. If you’re
looking to take that someone special out for a celebratory meal and live in this area, I highly recommend the Spiaggia Restaurant.

I can see why Elia Locardi loves this region of Italy. It has freaking amazing views.

March, 2014

Thanks to the cloud cover at sunrise my shooting time was extended far beyond the “Golden Hour” a few weeks ago. After capturing the first image I didn’t have to move far to come up with another composition. As the tide was coming in the waves had pushed me back to a more “dry lens” position. Moving back a few meters I observed the waves now spilling over the previously dry rocks and crevasses. I knew if I got low enough with a wide focal length I could really have an eye catching foreground interest that would lead the eye to the crashing waves, then to the menacing storm front approaching. So the story is complete. A beginning, middle and end.

Of course I had it mounted to a tripod and triggered with a remote shutter to reduce vibration. This lens has become my default night time / low light shooter for handheld images. A task my D7000 couldn’t complete and that’s why I left it at home.

The cameras Dianne Hall   has in her bag are the Samsung Galaxy Camera and a Nikon D90. The latter is rarely used as she prefers the portability and ease of use. I think this trip has turned her into a Jpeg shooter :( I need to pass on my EM5 to her and swing her back to RAW. This will now happen when we get back home thanks to an incident in Florence……..but that’s for another post.  :(  :)))) I have taken the Olympus OMD EM5 and the Panasonic TZ40 point and shoot, as recommended at the time of purchase as a great travel companion by +Gordon Laing  on www.cameralabs.com .  I can say it has lived up to all expectations. Having a good P+S with fantastic zoom abilities has been a fun experience as I found out in Malta.

As our 3 month long Europe vacation is now more than half completed, I have a stack of images to process and post. We have been enjoying the late sunset times here by having late dinners and even later bedtimes. Averaging 1am heads on pillows and lights out which makes photo editing a little difficult. This holiday was a vacation first and photography journey second. Trying to find the right balance between the two can be tricky at times but I have stuck to our goals. Spending quality time with +Dianne Hall is a dream come true and a moment that i’ll never forget. The travel bug has bitten us both so there will be more adventures both vacation and PHOTOGRAPHY TOURS in the near future. :))))

The rain has stopped and the sun has poked through the clouds so it’s time to explore the Britanny region of France. This will be the last image from Dubai and next up it’s Malta’s turn.

It had just finished raining and there was a break in the clouds that illuminated the Opera House. I can see that I processed this to emphasise the mood.

The start of collection number 3 "Far Away Places". This gallery will contain images from outside of Australia, hence the title.

This was taken at Dubai, April 2014.

I ran long and hard, over dune after dune, to escape the crowd to capture this scene without any footprints. The sun was setting fast so I had to find a fitting location quickly. Luckily after the third or fourth dune crossing I stumbled upon this. I dropped to my knees, planted the tripod with camera already mounted and composed this. Within a minute, the sun was gone.

It's about time I create a few collections. Since I've been away there have been a few changes. I'm late to the game of Collections and it's taking me awhile to get the hang of them.

I'll try to post 1 everyday just to fill up a few collections to match my website www.MykalHall.photography

This one is of Bilgola Beach, Sydney in 2013.

I want this so bad. The #Olympus #PENF has a classic rangefinder look that most #StreetPhotographers lust for. I don't need this camera as I already own the OMD EM-1 & OMD EM-5mk2, but want it. I might be time to sell my dust collecting Nikon D7000 and lenses. I can't remember the last time I used it.

Check out the new look PEN F and tell me what you think of it.

Introducing the Olympus PEN-F that revives the forgotten pleasure of shooting photos. The PEN-F is the result of a fusion of the latest digital technologies such as the 20M Live MOS sensor and powerful in-body 5-axis image stabilisation that bring out the full, amazing potential of Zuiko lens image quality and the unbroken chain of 80 years of traditional craftsmanship.

Melbourne Dark Skies

Taken earlier this year on a quick 2 night stay in Melbourne. I liked how the light was falling on these buildings in the late afternoon. The sky was cloudless and blue so I converted it to B&W and darken the sky to highlight the light and structure of the buildings.

Even +Snapseed had an exciting update. I have almost a HALF A MILLION followers with almost a QUARTER OF A BILLION views and you would think I would be in my element like a kid at Christmas with 6 grandparents but that's not situation I find my mind in at present.

So in a mojo void a little voice could be heard saying "Check this +Ingress thing out." I first heard the word Ingress when +Brian Rose made the move from Google+ Photo Community Manger to go work for +Niantic Project . I didn't realise at the time the relationship between Ingress and Niantic and thought his decision was that of a crazy man. Now I see his mark he has made on Ingress as he did with Google+ in the early years.

I have lost about 9/10ths of you by now as you have no idea what the hell i'm talking about. Ingress is a game that involves the use of a phone (scanner as it's referred to) to locate portals (places of community interest) in the real world. This is not a game that can be played at home in front of a computer screen. It requires you to get out and be active. I have traveled over 244km going to places I didn't know existed in my local community and around Sydney. Parklands, War Memorials, Commemorative Plaques, Statues, Artwork and other places of interest that I have never noticed before. Yesterday I walked 10km visiting portals and reclaiming them from the opposition. I have even lost about 1kg due to the increase in exercise.

For 2 of the 3 months I was an literally an "undercover agent" as even Dianne Hall didn't know I was"playing" this game. Last weekend I finally met up with fellow agents from both factions, Resistance and Enlightened on their monthly meet up called "First Saturday" FS. Here you get a chance to chat to players you may have seen pop up in your scanner and discover their real names while asking for pointers to improve your game play.

In the photo attached taken at +Sydney Ingress First Saturday monthly meet up, this time at Macquarie University, you can see the wide age range of the players from late teens to late 50's. This is not your stereotypical computer game and thats why it draws the older players. It's a mix of fitness training, social gathering and a childhood fantasy of being a secret agent.

To find out more about this game that has changed the way I see the world and interact with, it go to Ingress's YouTube channel for all the details or their G+ page. Then you can download the app from Google Play or Apple's App Store, make your decision which faction you want to join after hearing what each side is trying to achieve, come up with an unique agent name ( took me 2hrs to come up with mine) and then it's time to move.  :)))

I'm agent Daguerre1839 from the Resistance and will be more than happy to send you an invite as this goes towards my Recruiter Badge. I have 192 invites to hand out and all you have to do is email me at mykaljhall@gmail.com then I'll send it to you or leave you email address below.

My next post will be about how you could win a FujiFilm X-A1 with a 16-50mm kit lens just by turning up to a photowalk here in Sydney that 2 friends of mine are organising.

Then it will be back to my regular posts. Even in a mojo void a few images have been captured.___
