Image super-resolution through deep learning. This project uses deep learning to upscale 16x16 images by a 4x factor. The resulting 64x64 images display sharp features that are plausible based on the dataset that was used to train the neural net.

Here's an random, non cherry-picked, example of what this network can do. From left to right, the first column is the 16x16 input image, the second one is what you would get from a standard bicubic interpolation, the third is the output generated by the neural net, and on the right is the ground truth.

This particular example was produced after training the network for 3 hours on a GTX 1080 GPU, equivalent to 130,000 batches or about 10 epochs.

Based on the Mercedes-Benz B-Class, the Denza 400 boasts a 62-kWh battery -- on par with the Tesla Model S 60 and more than twice the capacity offered for the B-Class Electric Drive.

The improved battery module is said to deliver the extra storage capacity without taking up more space than the Denza's previous 47.5-kWh pack. It is unclear if the latest battery uses an evolution of BYD's lithium iron phosphate chemistry, employed by the original Denza.

Dell’s massive acquisition of EMC reportedly has passed legal muster in China, clearing what is expected to be its last hurdle.

The acquisition, announced last October with an estimated value of US$67 billion, has been approved by Chinese regulators, according to the New York Post. That’s expected to be the last step toward closing the deal, though the companies may not announce its completion formally until next week. The combined company will be called Dell Technologies, while its PC business will keep the pure Dell name.

An Isilon cluster separates data from compute. As Hadoop clients run MapReduce jobs, the clients access the data stored on an Isilon

duster over HDFS. OneFS becomes the HDFS file system for MapReduce clients.

OneFS implements the server-side operations of the HDFS protocol on every node, and each node functions as both a namenode and

Isilon nodes does not act as the ResourceManager or the NodeManager. Those functions remain the purview of Hadoop clients.

OneFS contains no concept of a secondary namenode: Since every Isilon node functions as a namenode, the function of the secondary namenode (checkingpointing the internal namenode transaction log) is unnecessary.

The cluster load balances HDFS connections across all the nodes in the cluster. Because OneFS stripes Hadoop data across the duster and protects it with parity blocks at the file level, any node can simultaneously serve datanode traffic as well as namenode requests for tile blocks.

A virtual racking feature mimics data locality. You can, for example, create a virtual rack of nodes to assign compute clients to the nodes that are closest to a client’s network switch if doing so is necessary to work with your network topology or to optimize performance.

Client computers can access any node in the cluster through dual 1 GigE or dual 10 GigE network connections. A SmartConnect license adds additional network resilience with IP address pools that support multiple DNS zones in a subnet as well as IP failover. In OneFS, an IP address pool appears as subnet:poolname.___

2016 seems to truly be the year SSD is coming to the market. First Samsung launched it's 2,5" 15.4TB SSD and now Seagate launched it's 3,5" 60TB SSD

Seagate has just announced a whopping 60 TB solid-state-drive, the largest SSD yet with that sort of capacity. Unfortunately, the SSD is only meant for businesses, released as an addition to Seagate's data center portfolio. With four times the capacity of the next leading SSD, this massive hard drive could hold up to 12,000 DVD movies or even a whopping 400 million photos. Just sit back and think about how ridiculous an amount of data that really is.

The drive was created with quick accessibility in mind, and its flexibile artchitecture means it'll be simple for data centers to grow from 60TB to accommodate 100TB or more of data in the future, all using the same form factor.... more »

The 60TB SAS SSD is only available right now for demonstration, though it will officially make its debut some time in 2017. Unfortunately, we don't yet know exactly what the drive itself will look like, though given the fact that it's just a SSD, I can't imagine it'll look especially wild.

Speaking to a television interviewer in London, Hawking called Trump “a demagogue who seems to appeal to the lowest common denominator,” a statement that many Trump supporters believed was intentionally designed to confuse them.

Moments after Hawking made the remark, Google reported a sharp increase in searches for the terms “demagogue,” “denominator,” and “Stephen Hawking.”

“For a so-called genius, this was an epic fail,” Trump’s campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, said. “If Professor Hawking wants to do some damage, maybe he should try talking in English next time.”

Later in the day, Hawking attempted to clarify his remark about the presumptive Republican Presidential nominee, telling a reporter, “Trump bad man. Real bad man.”

When the driver failed to respond to 15 seconds of visual warnings and audible tones, Autosteer began a graceful abort procedure in which the music is muted, the vehicle begins to slow and the driver is instructed both visually and audibly to place their hands on the wheel. Approximately 11 seconds prior to the collision, the driver responded and regained control by holding the steering wheel, applying leftward torque to turn it, and pressing the accelerator pedal to 42%. Over 10 seconds and approximately 300m later and while under manual steering control, the driver drifted out of the lane, collided with a barrier, overcorrected, crossed both lanes of the highway, struck a median barrier, and rolled the vehicle.___
