The path of the Moon's umbral shadow begins in northern Australia and crosses the South Pacific Ocean with on other no landfall. The Moon's penumbral shadow produces a partial eclipse visible from a much larger region covering Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific. For those traveling to Australia for the eclipse, please note that the eclipse occurs on the morning of Nov. 14 local time. Went out all night on Monday to photograph the perseid meteor shower, much to the chagrin of the part of my brain that likes to sleep. Only managed to see one meteor, but it was a big one! You can see it starting from the top left of the picture. The rest of the picture is the stacked star trails from the night, looking over Tweed Heads from Terranora, NSW.

Did somebody say Snake Tuesday!? No? Nobody said that? Oh well, here's a copperhead snake from Tasmania. One of the three species of snake(all venomous) found in Tasmania. I learned this day that snakes do not move well on asphalt, which is a good thing, since i was laying on the road in front of it.   #snaketuesday

Just south of Port Douglas is Yule Reef, and Yule Point. The Captain Cook Highway runs just along the coast at this point, and always offers beautiful views. You should probably stop your car and get out though, rather than try and take a picture while driving.

Finally finished going through all my photos from my trips to Cairns and Tasmania!

This is The Nut in Stanley, Tasmania. It is an old volcanic plug, and gets it name from the aboriginal word Moo-Nut-Re-Ker.

This is one of my favorites from the trip, because I had it planned ahead of time, had to run to get there. It was very windy on this day, which pushed rain storms through quickly, creating quickly changing conditions. The day before the same weather pattern had produced a wonderful rainbow over The Nut, and i wasn't in position to capture it. I was prepared this time though; I had my camera and tripod set up in the cabin next to the beach, and about an hour before sunset a rainstorm blew through. As soon as it passed, i grabbed my gear and ran out to the beach, just in time to see the rainbow start to appear.
